In the quantum realm, Kon relentlessly trained by fighting hundreds of his clones with his sword. As he injured himself, he healed instantly with his Kryptonian power. Kon finally killed all of his clones. "I need to do more than just be faster. I need power," Kon said to himself.
Salu then saw two Kons in front of her. "Long time no see," Insane Kon said to Kryptonian Kon. His voice was creepy and psychotic, filled with violence.
Insane Kon immediately unleashed his fury on Kryptonian Kon. The two clashed with their swords with Kryptonian Kon becoming overwhelmed and slamming into the molecular structures around them. "For the longest time, you were the king, and I was the horse. Now, that's about to change again," Insane Kon said.
"Not if I defeat you here," Kryptonian Kon said to him.
"Defeat me?" Insane Kon scoffed.
"Don't tell me it's impossible after this," Kryptonian Kon said as he powered up.
"I'm telling you it's impossible," Insane Kon said as he went Super Insane. "Let's have some fun!" Insane Kon went for a strike. Kryptonian Kon evaded it and then fired heat vision at him. Insane Kon deflected the beam away as if it were nothing.
Insane Kon then clashed with Kryptonian Kon's sword and powered up a blast. "Big Bang Attack." Kryptonian Kon was hit with a nuclear-sized explosion in the quantum realm.
When energy settled, Kryptonian Kon was a bloody mess but began to heal quickly. "You're really bad at this, Kon. Big Bang Attack is an Insane technique I invented," Insane Kon taunted.
"Not a clever name," Kryptonian Kon said as he healed from his injuries.
"All you do is copy from me. You may have abilities, but all your techniques come from me," Insane Kon said. "Now, give up. You don't have what it takes to reach the next level of Super Insane."
"I don't need Super Insane forms. I'm Kryptonian," Kon told him off.
"Shut the fuck up," Insane Kon said as he grabbed Kon's face and pushed him through molecular structures. "What's the difference between a king and his horse? Form, abilities, power. What sets us apart is Insane instinct. What someone needs to be king is the Insane desire to engage in battle and to obtain power and the desire to mercilessly crush and trample your enemies. The absolute desire to engage in battle! You have no Insane instinct. You try to defeat your foes with reason. That's like fighting with a sheathed sword. That's why you're weaker than I am, Kon."
Insane Kon then sliced through Kryptonian Kon's gut with a mortal strike. "I don't want a king that's weaker than I am. I won't ride around with a king that will get us both killed. Fuck that."
Kryptonian Kon grabbed Insane Kon's sword keeping it still. "Perhaps what you say is true but now...I need Kryptonian attachments. The same attachment Kal-El had toward Earth and his family. The same attachment Zod had to recreate Krypton on Earth. The same attachment mother has with her sister."
"Attachments?" Insane Kon scoffed.
"It won't be the thrill of battle that wins me this fight but my attachment to my sister. I'll kill every motherfucker that gets in my way...for her," Kryptonian Kon said as his eyes glowed red.
Kryptonian Kon blasted a hole through Insane Kon's chest. "Looks like you have some fight in you. Fine. You defeated me here but don't forget that either of us can be king or horse," Insane Kon told him and then vanished.
Kon then awoke having been in deep meditation. Tensing up, he powered up. His golden aura flared all around him. Kon screamed in effort as his muscles bulked up. The quantum realm began to spark all around him. His muscles continued to increase stretching out his suit. In a flash of light, Kon had reached Ultra Super Insane.
In the real world, Mon and his lieutenant, Thom, went for an enthusiastic walk around the base. Nura confronted him. "So, you're together just as I suspected," Nura said accusingly.
"I hope you're accusing me of something actually nefarious because that sounded really queer," Mon smirked.
"What's your deal, Mon?" Nura demanded.
"Whatever are you talking about?" Mon asked playing dumb.
Nura glowed with energy. "I know what you're doing. Should I expose you?"
"What difference would it make?" Mon asked. "You're not a threat to me. I don't even need to fight you at all."
"Get lost, Thom. This is between Mon and I," Nura ordered.
Thom hesitated, thinking he would be in deep shit with Mon if he left. Nura and Mon engaged each other with their swords. Mon remained on the defensive as he merely evaded Nura's strikes. Nura powered up a wide white aura around her and clashed once more. Mon quickly took the upper hand with lightning-fast strikes that Nura managed to evade.
"Not so fast," Nura chided.
"I suppose it helps to know all my future strikes," Mon mocked.
"You're going to regret this game of yours," Nura said. She took to the air and fired off an astral projection of a dragon down upon Mon. The dragon hit Mon and the nearby Thom at the same time.
"Holy shit!" Thom exclaimed as he was caught in the dragon and thrown across the base.
Nura leaped up again and fired her dragon down on Mon. He merely raised his hand and fired through it, evaporating it. Nura got behind Mon for a close-quarter strike. Mon fired an index finger through his cloak to get at her. Nura blocked the beam just barely, took a knee to center herself, and was dragged across the ground from the force of it.
"I will not consent to this. I will not fail this moral test. What you're doing will create an insurrection in the ranks," Nura said to Mon.
"Maybe that's what I want," Mon replied.
"You're her father. Stop this madness," Nura beseeched him.
"Take it up with Kara," Mon said dismissively and then teleported away.
"Believe me, I will," Nura said resolved.
The next day, there was an Insane revolt. Eltro, Ol, Dax, and Laurel decided to back Kon's efforts if only to create chaos in the base. Brin, Tasmia, Gim, and Luornu went to confront them. Gim had been healed since the incident at the gate and was resolved to not fuck up again.
"What's your deal, Eltro? Did you lose your self-respect when Kon defeated you?" Tasmia mocked.
"Fighting all four of you together wouldn't even be a warm-up," Eltro shot back.
"We're going to go now and find Kon. Good luck!" Laurel cheered him on.
"I'll be right there," Eltro assured Ol, Dax, and Laurel.
"You'll be right there? If you really think you can fight all four of us that easily, you must have lost your sanity," Tasmia chided.
"Sanity? Whatever would I do with that?" Eltro grinned.
"It's time to put an end to Insane arrogance," Brin said unimpressed.
Eltro suddenly powered up and punched Tasmia through a building. He then grabbed a hold of Brin and threw him to the ground, buckling the ground as he did. Rings suddenly appeared around Eltro and formed a black tent around him. Eltro was now deprived of all his senses. Within the tent, Tasmia was able to keep all of her senses. She casually went up to Eltro and slashed him a few times with her sword. Eltro tried desperately to get to her but was wildly off the mark.
Tasmia then sliced deep into Eltro's gut. Eltro immediately grabbed her sword and regained all of his senses. "So, there you are," he said grinningly. Eltro sliced deep across Tasmia's torso, dropping her. The black tent then evaporated around them. Eltro painfully took Tasmia's sword out of his gut and was about to use it on her when Brin intervened in his wolf form.
"You're one ugly motherfucker," Eltro grinned amusedly. "You must be great at furry conventions."
"You have no respect for inner strength," Brin lectured. "I won't hold back."
"I can't wait to kill you so you can reincarnate into some other beast," Eltro mocked.
Gim then appeared in his giant form as Luornu took the injured Tasmia away from the scene.
Rokk went for a stroll toward the execution stage when he was confronted by Ulu. "Where do you think you're going? You're supposed to be locked up."
"I'm going to save Mara," Ulu said resolved.
"Yeah, no," Rokk refused him.
"You going to stop me?" Ulu asked.
"Obviously," Rokk said obviously.
"I've developed a new skill, a game not even you can escape. In this game, we both choose a color," Ulu said to Rokk. In this face-off, Ulu wore a white suit white while Rokk wore black robes. "Black," Ulu said.
"I won't play silly children's games with you," Rokk declined. "Scatter," he said as his sword formed thousands of blades. The blades surrounded Ulu and hit him from all sides.
Ulu remained standing virtually unharmed. "You're caught in my game. I chose black which means I can only cut the parts of your body that are black, and you can only cut what is black on me, which is none. However, since I am not wearing black, the damage I can inflict on you is minimal. Now, it's your turn to name a color."
"I don't think so," Rokk declined. Metal swarmed around Ulu creating a hollow orb around him. Rokk then sent the orb up in the air and slammed it back down where it shattered into shards. Ulu was bloody and broken from the force of the impact.
"Shall I tell you the difference between you and I? It's class. You're like a monkey trying to catch the moon. No matter how he struggles, the moon is just the reflection in the water he sees so he only sinks into the water. Still, you can be proud you still resemble a humanoid form...mostly."
"It's not over," Ulu said as he tried to stand.
Rokk slammed highly reflective blades through Ulu's hands and feet to pin him to the ground. "The next time you move, I won't hold back. Your silly game is no match for colorless reflective metal," Rokk told him. "Do you really think you can protect Princess Mara now?"
"No...," Ulu muttered.
"That's what I thought," Rokk said and then calmly walked off.
At the execution ground, Drake, Tinya, Jo, Imra, and Garth showed up with their subordinates: Dirk, Chuck, Ayala, Lornna, and Val. Rokk eventually arrived alone as he had just beaten the shit out of his subordinate. "Kind of low turnout for a princess," Tinya said dryly.
Drake took command of the execution. "Do you have any last words, Mara?" he asked her. Mara was still in her white prison uniform with Kryptonite rings around her hands and neck.
"Don't harm my brother. He means well," Mara said simply.
"Of course," Drake said with false sincerity.
Mara nodded and then devices on her hands and feet caused her to rise and attach her to a very tall giant cross. Her arms were outstretched like a crucifixion. Drake then pointed to the air and created a large, suspended firestorm. With his hands and mind, Drake formed the firestorm into a bird. With Mara under Kryptonite, the firebird would incinerate her into ash instantly. It would be painless, probably, maybe. The Vindicators watched in awe as the firebird came closer to Mara.
As the firebird went straight for Mara, it was suddenly blocked by Kon's hand. Kon held the firebird back even in his base form to the amazement and concern of the Vindicators down below. "Sup?" Kon said to Mara.
"I didn't ask you to save me. You'll be killed for sure now. I'm resigned to my fate. Go away," Mara told him off.
The firebird gave a screech, backed off, and then went for another strike. "Bring it on," Kon smirked.
"You won't survive. Get out of here!" Mara shouted at him.
Kon ignored her and prepared to block the firebird, a nuclear fire capable of nuking the entire area. Suddenly, a forcefield went around the firebird keeping it from impacting Kon. A strike of lightning hit the firebird causing it to shatter and dissipate inside the forcefield. Imra withdrew the forcefield showering them all in a rain of fire.
"I don't know what the fuck is going on, but I'll take it," Kon said pleased.
"What are you doing?" Mara demanded as Kon sliced her off the cross and disabled the devices around her hands and feet.
"I've come here to rescue you, got it? Now, shut the fuck up," Kon told her.
"What is your plan now?" Mara asked skeptically.
"Honestly, I'm just winging it," Kon admitted. "I'm thinking we run away."
"How? Those are Vindicators below," Mara pointed.
"Yeah, well, I'll just have to kick their asses then," Kon said nonchalantly. "I'm going to save you and we're going to get away, find ourselves an uninhabited world, make a house for ourselves, maybe a couple of kids."
"What the...?" Mara wondered.
Kon spotted Ulu in the distance with his falcon vision. He looked completely fucked up but alive. "Took him long enough," Kon said displeased.
"He is the most powerless Vindicator ever," Mara said uncertainly.
"Well, beggars can't be choosers," Kon said dismissively. "Hey, Ulu, get ready for this pass," he said as he held Mara up above his shoulders.
"What the hell?" Ulu wondered.
"Go long," Kon said as he threw Mara in his general direction.
Ulu caught Mara with the two slamming into the ground. "Get her far away from here and protect her with your life," Kon ordered him. Ulu then took off with Mara in his arms.
"Stop them, you, fools," Tinya snapped at the vice-captains.
Dirk, Chuck, and Ayala chased after Ulu which wasn't too difficult as he was slow in his condition. Kon suddenly appeared to block them. He falcon punched Chuck hard to his fat gut, gave Dirk a solid uppercut, and punched Ayala to the chest. All three fell to the ground stunned. Kon quickly went for his sword and blocked a swing from Rokk.
"Why are you so persistent in saving Mara? It's against the law," Rokk said to Kon.
"Fuck the law...and fuck you," Kon spat.
Back at the execution site, there was some confusion. Tinya immediately beat Val down believing he was sympathetic to Garth's treason, which he was. Garth was about to make a move when Drake got in his way.
"What you have done by defying the Supreme Leader is unforgivable. I've been waiting a long time to let loose my power," Drake said to him.
"Garth, let's get the fuck out of here," Imra said to him.
"What about Val, our faithful ally?" Garth asked.
"Fuck'em," Imra said urgently.
"I think you're right," Garth said and then flashed them both away from the execution site as fast as lightning.
Tinya took Lornna down to the ground and placed her foot on her chest. "If I see even one bug, I'll crush your chest," she threatened. Tinya suddenly shrank down to the quantum realm disappearing from view.
Jo looked around confused. "As the new guy, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to heal everyone or just the good guys. Fuck, I don't even know who the good guys are. I'm going to check in with the boss."
Garth and Imra materialized a good distance away from the execution site. Imra immediately threw up. "This should be far enough," Garth figured only for Drake to already be present. "Well...shit."
"Radiation is as fast as lightning," Drake said calmly.
Garth glowed with lightning buzzing all around him. Imra created her maximum forcefield. Drake ignited in a firestorm around them. The flames roared intensely scorching the ground and super-heating the air. Drake glowed so hot it was like the surface of the sun.
"How the fuck are we supposed to fight that?" Garth wondered.
"We could try to talk," Imra suggested. "Is there no other way but fighting?" she asked Drake.
"You're committing the crime of obstructing justice," Drake accused.
"What does justice even mean to us? Shouldn't we follow our own sense of justice?" Imra beseeched him.
"And this is my sense of justice," Drake replied.
"Damn, walked right into that one," Imra sighed.
"What about universal justice, Drake? Since when is it okay to execute a confused brainwashed minor without a trial on the orders of her parents? That sounds fucked up to me," Garth said.
"Nonsense," Drake disagreed. "It's too late for words."
"If we compromise his suit, we're fucked. If we try to escape, we're fucked. We just have to contain him," Imra figured.
At the execution site, Kon and Rokk clashed repeatedly with their swords at high speed. "You've mastered flash-step, but it's no match to magnetism," Rokk said to Kon.
"You're limited to just the magnetism of Earth. I have no limits," Kon told him.
"Pretentious brat," Rokk said unimpressed. "I'll execute you and your sister with my own hands."
"What's your deal, asshole?" Kon demanded.
"I was assigned to the legal department by the Supreme Leader, and I intend to carry out my duties," Rokk said simply. "No matter what."
"I don't like it," Kon said immaturely.
"Too fucking bad," Rokk told him off.
"I'm going to use everything I have to beat your ass. Then, I'll make you apologize to Mara with tears in your eyes," Kon promised.
"What a shallow taunt. If you actually defeated me, I would thank you for granting me the sweet release of death," Rokk replied. "Scatter," he said as his sword broke down into thousands of blades.
Kon fired on Rokk with an energy beam. The beam sliced a line in the ground and nearly hit Rokk, a warning shot. "I'm going to render you to dust," Rokk said annoyed. Tall blades suddenly erupted from the ground and scattered into millions of blades. Kon immediately took to the air to escape the swarm of metal shards and fired. The beam was blocked by the swarm of shards.
"How naive," Rokk said. Shards went behind Kon and slammed him into the ground. Kon was now in a crater in the ground and a bloody mess.
"Damn, I thought I could fight still in my base form, but I guess not," Kon panted painfully.
"Obviously not," Rokk agreed.
Kon powered up to Super Insane with a surge of energy. He cupped his hands and created a sphere of energy in his hands. "Final Flash!" he said as he fired it off. The beam hit a swarm of metal shards harmlessly.
"I guess your final flash can be blocked by just one shard," Rokk mocked. "I'll make you pay for stepping on our Vindicator pride."
Kon increased his speed dramatically and had his sword blade at Rokk's throat. "Fuck your pride."
"Do you think you really have me?" Rokk asked calmly. Kon suddenly realized he couldn't move his blade. Kon gave a shout as he tried to push forward into Rokk's throat. Rokk merely pushed him back as he took control of the metal in Kon's sword. Kon went for several strikes with Rokk stopping each time before he could hit. Rokk flipped Kon on his ass with ease. Kon swung at Rokk only for the sword to stop before hitting him. Rokk then lifted the blade above his head and pushed Kon away. Kon did some fancy moves at fast speed to confuse Rokk on his approach. Rokk calmly pushed him back as he got close.
Metal shards then swarmed to get Kon. He evaded them and tried to get a hit on Rokk at fast speed only to be repelled. Kon finally got through the metal shards to get at Rokk's throat only to be pushed back again. "You seem to be of the notion that I must consciously be aware of your moves. That is not the case. No matter how fast you are, you will not get through the magnetic field around me. It exists at all times whether I sense you or not," Rokk told him.
Kon then noticed he was now inside a special magnetic field with suspended swords rotating around them ready to strike him at any angle. "Alright, this sword isn't really helping me," he realized and sheathed it. Rokk disintegrated one of his swords and then used the metal to wrap bracelets around Kon's wrists and ankles. "What the fuck?" he wondered.
Rokk repeatedly slammed Kon against the wall of swords taking control of the metal bracelets around Kon's body. Kon was forced up against the sword blades as Rokk approached him. "Did you think you were fucked only if you had a metal endoskeleton? I assure you, anyone who goes up against me is fucked."
Kon tried to escape only to have a sword blade slammed through his foot pinning him to the ground. Rokk then opened his fist sending a metal projectile through Kon's shoulder and lung. Rokk then summoned a sword into his hand. "I'm going to end this now."
"Okay, I'm taking over now. You suck, Kon!" a shrill voice came from Kon's mouth.
"The fuck?" Rokk wondered.
Kon powered up to Ultra Super Insane with a surge of energy that blasted away Rokk's magnetic field of floating swords. Kon got close to Rokk and fired an energy attack he couldn't deflect. Rokk emerged from the explosion bleeding and shaken up. Kon suddenly lost his Ultra Super Insane form as he regained control of himself.
"Sorry, that was my inner Insane self," Kon said apologetically.
"Are you saying all of your antics up to now have just been your Kryptonian self?" Rokk asked concernedly.
"Something like that," Kon grinned. "Shall we start again?"
Rokk took hold of the metal around Kon and pushed him high into the atmosphere, through space, and slammed him into the moon. Rokk then rose into the air and formed an aluminum translucent shield around him that also acted as an air bubble in space. Metal from the Earth created a mini-solar system around Rokk at an extremely fast speed making it difficult for any opponent to get to him.
"Fuck me," Kon groaned on the moon. He powered up and shot back to the Earth toward Rokk.
Rokk used the magnetism of the Earth to speed around it as Kon approached. Kon fired on him with countless discs and beams that were deflected off the rotating metal debris around Rokk. Mini-magnetic fields around Kon exploded in fusion nuclear detonations. Kon evaded these explosions as well as metal debris determined to get attached to him. Whenever this happened, Kon had to melt them off.
Kon finally penetrated Rokk's mini solar system of metal debris and punched Rokk hard back down to the Earth. The two hit the ground near the execution site. Rokk was on his back stunned but still alive. Kon dropped down as well. "Got you, bitch!" Kon said excitedly and then started coughing up blood as tiny metal shards shredded his lungs.
Kon fell to the ground devastated and powered down. Rokk struggled to get back to his feet. "You really want to know why I'm so determined to kill your sister? It's because death will end her suffering. As much as you enjoy battle, pain, and death, she feels the opposite. All she desires is peace and that's not something the Vindicator Corps can give her."
"When this over, I'm going to find her that peace no matter how many motherfuckers I have to kill," Kon pledged.
"In that case, I'm tired. The victory is yours, Prince Kon. I've assessed the situation and I'm leaving," Rokk said and then walked off.
Kon got back to his feet amazed. "I won! I'm the champion! Oh, God!" he said as he started coughing up blood again and collapsed.
A suspicious Nura took her subordinate, Berta, to Kara's office. Upon blasting through the security door, she found Kara's body in her office. Her throat had been slit, she had been sliced several times to the torso and was dead. "Oh my God," Nura realized and looked for vital signs.
"Holy shit," Berta said stunned.
"The blood is dry," Nura realized. Kara had been dead since Kon's insurrection. "How could I not have foreseen this?"
"Yeah, it looks bad," Thom said as he casually entered the room.
"Did you do this?" Nura asked accusingly.
"Why? Because I'm black?" Thom asked offended and took off.
"After him," Nura ordered Berta.
Thom escaped to the roof with Berta close behind him. Thom fired at Berta dropping her to her knees. "That's right. Just where I want you. Every time I hit you, your weight doubles. Eventually, you can't even move," Thom said to her.
"I don't need to move to fuck you up," Berta said as the wind picked up. A tornado formed around Thom and spun him around violently. The wind, itself, tore into his clothes and skin. The roof began to tear apart and the debris from it bashed and sliced Thom up. Berta directed the tornado to take Thom down the street away from her. Then she was able to get back to her feet. Thom hit a building wall with a thud as the wind died down, knocked out cold and broken.
Inside, Nura found Mon and Projecta hanging out. "Yo," Mon said as he noticed Nura.
"What the fuck is going on?" Nura demanded.
"Thom didn't provide much of a distraction," Projecta noted.
"He is a diversity hire after all," Mon sighed.
"You killed Kara," Nura accused them.
"It wasn't my intention to traumatize you," Projecta said apologetically.
"Since when were you two comrades?" Nura asked confused.
"Oh, we're more than just comrades. I've wanted Projecta since the beginning," Mon said.
"I respected you, Mon. How could you do this?" Nura asked angrily.
"Admiration is the farthest thing from understanding," Mon said coldly.
"I'm going to kill you," Nura said resolved, and formed an astral projection of a dragon. The dragon went straight through Mon. Nura's right shoulder, arm, and side suddenly got sliced open, dropping her. The real Mon then materialized next to her.
Jo then entered the room looking confused. "Whoa, what the fuck is going on around here?" he wondered.
"You're now fucked," Projecta said as she put him under complete hypnosis. "I now control all of your five senses completely."
"Surely it takes the releasing of a sword or something," Jo doubted.
"Nope," Projecta smiled shaking her head.
"What if I close my eyes?" Jo asked.
"It's the reason why Tasmia is one of us," Mon revealed. "She's not blind but she can still fight with her eyes closed."
"Even if you do close your eyes, I control your other senses anyway," Projecta replied.
"Damn, well, I have the power to take down your hypnosis," Jo told her off.
"Only for me to put you back under a second later and while you're resisting me, you will be vulnerable to other powers," Projecta said obviously.
"I guess I am fucked," Jo realized.
Mon then took a call from Tasmia. "I have Princess Mara and the Color Kid," she reported.
"Good, bring them to the execution site," Mon ordered and hung up. He then turned to Projecta. "It's time to leave." Mon then teleported himself and Projecta to the execution site leaving Jo behind.
At the execution site, Mon, Projecta, and Tasmia met up. "Rainbow kid, step away from Mara," Mon ordered.
"No," Ulu stood his ground.
"That's a queer thing to say. I don't like repeating myself. Step aside," Mon said forcefully.
"This is Ultra Boy. Err...can everyone hear me? Testing...testing. An emergency situation has occurred. Everything I'm about to say is not a lie. Uhm...Kara is dead, Mon has betrayed us all, and the whole execution thing is a ruse. Over and out," Jo said telepathically to every Vindicator and soldier within the base.
"I refuse," Ulu said after hearing the message.
"Very well. I'll kill her even in your arms," Mon said coldly and then powered up to Super Insane 2 to further intimidate him. "I apologize if I accidentally destroy you. Sometimes, it's difficult to control one's strength. It's like stepping on an ant and not killing it."
"Why did you kill Kara?" Ulu demanded.
"I had no choice. She couldn't live without Mara. That's how emotional she can be. Don't you think it was charitable of me to kill her?" Mon asked.
"I get it now. You're the same Insane man I knew from the beginning. I don't know what your intentions are, but I won't give Mara to you even if I die!" Ulu said resolved.
"You're delusional. You think this stunt will matter? You're so deep in the friend zone, kid," Mon scoffed.
"I won't do it. I'll never let her go, bastard," Ulu said to Mon.
"How unfortunate," Mon said as he advanced on them both.
Super Insane Kon suddenly dropped in and tried to slash his father with his sword. Mon blocked Kon's sword with his index finger and then used his knife hand to gut Kon on the spot. Kon dropped to the ground severely wounded. Mon then blasted Ulu off of Mara with a severe torso injury.
"Get up," Mon ordered Mara.
Kon moaned in pain as he struggled to get back up in vain. "How pitiful. The only thing keeping you together is your spine. Don't even try to stand. Just lay there quietly until I'm done here," Mon told him.
Brin suddenly intervened with a swipe at Mon. It simply went right through him. The real Mon then summoned an energy cube around Brin. When the energy cube came down Brin was a bloody mess. He fell to the ground broken.
"Anyway, let's get this over with," Mon said and then punched a hole through Mara's chest. He grabbed her heart, tore it out, and saw it beat for a few moments until it stopped. He then dropped Mara's lifeless body on the ground.
"It's awfully small," Mon mused as he held Mara's heart and then placed it in a pocket. "Tasmia, send the body into the shadows."
Tasmia's shadow extended beyond her body and went straight for the body. Rokk suddenly intervened blocking the shadow and holding Mara's body in his arms. "She will go to death's embrace whole," Rokk said to Mon.
Salu and Tinya appeared around Mon with blades at his throat. The two had made up in more ways than one in the quantum realm. "Don't move a muscle," Salu warned.
"Or we'll take your head," Tinya concluded.
The other Vindicators arrived on the scene. Berta placed a blade at Projecta's throat while three Triplicate Girls had blades to Tasmia's throat. All the Vindicators had stopped fighting each other and were one against Mon.
"Index," Mon said finally and powered down.
Mara's dead body disappeared and Kara's dead body in her office also disappeared. Kara appeared out of thin air as she had been observing the entire scene. Salu and Tinya slowly withdrew from Mon as did Berta and Luornu from Projecta and Tasmia. Jo teleported next to Kara. "Heal all the wounded except Kon," she ordered.
Jo dutifully started to rapidly heal those around him. "What is the status of Nura and Thom?" Kara asked him.
"I got them both," he reported.
"What...the...actual...fuck?" Kon wondered, still very much in pain with life-threatening injuries.
"So, obviously this was kind of a test to see how you would react. There was, of course, no execution. Some of you followed orders to the letter, some of you decided to break your orders due to conscience, and some of you were a mixture of both. There are pros and cons to each approach. The decisions you made during this week will be analyzed for your Officer Review Evaluations as well as how well you fought against each other. I was able to see all the fights either personally or with surveillance drones. Fucking outstanding, you guys," Kara explained.
"Projecta, Tasmia, good job being OPFOR. That was some good shit," Kara applauded. She then went over to Ulu who was being healed by Jo. "Your powers are weak as fuck but God damn. You're definitely boyfriend material. I'm giving you the highest medal for this exercise."
"I am so fucking traumatized right now," Ulu admitted.
"Yeah, welcome to the club," Kara nodded.
Kara then took a knee next to the fallen Kon. "You didn't really think I was going to execute your sister, did you? Or, that your father would kill me, did you?"
"For a moment there...yeah...I kind of did," Kon said resentfully.
"I'm really proud of you, Kon. You're not some Insane soulless monster. You have a heart, empathy, and conscience. You've passed my test," Kara said pleased. "Now, I understand you might be a little emotional and want to lash out. Once you've calmed down, I'll have Jo heal you, okay?"
"I'm good," Kon said with false sincerity. Kara gestured for Jo to heal Kon's injuries. "Where's Mara?" Kon demanded.
"In Metropolis with Barney. She was never here," Kara said. "Tonight, we'll have a family dinner, and you can go ahead and vent all of your anger and frustration to me and to your father, alright? How does that sound?"
"Hate you, hate you both," Kon muttered.
"Look, Kon, you've earned a gold star here today. Don't ruin it by doing something rash," Kara lectured and walked off.
Kon frowned wondering what kind of revenge was appropriate for this. Mon went over to him unimpressed. "If you seek revenge, do it in the Insane way. I'll be waiting," Mon told him.
Midvale
Kon tracked down Mara at the Midvale palace. She was by the ocean staring off into space. "You've been here this whole time?" Kon figured.
"Yes. Of course, I had to lower my power level to nearly nothing for our parents' ruse to work," Mara revealed.
"You know, I got my ass kicked a few times and nearly killed trying to save what I thought was you," Kon said resentfully.
"I know," Mara replied. "Did you have fun?"
Kon softened at that. "When I was training in the quantum realm, I saw my two natures. If it's been a struggle for me, I know it must have been a struggle for you. You just have to find that balance for yourself."
"Like you have?" Mara questioned.
"I don't have the answers. I don't have any answers. I just do things," Kon said.
"You acted bravely on the belief you were saving me from death. I'm flattered," Mara admitted.
"You're flattered? What the fuck?" Kon said under his breath. "Come with me. We can do adventures together in the galaxy far away from parental supervision."
"I've decided to stay here," Mara shot down.
"Well, at least you've decided for yourself," Kon allowed. "That's the reason I went to save you. So, you could decide your own fate. Well, see ya."
"Yeah," Mara nodded.
Kon then took off leaving Mara to her thoughts.
Author's Notes: So, on one hand, this kind of test risked people's lives and created disorder in the ranks. Those simply following orders were looked upon as the "bad guys" and would naturally lead to more division and rebellion within the Vindicator Corps which is what Kara and Mon paradoxically enjoy and encourage for funsies. Kon was objectively abused and traumatized by this so-called test. However, he has shown to act in ways many readers would consider to be evil and insane while having the power to destroy entire worlds and civilizations. In light of this, is it justified to test Kon in this way for the sake of the greater good of the galaxy? Or does a test like this make Kon even worse? As per usual in this 7-Year Gap, the moral guidance of Alex is totally missing and it shows. With Projecta, it's not clear-cut what was real and what was not here. The reader can decide for themselves on that.
