"Izuku, honey?" Green eyes look over to see her mother looking at her with concern. In her hand was a baggie full of brownies, "Are you ok, sweetheart?" She brushes a strand of her green-black hair out of her face, "usually your so excited to at Takoba Beach,"
Izuku nods her head taking the baggie before looking out to the sea. Her mother sighs, giving her a gentle squeeze, "alright honey…. If you want to explore, just be careful and don't go near any of the trash," she stands up, "I'm going to get the fire started. We can burn some hot dogs,"
Izuku stays silent, even as her mother walks over to the pile of wood that she had gathered. Izuku takes a deep breath trying to get the words that were echoing in her head.
Useless Deku.
Sorry kid, ain't going to happen.
You're Quirkless! There's no way you can be a hero! So stay out of our way you freak!
So pathetic.
She is no family of mine, now get out of my sight.
I wonder if her dad got killed because he knew… didn't want the shame of having a Quirkless kid.
Izuku gets up with tears in her eyes and she begins to walk down the shore of the beach. She grips the bag tightly and tries to settle the pain in her chest. The four-year-old just couldn't understand why so many people were being mean to her. All because she didn't have a Quirk. It's not like she decided she didn't want a Quirk! If she could, she would have gotten a Quirk. If she had a Quirk she wouldn't be ridiculed, she wouldn't be laughed at…. She could be a hero if she had…
A loud groaning sound pulls her from her thoughts and she looks around. Hearing another groan she looks over to see a rock like structure, a cave with a small hole big enough for her to slip in.
Curiosity eating at her, Izuku walks over, poking her head in, eyes narrowing trying to see what was making the noise. What she didn't want to was to accidentally slip and fall into the dark hole.
But that was what happen. With a yelp she lands on some very soft sand. Rubbing her head she looks around, stilling when she spots a very large… orange eye opening.
Her mouth opens into a small o, as she stares at the very large reptile creature that yawns as he sits up. He had a square face, a broad neck with gills on the side. He tilts his head, leaning forward to blow a puff of hot air on the four year old's face making her giggle.
"Godzilla," she whispers in awe. Izuku may be only four but she knew the great being that her mother, and back when he was alive, father, helped research about with uncle Mark and aunt Emma for Serizawa.
She loved hearing Serizawa's stories… about how long ago there were more beings like Godzilla, who ate the Earth's natural radiation and then adapted to dove deep in the ocean to feed on what he said was the earth's core.. she didn't really understand Seeizawa's big words but she knew the Titans were just trying to get food. She watched videos of what they thought were his parents… watching how the female one fought other titans alongside another one…how the humans had found an egg which hatched into a smaller Gojira…. How they theorize that the baby Gojira was the grown up one that when a villain with an explosion quirk (is that why the teachers don't tell Kaachan off when he used his quirk on others? Telling him that he had such a heroic Quirk? So that way he won't be angry enough to become a villain like Ground Zero of Hiroshima?) awoke both him and Shinomura.
Izuku smiles brightly at him as he rumbles, "Hi you…." She slowly stood up, her eyes shining with almost stars, "I'm sorry for disturbing you…. I didn't know you were sleeping here," he snorts and she was so sure she could see amusement in his eyes. She looks down at her bag of brownies, "do you want some brownies? I mean I know they're small and won't fill you up but they taste really good!" She holds up the small bag at him, "they're chocolate and they have sprinkles and my mom made them! So they're really yummy,"
Another puff of hot air blew on her face… well her whole body making her hair go wild. But a soft nudge to her side, so gentle that it couldn't even knock her down was her answer. Looking at him she giggles and sits down, "alright, alright I'll eat them… but only because you told me to!" She grabs a brownie and bites into it with a smile. Munching on the soft brownie she looked at him more, tilting her head, "Can…. Can I pet you?"
He blinks his orange eyes at her, rumbling before he nods his head, leaning down close to her. Giggling she presses her hand against his snout, a giant smile growing on her face as she feels the warmth coming from the scales.
She then blinks when the scales where she had placed her hand begin to glow blue, not noticing Godzilla's eyes widening as the blue light flow into her hand, slowly becoming a bright green. Izuku whined when pain erupted…and tiredness…she fell onto her back.,.blinking her eyes sleepy…even as the rumbles echo in her ears, almost like a soft lullaby…the cries of her mother calling for her…her tired gaze went to her hand. A patch of black scales grew along the palm of her hand, the feeling of ice-cold water tingling along her body before it became a warmth…almost like she slipped into a nice warm bath.
"Not all men are created equal, '' I learned that when I was four years old. Especially in a world where 80% of the world's population has superpowers…but I also learn that life can throw you a bone…of course I wouldn't learn that until I was 14 but I had to go through many setbacks in my life,"
"But that doesn't mean I would let it stop me,"
Izuku grunts when she is pushed off the bed, groaning as the red eyes look down at her in amusement, "Damn it Hotaru!" she grabs the pillow trying to cover her face with it and curl underneath her blankets, "Its Spring Break let me sleep,"
"Sorry no can do, Zu," the orange-haired girl with her short hair in a small ponytail, orange and silver fur wings with tears fluttering behind her back smiles, "The old hag is drunk off her ass and is probably not waking up until probably 3 this afternoon. Hitoshi and Neito are getting the squeakers up and ready and you and I are on breakfast duty,"
Izuku sighs, throwing her pillow at the older girl before slowly sitting up to drag her slippers from underneath her bed. "Alright…did the food fairies come last night because I was for sure we didn't,"
Hotaru smiles, "Found some oatmeal deep in the cabinets. Its enough for all of us," she then grimaces, "Hopefully we can sneak some of the money away from the old hag to get us some food until school starts up again in a few weeks…or at least until I can ask one of the teachers at U.A if they'll help,"
Izuku slips on her slippers and smiles at Hotaru, "Hey from what heard all the teachers are Heroes…one of them has to be in it more than for the money and fame…maybe they have the heart to help an orphanage whose caretaker steals all the money away for her beer," Hotaru snorts but doesn't say anything. Izuku didn't blame her.
Hotaru Hageaen was the oldest child at Oda Orphanage. Her mother, a washed-out inventor who lost her job when it was found out that she stole someone else's idea and stated it as her own. The lawsuit was so bad that she lost so much money and afterwards no one would ever hire her. The most that people even talk about is when she was found in bars, drinking away her mind. It was surprising when she had Hotaru but not surprising that she neglected the girl. Hotaru was taken away when she was five, having been caught shoplifting some food.
The two girls walked out of their rooms, Izuku stepping out of the way when a small blue-haired boy ran by giggling madly as a blonde-haired boy chased after him, "Kenji get your butt over here!"
"No! You're going to hit me on the head, Neito!"
"Maybe because you decided to let rip a big one in our room!" Kenji squeal as Neito chases after him.
Izuku shakes her head. Neito Monoma was the newest member of the orphanage… no one knew how he lost his family but he joined Izuku's small group of friends last year. When they walked into the dining room, they spotted a bushy purple hair boy placing a small baby in a high chair. Izuku nods her head at Hitoshi who grunts at her. Hitoshi joined Oda Orphanage the same time as her when they were both nine years old. He didn't let it be silent on why he was in the orphanage, his parents giving him up after an incident in his elementary school when they tried to put a muzzle on him. Him using his Quirk on them to stop was enough for them and they gave up all parental rights for him.
Izuku climbs up the counter pulling out ten bowls out of the cabinets. She looks at the patch of scales on her hand, thinking of how she got placed in the orphanage.
"Thousands gathered in the Bay Area last night,"Izuku places the bowls down, staring at the small cracked tv, playing a news report, "to honor the victims of the 2314 attacks. Part of a wave of memorials and protests demanding that the secretive monster-hunting coalition known as Monarch be held accountable. The recent spike in mass die-offs in the world's oceans could be caused by efforts to locate and track Godzilla, who hasn't been seen in over five years"
Izuku snorts at this, pouring bits of milk into the bowls that Hotaru places oats inside. She rolls her eyes, "He wasn't found for 300 years after the Dawn of Quirks, he wasn't found for 60 years after they tried to bomb him in 2254 they ain't going to find the big guy unless he wants to be found," Hitsohi snorts taking the cook bowls of oatmeal to the table.
"Top brass at the mysterious Monarch organization will face another intense grilling as the American government continues to push for the extermination of the Titans."Izuku sighs, rubbing her hand. She blinks when Hotaru hands her a bowl and sighs at the look before she grabs a spoon and begins to eat. "And rumors persist that Monarch may be hiding more creatures discovered since the attacks of 2314. A historic tragedy that changed the world as we know it, forever. The day the world discovered that monsters are real,"
"They aren't monsters," Izuku growls, placing her now empty bowl in the sink, "You would think that after 300 years humans would realize that!" Hitoshi sighs, handing her a cup of coffee and she gulps it down, burning her throat but fully waking her up. She glares angrily, clenching her hand. He wasn't the villain everyone was painting him as…how come she? The girl whose mother was one of the many victims in the San Francisco attack could never think of Godzilla as the villain.
"Please Zu?" Hitoshi grumbles, pouring his own cup of hot coffee, "It's too early in the morning for this.
"I'm just saying," Izuku ignores how the others begin to groan, "That long ago they were treated like Gods. Temples that Monarch found over the years show that humans and Titans use to get along, that the Titans provide an essential balance to our world! And while yes some pose a threat many more are just trying to live their lives!" A knock on the door made her stop which made the other kids all sigh and Izuku rolled her eyes but then froze. She turns her gaze to Hotaru, "Was there any mention of anyone coming today?"
Hotaru places her bowl down, her half-cut tail twitching behind her, "No…if there was then the old hag would have been making us clean this place top to bottom yesterday," another bang at the door made them grimace as a screech was heard. Hitoshi and Neito stood by the six children while Izuku and Hotaru poke their heads out of the door to see the caretaker storming down the stairs.
"Can't believe this! Who suddenly shows up unannounced! There are procedures to be handled!" Izuku gulps at how angry the caretaker was, knowing that they were going to be in it when these people leave. But when she opens the door, instead she pales and tries to slam it shut, but a black combat boot sticks between the frame and door before it could do so, "Wh-what are you doing here?!"
"So, it seems that you've been warned about me," Izuku's eyes widened, heart skipping a beat recognizing that voice. But she was told… "Another checkmark against Enji," a woman with long black hair going to her mid back with a strand braided near her right ear pushed the door open. Wearing a gray blouse with brown slacks. Patches of black scales marked her arms while a dust of red scales surrounded her blue eyes. Izuku takes a deep breath, shaking as tears stream down her face even as Hotaru places a firm but gentle hold on her to keep her needed it when two more people walked behind her, two that Izuku recognized.
"Dr. Serizawa…Dr. Graham…" she whispers, making the three pause and turn to her. Dr. Graham places her hands on her mouth, tears in her eyes while Serizawa smiles adly. It was the other woman who stared at Izuku with wide blue eyes, tears streaming down her face, "Aunt Melody?"
Izuku soon found herself in the room where the children talk to the people looking to adopt, staring at the three adults. Hotaru, Neito and Hitoshi were in the room, the three not even giving them a chance to fight back. Hitoshi was sitting next to her, his hand wrapped around her wrist. "Why now?" she whispers, biting at her lip, "I was told that none of you wanted anything to do with me any,"
Aunt Melody let out a pain sort of squawk out of her throat at Izuku's words but Serizawa shakes his head. "You were lied to Izuku…all of us were lied to. After San Francisco we couldn't find your body…we found," pain filter in his voice, "We found Inko's but not yours…we didn't know at the time you were rescued, hidden with many of the other refugees"…he takes a deep breath…"one person saw that on your contact information was Enji's...a person who thought blood relation was more important than the people who your mother had decided to to be your guardians if anything happen to her. They contact Todoroki and he had them tell us that you were dead while having you ship back to Japan,"
Izuku grips her pants tightly, her knuckles turning white. She knew that was something her Uncle would have done, especially ever since Toya died. She closes her eyes remembering the blue flames, her hands dancing among them trying to reach out to her cousin who had th same dream as her…who just wanted to be a hero like her. She remembers the hatred and anger from her uncle, him blaming her…
"Alright…" Hitoshi narrows his eyes at them, "Then how do you know that she's alive now? It's been five years…"
"A few days ago, in Outpost 61, Titanus Gariki, or Mothra as we called her, hatched," Izuku's eyes widen at that, "Unfortunately during regular containment procedures, which were hacked from someone on the inside…a group storm through the base...killing everyone but a few…and taking Emma and Maddie. While looking for information, the person who allowed Todoroki to take you and had told us that you had died along with your mother, had left the information in a sort of private diary on his files, along with the paychecks that Todoroki gave him to keep him silent. Knowing what we now know, we came here as soon as we could to bring you back to Melody," Dr. Graham explains. Izuku frowns but looks down when Aunt Melody gently grasps her hand, her blue eyes shining with sadness.
"Izuku…I'm so sorry it took this long. If I had known you were alive, I promise you that I would have come here straight away," Izuku frowns but then looks down at Melody's hands, her eyes widening a bit seeing scars. She looks up at Melody and gives a small nod.
Melody smiles but Izuku then frowns, "You said that both Aunt Emma and Maddie were taken. Do you know why?"
Dr. Graham shakes her head, "The survivors haven't been able to give us much more than what the footage allows. Only that Emma and Madison were the only ones taken," Dr. Graham rubs at her face, "We don't know yet on who they are actually…but we believe that they were after the ORCA,"
"You mean," Izuku stands up wide. She could hear Aunt Melody sigh, looking at Serizawa with a look that said 'I told you so,' "You can't be serious! It may have been made long before I was even born but it was a science school project between my mom, Uncle Mark and Aunt Emma! I thought the prototype was destroyed,"
"Emma decided to rebuild it," Aunt Melody mutters in annoyance, "After San Francisco, she went home to Boston, pent years developing it,"
"She thought it could," Izuku glares at Dr. Graham.
"Would help what? Play God?" she snaps, rubbing the sides of her head, "The ORCA was meant to keep whales from the shorelines, not so you can talk to the Titans! They hear that sound, they'll think its one of them. You use the wrong frequency on on of them and you will have not only a pissed off Titan but you will be responsible for 1,000 San Franciscos,"
"Which is why we need to get it back," Serizawa whispers, "Its why we have Mark, Emma always said that between the three of them, Mark knew it better."
"Yeah but the sounds of it," Neito snarks, rolling his eyes, "It fell into the wrong hands now because it exists,"
Izuku frowns, "I may have some notes my mom had…"she then bites at her lips, looking at the other three, "Does…does this mean,"
Aunt Melody smiles, "Well with the fact that your caretaker has been accepting bribes from Todoroki," Hotaru hisses making Aunt Melody turn to her and Izuku was sure she saw her eyes widen a fraction, "And the fact that she hasn't been using any of the money for you, well its a given that this place is being shut down," she smiles her blue eyes burning, "In fact most of the children are being brought to an orphanage that a friend of mine runs…but I don't think it would do any harm if you three join us,"
"Good," Hitoshi mutters, "Because we aren't leaving Zu," Izuku smiles, brushing the purple yarn bracelet wrapped around his wrist and he huffs, rolling his eyes. Izuku snickers as Neito comes over, placing his arm over her shoulders while Hotaru ruffles their hair.
