His cool lips touched my forehead for just a moment. My eyes closed and I felt the swoosh of air as he left me.

Eyes still closed and my heart pounded. I felt frozen. How could everything get so messed up so quickly? With a gasp my eyes shot open and I took off in a sprint in the direction I hoped he had gone. It couldn't be this simple. He couldn't just leave like this with some half assed explanation and a promise that I'd forget him.

I ran, stumbling my way around until the trees parted. I stopped to take in the area. Not our clearing, but beautiful nonetheless. A small stream of water ran off to one side. I leaned over putting my hands to my knees as I took big gasping breaths. How long had I been running? It's darker now, so maybe an hour? Longer? I didn't know.

Close by a twig snapped. My eyes shot to the direction. Edward? I took a couple steps closer, but stopped realizing it could be anything hiding in the trees and brush.

"Edward?" I called out softly.

Soft rustling of the bush answered. I backed up a few steps. If it was him he would have answered my call.

I suddenly realized the danger I was in, all kinds of predators lived in the woods. It was getting darker by the minute. I turned, planning to go back the way I came but a soft growl stopped me. My blood ran cold and I turned to face the sound. Eyes scanning the area I let out a gasp when I suddenly felt an electric shock run through my body. I shook my head. What was that?

More rustling. I took a step closer. The growling had stopped. What is it? Quick as lightning a wolf the side of a horse jumped out of the trees landing a few feet in front of me.

I stumbled back, falling backward. The wolf hadn't moved. It stared at me with bright yellow eyes, it's head cocked to the side. Too scared to stand I slowly crawled backward, staring at the animal. How could a wolf be this size? It's impossible. It's fur looked shiny and soft, soft grey with streaks of black moving through it. I stared as I moved, partly in terror and partly in amazement at the large animal.

My back hit a tree. Now what? The wolf still hadn't moved. Maybe it didn't want to eat me. Just because my blood is overly appealing to vampires doesn't mean it is to wolves, but then I doubt wild animals are really picky. I rolled my eyes. What was I thinking running off in the woods alone? I stood, my movements slow. The animal still hadn't moved. Once standing I turned my back to it and took a step in the trees. Taking a quick glance back I was shocked to see it gone, but when I turned back around I let out a scream of pure terror seeing it in front of me close enough to touch.

"Oh, please don't eat me," I cried.

The wolf whined softly and laid down. Ears flat against its head. Almost like a dog that was being reprimanded for doing something wrong. Strangely while the shock of seeing it in front of me scared the daylights out of me looking at it now I felt no fear.

"What are you?" I whispered. It wasn't behaving as I thought a wolf would. It let out a small dog like bark in response. What the hell? I looked around, wondering how I was going to get home when I had no idea where I was. Suddenly I remembered why I was here. Edward!

Do I want to go home or do I want to keep running around chasing someone who is long gone? I took a step around the wolf, not knowing the answer but needing to do something. The wolf growled in response.

"Bella!"

My eyes snapped to the sound of my name. Charlie. The wolf got up with a growl and so quickly my eyes could barely keep up it ran out of my view.

"Bella!" Charlie called again. I sighed, knowing I had to go back now. Wrapping my arms around myself I started walking in the direction I thought his voice was coming from. The closer I got to my dad the more pain I realized I

was in. My legs were achy and tired. My ass was throbbing from the fall. But more than that this weird pain was flaring in my chest deep and aching. Maybe, I thought, it's because I'm getting further from Edward. Tears filled my eyes, quickly spilling over and raining down my cheeks.

It was getting hard to breath, the pain in my chest getting worse. I tripped over something I couldn't see. It had gotten pitch black. Other voices had joined my dads. I wasn't sure which way to go. Tears fell faster and I didn't get up. The voices sounded closer but still so far away and I was so tired.

With a heavy sigh I laid down, curling myself into a ball with one hand over my heart trying to rub away the deep ache I was feeling there. Without my permission my eyes slide closed.

Something cool and wet was touching my cheek. Did I fall asleep? I groaned, rolling over to my back. Opening my eyes I let out a gasp as I came face to face with the bright eyes of the wolf. My heart hammered in my chest and I heard a soft whine. It was so dark I could barely see anything. I could still hear my name being called. I sat up, the wolf backing up a few steps. Strange animal, I thought, staring at it. It whined again, tossing its head in the direction of the voices calling my name.

"Yeah, I know." I sighed, standing up. "I gotta find my way back."

The wolf whined and moved forward a few steps, looking back at me. No, not looking back at me but waiting for me. Was it trying to take me home? I stood there, unsure. The wolf huffed at me. It freaking huffed at me then came back behind me and nudged my back with its cold nose.

"What are you?" I asked, again starting to walk in the direction it was pushing me.
