The other girl
Sonoko Suzuki considered herself lucky to have a boyfriend like Makoto. He was kind, respectful, smart, popular, very handsome and an awesome kisser. There was only one little problem: kissing seemed to be enough for him.
Just now, they were hanging out in his room. He was holding her against him and his tongue was playing with her with just the right amount of pressure, teasing her, making her want more. She was waiting for him to move his hands higher or lower and… nothing happened. Maybe he was too old-fashioned to try.
So she was going to make the first move! She grabbed the collar of his shirt and reached the first button. To her great dismay, he grabbed her hands and asked:
"What are you doing?"
"I just want to see you without your shirt," she said teasingly. "Show me these abs!"
"Are you trying to have sexual intercourse with me?"
She rolled her eyes. Sexual intercourse? What happened to romance?
"We're boyfriend and girlfriend, aren't we?" she asked.
"Of course."
"You don't think I'm attractive?"
She grabbed the collar of her own shirt and pulled it down, showing some cleavage. He blushed and looked away.
"Sonoko, you mean the world to me," he said. "I respect you so much. That's why I care about your purity."
"Purity? I'm not asking you to do some creepy porn stuff! I'd just like to, you know, have a little more fun!"
"Fun?"
"Yeah, a little more than just kissing. Maybe we could use a safe word. If one of us says this word, the other stops at once! Which word do you suggest?"
He blushed again, looked away and said:
"I prefer to wait until wedding."
"You're so old-fashioned!"
"You don't want to wait for me?"
Sonoko nodded. If her boyfriend didn't feel ready for sex yet, she would wait. Also, maybe he she would make him change his mind soon.
"So," she asked, "how was Paris?"
Then the door banged opened and a beautiful girl in a very short dress entered and went straight to Makoto.
"You're back!" she said, hugging him. "I missed you so much! How was Paris?"
"GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY BOY, YOU BITCH!"
Sonoko pushed the girl aside, burning with rage. How dared that girl try to steal her boyfriend right in front of her?! Well, she was going to make her pay! She knew a few karate moves Ran had taught her and she was unafraid to use them. Unfortunately for her, the girl seemed to know better moves. She pinned her onto the floor effortlessly.
"NO! YOU go away!" the girl said. "Who are you? Who let you in?"
"Are you kidding me?!"
"You two stop this now!" Makoto said.
He grabbed a girl with each hand and put them back onto their feet. They were still glaring at each other.
"Throw her out!" the skimpily dressed girl said.
"No!" Makoto said. "I won't choose between the two of you."
"What the hell?!" Sonoko said. "You had two girlfriends all along?!"
"What the hell is she saying?!" the girl said.
Makoto sighed deeply.
"I'm so disappointed," he said. "I was hoping you two would get along well."
"WHAT?!" The girls said together.
"Let me make the introductions. Kaori, this is my girlfriend Sonoko. Sonoko, this is my little sister Kaori."
The two girls fell silent. Sonoko felt terrible. Makoto had told her he had a sister who was into romantic movies, karate and computer science. She knew he was very fond of her. She had just punched her for hugging her own brother. This was wrong and Makoto was going to hate her now.
"You're his sister?" she said weakly.
"You're Sonoko? The Sonoko?"
"Well…"
Kaori stared at her for one moment. Then she laughed nervously and said:
"You're even prettier than Makoto told me."
"What?"
"You do combat sports?"
"Uh, no?"
"Then maybe you should. You really have a great punch!"
Sonoko laughed in turn.
"Thank you. I apologize for punching you. I should have guessed at first sight that you two are siblings. You look so alike!"
They shared the same skin tone and sharp features, indeed. Nature had been kind to them. Makoto sighed with relief. His two favourite girls had stopped fighting and that was all he was hoping for.
"It's OK," Kaori said. "I wasn't nice either. Makoto, why didn't you tell me she was hanging out here?"
"I wasn't expecting her either," he said.
"It was some kind of a surprise thing!" Sonoko said.
"Also," the boy said, "Mom told me you were having a sleepover at Yuzu's."
"Yes," Kaori said. "I'm just here to grab a few things. I guess you'll tell me about Paris tomorrow."
"Phone me if there's anything wrong."
She rolled her eyes and Sonoko could practically hear her thoughts: "Why are older siblings so overprotective?" Being a younger sister herself, she knew how she was feeling.
"It's only two blocks away, bro."
"Just promise you'll phone me if there's any problem."
"Riiiight."
He ruffled her hair and she rolled her eyes again. Then Kaori turned to Sonoko.
"I… Well… Have a nice day!"
Then she left the room. Sonoko sighed with relief. Things hadn't gone too bad, after all.
"Your little sister looks nice!" she said.
"Isn't she? I'm glad you like her."
"There's just something I don't get. Why does she dress like that?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you're always telling me I should dress conservatively and you're ok with her wearing this tiny skirt! She totally pulls it off, by the way, but I don't get it."
Makoto smiled.
"That's different. You're a proper young lady. Kaori is a little girl."
"Little girl? She's taller than me!"
"I guess she's a bit on the taller side, that's a family thing. But she's only fifteen."
"You know I was already searching for a boyfriend when I was fourteen?"
"I get it but my baby sister is not interested in boys. She's really, really innocent and she sleeps with a teddy bear. Look at her."
He gestured Sonoko to look through the window. Kaori was outside, grabbing her bicycle. The wind was blowing her gorgeous hair, making her look like a Hollywood superstar.
"Isn't she cute?" he said with misty eyes. "I taught her how to ride her first tricycle when she was a toddler. She hasn't changed at all."
Sonoko remembered all the times she had made fun of her friend Ran for being in denial about her feelings for Shinichi. If Ran was in denial, Makoto was a denial world champion. How could he not see that his baby sister had grown up?
"So she never tries to date boys?" she asked.
"Never, ever."
Maybe this was possible, indeed. Some girls are lesbians, ace/aro or just late bloomers, and Sonoko didn't mind them at all. The problem was, someone was bound to notice Kaori's beauty. Sooner or later, she was going to be wooed by a boy (or maybe a girl, or a modelling agency). How was her overprotective brother going to react?
"You know…" she said.
Then she stopped. Makoto was a great boyfriend but he was also way too old-fashioned. From the moment he'd realize his sister was all grown up, he would probably forbid her to wear revealing clothes or ride her bike alone. Better let Kaori enjoy her supermodel legs as long as she could.
Also, maybe she could befriend her. Maybe she could teach the 'baby sister' how to attract boys while looking innocent to her overprotective big brother.
"I really like her," she said simply.
"I'm glad you two get along."
"I'd like to spend time with her. Maybe we could have a girls day out with Ran and her some day, you know, shopping and karaoke, girl stuff…"
He said yes, blissfully ignorant.
