*Three Seconds Later*
Jacob Black Pov
Watching as the coach exits the school, running close behind him is Leah.
"LET'S GO, LEAH! YEAH!" Embry yelled, and the crowd including me started clapping. "You got this!" He added.
"Tone it down a bit dude." I cautioned.
Embry slapped my back overly excited.
"If she wins, you better shoot your shot. She'll be in a good mood." He moved his bushy eyebrows up and down, grinning idiotically.
Ignoring him, I whistled with four fingers as loud as I could and her father Harry gave me the thumbs up. He stood twenty feet away, beside my parents.
"That's my girl!" He called as Leah nodded over in his direction. Her mother Sue hasn't come to one of these games in a long time. Probably not since she was a kid.
"Jacob wants her to be his girl." Quil jokes giving Embry a high five, then laughed.
I rolled my eyes, shoving him into Embry.
"Traitor." Rachel called over, obviously overhearing Quil's comment.
I shrugged at her.
Leah has always been cool to me. I will never guess why she and Rachel hate each other. They are more similar to one another than her and Rebecca, who she's more friendly towards.
"Seth, wow. Did you know Jacob liked your sister?" Quil's little cousin Brady said to Leah's kid brother.
Brady Fuller was only twelve, a year younger than Seth. "Duh." He shrugged back.
"Dude, even the toddlers know." Jared laughed.
I ignored them.
"Hi, Embry." A girl with glasses and dark brown hair gave a wave in his direction.
I narrowed my eyes at her flirty tone.
"Angela Weber?" Quil sung.
I snorted. "Seems like someone already scored their shot."
"Shut up. We have historical studies together. Ever since we became partners in class, we've been planning study-dates." Embry smirked.
I nodded approvingly, "For how long exactly?" I ask.
"Two weeks." Embry answered.
"Not bad. Not bad at all." I encouraged his decision on getting close to Angela.
Embry laughed, giving me a shove. "We're going slow. Making things light because of school."
"Nice." I nodded looking over at Leah who was too focused on the game to look anywhere else.
"I was at her house yesterday morning." He mentioned. "Met her family. She's mainly mixed with Mexican and Italian, though a bit of Quileute on her mother's side."
"So your mother will be proud and accepting." I joke truthfully.
Embry laughed. "We won't get ahead of ourselves with that."
"Still, meeting the parents is a cool sign." I noted.
"Come on, babe. Focus!" Paul yelled and we all glared between him and Rachel.
Ew.
"Babe?" Rebecca paused to look at Rachel. With both of their hair in a ponytail, they look alike, except Rebecca is a bit thicker.
That's why she's my favorite. She likes to taste-test my cooking. She was the one to give me the a-okay on Leah's birthday lasagna. Rachel only commented on how dry my biscuits that I never gave Leah were.
"Since when?" Embry says to Paul.
"None of your business, shut up." Paul shoved Embry who shoved him back playfully.
"I bet Leah will shoot the goal before Rachel." Embry says.
"Leah or your new Forks friend?" Paul says about Angela.
"No. Leah." Embry clarified.
"Alright, Call. I take that bet. If Rachel wins, you get to be our chauffeur to all our dates for two months." Paul plans.
"Deal, and if Leah scores first- you have to tell Rachel that Leah works at the mall with you." Embry grinned like the Cheshire-cat.
"Nah, man. That's not going to happen. What we have is new, I'm not getting put in the dog house that fast." Paul recanted.
"That's my deal." Embry says not backing down.
Paul shook his head. "Fine. Deal." He gave Embry another shove.
Quil laughed, but I wasn't sure how I felt about that.
I knew Leah had a job at the mall, but I had no idea it was the same shoe store as Paul.
Paul had a major crush on Leah when we all were younger.
Leah only started a few weeks ago to save up money for college, but I'm hoping Sam's best friend Paul won't cross the line with her.
"Jake, your other girlfriend is back from the ladies room." Jared said, looking over towards the school.
I followed everyone's glare towards Bella coming from the restroom.
"She's pretty." Brady commented.
"Trust me, you're not her type." I clarified.
Quil laughed ruffing his hand through Brady's hair playfully.
"Right, I heard from Charlie that she's dating some college guy." Paul had a stupid grin on his face.
"Hey. Jake, When did Leah get back on the field? Didn't the coach bench her?" Bella says, coming to stand beside me.
I looked over at Leah as the game picked back up.
"The coach went to the locker room and got her. Clearly he sees he needs her." I informed her.
"Oh, nice." She mumbled a bit confused.
Paul's older brother Patrick was on the sidelines watching Leah guard the net, just like her he played lacrosse in high school, but then went on to play in college before hurting his ankle.
Leah's one of the best players on the team, aside from my sisters. Though, in the game Leah is a hot head. It's hard for her to keep her cool when it comes to this.
Lacrosse is her passion.
In the game, Angela swung her arm that shoots the ball towards Kim who ran, then quickly ran towards the goal.
Kim's legs as long as Leah's -scored effortlessly, slide hitting the ground.
The crowd cheered. I clapped looking over at Leah who smiled as Rachel picked Kim up by her waist.
"Nice job, Kim!" Jared called and she gave him a small wave when Rachel let her go.
Jared and Kim were a thing for nineteen months, until they took a break.
"I thought you broke things off with her." I commented.
"I did." Jared answered. "Don't mean I shouldn't keep her in my back pocket." He smirked.
"Gross." Bella replied.
Jared gave Bella an eye raise, and Paul laughed catching the look.
"So speaking of back pockets, Bella. How's date-life with that college guy from Port Angeles?"
Bella narrowed her eyes at him. "How did–"
"Because we heard that he's in his third year of community college and you're what?- a junior in high school?" Paul noted.
Bella bit her bottom lip, not responding.
"Which means… he's what? Five years older than you?" Jared asked.
"I mean, it's really none of your business." Bella wanted to snap at him clearly.
Jared laughed. "Just saying.. From the stories I heard from my older brother- college guys are wolves in sheep's clothing."
"Like I said, it's none of your business." She sassed back.
I looked up as Leah scooped the ball towards Rachel, who then swung the ball into the net.
The crowd screamed, and I whistled again. "Nice toss!" I yelled.
Leah gave me a smile, then looked at Rachel who gave her a nod of 'job-well-done'..
"Good, they're playing nice for once." I say merely to myself.
Paul smiled, clapping his hands for Rachel's goal score.
Just as the girls huddled up Kim whispered into Rachel's ear. When they both glanced over towards the bleachers.
I followed their glaze.
To my surprise, Sam Uley's eyes weren't on Leah's game. Instead his eyes were locked into Emily Young... Leah's cousin.
"What the hell?" I muttered, only having Bella and Embry in earshot.
I can see them both turning from the corner of my eye.
"I thought Sam was dating Leah?" Bella noted.
"He is, but you couldn't tell by the way he's doing some heavy eye-rumpy-pumpy with Emily."
I could feel my pulse racing.
"Good thing Leah is too busy to witness that, huh?" Bella said, and I felt the rage to go over there and smash Sam's face in.
Emily playfully put her hand on Sam's leg as if no one else was around them.
"Who does he think he is?" I growled getting ready to go over there.
"Jacob, don't. Calm down." Bella says grabbing hold of my arm, pulling me back in place.
"Yeah, man. If Leah sees you giving Sam a beat-down -You'd be the bad guy." Embry warned.
I exhaled frustrated.
The crowd cheered again and I glanced over as Leah jumped up in Rebecca's arms. "Dammit, what happened?" I exclaimed missing the action of the game.
"Leah scored and Call, here owes me and Rachel a ride home." Paul says, giving Embry a light shove.
"Whatever, a deal is a deal -I guess." Embry responded not really caring about the bet.
Paul laughed and I paid less attention to everyone else- except for Leah.
"Jake, I have to leave. Call me later and fill me in on who wins." Bella says, and I wasn't even surprised.
"Hot date?" I teased trying to lighten the dark gloom I was suddenly feeling.
Bella laughs. "Only the hottest." She jokes back.
"Later." I say.
"Bye." She smiled.
It was nice to see her so happy.
"Bye, Bells." Quil waved.
"Bye, Quil."
"Give me a call later, huh, Bella?" Jared flirted badly.
I shook my head. He was pathetic.
"Never going to happen, Jared." She rolled her eyes at him.
"There's thirty more minutes of the game left. Looks like La Push girls may win." Quil grinned pleased.
I sighed looking back towards the bleachers. Sam and Emily's eyes were still locked as they talked, neither playing any attention to the game.
I put my sight on Leah, she was too focused to notice that her cousin was flirting with her boyfriend.
I need to be the one to tell her what I've witnessed. I just pray she doesn't hate me for it.
