"Daphne Greengrass…Susan Bones, stand up," an older woman dressed in a black cloak said and two women, a blonde and a redhead, did as they were told.
They were standing next to each other at a small table, standing next to them was a brown-haired woman, and the three of them were wearing black suits.
"After reviewing all the information taken from witnesses, the forensics information, and everything involving the case of the murder of Draco Malfoy..." the judge said in a calm tone.
The redhead and the blonde were so nervous, this was something they'd been wanting to get over with for some time but they knew they had to remain calm, they knew what they did and what they didn't do, still, that didn't stop them from feeling nervous, after all, there are errors in the justice system sometimes.
"For the crime of first-degree murder, Daphne Greengrass and Susan Bones, the jury has concluded that you two are innocent," the older woman said and the two younger women tried their best to contain their happiness but they couldn't stop the tears from falling.
There were so many reactions in the room, an older blonde was completely broken, she couldn't stop herself from crying while she was comforted by a younger man who goes by the name of Blaise Zabini, meanwhile, a dark-haired man dressed in a suit was looking at the redhead and the blonde with a smile on his face.
"For the crime of justice obstruction, the jury has concluded that Daphne Greengrass and Susan Bones are completely innocent, and with this, we hope to bring justice to both parties," the woman in the dark cloak said and it didn't take too long for her to be approached by the blonde older woman who was wailing, obviously not happy about the sentence.
While the older woman was throwing tantrums at the judge, the two now innocent women were holding each other's hands while trying to silently comfort each other before finally exploding, they hugged and cried together, this whole deal was over.
Soon the two accused women and their brown-haired lawyer were approached by the dark-haired man who was watching the trial, he was smiling at them.
"Susan…Daphne…I'm glad this is finally over, I had zero doubts of your innocence," the man said and the two women suddenly stopped comforting each other to look at him before looking back at their lawyer. "Thank you so much, Hermione, without you this wouldn't have been possible," Harry said before he kissed the cheek of the brown-haired witch.
"Well, I must admit that it was quite challenging to get a law license in less than a year but I must say that it was fun!" Hermione said with a proud smirk on her face. "But most of all, I'm happy to have helped these two amazing women…Just like you thought from the start, I knew they didn't do it," Hermione said as she cleaned some of the tears in the women's eyes.
Daphne and Susan had never interacted at this level in their lives before this trial, getting to know each other was the best thing that could come out of this situation aside from their freedom of course, they have some things in common as both of them are shy, however, the blonde has a more cool attitude while the redhead is cheerful with the ones that know her, so… How did these two women end up in this situation?
But the most amazing thing is, how the hell did they manage to get the hero of the wizarding world and his best friend to help them with their case? Why would two of the three parts of the golden trio do something like that considering they've never interacted with Daphne or Susan in their lives? Well, for that we need to travel back in time, around a year ago…
At this point in their lives, it has been four years since the end of the war, but most importantly, it has been four years since the death of the most powerful necromancer in decades, that's why Draco Malfoy held a party in the mansion his mother gave him when he turned twenty-one.
At this party, he for some reason invited a very specific number of people, some of whom weren't even part of his inner circle, the people he invited were: his wife Astoria Malfoy obviously, Blaise Zabini, Pansy Parkinson, Gregory Goyle, Susan Bones, and Daphne Greengrass, he also invited Harry, Ron and Hermione, but of course they took it as an offense as the invitation was clear that the party was to celebrate the loss of the greatest wizard of all time, a complete mocking on the victims and the people who sacrificed their lives just so people like him could live.
Aside from his mother, there was no way Astoria, Zabini, Parkinson, and Goyle wouldn't assist, however, it was a surprise Daphne accepted to go considering she has never liked Draco and especially not after her sister married him, in fact, the distancing between her and her sister was one of the reasons why Daphne was thought to be one of the murderers, she had a reason to do it.
However, Daphne was more interested in seeing her sister after a long time, Draco and his mother used to restrict her a lot to the point that Astoria couldn't even see her family, and why did their parents allow her to marry that snake even under these conditions? Well, Astoria seemed to love the snake, and Narcissa helped the Greengrass family with their business that was in trouble of closing, they had no authority over Astoria anymore, she practically belonged to the Malfoys like another pretty possession in their collection.
But the most surprised guest who decided to assist was Susan Bones because not only did Malfoy mock her after her aunt was murdered by the death eaters, but it was also suspected that his father was the one who helped in her murder, sadly this was never proved as the death eaters controlled everything back then.
This is why she was seen as the other possible suspect in the murder, she wanted vengeance for what Draco's father and friends did to her aunt, and she was going to take justice justice in her own hands to make the one who killed his aunt suffer just like Susan suffered after her aunt died. How was she going to get her revenge against Lucius? By killing his son, of course.
However, Susan had her own reasons for attending that party, she wanted to face someone whom she couldn't stop herself obsessing about, and it wasn't a romantic obsession, it was more like a grudge she held against Malfoy because of what he said about her aunt, she wanted him to apologize after he insulted the memory of her brave aunt.
Susan was too vulnerable back then that she didn't have the strength to respond to his insults, but as a grown adult woman, she was ready to tell him everything she didn't say back then, and she was just waiting for the right time to catch him alone, so, after this information was revealed they found a probable reason for her to do that, it happened at the same time as Daphne, so, the two of them were treated as suspects.
It was even hinted that they worked together because they went to the restroom at the same time as Draco Malfoy did, and you might be asking yourself...Why is this detail so important? Well, he was found dead after going to the restroom at the same time these two witches did.
In different times only a sip of veritaserum would've been enough to reveal the truth, the problem here is that the potion had been banned from being used on investigations, and the reason for that is because sometimes the potion was adultered to not make it work correctly, thanks to this many death eaters avoided getting sentenced, they were helped by the insider death eaters working in the ministry.
The ministry didn't want to make the same mistakes they did during the first wave of 'Death Eater' detentions after Voldemort was defeated by Harry when he was just a baby, so, they decided to put the veritaserum to rest, they took a more muggle approach with investigations, it takes more time but at least they know they're trying their best to find the truth.
This is the reason why this trial took a long time, this was no regular death, it was the death of a member of one of the ancient families, so, even if his family committed a lot of crimes, they still have a lot of supporters in the ministry, so, the ministry needed to be careful with this trial, or there might be some bad consequences, the last thing they wanted was a revolution because people don't trust their government.
Luckily for these two women, there was someone who looked after them, and that was Andromeda Tonks, the aunt of the now deceased, so… Why would someone like her speak on behalf of the ones who supposedly killed her nephew? Well, for starters, she saw that the investigation didn't make any sense, and the second one is that Andromeda had a great relationship with Amelia Bones.
Andromeda's now deceased daughter worked alongside Amelia Bones who also happened to be Susan's aunt, and on the other hand, she used to go to school with Daphne's parents, it was a match made in heaven, so, Andromeda may look like someone without influence after being kicked out from her family, but she knows the most powerful person in the country, Harry Potter, who happens to be the hero of the world and her grandson's godfather.
It was a difficult time for Harry because he was friends with Dracon's mother, he hated her son that's for sure, but he didn't wish death on him, he didn't want that for those who think differently from him just like Voldemort did, but after hearing all the perspectives in the case, Harry was completely convinced that Daphne and Susan didn't do it, so, he didn't hesitate to put his grain of sand to help them.
The only person he knew that has a deep understanding of magical laws was his best friend Hermione Granger, the brightest and smartest witch of her generation and to say that it was a good idea to consult her would be an understatement, luckily Hermione was more than happy to help Daphne and Susan because despite the two of them being purebloods, they never treated her like Malfoy did, well, it would be weird to think of Susan doing something like that considering she's not a Slytherin, but Daphne was part of that house and yet, she never participated in those activities.
Hermione quickly understood that the only mistake these two witches committed was having bad luck, it seemed like Malfoy had gained a lot of enemies these last few years and it seems like these last few years he became more paranoid and crazy, so, after hearing that he humiliated Daphne and Susan during the party (apparently this was the reason why he invited them) Hermione had no sympathy towards the ferret.
Hermione worked so hard to get her license, it was tough for her because this case should belong to someone with decades of experience, but luckily, they were declared innocent, and a few hours after the trial ended, they were celebrating in Harry's apartment.
"Thank you for everything Hermione," Susan said with a smile on her face.
"Yes, without you we would've been placed in Azkaban for life, the ministry was looking for some scapegoats…Thank you so much!" Daphne said before surprising the bookworm with a hug while Susan kissed one of Hermione's cheeks.
"Well…If I'm going to get kissed and hugged by two pretty ladies like you I guess I should do this job more often!" Hermione said with a smile on her face. "You don't have to thank me, this was a nice opportunity for me and it has motivated me to become a minister one day, the justice system is just way too flawed!" Added the brown-haired witch.
After Daphne and Susan said their goodbyes to Hermione, they got back to the party room, Harry decided to thank his friend privately, and they shared a handshake, this past year has been so intense but it was worth it in the end.
"Well, I guess I better get going, Ron must be relieved to finally spend more time with me!" Hermione said her farewells before she disappeared.
Harry then decided to join Daphne and Susan to continue with the celebration, when he asked what they wanted to do to celebrate their freedom, they told him they wanted to party the whole night and he was going to give them that.
"Girls are you—" Harry soon got back to the room where Daphne and Susan were and he was carrying a bottle of tequila but...
What he found waiting for him took him by surprise, not even in his wildest dreams had he thought about finding Daphne and Susan in nothing but lingerie but here they were looking sexily with smiles on their faces at him, he couldn't help but gulp and get hard at the sight.
