AN: A first look at a MHA story with Kaminari being the protagonist. I got the idea from a thread discussion I had with 'Greytail' on his 'What If' collection over on 'Archive of our Own'. Basically, Kaminari is one of my favorite characters who doesn't deserve how his classmates treat him so this is one where sparky boi gets some early help and let's his potential shine.

Bring the Thunder

-Kaminari-

"Hey! Leave him alone!" Kaminari shouted as he charged at a group of bullies. He'd been walking through the park in the new town his family had moved to, his parents letting him explore, when he saw a bunch of other kids beating up someone with green hair.

"Fuck off!" the leader of the group of bullies, a snarling ash blond with explosions popping out of his hand, turned on Denki as the electricity user put himself between them and the verdette.

"No!" Denki fell into a, admittedly bad, fighting stance, his nerves rising as he realized how outnumbered he was.

"Then you can get some too!" one of the other bullies grabbed Denki only to yell in pain as he got zapped, instantly turning to run away crying. At the sight of one running the others bolted, inadvertently dragging the cursing leader away with them.

"Wait…I won?" Denki blinked in confusion before grinning and fist pumping, "Aaaaww yeah, who's the man? I'm the man!"

"Whoooooa!" the verdette was gaping as Denki remembered why he'd come over there in the first place.

"Are you alright?" Denki frowned as he forced his electricity to calm down before helping the other person up.

"Y-yeah." The crying verdette nodded "N-nobody's ever stood up for me before."

"What?" Denki gaped "But why?"

"…It's cause I'm quirkless." Denki's new friend, he'd already decided so no take backs, sniffled as they flinched, as if expecting Denki to hit them.

"So?" Denki tilted his head confused "So's my Uncle and he's the coolest person I know!" his Uncle was an electrician, anything related to electricity was automatically awesome.

"…I'm Izuku Midoriya."

"Denki Kaminari!" Denki grinned as he high fived his new friend, "Now come on, let's play!"

"Izuku!" Inko called out with a frown, "Where are you?" her boy never stayed wandering the park for this long, especially since she'd already seen the Bakugos leave.

Spotting a dash of familiar green out of the corner of her eye, she approached and saw her son sitting with another child at a picnic table, the two happily chattering away. As she got closer she could tell they were talking about the blond boy's quirk.

"I can't believe I never thought to use it like that!" the blond boy was just as energetic as her son was "When I get to train I always just blast out as much power as I can."

"Denki!" Izuku whined in frustration "You said that shorts out your brain!" her son's new friend, Denki, grinned sheepishly at that.

"Izuku, there you are." She decided to approach, somewhat concerned at the statement of 'shorting out brain'.

"Hey Mom!" Izuku beamed at her with a bigger smile than she'd seen from him in a long time "This is Denki, he has this awesome electrical quirk!"

"And Izuku is really smart!" Denki tossed a compliment back her son's way as the verdette blushed.

"I'm glad to see you made a new friend Izuku." Inko smiled happily, "How did you two meet?"

Her stomach twisted when Denki instantly frowned angrily "Some angry kid with explosions who wouldn't stop cursing was beating him up with a bunch of other bullies." Denki didn't notice her son frantically trying to shush him as the new boy unknowingly threw someone she knew under the bus.

Inko's eyes narrowed "Is this so?" she turned to her son "Izuku, how long as Bakugo been doing this?" her sun just gulped nervously.

AN: So yeah, just a quick look at the premise. I feel like Denki doesn't get a lot of love and has a lot of potential so here he meets Izuku when they're both young. I wanted a friendship that would bring out the best in both.
