After the battle with Bellwether had died down, Judy sat up by Nick's side to look over him. The fox laid on the ground, unconscious.
"Nick?" she whispered, gently stroking his cheek.
But Nick did not respond. He did not even move, or open his eyes. He just laid there, still as death.
"Judy!" squeaked Fru Fru.
Judy peeked over her shoulder to see the little shrew running up to her. "How's Nicky. Is he okay?"
"Well, he's..." the rabbit looked back down at him, on the brink of tears. "He's not moving."
"Is he breathing?"
Judy opened her mouth, but did not answer. Instead, she just sighed, now more heartbroken than she was when she found out about his original plan to con her grandfather.
Seeing the look in Judy's eyes, Fru Fru felt her own eyes begin to tear up, as well. Unable to do anything else, Judy turned away and quietly began to cry into her skirt.
Fru Fru sobbed into her hands, uncontrollably. "Oh, Nick! I'm so sorry! Why did this have to happen to you? Why couldn't it have been anyone else, instead?"
The rabbit and shrew resumed their mourning for the fox that helped them throughout their journey.
But just then, Nick slowly moved his arm, and groaned softly as he began to stir.
Hearing this, Judy looked up and gasped. She hastily turned around to him as he started to get up, only to hit him in the face by accident.
"Ouch!" Nick cried in pain, and rubbed his face.
Judy grimaced at her mistake. "Nick! Oh!" She threw her arms around Nick, happy and relieved that he was all right.
Fru Fru immediately looked back up. "Nicky! You're okay!" She smiled, and quickly wiped her tears away. "Oh, thank goodness!"
Nick continued to cry out in pain, from Judy's tight embrace after almost being killed. "Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow! Let go, let go!"
"Oh!" Judy released Nick, and slowly backed away. "Sorry."
"Yeah," Nick assured her. "I know, I know. "All men are babies."." He groaned again, as he got up on his knees. He gently rubbed the scar on his arm, where one of his sleeves was ripped off during the fight with Bellwether. The scar was now visible enough for other mammals to see. But he didn't really care about it, for the first time. All he cared about, right now, was Judy.
Judy did the same, meeting eyes with the fox. "I thought you were going to St. Critters-" she started to say.
"I was," said Nick.
"You didn't take the-"
"I couldn't."
"Why?"
"Because, I..." Nick didn't finish what he was about to say. He just stared right into the bunny's royal amethyst eyes in realization.
Judy could already tell from the look in his own green eyes, why he had changed his mind about leaving and came back, and what he was trying to tell her... he loved her. Gently putting one of her paws on his cheek, the fox and the rabbit slowly leaned in for a kiss.
"Ahem!" Fru Fru cleared her throat.
Nick and Judy both snapped out of their love trance, and looked down.
Fru Fru was holding Judy's kokoshnik up, and smiled. "Your Highness?"
"Oh," Nick took the kokoshnik into his own paws. He looked at it as he and Judy got up on their feet. "They're waiting for you," he gave Judy the diamond tiara.
The rabbit looked at the crown as she took it. She thought for a minute, then smiled as she looked up at Nick, finally discovering the truth.
Later that night, Otto was back in his study. He brought Judy's kokoshnik over to a small table. As he placed it onto the table, he found a note beside it.
Otto picked up the note, and read it:
Dear Grand Pop-Pop,
Wish me luck. We'll be together in Zootopia again soon.
A kiss goodnight,
Judistasia
The Dowager Emperor let Gazelle take the note to read for herself, once he finished.
Reading it, tears of joy came from Gazelle's eyes. "They've eloped!" She grinned. "Isn't it romantic?" The gazelle dabbed her eyes with her handkerchief, still staring at the note. "It's a perfect ending."
Otto looked out his window at the distance, smiling fondly. "No," he said. "It's a perfect beginning."
Gazelle's eyes widened. "Ooh, that's even better!" Then, she got an idea. "I-I could even write that into a song! Where did I put my sheet music?" She sprinted out of the room, now having a new song to write.
Otto kept his smile on, and blew a kiss out to the distance.
On the deck of a boat, riding on the Swaine, Nick and Judy were dancing the waltz they practiced before arriving in Zootopia.
"So," Nick said, jokingly, "are all rabbits bad dancers, or is it just you?"
Judy gave him an annoyed look. She playfully responded by purposely stomping her foot on top of his.
Nick winced in slight pain, and groaned as he knelt down.
"Oops," Judy said, in a deadpan manner. "Sorry."
Nick stood back up with a chuckle. "Sly bunny."
"Dumb fox," smirked Judy.
Nick grinned at her. "You know you love me."
"Do I know that?" Judy pretended to looked surprised. She eventually returned Nick's smile. "Yes. Yes, I do."
The two happily continued their waltz. Then, they began to slow down as they stared deep into each other's eyes. Judy placed both paws on Nick's face, as the former con-artist fox and rabbit princess leaned in, and shared a passionate kiss.
Fru Fru took a peek at them from the stairs. The sight of them kissing made the little Arctic shrew blush, and she turned away, covering her eyes.
After parting from their first kiss, Nick grinned again. He playfully swept Judy off her feet in princess-style and spun her around, making her laugh.
On the railing of a nearby building, Duke Weaselton was also watching the scene dreamily, and danced along.
Just then, a light-browned fur female stoat wearing a hot pink dress came out to see the weasel. She cleared her throat to get his attention.
Duke stopped dancing, and turned around and saw the stoat. "Oh!" He said, with surprise. "Hiya, Dollface."
The stoat took Duke's hand, and gave it a kiss.
Duke blushed. He spun around a bit, before the stoat caught and hugged him.
"Wow!" The weasel said with a grin, "I tell ya what, wow!" As the female stoat kissed his cheek, he pulled down a blank black "curtain" over the scene.
"Goodnight, everybody! Woo-hoo-hoo!"
