A/N: So for some reason email notifications were not working last week, not sure if they will be working today but whatever. Anyways, I had a few changes to last chapter. Added some lines and stuff, so if you viewed the last chapter about 1-2ish days after it got released, it's probably different now so you may wanna go back and read it. :D

Chapter 30: Spark Rekindling the Fire of Courage

Takeru woke up to a dark room. He looked around and saw that it was clearly not his own. He saw Patamon snuggled up to his side. Takeru pet Patamon before trying to get up. However, he found that his entire body was sore.

"What happened..? Yesterday… right the dark ocean… Hikari… Where is Hikari?"

Takeru immediately tried to get up, hearing a few voices outside.

"Ask Koushiro?"

"Maybe… know who did it…"

Takeru willed his body to sit up and tried to stand up. He slowly moved over to the door and opened it, leaning on it for support. Outside, he saw Hikari and Taichi staring at him with shocked expressions. Plotmon was on the couch watching them.

Hikari: "Takeru! Are you ok?"

Takeru: "Erm… Hi… I'm fine, what about you? Are you ok?"

Hikari: "Am I- you're barely even standing!"

Takeru: "I'm… fine really… just… everything feels sore."

Hikari: "Are you sure you're ok?"

Takeru: "Yeah… what about you?"

Hikari: "I'm fine from yesterday. Thank you for protecting me. I'm sorry you had to go through so much pain for me."

Takeru gave a weak grin.

Takeru: "I'm just glad you're safe. It doesn't matter how much it hurts. As long as you're safe, Hika."

Taichi: "Alright, as much as you two enjoy each other, maybe you could go back to the bed, Takeru? Just wanna make sure you can recover quickly."

Takeru: "Alright."

Hikari moved over to Takeru and helped to bring him back to the bed. Plotmon and Taichi stood by the doorframe.

Hikari: "How are you feeling?"

Takeru: "Fine, just really sore."

Taichi suddenly snapped his fingers.

Taichi: "I got it, why don't you bring Takeru to the hot springs?"

Hikari: "That would be great! Oh, but mom and dad can't bring us there…"

Plotmon: "We don't have to go to one in your world, Hikari."

Takeru: "Oh, right! I forgot about the one in the Digital World."

Taichi: "Well then, I'll leave it to you four. Enjoy your time at the hot springs!"

Hikari: "You're not coming with us?"

Taichi: "Nah, I have to meet with Koushiro. I need to give him the information about yesterday."

"And I need to find out what Koushiro knows about yesterday."

Hikari: "Alright, Onii-Chan. We'll see you later."

Taichi: "Alright. See you soon."

Before leaving, Taichi grabbed a set of familiar white gloves from his drawer and put them on. He subconsciously tried to grab his googles from his neck, but he ended up grabbing air.

"Ah right…"

Taichi went out the door, with Hikari trailing behind him. As Taichi put on his shoes and was about to leave, Hikari grabbed his arm. She took her goggles off and passed them to Taichi.

Hikari: "You were trying to grab this just now."

Taichi: "C'mon, Hikari. They're for you to use when you go to the Digital World."

Hikari: "That's also where you are going, Onii-Chan."

Taichi's eyes widened slightly.

Taichi: "What makes you say that?"

Hikari: "I know you, Onii-Chan. You're going after them, aren't you?"

Taichi was still as HIkari slowly walked towards him and hugged him.

Hikari: "P-Please... be careful, Onii-Chan. I don't... I don't want to lose..."

Taichi wrapped his arms around Hikari.

Taichi: "Don't worry, Hikari. I won't leave you, not again."

Hikari looked up to Taichi and wiped the small tears from her eyes. She placed the goggles in Taichi's hand, smiling. She walked back to Taichi's room where Takeru was waiting.

Taichi took a deep breath and said a quick goodbye to Hikari, Takeru and their partners. Taichi left with Agumon, who acted like a stuffed toy.

Taichi breathed in the morning air and started a quick jog to Koushiro's office.

As he entered, he saw Tentomon carrying empty bottles to a trash bin. Taichi set Agumon down and walked over to Koushiro's desk, seeing him operating on Taichi's Digivice.

Taichi: "Hey."

Koushiro: "Hey."

Taichi: "So, about yesterday…"

Koushiro: "Are Hikari and Takeru… ok?"

Taichi: "Yeah, Takeru is feeling really sore though."

Koushiro: "I see. Also, take this."

Koushiro passed Taichi an earpiece.

Taichi: "An earpiece?"

Koushiro: "Yeah, we've been using it as a form of communication. I made it as a failsafe, just in case… well just in case the Digivices failed and couldn't let us contact each other."

Taichi: "So a failsafe, to ensure no one else suffered the same fate as me."

Koushiro: "I…"

Taichi: "Koushiro, it's fine. You don't have to beat around the bush like that."

Koushiro: "Ahem, anyways, did Hikari or Takeru tell you about yesterday?"

Taichi: "Yeah, Hikari told me everything before I left. You might want to get a drink ready. It's quite a lot to take in."

Taichi began to explain what had happened from Hikari's perspective.

Koushiro: "And this isn't even the full story?"

Taichi: "Yeah… The blanks in Hikari's story need to be filled in by the other Digidestined."

Koushiro: "Well, I went into the Digital World and investigated the spot they were apparently pulled into."

Taichi: "Wait, you went alone?"

Koushiro: "I had Tentomon with me."

Taichi: "No I meant like you went there, knowing that there was a possibility of danger, and you didn't think of asking anyone else to help you?"

Koushiro: "Well… I didn't detect… any dangers around… and well Hikari and Takeru kinda cleared the area, at least that's what the new Digidestined said."

Taichi: "Unbelievable, Koushiro…"

Koushiro: "Well, in my mind it was safe to investigate. Anyways, when I went there, I found something on the floor. It was like a seed."

Taichi: "Oh?"

Koushiro: "It was odd, I found energy signatures similar to… the dark ocean."

Taichi: "Please tell me you didn't pick it up."

Koushiro: "Don't worry. I didn't lay a finger on it, but I think this means that they were sabotaged. The dark ocean attack wasn't coincidental. It was a trap."

Taichi's eye twitched a little, but his face remained neutral.

Taichi: "So, Archnemon and Mummymon set up a trap?"

Koushiro: "Likely, I'm not sure whether BlackWarGreymon was involved or not."

Taichi: "Alright, and is it possible for you to track them down?"

Koushiro: "Not really, however there was an energy spike that happened just before you came over. There's a small possibility that it was them?"

Taichi: "Alright, send me there."

Koushiro: "You sure?"

Taichi: "Yes."

Koushiro: "Alright, here's your Digivice. The modification I made to it should work, although I'm not sure if you can just activate it."

Taichi: "Alright, we shall find out then."

A gate opened in front of them, with Taichi nodding to Agumon. Taichi put on the earpiece and both he and Agumon walked through the gate.

Taichi and Agumon had not expected to be met with their surroundings charred. Taichi put his hand to the earpiece. Taichi nodded to Agumon and Agumon began to evolve.

"Agumon Evolution! Greymon!"

"Greymon Super-Evolution! MetalGreymon!"

MetalGreymon flew up with Taichi on his helmet. They flew up until they could see the full extent of the destruction.

Courage: "Just checking, is this working?"

Knowledge: "It's working. I can hear you loud and clear."

Courage: "The ground around us is charred. It's a large area. I think I see some lines going in a direction."

Knowledge: "It's likely BlackWarGreymon's Gaia Destroyer. The lines… it could be tyre tracks? I remember Miyako saying that Archnemon and Mummymon had a vehicle at some point."

Courage: "Alright, we'll follow them."

Knowledge: "Got it. Be careful."

MetalGreymon began flying in the direction of the small tyre tracks, eventually seeing something black flying in the sky.

Taichi: "That must be BlackWarGreymon."

Metalgreymon: "Taichi, look down."

Taichi looked down and saw Archnemon and Mummymon in their jeep.

Taichi: "Alright then, let's handle Archnemon and Mummymon first, shall we?"

MetalGreymon: "Got it, Taichi."

MetalGreymon raised his non-metallic arm, causing the Alterous to form on his arm.

MetalGreymon readied a blast of energy and fired it down towards the small vehicle. The blast hit just in front of it, causing the vehicle to be sent flying. The passengers quickly flipped out of the vehicle and landed on the ground.

Taichi: "Oof not a direct hit, looks like we really are a little rusty, huh, MetalGreymon?

MetalGreymon: "Sorry."

Taichi: "Nah it's fine. Let's get down there."

BlackWarGreymon stopped flying upon hearing the explosion. He turned around and saw the figure of MetalGreymon. He immediately began to fly over, as Metalgreymon began to desend down towards Archnemon and Mummymon.

Archnemon and Mummymon shook their heads and stood up, trying to figure out what happened. MetalGreymon landed behind them, towering over them.

Archnemon: "You wretched…"

Mummymon: "You… You destroyed my car!"

Taichi glared at the two of them and spat out his words, full of venom.

Taichi: "And you tried to kill my sister, so really, who's the one at fault here?"

Archnemon: "Oh-ho so you know what we did?"

Taichi: "Don't fool around with me. The new Digidestined, including Takeru and Hikari might be a little hesitant to kill, but I don't have that problem."

Archnemon: "Well, aren't you full of energy? Do you really think you can win against us? You may have a WarGreymon of you own, but you haven't fought in years. Can you really keep up with ours?"

BlackWarGreymon touched down on the scene as Archnemon said that. He glared at her and clenched his gauntlet.

BlackWarGreymon: "I've told you already, you don't command me."

Taichi: "You must be BlackWarGreymon. Tell me, were you involved in almost killing my little sister and brother?"

BlackWarGreymon: "Your sister and brother?"

Taichi: "Yeah, they have Tailmon and Patamon, and yesterday they were attacked by the dark ocean."

BlackWarGreymon: "I have never met such Digimon before. What is this dark ocean you speak of?"

Taichi: "So, you aren't involved in this. In that case, you two are the ones I'm after."

BlackWarGreymon: "Who are you? Will you give me more of a challenge than these two pitiful Digimon?"

Mummymon: "Watch your mouth!"

BlackWarGreymon: "You do not command me. Every second you exist is mercy from me. You two disgust me. Making Digimon to do your bidding. It's pitiful, you can't even scratch me. Your army of ultimate Digimon just now didn't even make me break a sweat."

Archnemon: "Y-You!"

Taichi: "Before I answer you, what's your relation to these two?"

BlackWarGreymon: "These two created me from those dark towers. However, I have no intention to serve anyone, especially not such weak and disgusting Digimon. What about you? Will you answer my question now?"

Taichi: "Metalgreymon and I are strong. We came here to beat you and these two."

MetalGreymon: "That's right, we won't lose here."

BlackWarGreymon: "Ho? Such confidence from only an ultimate Digimon. I wish you knew your place. Too many ultimates have been overconfident, thinking they even stand a chance against me."

Taichi: "What do you fight for, BlackWarGreymon?"

BlackWarGreymon: "What do I fight for? I fight for a stronger opponent. I fight to show the weak their place.

Taichi: "That's your reason for fighting, huh?"

MetalGreymon: "In that case, we won't lose to you!"

Taichi: "Right, we won't lose to you when your purpose to fight is so selfish!"

Taichi clenched his Digivice, as Archnemon and Mummymon began to sneak away from the trio.

"MetalGreymon Mega-Evolution! WarGreymon!"

BlackWarGreymon: "Spontaneous Evolution? So, you are related to those kids?"

Taichi: "Of course I am. We are the Digidestined, and I… am the Child of Courage."

BlackWarGreymon: "Then perhaps you will offer more of a challenge than whatever those two have created. The determination from those four were quite impressive."

WarGreymon and BlackWarGreymon rushed towards each other, their gauntlets clashing. The two Digimon slashed at each other with their gauntlets, with neither of them connecting a proper hit. They split apart and took to the sky.

"They are sloppy. Whether they have experience or not does not matter."

WarGreymon and BlackWarGreymon charged to each other again, BlackWarGreymon quickly brought his shield in front of him. WarGreymon's eyes widened, and he quickly tried to bring his right gauntlet in front of him to block the ramming attack.

The force of BlackWarGreymon caused some of WarGreymon's right gauntlet to break off. BlackWarGreymon rammed into Wargreymon, and WarGreymon recoiled from the impact.

BlackWarGreymon immediately brought his shield back and slashed across WarGreymon's chest, breaking through the armor. WarGreymon tried to slash at BlackWarGreymon, but BlackWarGreymon backed off before the gauntlet hit.

They hovered there in the air apart from each other, with WarGreymon catching his breath.

Taichi: "That was quite a bad hit, you ok?"

WarGreymon: "I've… been through worse… this is nothing…"

BlackWarGreymon started to charge towards them. WarGreymon charged forward as well. WarGreymon removed and threw his right gauntlet at BlackWarGreymon. BlackWarGreymon dodged it and tried to slash down on WarGreymon.

However, WarGreymon brought his brave shield above him and blocked BlackWarGreymon's attack. He swung his hand forward with all his might towards BlackWarGreymon's helmet.

WarGreymon's fist connected, causing BlackWarGreymon to recoil back and grab his helmet, which slightly cracked from the impact.

BlackWarGreymon: "Annoying!"

BlackWarGreymon charged forward again with his gauntlets clashing with WarGreymon's gauntlet and brave shield.

WarGreymon pushed the brave shield up and punched BlackWarGreymon again, causing BlackWarGreymon to recoil back. WarGreymon took his opportunity, bringing back the arm holding his gauntlet, and he slashed up, cutting through some of BlackWarGreymon's armor.

WarGreymon and BlackWarGreymon backed away from each other, with BlackWarGreymon trembling in rage.

BlackWarGreymon: "I… I will not be bested by you! Gaia Destroyer!"

Taichi: "Counter it!"

WarGreymon: "Gaia Force!"

The two attacks clashed into each other, lighting up the surroundings in a brilliant flash of light. BlackWarGreymon's rage was increasing by the second, and he channeled it into his attack, causing WarGreymon to be pushed back. Soon, WarGreymon found himself grounded, trying to push back the attack.

BlackWarGreymon: "Die! I refuse to lose! DIE!"

Taichi: "Dammit! WarGreymon, you can do this! I know it's been a long time and we're rusty, but you can do this, WarGreymon!"

WarGreymon struggled to push the attack back. Taichi stood on WarGreymon's shoulder gritting his teeth.

"Is this it..? Did I really make the same mistake again..?"

Taichi could feel the sweat forming on his brow, mainly due to the heat of the two attacks, but also due to the feeling of pressure and fear.

"I promised everyone… I wouldn't make this mistake again… are we… really going to fail here..? Just after they did so much to bring us back…"

Taichi rested his hand on the side of WarGreymon's helmet, panting and looking pale.

"I'm sorry, Hikari… everyone…"

Taichi slumped onto WarGreymon's helmet, his eyes dark and hopeless.

"I thought… I t-thought you were… I'm so glad you're safe…"

"I don't... I don't want to lose..."

Taichi clenched his Digivice and straightened himself.

"No… I can't think like that… not when Hikari is counting on me to come back. I won't cause her anymore pain!"

Taichi's Digivice began to crackle with red sparks of energy.

WarGreymon looked at it from the corner of his eye, seeing Taichi with a wide grin.

Taichi: "Looks like Koushiro managed to do it after all. We just needed a little push. Let's do this WarGreymon!"

WarGreymon: "Right, I'm with you all the way, Taichi!"

WarGreymon was enveloped with a red energy and sparks began to fly from him.

"WarGreymon Slide-Evolution! BlitzGreymon!"

BlitzGreymon turned the Thunder Verniers on his back so that they faced backwards.

BlitzGreymon: "Thunder Vernier!"

Electricity fired from them, causing BlitzGreymon to be propelled forward towards the Gaia Destroyer.

BlitzGreymon: "Elec Guard!"

A shield of electricity formed around BlitzGreymon just before he entered the Gaia destroyer. BlackWarGreymon hovered in the air, not knowing what had happened with Taichi and the previously WarGreymon. He narrowed his eyes as he saw a spark of blue in his attack.

Suddenly, BlitzGreymon burst through the Gaia Destroyer. The Gaia Destroyer burst into a blinding light as the surging electricity caused it to explode. BlackWarGreymon brought his gauntlets in front of his face to shield his eyes. He suddenly felt something pressing against his armor.

BlitzGreymon: "Plasma Stake!"

BlackWarGreymon cried in pain as he felt the electricity travelling through his body. BlitzGreymon spun in the air to gain momentum, allowing him to kick BlackWarGreymon with more force. BlackWarGreymon opened his eyes just as BlitzGreymon was about to kick him. BlackWarGreymon couldn't react and was sent flying diagonally towards the ground.

BlitzGreymon rushed towards the ground and landed behind BlackWarGreymon, who was about to hit the ground.

"BlitzGreymon Slide-Evolution! WarGreymon!"

WarGreymon thrust his left gauntlet forward, impaling BlackWarGreymon. WarGreymon slowly lowered his arm, such that BlackWarGreymon's legs touched the ground. Silence filled the air. Slowly, WarGreymon pulled his gauntlet out of BlackWarGreymon. BlackWarGreymon collapsed onto his knees. WarGreymon walked in front of the kneeling BlackWarGreymon and reverted.

Agumon: "We won."

BlackWarGreymon: "So you have. Do it then, finish me off."

Taichi: "No."

BlackWarGreymon: "What?"

Taichi: "We won't kill you."

BlackWarGreymon: "Why?"

Taichi: "I have no reason to. You can be reasoned with, and you aren't the one who hurt Hikari and Takeru."

BlackWarGreymon: "What? I have lost. I have found the opponent stronger than me. What purpose could I possibly have left?"

Taichi smiled and sat down on a rock beside BlackWarGreymon. Taichi looked to the sky and closed his eyes, smiling.

Taichi: "You know, not everything needs to be for a purpose. Sometimes…"

Taichi turned to BlackWarGreymon and opened his eyes, still smiling.

Taichi: "Just caring about someone or something is good enough."

BlackWarGreymon looked to the ground, before turning to Agumon.

BlackWarGreymon: "And you? What do you think?"

Agumon: "I agree with Taichi! Just protecting Taichi and everyone else is more than enough for me!"

BlackWarGreymon stared at the ground, deep in thought.

Taichi: "You don't have to find it right away. Sometimes it just comes to you. For me, I fight for my friends and especially my sister."

BlackWarGreymon: "And what about your brother?"

Taichi: "My brother? Oh, he isn't actually my brother. I just think of him like that since we are quite close. He is my best friend's brother."

Taichi stood up from the rock and was about to put his hand to the earpiece.

Taichi: "Well, since those two are nowhere to be seen, I'll be leaving. I'll be seeing you around, I guess."

BlackWarGreymon: "Their names…"

Taichi: "Hmm?"

BlackWarGreymon: "Your sister and… brother… their names… you mentioned they were Hikari and Takeru?"

Taichi: "Yep, Hikari and Takeru. You probably shouldn't go looking for them if you want a fight. They're stronger than Agumon and me."

BlackWarGreymon: "I see."

Taichi: "Well, I'll see you around, BlackWarGreymon. Try finding something to fight for, I mean it."

BlackWarGreymon remained silent as Taichi turned on the earpiece and started to talk to Koushiro. Soon, Taichi walked into a gate, with Agumon and him waving at BlackWarGreymon.

BlackWarGreymon sat there silently, deep in thought. He stood up and flew off in a random direction.

Taichi walked out of the gate and saw Koushiro still working at his desk.

Koushiro: "Welcome back. How did it go?"

Taichi: "Archnemon and Mummymon are the ones responsible behind the dark ocean. BlackWarGreymon is not involved with them. I fought BlackWarGreymon, he's alive but I doubt he will try to fight the new group again. Archnemon and Mummymon got away."

As Taichi said his last words, he clenched his fist and slammed it on the table.

Taichi: "Dammit! How could I let those two get away!"

Koushiro: "Taichi, relax. Hikari and Takeru are safe now. We will have plenty of opportunities to handle those two."

Taichi: "I know… it's just… I hate it. I hate what they've done to Hikari."

Agumon: "Taichi…"

Agumon hugged Taichi's leg, causing Taichi to pick him up and give Agumon a proper hug.

Koushiro: "I know, but based on what Hikari has told you, I don't think another dark ocean attack will be that bad."

Taichi: "Yeah… as long as we are with Hikari and Takeru when it happens. By the way, your modifications worked."

Koushiro: "Oh, that's good to hear. I wasn't sure if it would work that well, considering I was kinda just putting a lot of that weird electricity into your Digivice. It's good to know that it turned out well."

Taichi: "Yeah, well I'm off."

Koushiro: "Alright, see you around."

Taichi walked out of Koushiro's office, sighing before walking back home.
