The Date

BPOV

I went next door hoping Angela was home. I knocked on the door with the dress box in my hand and heard the soft voice of Angela letting me know she was coming to the door.

"Hey, Bella," Angela said as she slowly opened the door.

"Hey, Ang, um, I was wondering if you could help me with this." I was motioning to the box in my hands.

"Of course! Come in and we'll get ya looking like a knockout. Not that you already are, ya beautiful thing," she said as she opened the door. I set the box down and opened the lid.

"OH MY GOD, this is gorgeous! Big plans tonight?"

"Yes, I have a date and he sent me this dress. I can't possibly put this on by myself," I said as I pulled out the dress letting the material settle.

"Well, he has great taste. Where are you guys going?"

"I'm not sure he said he would be here at seven-thirty. I can't believe he bought me this. Look at the designer's name! I hope he doesn't do this if we go on another date."

We chatted while I put the dress on and she zipped it up. She helped me fix my hair and let me borrow a pair of flats that matched perfectly with the dress. It was twenty after seven so I walked back to my apartment thanking Angela profusely for putting the finishing touches on me.

"Good luck tonight, Bella," she said as I walked out the door.

As I was returning to my apartment the elevator doors started to open, revealing Edward. He looked up and smiled that stupid gorgeous crooked smile knowing what it did to me. I left my door open and walked in to grab my purse.

"You know I could have been someone else," he said as he stood leaning in my doorway looking me up and down.

"It was only open for a second and besides with that shade of hair you stand out," I said while thinking of the sex hair look he had going on and his gorgeous green eyes.

"You look absolutely stunning. I may have to keep you here to myself, Bella."

"Nope. You have to share and we have a lot to talk about tonight besides I'm starving since someone kept me from grocery shopping today."

"I guess I better feed you then. Are you ready to head out?"

"Yes," I said. I grabbed my phone, slid it into my purse, and headed out with him.

As we walked down to the elevator, I could feel his hand ever so lightly hovering over my lower back. Oh my, if that gets me all hot then what's kissing going to be like?

"I can see the dress arrived at your place and it fits you like a glove. That's my favorite color on you."

I blushed while I looked at him getting lost in his green eyes. This man did not know what he was doing to me. I fell in love with him so fast my head was spinning and I had yet to have my questions answered. After what seemed like hours of silence we finally reached the first floor. We made our way out of the lobby to where a blacked-out SUV was waiting. As we approached, the driver opened the back door for us. Edward motioned for me to go in first and he slid in beside me.

"Do you always drive in style?" I laughed as I watched the driver get in and roll up the privacy screen.

"Only when I wanna concentrate on a beautiful woman."

"So a lot then?"

"No, just for you. I don't normally date so you're the first woman I have asked on a date since high school."

"Why did you ask me out?" I said as I watched the city move past the windows trying to figure out where we were headed.

"Well to be honest after the other night you intrigued me and I want to figure you out. We have a lot in common and Alice and Jasper talk about you all the time. They trust you."

"I don't know about having a lot in common. I normally stay to myself most of the time. Alice is the only one who knows me. They try to include me in a lot of activities but I usually try to avoid it most of the time so they can have their time together."

"I have noticed that but I'm the same way. I didn't attend the same high school as Jasper." Emmett and I lost our parents when I was a sophomore in high school in Seattle. My brother was a senior."

"I am so very sorry, Edward. Alice mentioned something about that the first night. I can't imagine what that would be like not to have your parents."

"What about your parents?" he asked, quickly changing the subject.

"My dad lives in Washington. He's the Chief of Police in a small town called Forks. My mom was kinda erratic. We moved a lot when I was younger. I finally put my foot down when I was a freshman in high school. I didn't wanna keep moving and miss my high school experience. So we settled down here in Chicago. I finished high school here and went to college while she moved to Florida with her new husband."

"So how did you meet Alice?"

"When I started high school, Alice was in a few of my classes. We got to know each other and hit it off. We've been best friends ever since."

"At least you got to finish the way you wanted to. Not only with school but with an amazing friend, too. Do you still have a relationship with your dad?"

"Yes, he comes to visit now and then and I go when I can afford it. I'm hoping once I start my new job I can start visiting both of them."

The driver pulled up in front of Alinea and I looked at Edward.

"This is where we are having dinner?"

"Yes. I know the owner because I helped him get this location."

"Wow, I heard it takes months to get in here and I have always wanted to try their flaming cake dessert."

The driver opened the door for us and Edward slid out and patiently waited for my hand to help me out of the SUV. We made our way into the restaurant. Edward told them his name at the reservation desk. The server escorted us to an outdoor patio. Thank God it was heated seeing how it was still the beginning of January. What a beautiful view of the city! I also noticed we were the only ones out here. Edward pulled a chair out for me and asked the server to bring red and white wine for our drinks.

"This is beautiful out here."

"I thought we should have some privacy so the owner offered us the patio."

"Well, it is nice."

"Yes, it is. Thank you for agreeing to come out with me. I know the other night there was a lot to take in. I hope I can answer some of your questions but you'll have to know some answers are going to be vague for now. I can't give up all the mystery on the first date."

"Well, I hope you answer some of the main ones I have, like why were we being shot at."
