Prologue

This wasn't how this was supposed to go down. Plans were meticulously made and there was absolutely no room for error. The chair felt like one I would have sat in a dentist's office, back when we still had those. Fear and adrenaline were coursing through my veins and at once my mind was made up.

I've been on the brink of death countless times, and my life had never flashed before my eyes. Now, however, all the things that we would never get to experience together flashed through my tired head. Intertwined with memories. So many memories. Everything reminded me of him. The computer. The chair. The ropes around my hands and feet. The man entering the room. The slap against my head. The darkness that consumed me.
