"Are you sure you should be doing that?" Regulus hesitantly asks Lydia. Lydia was climbing a ladder to hang some decorations outside.
"Are you implying I'm incapable?" Lydia shot Regulus a look that caused internal panic to the boy. However, he was going to make sure she was safe, despite his fears. He recalled the book Frank had given him saying that he should validate her feelings or something. Regulus wasn't exactly emotionally competent enough to understand what it meant. But experimentation couldn't hurt, could it?
"I'm not saying that," Regulus spoke reassuringly, "I'm just saying it's not exactly the safest idea for a pregnant woman. You fell off ladders plenty of times before you were pregnant, so who's to say you won't while you're pregnant? And it's a lot more dangerous for a pregnant woman to fall."
"Is falling off a ladder going to be a constant occurrence?" Lydia wondered, "because that does not seem very fun."
"You're not wrong," Lydia sighed, and got off, "I just feel very useless. I can barely do anything."
"Why don't you give Regulus an overview of everyone?" Sirius walks in, "after all, that's what you did my first time."
"That's an excellent idea," Regulus latches on, "I really have no idea who I'm meeting. That's probably not a good thing, seeing how everyone else probably knows each other."
"I guess," Lydia pouts, "whatever. Let's go sit on the couch."
An hour later, a tentative knock is heard at the door. "I'll get it," Regulus stood to get the door.
"I will," Lydia stands slowly, "I'm perfectly okay to walk to the door. You probably don't even know who it is."
"Fair point," Regulus rubs the back of his neck, "I'll come with you. Just in case."
"Never fancied you to be the overprotective type," Lydia laughed, but allowed Regulus to follow her to the door.
"Neither did I," Sirius points out, "and the two of us were raised together."
"I'm just glad Lydia has someone constantly looking out for her," Fleamont voices, "I'm sure everyone is being helpful, but a pregnant woman needs someone available at all times."
"Dia!" Nico Scamander opened his arms to his cousin, "it's been awhile." His voice turns slightly somber, "How've you been?"
"I'm fine," Lydia smiles shakily as she leads them inside, "and I see that little Rolf is doing well too."
"He is," Maria Scamander agrees, son on her waist, "say hi to Auntie Dia, big boy!" Little Rolf, almost one year old, waves his pudgy little hand at his aunt.
"Oh he's so cute," Lydia sighs, "I hope mine is as cute."
"Yours?" Nico asks, suddenly realizing Lydia's swollen stomach, "YOU'RE PREGNANT?!"
"About five months in at this point," Lydia smiles fondly, "oh, and before I forget. Nico, meet Regulus Black, Siri's ex-brother. Regulus, meet Nico and Maria Scamander. They're from Brazil. The little cutie is Rolf."
"Nice to meet you," Maria smiled warmly, "I hope we'll get to know you just as we have Sirius."
"I hope you're Sirius's opposite," Nico said, "two Sirius' could destroy the world as we know it."
"I agree with my future self," Nico announced, "two Sirius' could spell the end of mankind as we know it."
"Cut the dramatics Nico," Sirius huffed, "I'm nowhere near that bad."
"Yes you are," Nico maintained, "and these films will only prove my point."
"You're not entirely wrong," Regulus agrees, "he is most certainly a persona."
"Come Dia," Maria drags Lydia to another room, "I must tell you all the tricks to being pregnant." They left Regulus and Nico awkwardly standing there. Luckily, the Longbottoms arrive, saving them from the dreaded awkward silence.
"Nicky boy," Frank greets mockingly, "how's the wife and kid?"
"I've told you not to call me that," Nico grit his teeth, "but Maria and Rolf are doing well. They're inside if you wish to say hello."
"That I do," Augusta turns to leave, before noticing Regulus, "and who is this lad?"
"Meet Regulus Black," Frank introduces, "he's Sirius's ex-brother. Lydia and Sirius faked his death, and he's been living with Lydia since."
"Oh," Augusta shrugs elegantly, and turns to go find Maria, "happy Yule boy."
"What happens in the future that my mother, my mother, brushes something of that nature off?" Frank Longbottom couldn't help but gape at the screen.
"It's nice to see you again," Alice smiles at Regulus, "we didn't really get to speak the last time we met."
"You as well," Regulus replies, "the tables are set inside if anyone is interested in sitting inside."
"AUNTY ALLY!" 12 year old Artemis Scamander shouts, "I missed you!"
"Hello Missy," Alice smiles, "it has been quite some time, hasn't it?"
"Far too long my lovely cousin," Thee Scamander creeps up, startling everyone, "and I see Frank has finally managed to knock you up."
"Theseus" a smooth, stern voice sounded from behind, "refrain from speaking in such a vulgar manner."
"Seems poor Josephine is still dealing with that man child," Lyetta tutted, "I feel for the poor lady. No one deserves to have to put up with Thee on a daily basis."
"I will never understand what you two have against your older brother," Newt sighs, "although, who am I to wonder? My relationship with my older brother Theseus wasn't much better either."
"My apologies Alice," Thee bowed slightly, "I meant no disrespect. Am I in the clear Josie?"
"Yes," Josephine Scamander walked up to her husband, "you are. Please take the children inside, and make sure they all greet Lydia. It is only polite."
"Of course," Thee assures his wife, before taking a double take, "did a younger version of Sirius somehow time travel. Because there's a person who looks like he used to look standing in the room."
"Of course not you buffoon," Nico takes the opportunity to mock his brother, "this is Regulus Black, Sirius's ex-brother."
"Then what's he doing here?" Thee asked bluntly, earning himself a slap from his wife.
"Lydia and Sirius faked my death," Regulus intercedes, before Nico could mess his story up, "and Benjy and Lydia opened their home to me. That is, until Benjy's untimely passing. Ever since, I've been living here with Lydia, and ensuring she doesn't accidentally kill herself or her child."
"She's been that bad?" Frank asks sympathetically, "she's always been a stubborn risk taker. I take it you've had to stop her from pulling ridiculous stunts at least twice a day."
"You seem to have an accurate picture," Regulus sighs, "today alone I've stopped her from riding down the stairs and climbing a ladder. It's a strenuous job."
"Sorry Regulus," Lydia apologized to the first year, "seems your future self has been subjected to the Lydia treatment."
"I don't think future me minds all that much," Regulus pointed to the screen. Indeed, older Regulus had said all that with a rather fond look in his eyes.
"Wait a minute," Thee's eyes had widened, "back track for those of us out of the know. DIA'S PREGNANT?!"
"Approximately five months in," Regulus, unfazed, answers, "she has an appointment to determine the gender next week. You are welcome to go and discuss it with Lydia herself. She's inside."
"I can't believe this," Jospehine's hand is on her mouth, "the poor girl. She's already lost Benjy. This must have been a huge shock."
"It was," Frank sighs, "Alice and I took her to St. Mungo's to get tested. All in all, she's taken it rather well."
"Dia's having a baby?" 17 year old Mallory Scamander asked, walking in with her 15 year brother Jacob. They were dressed in typical 80s American fashion, startling the more traditional English witches and wizards.
"Are they in a phase?" Alice whispers to Josephine.
"It's not just them," Josephine sighed audibly, "it's the entire America. It's the newest fashion statement. I told them to dress a tad more formally, but they were rather insistent."
"Teenagers," Alice rolled her eyes, before looking at her surroundings, "why are we all standing here? Let's go sit inside."
The scene shifts to the family all settling at the tables. The kids were sitting and eating, and the adults were all talking. Regulus had, somehow, managed to make friends with Mal and Jay.
"They get along!" Sirius cheered, "my baby brother made friends!"
"Aren't you happy?" Andromeda asked her younger cousin, who had been sitting with her for most of the film.
"I don't know," Regulus shrugged, "I guess I'm happy for future me? It's not really relevant to me now."
Andromeda groaned. She wasn't getting anywhere with him. This was frustrating.
"Alright," Lydia clanked her glass of sparkling juice with her spoon, "it is time for us to go around and say our moment of rebirth. For all those who were too dumb or intoxicated to remember from last year, or simply are new to this, I will explain. Yule is the time of the Winter Solstice, the rebirth of the sun and the light it shines on Earth. Therefore, we must ask and answer the question. How have we re-birthed ourselves this year? What have we done to transform ourselves? How about you start Mal?"
"See," Fleamont showed his daughter, "even future you agrees. It's a tradition."
"Future me is also an orphan, widow, and hormonal mother to be," Lydia deadpanned, "she's bound to be more sentimental than I am."
Fleamont was too stunned by the depressing nature of his daughter's statement to argue the matter further.
"Well," Mal cleared her throat, "I experienced rebirth in my life when I decided to begin getting along with one of my housemates. Catherine Green and I have been rivals since her first year, and I'm proud to say we have stopped fighting."
"And you got a boyfriend," Artemis added cheekily, "Aaron's really nice. He gets me candy."
"You what?!" multiple aunts and uncles stood in overprotective wrath, "who dares to ask our Mal out?!"
"Simmer down," Lydia laughed, "Mally, did you ask him out like I told you to?"
"Of course it was Dia," Frank shakes his head, "it seems she's learnt how to cause mischief in more subtle ways."
"Yep," Mal said, a slight blush on her face, "I asked him out first month back to school. We've been dating since."
"You knew?!" Thee turns to his cousin with betrayal, "how could you?"
"If I'm not mistaken," Lydia tilts her head, "you're married."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Thee's face forms one of confusion.
"It means you identified that you loved someone," Lydia calmly elaborates, "and acted on your feelings. Why would you deny that to your daughter? Or if it had been the other way around, to the very kind boy that Mal fancies."
"Did Lydia just say something wise?" Dana Eulalie gasps, "Mom! Get the camera out!"
"That was a very mature thought," Fleamont kissed his daughter on the forehead, "and I'm very proud of you for voicing it."
"I guess she's right," Nico sighs, "I wouldn't want to get threatened just because I love someone."
"Does that mean you won't shovel talk my future husband?" Lyetta eagerly asks her brother.
"Since I'll be forgetting this," Nico smirks, "I highly doubt that."
"Darn it," Lyetta grumbled, "almost got it."
"You're so much like your father," Newt shakes his head, "he thought the same. Your own child will be a lucky one indeed."
"Thanks for reminding me," Lydia smiles, "my rebirth moment was when I found out I was going to be a mother. It changed my entire lifestyle. Literally."
"And we're all excited for you," Esther reassured her younger cousin, "now that I know, I'm going to knit you a baby blanket, just like your mum did for me. Do you know the gender?"
"Regulus said she has an appointment next week," Thee, desperate to be relevant, adds, "and you better let us all know immediately. I can't believe Frankie knew before us all."
"Speaking of," Lydia turns to Regulus, "would you like to share your own rebirthing moment? I'm pretty sure you have plenty of options to choose from."
"He does," Lyetta agrees, "lucky brat. I never know what to say."
"Visiting Sirius's apartment that night," Regulus immediately answered, "I'd be dead if I didn't go there. Wouldn't have had any other rebirthing moments."
"I'm afraid to ask this," Bart asks regardless, "but why would a 17 year old be dead?"
"He wanted to go visit a cave of inferi by himself," Sirius interjected, "Lydia and I managed to talk him out of it."
"I'm suddenly more intrigued," Lyetta glanced at Regulus, "why did you want to go there anyways?"
"To kill the Dark Lord," Regulus shrugged casually, ignoring the gaping looks of the other people, "turns out that wouldn't have helped. So I didn't go drowning in an inferi cave."
"Although he now has a sick depression cave," Sirius added, "now that we cleared away the inferi, the place is pretty good if you want to be alone."
"I'm suddenly worried for the sanity of you three," Tina looked concernedly at her niece, "are you three quite alright?"
"No we are not," Sirius stated brightly, "but that's irrelevant."
"Why is it that both Regulus and Sirius caused an uproar with their rebirthing moment?" Lydia clucked her tongue, "let's ignore all of this, and move on."
In direct parallel to the Yule of 1972, the Yule of 1979 had a son of the Back Family learn what family is like. Once again, the Potters (and Scamanders and Longbottoms) had saved a Black.
