Chapter 1:

Beauty

A/N: I haven't been writing in a while, because I really didn't have any good ideas for a story. I think this is the best one I've come up with in a while. It's a story about acceptance.

If there was one thing that Queen Anna had been concerned about in the past five years, it was her appearance. As the Queen of Arendelle she was expected to look her best, which is something that she always strived for. However, in recent years, Anna had discovered that as she got older, the look that she once had when she was younger. At the moment, she was staring into the mirror, noticing that she had put on some weight recently. It wasn't much, but just a little was enough to cause Anna to worry. She had a meeting with the King of Norway in an hour and the fact that she had gained weight made her feel ugly and gross. As she continued to stare into the mirror, Kristoff walked into the room.

"Anna, the King of Norway is downstairs in the parlor," he said.

Anna heard him, but she didn't respond. Instead, she continued to gaze into the mirror keeping her hand on her stomach and turning around and around.

"Are you OK?" Kristoff asked.

"Kristoff, I have a very important question to ask you," Anna said.

"Sure."

"Do you think I'm fat?" Anna asked, turning around to face him.

Kristoff immediately went white as a sheet. To be honest, he never thought Anna would ask him a question like that.

" You're beautiful, sweetie."

"I didn't ask you whether you thought I was beautiful or not. I asked you if you thought I was fat?"

"Of course not," Kristoff said, readily giving her the answer she wanted to hear.

"Then why didn't you just come out and say that?" Anna inquired.

"Uh..I don't know. I just said the first thing that came to my mind."

"You do think I'm fat," Anna cried.

"No. I don't think that at all. Anna, this worrying about your appearance has really got to stop."

"Kristoff, look at this," Anna said, gesturing to her green dress. "This dress used to fit me perfectly well last year, but now it's so tight. I feel like I'm about to burst."

"Well, maybe you need a bigger size dress," Kristoff suggested, but instantly regretted it.

"I knew it! You think I'm fat!"

"Anna, you just gained a few pounds, but you're not fat," Kristoff consoled.

Tears started to well in Anna's eyes. She turned around and looked at herself in the mirror again. The dress was really tight on her. In all honesty, she should have worn something else, but there was no time to go to the tailor and have him make a new dress. A new dress for her fat body.

"I look disgusting," Anna said.

Kristoff came from behind her giving her a kiss on the cheek. "You could never look disgusting. As I said, you're beautiful."

"I don't feel beautiful," Anna said.

"Well, you should, because it's true."

By then Anna had had enough. She left the room to go greet the king of Norway downstairs, leaving Kristoff alone in their bedroom. Olaf walked in shortly after. Apparently, he had seen how distraught Anna had looked.

"Why is Anna so upset?" he asked Kristoff.

"Well, Olaf, you know how Anna takes a lot of pride in her appearance, right?"

"Oh, yes. She spends hours getting ready, which is strange, because she never used to be like that."

"Well, recently, she's become more concerned about her appearance. She thinks she's fat," Kristoff explained.

"Well, she has been looking a little chubby lately," Olaf mused.

"Olaf!"

"Oh, sorry, sorry. I thought I was supposed to agree with you," Olaf apologized.

"It's fine, but I just don't know what to do. How can I convince her that she's perfect the way she is?"

"Well, have you told her?"

"Many times."

"Maybe you could do something to take her mind off it," Olaf suggested.

"Yeah, but that would only last so long. There's got to be something I can do."

After the King of Norway left, Anna continued her daily duties until it was time to go to bed. While they were getting ready to go to sleep, Anna sat at her vanity stand. She combed her hair, removed her makeup, before taking a long look into the mirror. There was no denying that she had put on weight. The nightgown that she was wearing was even starting to feel too tight on her. It wouldn't be long before she would have to buy another one of those as well. Anna placed her hand on her belly, rolling up her nightgown. There were folds that hadn't been there two years ago. The sight of them made her sick to her stomach. She was fat. How could anybody love a fat woman?

Kristoff came out of the bathroom and saw his wife still staring at the mirror. He sighed, before walking up and placing both hands on her shoulders.

"Anna, you are not fat. Stop worrying about that. Appearances don't matter in the grand scheme of things. It's what's on the inside that counts."

"Thank you, Kristoff. I appreciate that."

"Good. Now let's go to bed."

Anna climbed into bed with her husband, but before blowing out the candle, she looked at the photograph of Elsa that she kept on her nightstand. It never ceased to amaze Anna how beautiful Elsa was. Her slender figure, ample breasts, and thin waist, coupled with her beautiful eyes and hair. If anyone wanted to see a perfect woman, all they had to do was look at Elsa. Why couldn't she be as attractive as her sister? Why couldn't she be as thin as her sister? Nobody likes fat women. Anna sighed before blowing out the candle. Sleep would take her mind off the matter for now.
