A middle age man led his fifteen year old nephew to a room in his house and turned the light on and motioned him in. The room was filled with books and as the boy looked around, he saw weapons as well.

"I wondered if it would bypass you, like it did your old man." The man said to the boy. "It's why he drinks, he can't accept that our family legacy bypassed him. But when you told me you saw what you saw, I knew, the legacy is yours as well."

"What legacy? What are you talking about? What is all this? What did I see?"

The man walked over to a table with books on it and turned several pages and then showed the hand drawn picture on the page to the boy, whose eyes went wide. "It's real? I didn't imagine it?"

"No, you didn't. This is the accumulated knowledge of our ancestors. This is what we are."

"What are we?"

"Myth made real and so are they. I can train you, I'll prepare you as best I can and some day Sunnydale will be your jurisdiction. Think of us as police officers. We police a certain segment of the population. Those that choose to prey on humans. Some of our kind took it too far and decided these beings were demons and had to be destroyed. They're not, they're para humans. Which simply means humans with extra. At some point in prehistory they were somehow blended with animal DNA, Insect DNA and fish DNA, resulting in a being that has two forms, human and other."

"That sounds like something out of science fiction."

"I know but it's very real. We're para humans too, we see both of their faces. They can show their other face to non para humans if they want to, but they can't hide it from us, ever."

"And what do we do with the ones that prey on humans?" The boy dreaded the answer.

"If they're preying on normal humans, then our job is to protect normal humans, which means we kill them."

"But they're human too! You said so! Why can't the cops deal with them?"

"Because the world doesn't know they exist and if they did there'd be witch hunts, innocent ones would be caught up in them and witch hunts grow. Your job is to protect the greater good. Their own laws and cultures say preying on normal humans isn't allowed, so if they do, they have to expect that we'll be coming after them."

"Why is it our job?"

"Because we were made to be the police for the para humans. Whoever or whatever created us made it our responsibility, if we don't accept our responsibility, innocents will die. Police officers have to accept that it's their job to deal with the elements of any society that preys on the other elements. And whatever made para humans, made us to be the ones to do it. That's why you have to be sure when you go after one of them, that they really are harming humans. It's a horrible and painful responsibility, but a necessary one. And it's part of you whether you like it or not. You can't unseen what you'll see, could you live with yourself if you stood by and did nothing while people are hurt?"

"No, I can't, but killing them! If I can find another way - ."

"Than try. But understand, they often won't give you that option, once they choose to cross that line, they rarely want to come back."

"What does training involve?"

"Learning to use the gifts being what we are gives you. Now that you're active, you're far stronger than a normal human and you need to learn to control that so you don't accidentally hurt someone. You need to learn to use the weapons that work best against your opponents and you need to understand, many of them, whether they prey on humans or not, are afraid of us. The ones of our kind who decided these people were demons caused the rest of us a lot of problems and those problems still affect relations between us."

"God, I don't want people to be afraid of me."

"No, neither do I and yet, they are. I've spent thirty years protecting this town and still many of them are afraid of me. Not as many as in the beginning, but still some. But there's also more going on in Sunnydale than our kind of trouble."

"What else?" The boy wasn't sure if there was anything else that could shock him, he was already on overload.

"Real demons, the most common of which is vampires."

"You're kidding!"

"No, walking corpses with a demon in control and they feed on the living."

"Now those I don't think I'd have a problem dealing with."

"And if you encounter one, do so, you're certainly strong enough. At bare minimum they're four times stronger than a human. We're stronger than that. We also heal very fast, much faster then normal. And one more thing, this is a secret. Like I said before, the police don't know about them or us and most people don't either. So you can't tell your friends."

"Just one, please. I can't do this alone, I need someone to share it with."

"Okay, one. I have a good idea which friend you've got in mind and he can keep a secret."

"What are they? What are we?"

"They're called Wesen. We're called Decapitare, but more commonly we're known as Grimms."
