Chapter 14: Children of the Force
A thief hunted!
In a daring assault, Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka, boarded the warship of cunning bounty hunter Cad Bane to recover a stolen Holocron containing a list of the galaxy's force-sensitive children and future Jedi knights.
After a desperate chase and duel with the villain, Anakin and his troops defeated Bane, but were forced to evacuate his doomed vessel without the Holocron.
Anakin and Ahsoka returned to the Resolute after their failed mission to get the Holocron.
"So what now?"Ahsoka asked.
"We get the injured to the medical bay."Anakin said.
"General!"Rex's voice called out."There's something I think you should see."
Ahsoka notice one of the Clone Troopers walking away with an injury.
"Trooper, are you all right?"Ahsoka questioned.
The Clone Trooper didn't reply and continued walking away.
"Must've been hit in the head."Ahsoka suggested.
Anakin went to investigate the green blood that Rex and the other Clone Troopers found.
"It's blood, sir."Rex responded. "And it sure isn't from any of our men."
Anakin looked at the green blood carefully before a realisation hit him.
Ahsoka continued following the Clone Trooper that was injured.
"Wait!"Ahsoka protested. "You're injured. That might be serious."
Ahsoka then looked at the Clone Trooper's arm.
"You're no clone."Ahsoka said.
"Ahsoka!"Anakin shouted.
Ahsoka got kneed in the chest by Cad Bane disguised, who was the injured Clone Trooper and runs to another ship to make his escape.
Anakin attempted to stop the bounty hunter by jumping onto the ship, but Cad Bane swerved the ship into the vacuum of space and he was forced to jump off.
"Admiral, lock down the hyperspace rings!"Anakin demanded in his comlink. "Hurry!"
"What could possibly have happened since I last spoke with you?"Admiral Yularen retorted.
"It's Bane!"Anakin declared."Lock those rings now!"
The hyperspace rings of the Star Destroyer began to close.
However, Cad Bane escaped into hyperspace on his ship.
"We'll have to inform the Council."Anakin retorted.
Afterwards in the Jedi Temple...
Anakin and Ahsoka along with Nadia informed the Jedi Council of Cad Bane's escape.
"It is most unfortunate Bane was allowed to escape again."Obi-Wan stated.
"With access to the names and locations of the most Force-sensitive children in the Republic."Mace Windu admitted.
"Inflict devastating damage on the Jedi Order he could."Master Yoda stated.
"We've discovered Bane's working with the Separatists."
"There are thousands of children on that list."Obi-Wan declared.
"Thousands, Master?"Nadia said with a hint of shock."Which will he go after first?"
"Small chance there is."Master Yoda replied."Through the force, the Council may detect them."
Elsewhere...
Cad Bane was talking to Darth Sidious.
"I have delivered what you wanted."Cad Bane admitted."The Jedi were no problem, anything else I can help you with?"
"I need test subjects."Darth Sidious reminded."Choose four children and bring them to Mustafar. I will take care of them."
"Kidnapping innocent children?"Cad Bane asked."Seems like a small-time crime for the likes of you."
"Among the children of the Jedi, there are no innocents."Darth Sidious stated.
"Sure, sure."Cad Bane said."As long as I get paid, it makes no difference to me."
Back in the Jedi Temple...
Master Yoda, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu and Anakin meditate, trying to detect any children through the Force, as many are being overshadowed by the dark side.
"A jungle world."Master Yoda commented."Dome cities I see, Rodia it is."
"A house in Kay Tap Square."Obi-Wan responded."I see it too."
"There's an ocean planet, home to Nautolans."Mace Windu admitted."Glee Anselm?"
"Glee Anselm, I see not."Master Yoda replied.
"I sense a place I've been to before."Anakin declared."Waterfalls, Naboo."
"Jan-Gwa."Master Yoda said. "A village. Southern sector. Sense it strongly, I do."
Anakin opened his eyes.
"The Gungan child was screaming."Anakin stated.
"The future you see, young Skywalker."Master Yoda responded."To Naboo you must go. Cad Bane you will find with you. Take your Padawan."
"You are certain there is no child on Glee Anselm?"Mace Windu asked.
"Into the shadow of the Dark Side taken the child was."Master Yoda informed."Shrouded is his fate from us, great the loss is, but more children in danger there are."
"Me and Nadia shall leave for Rodia immediately."Obi-Wan admitted.
"Find more younglings, we will."Master Yoda commented.
On Rodia...
Cad Bane posed as a Jedi, claiming that he was to take the child Wee Dunn to Coruscant.
Mrs Dunn held Wee in her arms.
"Your son is strong with the Force."Cad Bane exclaimed."He will make a fine Jedi."
"Master Ropal said the day would come for him to go to the Temple, but not for some time."Mrs Dunn admitted..
"Master Ropal was unaware of the danger your son is in."Cad Bane replied. "Jedi impostors have been roaming the galaxy, stealing the future younglings. For your son's protection, I'm going to have to take him now."
"He is my only child."Mrs Dunn commented.
"Look into this."Cad Bane instructed.
Cad Bane took out a device and showing it to Mrs Dunn.
"It will relax you."Cad Bane admitted.
In Space...
Obi-Wan and Nadia arrived to Rodia.
"Let's hope we have arrived in time."Obi-Wan suggested.
Nadia nodded in agreement.
"I hope the same thing, Master."Nadia replied.
In Rodia…
Obi-Wan and Nadia landed their ships and headed to the house where Mrs Dunn lived.
"If you're looking for my son, Jedi, he's not here."Mrs Dunn answered.
"Where is he?"Obi-Wan asked.
Mrs Dunn closed the door to her house to prevent Obi-Wan and Nadia from coming inside.
"Open the door."Obi-Wan ordered.
Nadia used the Force to open the door to make her and her Master go inside.
Mrs Dunn pointed a blaster at Obi-Wan and Nadia.
"You'll never get him!"Mrs Dunn declared.
Obi-Wan used his mind trick on Mrs Dunn.
"Where is the bounty hunter?"Obi-Wan asked.
"Bounty hunter?"Mrs Dunn asked."He was a Jedi."
"Jedi do not carry blasters, ma'am."Nadia answered.
Nadia used the Force to take the blaster from Mrs Dunn's hands.
"What have I done?"Mrs Dunn cried.
Nadia and Obi-Wan heard an infant's cry and saw Cad Bane holding Wee.
Cad used his rocket boots to get to his ship.
Obi-Wan and Nadia took out their grappling hooks to go up the building where Bane's ship was.
There the duo saw Cad Bane flying away with Wee out of Rodia.
Nadia had an annoyed glare on her face while Obi-Wan covered his eyes in stress over their failure to save Wee from the dangerous bounty hunter.
In Naboo...
Anakin and Ahsoka arrived to the Theed Hangar, where they got greeted by Ferus, Captain Typho and Captain Lunker.
"Anakin, Ferus told us you and Ahsoka were coming."Captain Typho said.
"Has the Gungan family been notified?"Anakin asked.
"Captain Lunker here is in charge of the operation."Ferus explained.
"We will take you to Jan-Gwa City."Captain Typho stated.
Ahsoka looked at Anakin.
"Let me take the lead, Master."Ahsoka admitted."I've got a score to settle."
"Alright. Go with the Gungan and Ferus."Anakin ordered. "I'll be there shortly to settle my score with him later."
Ferus nodded. "Right."
Ahsoka, Ferus and Captain Lunker then walked away to head to the Gungan City.
Later that Night...
Cad Bane arrived and sneaked onto the Gungan City.
He then sneaked into the Gungan child's room, only to find Ferus and Ahsoka waiting for him.
The two teenagers had their lightsabers out.
"Don't move, sleemo."Ferus growled.
"You two weren't the children we were expecting to find."Cad Bane stated.
"Obviously."Ahsoka said coldly.
"You're both quite clever, but naive."Cad Bane retorted.
Cad Bane started blasting at Ahsoka and Nadia.
Ferus and Ahsoka quickly went for cover as Cad Bane made his escape, only to be caught by Anakin.
"Looks like we win."Ferus said with a smirk.
"I think I've earned the right to wear this again."Ahsoka admitted.
Ahsoka took her Padawan braid from Bane and placed it on her head.
Ferus and Ahsoka smiled when they saw the Gungan mother and her child named Roo-Roo Page giggling at them.
"Your daughter is safe now."Ahsoka remarked.
"Do you really believe that?"Cad Bane threatened.
Cad Bane was then taken away by Anakin.
Anakin and Ferus glared at Cad Bane while Roo-Roo was tightly embraced by her mother.
Afterwards in the Resolute...
Obi-Wan and Mace Windu interrogated Cad Bane in his prison cell.
"We know you've taken at least two children."Obi-Wan declared."Where are they and the Holocron?"
"Beyond your reach."Cad Bane replied coldly.
"Who are you working for?"Mace Windu asked.
"I work alone."Cad Bane lied.
"It is only a matter of time before we locate the holocron and the children."Obi-Wan admitted."Make it easier on yourself."
"What are you going to do, Jedi, torture me?"Cad Bane questioned.
"I think the fear of whoever you work for outweighs your fear of us."Mace Windu commented.
"This conversation is over."Cad Bane retorted.
Obi-Wan and Mace Windu went out of the prison cell to meet up with Anakin, Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia.
"We tore the ship apart."Anakin stated. "There's no sign of the holocron or the kids."
"Did you check the ship's navigation records?"Mace Windu asked.
"They were wiped clean before he landed on Naboo."Ferus replied.
"We'll have to use the Force to make him talk."Anakin suggested.
"I don't think Bane is that weak."Obi-Wan admitted.
"Maybe if we all concentrated on his mind together."Nadia suggested.
"Using the Force to compel a strong mind to cooperate is risky."Obi-Wan warned.
"There is a danger that his mind could be destroyed in the process."Mace Windu warned.
"Do we have another choice?"Anakin scoffed.
Obi-Wan, Anakin and Mace Windu then tried simultaneously to force Cad Bane to divulge the location of the kids and the Holocron, with the risk of destroying his mind.
The experience was hard on Cane Bane and he soon cooperated.
"Perhaps we should try again."Anakin threatened.
"I've had enough of that."Cad Bane scowled."I'll take you to the Holocron, you'll get your children back."
With Bane as their guide, the Jedi prepare to go find the children and the Holocron.
"The Chancellor wants a report on our progress."Mace Windu reminded.
"Tell him this is not Republic business."Obi-Wan said. "It's an internal Jedi affair."
"I'm sorry to disagree, but as long as the Jedi are acting as a military, we should report to the Chancellor."Anakin insisted."Even on internal matters such as this."
"Well, then, I guess you just volunteered to go."Obi-Wan said with a smile."Give the Chancellor our regards."
Obi-Wan then walked away followed by Ferus.
"Wait a minute."Anakin protested.
"I agree."Mace Windu responded."Report back here when you are finished."
Mace Windu then followed Obi-Wan.
"This could be a trap, Master."Anakin warned. "You sure you don't need us to go?"
"Of course it's a trap, Anakin."Mace Windu replied.
"We will contact you when we find the children and the holocron."Obi-Wan assured.
Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Ferus and their Clone Troopers group walked away.
"Be careful out there."Nadia warned.
"What if they don't find the Holocron or those kids?"Ahsoka asked.
"They will, Snips and Kitty."Anakin replied. "Come on."
Anakin, Ahsoka, Nadia and Artoo went away to go complete their mission.
On a Ship...
Mace Windu, Obi-Wan and Ferus were beginning to leave with Cad Bane.
"The coordinates."Obi-Wan demanded.
"The coordinates are cross 7RB71."Cad Bane answered.
"That will take us into the far Outer Rim."Ferus commented."The neutral space."
"Do you want your Holocron and your kids or not?"Cad Bane questioned.
Then the ship jumped into hyperspace.
On Coruscant...
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia went to see Chancellor Palpatine.
"Anakin, it is good to see you again."Chancellor Palpatine remarked.
"Your Excellency."Anakin answered.
The Chancellor smiled at Ahsoka, who returned it.
His gaze then went on Nadia, who just bowed at him with a small smile.
"Excuse us, Ahsoka and Nadia."Chancellor Palpatine instructed.
Chancellor Palpatine and Anakin then went into the Office, leaving Ahsoka and Nadia outside the door to wait.
Ahsoka looked at her best friend, noticing a troubled look on her face.
"You okay, Dia?"Ahsoka asked.
"Yeah, just a bit cold."Nadia replied with a small smile.
Nadia didn't understood why, but she felt uncomfortable with the way Palpatine looked at her.
In the Office...
Chancellor Palpatine spoke with Anakin over the incident with Cad Bane.
"I understand you and Nadia made an important arrest in the plot to destroy the Jedi."Chancellor Palpatine exclaimed."Do you both think a simple bounty hunter like Cad Bane could create such a plan since he was able hold the Senate hostage to force me to release Ziro the Hutt?"
"We believe someone else who's much more powerful than Cad Bane was behind this."Anakin admitted. "I don't think it was Count Dooku."
"Oh, and have you both found any clues as to who it may be?"Chancellor Palpatine asked.
"Not yet, Chancellor."Anakin replied.
"Have patience, my boy."Chancellor Palpatine instructed.
Chancellor Palpatine and Anakin then watched the city of Coruscant's sunset view.
On Mustafar...
Darth Sidious via hologram was looking at Wee, who was crying.
"There, there, child."Darth Sidious instructed evilly."Soon you will cry no more."
"Master, subjects of this age rarely survive the slave conditioning procedure."the Surgical Droid reported.
"And I'm afraid the risk is necessary."Darth Sidious answered. "The natural talent these children possess is too great to be wasted by the Jedi, I foresee an army of force-talented spies in my service, trained in the dark side to peer into every corner of the galaxy from afar and my enemies would be helpless against such vision. If the surgery fails, I will have lost nothing."
In Space...
The Jedi Shuttle arrived at the station which Cad Bane specified, but the Jedi Masters and the young commander didn't sense the children.
"We'll be fine, Cody."Obi-Wan assured. "Stay here and watch the ship."
"Yes, sir."Commander Cody replied. "I'll keep the ship running."
The three Jedi and Bane began were walking in the hallway.
"I do not sense any children nearby."Obi-Wan admitted.
"Neither do I."Mace Windu said.
"Same with me."Ferus added.
"Where are you keeping the children?"Obi-Wan demanded.
"The children are safe."Cad Bane answered. "But first, there is your precious holocron let me get it for you."
"No more of your tricks."Mace Windu said while walking towards the Holocron causing alarms to start. "Blast!"
Ferus glared at Mace Windu.
"You certainly stepped in it this time."Ferus said sarcastically.
Ferus, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan then activated their lightsabers to block the droids laser blasts.
"So long, Jedi."Cad Bane sneered.
Cad Bane then made his escape as Mace Windu looked at his companions.
"Now what do we do?"Mace Windu asked.
The Jedi defended themselves as Cad Bane leaves the station in an escape pod.
Back on the Resolute...
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia were checking Cane Bane's fighter for any clues on finding the location where the stolen infants were taken.
"Well, the piloting systems are clean."Anakin said. "Check the landing gear?"
"Double-checked it."Ahsoka replied. "I have the feeling Master Windu, Obi-Wan and Ferus could've used our help."
"Not a complete surprise."Nadia remarked looking at the floor.
"I don't like being out of the action either, but somebody's got to do this job."Anakin stated.
"And it always ends up being us."Ahsoka commented.
"Yep."Nadia muttered, agreeing with her best friend."A sea of grief..."
"Bane picked up a lot of volcanic ash on his travels."Ahsoka admitted.
Nadia looked at Artoo.
"What have you got, Artoo?"Nadia questioned.
Artoo beeped at Nadia as Anakin brought up a view of Bane's stops for fuel.
"Looks like Bane erased his navigation records, but not his fuel computer."Anakin retorted.
Ahsoka sat on the opposite wing while Nadia was sitting on as they looked at the viewer.
"So?"Ahsoka asked.
"If we cross the list of planets we know he visited with the distance he travelled."Anakin exclaimed.
Ahsoka and Nadia smiled at each other.
"We may be able to calculate where else he went."Nadia suggested.
"That's a new one."Ahsoka said with a smile.
"It's an old Jedi trick we use to track down smugglers."Anakin andmitted and looked at the list of planets which Bane travelled to and found a new one. "Okay, let's see. Glee Anselm, Rodia, Mustafar, Naboo..."
Nadia suddenly felt a little bit of pain in her body and a vision flashed in her mind.
There she saw a vision of two shadowy figures clashing their lightsabers at each other as they dulled in the bridge of the corrupted factory on Mustafar.
The raven haired girl then immediately snapped out her thoughts and realised something.
"I think the children are on Mustafar."Nadia stated.
Ahsoka looked at her best friend.
"How can you tell, Dia?"Ahsoka asked.
"I just know, Soka..."Nadia said quietly.
"You're right, Kitty."Anakin agreed. "There wouldn't be any children on Mustafar, it's a mining world, very remote, probably stopped there to refuel."
"That explains the ash."Ahsoka admitted. "But it was six systems out of his way."
"Maybe he met up with whoever he's working for."Nadia suggested. "It's worth a look, isn't it?"
"Anything to get out of this hangar."Anakin added.
The Jedi Knight walked away followed by Ahsoka, Nadia and Artoo.
The trio then went on the Twilight and jumped into hyperspace.
Meanwhile...
Ferus was able to get the Bolocron and showed it to his companions.
"I've got the Holocron."Ferus informed.
Then the three Jedi and Commander Cody quickly made their escape at the station before it self-destructed.
On the Twilight...
"We're coming up on Mustafar."Ahsoka reported.
"Artoo, begin the landing cycle."Anakin ordered.
Artoo beeped as he rolled to the panel beside Nadia's seat and plugged in.
Nadia sat behind the duo and was thinking about the vision she saw before.
The Twilight headed to Mustafar.
On Mustafar...
The Surgical Droid reported to Darth Sidious of the Jedi coming to Mustafar to rescue the infants.
"Master, a star ship is approaching."the Surgical Droid declared."It is not Cad Bane."
"This was unexpected."Darth Sidious answered bitterly."Evacuate the children to my secondary facility. I'm afraid this installation is lost. We must destroy all the evidence turn off the gravity supports and let the building sink into the lava."
"I beg your pardon, sir."the Surgical Droid said.
"Just do as I say."Darth Sidious replied in a strict tone.
The Twilight landed on one of the landing pads before exiting the ship.
The three Jedi and Artoo walked down the ramp.
"You sure this is the right place?"Ahsoka asked.
"We're gonna find out."Anakin informed.
"I'm pretty sure it is."Nadia admitted.
Artoo plugged in and opened the door.
"We sense something, Master."Ahsoka stated."And we don't like it."
"This feeling is making us sick."Nadia scoffed in disgust.
"It's the Dark Side, Ahsoka and Nadia."Anakin declared."This is the right place."
Nadia then felt something cold and evil around them making her clench her fists.
It was the same feeling she had with the vision she saw.
The three Jedi ran to the hallway and heard a cry echo around it.
"Did you guys hear that?"Nadia questioned.
"Yeah, we heard it."Anakin assured."The question is, where are they?"
Ahsoka and Nadia closed their eyes and reached out in the Force.
They then pointed to the direction, where the cry came from.
"This way."Ahsoka admitted.
The three Jedi started running as Artoo followed them from behind.
They then activated their lightsabers to open the entrance.
When they came inside they saw the lights were off.
The three Jedi looked around the room and saw the cribs were empty.
"We're too late."Ahsoka stated sadly.
Nadia then sensed something through the Force.
"Not really, Soka."Nadia answered."Listen more carefully."
"I can sense they're still here as well."Anakin admitted.
The three Jedi then activated their lightsabers when they heard a whirring sound.
A droid's eyes light up while holding Wee in its arms and started moving forward causing the baby to cry.
A second droid came on Anakin's right and was holding the Nautolan child before attempting to punch him with his free arm.
Anakin dodged the punches of the droids.
"Be careful of the younglings."Anakin warned.
"We know!"Ahsoka and Nadia answered in unison.
Nadia held her lightsaber as she and Ahsoka dodged the other droid's punches.
Alarm sounds started beeping and the floor started to break up.
A big part of the floor broke with one side and going close to the lava.
This caused the first droid holding the Nautolan child to sink.
Nadia managed to cut the arms of the first droid and Ahsoka quickly grabbed the Nautolan baby.
Anakin grabbed Wee and used the second droid to jump back to the others, knocking it into the lava.
The Jedi Knight then gave the Rodian child to Nadia.
Nadia groaned. "The panel's fried!"
"Where's Artoo?"Anakin questioned.
The door opened and revealed Artoo in the entrance.
The group started making a run as the facility started exploding around them.
Once outside they rushed to the ship and into the cockpit.
Anakin started the ship while Ahsoka and Nadia tried to calm the babies down.
Ahsoka smiled at the Nautolan baby in her arms.
"It's okay."Ahsoka assured.
Nadia slowly rocked Wee in her arms and he fell asleep.
The Twilight flew away from Mustafar and jumped into hyperspace.
Afterwards…
It was now night time on Coruscant.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia along with Ferus met up with the Jedi Council.
"The base was completely destroyed, Master Yoda."Anakin declared."So was any clue about who's behind this."
"Most unfortunate this is."Master Yoda stated.
"And we still have Bane."Anakin admitted.
Unhappy looks appeared on Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia's faces when they notice the Council members' looks.
"He got away again."Ahsoka said in annoyance.
"Great."Nadia muttered bitterly.
Ferus sighed. "Yeah."
"The important thing is that the children are safe and we've recovered the Holocron."Obi-Wan replied.
"The list is intact and there is no evidence it was copied."Mace Windu stated.
"Still, the future of all Jedi uncertain is."Master Yoda admitted.
Nadia was silent for a moment before another one of her realisation ideas came into her mind.
"Actually, Master Yoda, I think I have an idea who Cad Bane's employer is."Nadia admitted.
This caused everyone to look at the raven haired girl with surprised expressions.
"Who is it, young Aomori?"Master Yoda questioned.
"Considering Master Skywalker doesn't think Count Dooku is behind this and the Dark Side presence we felt on Mustafar, I think it's Darth Sidious."Nadia assumed. "He must've tried to build an army of Force-sensitive spies for the Sith who are trained in the ways of the Dark Side."
"I think you're right, Nadia."Obi-Wan agreed."Considering Bane had access to the blueprints for the Jedi Temple and knew Master Ropal was the keeper of the Kyber Memory Crystal and the Temple of Eedit on Devaron, this is proof enough that Count Dooku wasn't lying to me about Darth Sidious' place in the Senate. I also imagine he's the one who convinced Viceroy Gunray to loan Bane the Trade Federation's fleet for his attack on Devaron."
"If Darth Sidious is behind this scheme, move forward cautiously we must."Master Yoda declared.
Obi-Wan smiled at Nadia.
"Nadia, I don't think we could've saved the children and figure Darth Sidious was the mastermind of this terrible plot if it wasn't for your brilliant efforts and insights."Obi-Wan exclaimed."The rest of your success in the Clone Wars has not gone unnoticed by the Jedi Council and Chancellor Palpatine. So it's with great happiness that we promote you to Jedi Commander."
Nadia was surprised at her Master's declaration and then bowed at him.
"Thanks, Master Kenobi."Nadia responded.
"Way to go, Dia."Ferus admitted.
"You earned it."Ahsoka remarked.
"If you keep up the rate you're going at, you'll be a Jedi Knight in no time."Anakin complemented.
Anakin, Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia bowed at the Council and then walked out.
Nadia went up to Ferus.
"Thank goodness, we managed to escape."Nadia stated."I couldn't stand another minute of being on that hellish planet since it was a world of the Sith."
"Or was it because you missed me?"Ferus teased.
Nadia smirked a little and nudged Ferus in the arm.
"In your dreams."Nadia sneered with a smug look.
Ferus chuckled and gave her quick kiss on the cheek before walking away.
Nadia looked at Ferus in surprise as a small pink blush grew on her face.
"Oh my gosh!"Nadia thought in disbelief."Did he just..."
But she then immediately snapped out it.
"No. It was just a friendly kiss."Nadia said quietly."Nothing more."
The raven haired girl then went to her room to sleep, feeling exhausted from the mission she had today.
