Chapter 13: Hostage Crisis
Danger looms!
Despite recent victories in the Outer Rim, criminal minds plot at the very heart of the Republic!
The bounty hunter Cad Bane has assembled some of the deadliest criminals in the galaxy and plans a daring attack to seize members of the Senate.
What can be the aim of this despicable act?
Cad Bane and his crew of bounty hunters, along with a few droid enforcers, arrived at the Senate landing zone, where they meet a host of Senate Commandos.
"Here we go."Cad Bane declared.
The assassin droid's enforcers hid behind the hovercar.
"Attention, attention."A man's voice informed."This is a restricted area. No landing is permitted without permission. Violators will be prosecuted to the full extend of the law."
Cad Bane went off the hovercar as the Senate Commandos aimed their blasters at him.
"Put up your hands."the Senate Commando ordered.
"I've got business with the Senate."Cad Bane declared. "How about you fall a step aside?"
"On your knees."the Senate Commando ordered."Raise your hands, slowly."
"Son."Cad Bane replied. "I wouldn't be so hasty if I were you."
"Cuff him."the Senate Commando ordered.
However, three Senate Commandos were then sniped by Aurra Sing from a long range and the rest of the bounty hunters overwhelm the members of the Squad.
"Where's that coming from?!"A Senate Commando demanded.
"I see the shooter up in the tower."the second Senate Commando replied. "Over there."
The bounty hunters took down the the Senate Commandos.
"You two, get these uniforms on and get this platform clear."Cad Bane ordered.
One of the droids answered a Senate Commando's comlink in a disguised voice.
"Base to platform, what was all that?"A Senate Commando asked. "Report."
"Protesters against the war, we've taken care of them."the droid responded.
Aurra and the rest of the bounty hunters then met the group on the landing platform.
"Finish getting those uniforms on and clear this platform now."Cad Bane ordered and glanced at the other bounty hunters. "Everybody else, follow me."
In Senator Amidala's Office...
Ferus was sitting on the couch in the office playing a dejarik holographic game by himself.
Anakin sat on the seat that was next to Padme, who was typing on her desk.
"Hey, I'm supposed to be on a meditative retreat."Anakin suggested as he stood up and moved to Padme's desk. "We should go away together, I know a place far from here where no one would recognise us. Yeah, it would be like we're actually husband and wife, instead of Senator and Jedi."
Ferus rolled his eyes at his brother-in-law's response.
Padme didn't respond to her husband's plan while she continued typing on her desk.
"I-I can't, Annie."Padme answered.
"What do you mean you can't?"Anakin asked. "It's only two weeks. We'll be back before anyone even notices we're gone."
"I have to bring this bill before the Senate."Padme admitted. "It's important."
"More important than the way you feel about me?"Anakin questioned with a smirk.
"Not more important, but important."Padme responded.
Anakin frowned causing Ferus to chuckle at his older sister's reply.
"The work I do, the work we both do, is in service to the Republic."Padme explained. "To protect those who would otherwise be powerless to protect themselves."
Ferus peeked from the couch.
"Well said, Pad."Ferus remarked.
"Of course, but those are ideals."Anakin commented. "Isn't our love more important to you?"
"But I-"Padme started.
"No, no, but."Anakin replied. "To me there's nothing more important than the way I feel about you, nothing."
"Anakin, don't be so-"Padme said.
"You don't believe me."Anakin assumed.
"I didn't say-"Padme continued.
"I'll prove it."Anakin answered as he took out his lightsaber. "Just watch. When I finished constructing my lightsaber, Obi-Wan said to me 'Anakin, this weapon is your life'. His weapon is my life."
"No, Anakin, I can't."Padme protested. "A Jedi lightsaber is..."
Anakin handed the lightsaber in Padme's hand.
"Wow."Padme remarked."It's heavy than I thought."
"It's yours."Anakin sneered. "Believe me now?"
"If all you want to do is make fun of me."Padme said. "I think you should just go."
"That's not what I want."Anakin responded while stroking her cheek. "Not at all."
Ferus gagged as he stood up from where he sat and put off the dejarik holographic game he was playing.
"Oh boy."Ferus muttered as he rolled his eyes with a frown. "If you guys need me, just give me a call."
Anakin smirked at Ferus.
"Let me guess, your going to see a certain raven haired girl?"Anakin asked with a smirk.
"Nope."Ferus said simply."Just need a break from seeing your charade."
Padme lightly giggled as Anakin simply rolled his eyes.
Ferus then walked out of the office before Anakin and Padme kissed as she gently put the lightsaber on her desk.
In Another Level of the Senate...
Nadia was walking around the hallway in the Senate Building to look for Senator Amidala's Office.
"Who would've thought the Senate Building would be this big."Nadia muttered with a hint of annoyance. "At least the Corellian Trade Spine back home was..."
The raven haired girl's respond was cut off, when she heard foot steps approaching as well as a disturbance in the Force.
Nadia quickly wrapped her Jedi cloak around her as she went against the wall to sink in with the shadows.
There the raven haired girl saw Cad Bane and his crew take out the rest of the Senate Commandos and then go down to the control panel room and subdue the droids there.
From her hiding place, Nadia watched them in silent shock.
"You know what to do."Cad Bane commented.
"I'll figure it out."Robonino assured.
"You better not fail me, bubble brain."Cad Bane warned coldly.
"Don't worry, I'll have the power out in no time."Robonino remarked.
Cad Bane glanced at the rest of the bounty hunters.
"The rest of you come with me."Cad Bane ordered.
Cad Bane and the rest of his crew left, leaving Robonino to get the power down.
As they left, the bounty hunters didn't know a pair of ruby red eyes were watching them.
"Bounty hunters."Nadia thought bitterly."This is bad."
Back in Senator Amidala's Office...
Anakin and Padme were kissing passionately, but stopped when they heard Threepio trying to stop Senator Organa from coming into the office.
"But Senator Organa, it just wouldn't be-"Threepio started.
"The situation cannot be delayed."Bail commented. "Now stand aside."
Padme looked at Anakin.
"Quick, hide!"Padme panicked quietly.
Anakin quickly hid behind the desk as Padme took his lightsaber and hid it behind her.
Then Threepio and Senator Organa came in.
"I apologise for my abruptness."Bail declared.
"Oh, Senator Organa, how good to see you."Padme remarked. "What is it?"
"Senator Philo has called a meeting in the lobby before we vote on the Enhanced Privacy Invasion Bill."Bail exclaimed.
"Right, Privacy Invasion Bill."Padme responded.
"We must hurry if we are to stop the vote."Bail responded. "Coming, Senator Amidala?"
"Of course."Padme responded.
Padme followed Bail and Threepio, secretly holding Anakin's lightsaber behind her.
Meanwhile...
"Quietly Guard change happens now."Cad Bane declared. "Here we go."
Cad Bane took out the rest of the Senate Commandos with a detonator.
"Now let's go talk to some Senators."Cad declared.
Then Cad Bane and his crew headed for the lobby.
In the Lobby...
The Senators of the Senate were talking with each other.
"We can not allow the Chancellor to move this Enhanced Privacy Invasion Bill forward."Bail commented.
"We are all in agreement then."
Padme, Bail and the other Senators became shocked to see Cad Bane arrive in the lobby with his crew.
"Morning, Senators."Cad Bane greeted."You should all consider yourselves to be in my power as long as everybody behaves this will be quick and painless. Do nothing and it will al be over soon."
Once all the Senators were gathered, the bounty hunters surrounded and took them hostage.
"I don't know who you think you are, but I for one have no intention of listening to this kind of insolence."Senator Philo retorted.
Senator Philo attempted to leave, only to be shot by Cad Bane in the back.
The other Senators gasped in horror.
"All right then."Cad Bane sneered."If you all gather at the centre of this lovely atrium my co-workers and I will relieve you of any communication devices."
Padme looked at Bail.
"I see five of them here in the room."Padme said. "If we-"
"What are you going to do?"Bail asked. "It's not like we carry weapons."
Inside Chancellor Palpatine's Office...
"Chancellor Palpatine."Senator Taa spoke up.
"What is it, Senator Orn Free Taa?"Chancellor Palpatine asked.
"I think you should see this."Senator Taa declared.
Senator Taa then showed a hologram of Cad Bane.
"Sorry to bother you, Chancellor. But I've taken control of the east wing of your Senate building."Cad Bane admitted."The occupants are now my hostages. If you care about them, I'd advise you to free Ziro the Hutt from the detention centre."
Chancellor Palpatine gave Cad Bane a glare.
"You should know that the Republic does not take kindly to such threats."Chancellor Palpatine retorted. "If you have attempted such a fool-hardy action as to kidnap a Senator, I assure you it will be met with appropriate force."
Then all the doors were locked down in the entire building, severing all communication with the outside.
Meanwhile...
Anakin and Ferus were walking together in the hallway, but then the lights around them went off.
"What's going on?"Anakin asked.
"No idea."Ferus replied.
"Master Skywalker!"Nadia's voice called out."Ferus!"
Anakin and Ferus notice Nadia coming towards them.
"Nadia?"Anakin said in confusion."What are you doing here?"
"I was going to ask you the same thing."Nadia commented."But that doesn't matter. Bounty hunters have invaded the building and have taken all the Senators as hostages."
Shocked looks grew on Anakin and Ferus' faces on Nadia's sentence.
"What?"Ferus questioned in shock.
Back in Chancellor Palpatine's Office...
"I'm in control."Cad Bane stated sharply. "I make the rules now."
Chancellor Palpatine tried to open the door, but it was locked.
"Senator Taa, help me with this door."Chancellor Palpatine instructed.
Senator Taa went to try to help Chancellor Palpatine open the door.
However, the door still didn't open.
"It's no use, sir."Senator Taa declared."Someone's gotten into the central control panel. They've triggered the security system. The Senate buildings have sealed themselves."
Palpatine tried to contact someone.
"This is Chancellor Palpatine, there is an emergency at the Senate Building."Chancellor Palpatine reported."Jedi Council, come in. Is anyone there?"
"That's no use either, sir."Senator Taa declared. "They've cut off all communication with the outside."
Back in the Lobby...
"Hand over your communication devices please."Cad Bane ordered.
Cad Bane took every person's comlinks.
Padme quietly spoke to Bail while holding Anakin's lightsaber in her sleeve.
"I can't let them search me."Padme declared.
"What?"Bail asked in confusion."Why not?"
"I have something they must not find."Padme whispered.
"What is it?"Bail asked.
Cad Bane arrived to where Padme and Bail were.
"Well, hello there, little lady."Cad Bane sneered while holding Padme's chin. "And who might you be?"
"I am Padme Amidala."Padme answered with a glare."Senator from Naboo and I demand that you release us immediately. The Galactic Senate will not treat lightly with terrorists."
Anakin, Ferus and Nadia were in the upper levels and watching the scene.
"Ain't you awful young and pretty to be a Senator?"Cad Bane asked.
Padme spotted Anakin with Ferus and Nadia.
Cad Bane notice this and shot at the three Jedi, but they ran off.
"After them!"Cad Bane ordered.
The IG-86 sentinel droid and Shahan Alama went after the three Jedi.
"Hello, come in."Anakin said in his comlink. "Anyone there?"
"Bad news."Nadia retorted."Those scumbags jammed our connection."
Nadia quickly activated her lightsaber to block the sentinel droid and reflect Shahan's blasts as they ran off in the hallways with Anakin.
"This is General Skywalker."Anakin declared."Chancellor Palpatine, can you hear me?"
"My dear boy, I'm glad to know you're there and all right."Chancellor Palpatine responded.
"What is going on down there?"Anakin asked.
"They've sealed the entire building."Chancellor Palpatine declared."Nobody can get in and we can not get out. It's up to you. You have to get to the power control room and turn off the security seal."
Anakin quickly put off the communicator as Shahan and the Sentinel Droid showed up.
The two terrorists looked around and couldn't see the three Jedi.
Ferus carefully reached out his hand and used a mind trick on Shahan.
"You have two more floors to check."Ferus instructed.
Shahan looked at the Sentinel Droid.
"Come on."Shahan instructed. "We've got two more floors to check."
The two bounty hunters then left the room as Anakin and Nadia glanced at Ferus.
"Nice move."Anakin whispered smugly.
"That was the right time to use that mind trick."Nadia complemented.
A shy smile crept on Ferus' face.
"I've been practicing."Ferus answered.
"You take downstairs, I'll go up."Shahan ordered. "We'll meet on the other side."
Anakin and the two Padawans followed the IG-86 Sentinel Droid.
Ferus and Anakin managed to bash the Sentinel Droid into submission before Nadia used her lightsaber to cut off its head.
The three Jedi then took off before Shahan came back down to check and found the Sentinel Droid's mangled remains.
"Just one lightsaber cut."Shahan said with a smirk."Interesting."
Shahan returned back into the lobby, where Cad Bane and Aurra were.
"What happened?"Cad Bane asked. "Where's the droid?"
"The droid's gone, but there's good news."Shahan declared. "Two of the Jedi are unarmed. Only the second brat has her weapon."
"What?"Cad Bane questioned.
"It doesn't look like two have their lightsaber."Cad Bane commented and looked at Aurra."Go, bring them back to me."
Aurra followed Shahan out of the lobby as Bail looked at Padme.
"The lightsaber, I've got it."Padme whispered.
"What?"Bail asked quietly. "Why do you have a Jedi's lightsaber?"
"The question is whether we should try and get it back to Ana-the Jedi Knight."Padme suggested."Or use it ourselves."
Cad fired his blaster on the roof causing all the Senators to be quiet.
"Everybody quiet!"Cad Bane snapped. "I've got a call to make."
Inside Chancellor Palpatine's Office...
Cad Bane contacted Chancellor Palpatine and Senator Taa.
"So here's what you're going to do."Cad Bane instructed."First you're going to make a pardon disc. You can give it to Senator Taa."
"Hmm, me?"Senator Taa asked.
"My ship will come and pick him up and take him to the prison."Cad Bane explained."Once Ziro has been released and is handed to me, then your associates will be released, understand?"
"Oh, I do."Chancellor Palpatine answered with a frown."But I feel it is my duty to warn you that you will end up paying for this outrage."
"I can live with that."Cad Bane declared.
Meanwhile...
Anakin and Ferus managed to locate the power core, but a panicked Robonino shut the door behind them.
Nadia went another way to find help as part of their plan.
"Come on."Anakin insisted."Open the door."
"We won't hurt you."Ferus assured.
Shahan pointed his blaster at the two brother-in-laws.
"Well, well, what have we here?"Shahan asked.
Anakin then used the Force to take Shahan's blaster.
Aurra then showed up and started blasting Anakin and Ferus causing them to dodge her attacks.
Ferus noticed his lightsaber was not on his belt.
"Blast it!"Ferus snarled.
Then the Robonino shocked Anakin and Ferus into unconsciousness.
"Tie your little pets up."Aurra ordered."We'll bring them to Bane."
Above the Senate Building…
Nadia was crawling through the ventilation shafts within the Senate Building to make it out and contact Commander Fox.
Inside Chancellor Palpatine's Office...
"Here's the pardon disc."Chancellor Palpatine exclaimed.
Chancellor Palpatine handed the disc to Senator Taa.
Then the HELIOS-3D droid showed up to take the Senator.
"Let's go."Chancellor Palpatine instructed.
"Why do I have to go to the jail for this?"Senator Taa asked.
"Move it."the HELIOS-3D droid demanded.
Senator Taa then followed the HELIOS-3D droid before the droid glanced at Chancellor Palpatine.
"Sorry, Senator."the HELIOS-3D droid snarled. "But everyone has a job to do."
Back in the Lobby...
An unconscious Anakin and Ferus were handcuffed while being dragged into the lobby by Aurra and Shahan.
Padme looked at her secret husband and little brother in sadness.
"Young Skywalker and Padawan Olin."Cad Bane sneered."Not so impressive without your lightsabers, are you, Jedi? Toss them in with the others."
When Anakin and Ferus were thrown where the Senators were.
Shahan and Aurra walked away as Padme went to Anakin while Riyo went to check on Ferus.
Cad Bane contacted the HELIOS-3D droid.
Meanwhile...
The HELIOS-3D droid and Senator Taa arrived to the prison building where all criminals against the Republic were kept in the hovercare.
"Arriving at the prison now."the HELIOS-3D droid reported.
"Unlock the doors."A Clone Trooper ordered.
The doors opened and Ziro the Hutt came out from the prison building.
"Oh, it's so bright out here!"Ziro complained."Why couldn't they do this at night when it's cooler?"
Back in the Lobby...
"Go and get the parting gifts."Cad Bane ordered.
The bounty hunters started to plant bombs that will go off if their laser detectors are triggered.
Back outside the Prison Building...
Senator Taa held his hands up as the HELIOS-3D droid aimed his blaster behind his back.
"Oh. Look at Senator Orn Free Taa. He looks so unhappy."Ziro mocked. "Now get me as far away from Coruscant as possible, now!"
The HELIOS-3D droid pushed Senator Taa away to where the Clone Troopers were before he followed Ziro back in the hovercar.
Back in the office...
Cad Bane was talking to Chancellor Palpatine.
"Well, Chancellor Palpatine, thanks to your calm leadership, the crisis has passed."Cad Bane declared."I got what I want, so I'll return your Senate and Senators, enjoy them but don't try anything until the sun has set, understand?"
Meanwhile...
The HELIOS-3D droid told Ziro where they were heading to.
"We are to rendezvous back at the Senate building."the HELIOS-3D droid declared.
"What?! No, no, no, no!"Ziro said angrily. "The Outer Rim, not the Senate, you stupid machine! I don't want to go to the Senate!"
Then hovercar flew off to head to the Senate Building.
Back in the Lobby...
"We need to get to the landing platform."Cad Bane declared. "Is everything ready?"
"Yep, yep."Robonino replied with a nod.
"Turn on the field."Cad Bane ordered.
The bounty hunters put on their devices to activate the red laser field to prevent the Senators from moving where they were.
"If you so much as breath on one of these lasers, the whole room will blow up."Cad Bane declared and glanced at the hostages."Senators, Jedi, I bid you all the most respectful farewell. Let's go."
Padme bent down to check on Anakin and Riyo checked on Ferus as the bounty hunters walked away from them.
Meanwhile...
The Republic Small Ships showed up to the Senate Building.
Then Nadia and a group of Clone Troopers crashed into Chancellor Palpatine's Office and went inside the room.
"All clear, ma'am."A Clone Trooper declared.
Nadia went to check on Chancellor Palpatine.
"Chancellor, are you all right?"Nadia questioned."Sorry about the mess."
"Yes, yes, I'm fine, my dear."Chancellor Palpatine responded."What about Anakin and Commander Olin?"
"They're with the Senators."Nadia replied."But I've got no contact from them."
A Clone Trooper contacted Senator Taa.
"Mission accomplished, sir."A Clone Trooper admitted. "The Chancellor is safe."
"Well done, trooper."Senator Taa praised.
Outside the Senate Building...
The Clone troopers surrounded the bounty hunters as Cad Bane received a contact from Chancellor Palpatine.
Nadia and two of the Clone Troopers were with Chancellor Palaptine.
"You were foolish to think you could get away with this, bounty hunter."Chancellor Palpatine informed."Now lay down your arms and come quietly."
"No, Chancellor."Cad Bane answered bluntly. "I am afraid it is you who have been foolish with your Senators' lives, one false move and the east wing of the Senate Building goes up in smoke."
Back in the Lobby...
Padme stroked Anakin's cheek as she watched him and Ferus with worry.
"Please, Ani, little brother, wake up."Padme begged.
Inside the Senate Building…
"You win, bounty hunter."Chancellor Palpatine declared coldly.
Cad Bane puts off the hologram and glared at the Clone Troopers.
"Holster!"Cad Bane snapped.
Commander Fox glanced at his group.
"Stand down."Commander Fox ordered.
The bounty hunters slowly began to walk away when the Clone Troopers lowered down their guns.
Back in the Lobby...
Anakin slowly opened his eyes and notice Padme looking down at him.
"What are you looking so sad about?"Anakin asked smugly.
Padme smiled in relief.
Riyo smiled when she saw Ferus opening his eyes.
"Riyo?"Ferus asked.
"Shh, it's okay."Riyo whispered.
"Thanks."Ferus responded with a smile.
Padme helped Anakin up while Riyo helped Ferus.
"The bounty hunter said we should just sit here."Senator Farr informed."I think we should just sit here."
"Well, that's not a very good idea."Anakin commented.
"We're going to have to act now."Ferus insisted.
Outside the Senate Building...
HELIOS-3D droid arrived in the hovercar with Ziro sitting behind the extra seat attached to it.
"Come on."Cad Bane ordered. "Let's get going."
The bounty hunters went on the hovercar and flew off from the Senate Building.
Back in the Lobby...
"Too bad I don't have my lightsaber."Anakin commented.
"Neither do I."Ferus muttered.
"You mean this?"Padme asked while showing Anakin's lightsaber. "I found it where you dropped it."
Padme activated the lightsaber to break off Anakin's handcuffs.
Riyo looked at Ferus.
"And I believe this belongs to you, Ferus."Riyo suggested."You've dropped it when you were going to your sister's office.
Riyo took out an object revealing it to be Ferus's lightsaber.
"Thanks, Riyo."Ferus said in gratitude."My Master would've lost her temper if she learned I lost it and was still alive."
Riyo smiled at Ferus before activating his lightsaber and destroying his handcuffs before giving him back his weapon.
Anakin and Ferus looked at the other Senators.
"Now, quickly."Anakin declared."We don't have much time."
Anakin and Ferus used their lightsabers to cut a large hole in the ground to make an entrance for them and the Senators to escape the bombs.
The group dropped down the next level as the bombs exploded.
Padme and Anakin smiled at each other.
"Another daring rescue, Master Jedi."Padme remarked.
"I do my best, Senator."Anakin said with a smile.
"All we have to do is now is get out of here."Ferus admitted.
"Well said, young Jedi."Riyo joked.
Ferus gives Riyo a smirk.
Outside...
Ziro praised Cad Bane for rescuing him as a bunch of smoke erupt from the damaged part of the Senate Building.
"Congratulations on a job well done, bounty hunter."Ziro praised evilly.
"Time to pay up, Hutt."Cad retorted sharply."I don't work for free."
The bounty hunters flew off in their hovercar as they went away from Coruscant.
