A/N: This story will be a fan reboot of Digimon Adventure 02. It will take place after Digimon Adventure 2020 as a sort of sequel, but it will contain some elements of the original 02, with some plot changes.

The main difference being that all the kids still have their Digimon partners with them in the real world (which means Tailmon never lost her tail ring), they can now get to the digital world using Koushiro's Digital gate project we saw at the end of 2020, and Takeru is able to keep in touch with his friends better due to the better technology and communication methods. There are also more changes but I won't spoil them for plot reasons. ;)

Prologue: The disappearance of Courage

It has been three years since the Digidestined have defeated the threat of Negamon. They lived their lives peacefully with their Digimon, living in secret to all in the public, while being accepted as part of the Digidestineds' families. Ever since that fateful fight, the Digidestined had been travelling to the Digital World frequently through Koushiro's computer, allowing them to spend time with their friends. In the years, Koushiro had learned a lot from Wisemon. One discovery was of how the Digivices were able to transmit energy from the Human to the Digimon.(At least that's what I understand from the first few episoes of 2020 where Greymon appears to become stronger when Taichi's Digivice glows. It would also explain why sometimes the humans got tired even when they weren't doing much. Mainly seen in the Goddramon and Holydramon fight where Takeru and Hikari were clearly seen sweating and looking somewhat tired during the battle.) They spent a lot of time researching on the Crest mystery, but it remained that, a mystery. All they really found out were the name of each crest.

They would regularly meet up in the Digital World on the 1st of August, with no exceptions, to celebrate the defeat of Negamon and the worlds they had saved. However, the meaning of that day soon changed from a happy memorial to the loss of a member of the team.

In the Digital World

Taichi: "Dammit! If only you could evolve, we could wipe the floor with this guy!"

Agumon: "I know, Taichi but for some reason I just can't evolve to Greymon…"

Taichi and Agumon were in the Digital World enjoying their time when they were attacked by an individual who called himself the Digimon Kaiser. It felt odd that the Digimon Kaiser tried to fight them with only Allomon that Greymon could easily take out, but they soon found that Agumon was unable to evolve. Even worse, it seemed the Digivice communication feature was unusable which stopped them from telling Koushiro that they needed a gate.

Digimon Kaiser: "HAHAHA! It's useless! You and your pathetic Digimon won't be able to win against me while I have my dark Digivice." The Digimon Kaiser was on the head of an Allomon laughing maniacally at Taichi and Agumon.

Taichi: "If only we could evolve or contact Koushiro… no it doesn't matter, we won't go down like this right buddy? We'll be there for each other through thick and thin right?"

Agumon: "Yes, I'm with you Taichi, every step of the way!"

Back at Koushiro's office

Koushiro: "Hikari! I need you to get in my office now!" Koushiro was screaming into his phone.

Hikari: "What happened Koushiro?" Hikari questioned, slightly worried that Koushiro had called her randomly in the afternoon and started yelling for her to go to his office.

Koushiro: "It's Taichi… I… I lost his Digivice signal."

Hikari's face paled as she quickly grabbed her own Digivice and started tying her shoes.

Hikari: "Tailmon quickly! We need to get to Koushiro's office!"

Tailmon: "What happened Hikari?"

Tailmon bounded to Hikari with concern etched on her face.

Hikari: "We need to help Onii-chan! His Digivice signal…"

Tailmon merely nodded as the human and cat-like duo started running straight for Koushiro's office.

When they got there, there was a very hasty written note by Koushiro saying he went into the digital world to try and find Taichi.

Hikari was about to enter the digital gate, when Koushiro came out of it with his head hung low.

Hikari: "Kou- Koushiro?"

Koushiro: "I'm sorry Hikari I… I couldn't find him." Koushiro said with a deep remorse.

Hikari fell to the floor with tears in her eyes.

Hikari: "N-No that c-can't be possible… you wouldn't leave m-me. Y-You will always come back no m-matter what… right Onii-chan?"

That's the end of the prologue :D hope you enjoyed it! Sorry that it doesn't really have any action to it i mainly intended for this to be the main reason as to why Taichi would be absent for some of the story. I always felt that a 02 reboot should have Taichi being considered as lost as he would probably be in the digital world a lot which could lead to a lot of mini adventures and dangerous situations for him, such as meeting the Digimon Kaiser before the 02 cast comes in.
