Chapter 18: Unexpected Visitors
Nadia was in her room, looking through the belongings that belonged to her family members.
The raven haired girl carefully moved a couple of stuff to take out the perfume bottle that was a present from her father to her mother for their wedding anniversary.
But the last time she actually laid eyes on it was when her mother angrily threw it out of her bedroom.
Nadia used the perfume bottle to spray a little bit of its scent on her neck, enjoying the smell of millaflowers which was an especially aromatic flower from Naboo.
It was the exact fragrance that her mother Freya always smelled of.
But then Freya stopped wearing it after the argument she had with Rostek.
A troubled look appeared on Nadia's face.
What happened between her parents?
They were so in love with each other and lucky to have one another.
What would've caused them to have a quarrel with each other?
She didn't understand.
Flashback…
A six-year-old Nadia smiled brightly as she and Rostek walked in Axial Park which was a major point of interest at Coronet City on Corellia that showcased Corellian's appreciation for nature.
Amongst the towering structures and high-speed trams, one was always able to find a small tree-lined park or a quiet reflection pool in Corellia's Axial Park in Coronet City. This site marked the grandest expression of the world'sdesire to remain connected to nature that differentiated it from the likes of other metropolises such as Nar Shaddaa and Coruscant.
As a result, Axial Park cost over seventy billion credits, and Coronet City's civil engineers set aside valuable real estate for the creation of several museums along with landmarks that were separated by beautiful parklands.
Nadia looked at her father.
"Guess what, Papa!"Nadia remarked as she looked up to her dad as they strolled in the park."Someday, when I grow up, I'm going to be your wife!"
"Oh, that's very sweet of you, honey, but…"Rostek started and knelt down to his daughter's level."Your teacher told you, didn't she?"
"Huh?"Nadia said in confusion.
"When you grow up, someday you'll meet the man you truly love."Rostek exclaimed.
"More than I love you?"Nadia guessed.
A chuckle escaped from Rostek's mouth.
"Hmm…well, it's hard to explain."Rostek said with a smile."But if you truly love that person, and he loves you just as much it will make me the happiest father in the whole galaxy."
Nadia brought her attention on the photo with her as a little girl with Jayden and her parents before picking it up.
"Big brother, did you know why father and mother argued with each other?"Nadia asked and smiled a bit."You probably would tell me since we promised not to keep promises with each other."
The raven haired girl then notice her holopad vibrating causing her to go over and answer it.
"Hello, Nadia. It's your Grandmother Valerie. I'm writing down to tell you that a few people have come by to see you in Coruscant. They're staying at a hotel called Kallad's Dream Vacation Hostel. When you meet up with them, you'll learn something that would probably find upsetting. But whatever happens, know that I've accepted what has happened between your parents and wish you all a better life. Yours sincerely, Grandmother Valerie."
Nadia lowered down her holopad after she finished reading her grandmother's message.
RG-G1 beeped as he went over to the raven haired girl.
Nadia glanced at RG-G1 with a smirk on her face.
"Of course I'm going, RG-G1."Nadia answered smugly and picked up her cloak."I'll see who are these people that my grandmother want me to visit. But if I'm taking long, give a good excuse to Soka and my Master if they ask where I was."
RG-G1 let out a frowning beep.
Nadia then headed out of her private chamber and carefully made her way out of the Jedi Temple from its hangar as she did with Ahsoka many times in the past.
Outside…
Nadia made her way to the station to take the train that will bring her to Kallad's Dream Vacation Hostel.
The fourteen year old girl arrived in front on the grand hotel, only to feel a familiar presence through the Force.
"What is this feeling I'm having all the sudden?"Nadia thought as she placed her hand on her chest."It's weird…"
Nadia made her way inside the hotel, only to become surprised upon seeing the people who were waiting for her.
It was Hal and his mother, Sierra.
Hal was now a handsome seventeen year old boy and wore the traditional Corellian Jedi green robes with dark grey boots.
Sierra Corak was an elegant adult woman in her early 30s with fair skin and amethyst purple eyes. Her dark sandy brown wavy hair was worn loose. She wore a white tank-top with a pale beige jacket over her shoulders, a long light blue skirt and cream heels. There was a silver bracelet with emerald gems on her right wrist.
"Hal!"Nadia said in amazement."It's you!"
Nadia rushed over to Hal to hug him and he hugged him back.
"Hey, Nadia."Hal replied."Long time no see."
"Whoa. Look at you."Nadia remarked and smirked."You don't look like a wimp anymore."
"And you still have your snooty attitude."Hal joked.
"Watch it."Nadia sneered.
Nadia gives Hal a playful punch on the arm, making him chuckle.
Sierra smiled and cleared her throat to earn Nadia's attention.
"Hi, Miss Corak."Nadia greeted and hugged Sierra."It's nice to see you again."
"It's nice to see you again too, Nadia."Sierra responded.
"Mama!"A female voiced called out."Hallie!"
A four year old girl reached Hal, grabbing his robes and gazing up at him with wide deep grey coloured eyes.
Her hair was sandy brown and very curly, arranged into a pair of pigtails. She wore white long-sleeved top with a yellow shirt over it. She also wore a long pale green skirt and brown boots with dark blue socks.
"May, sweetie."Sierra sighed."Didn't I tell you before not to sneak off without your brother?"
"Sorry, mummy."Maybelline apologised."There was white chocolate bread pudding in the buffet table, so I couldn't help myself."
"You really need to learn not eat between meals, little sister."Hal declared with a frown."It's not good for you."
Maybelline gives Hal a cheeky grin.
Nadia smiled at the sight of Maybelline, finding her adorable.
But she found it strange that the toddler didn't have Hal's turquoise green eyes or her mother's amethyst purple eyes.
Maybelline's eyes were deep yet familiar grey colour.
"Now introduce yourself to our guest."Sierra instructed.
Nadia snapped her thoughts when Maybelline detached herself from Hal and went up to her.
"Hello!"Maybelline greeted happily."I'm Maybelline!"
Maybelline let out a giggle and held out her hand that appeared to be covered with icing.
Nadia smiled sheepishly at the thought of having to take it.
"Ah, a moment!"Sierra scoffed.
Sierra squatted down and wiped her daughter's mouth and hands clean with a lace-edged handkerchief.
"Alas, so stiff."Sierra complained, in that same amused tone as before."But we'll remedy that in time, I'm sure."
Nadia then shook Maybelline's hand, making her giggle.
"Are you Nadia Horn?"Maybelline questioned.
"Yeah."Nadia answered."It is a pleasure to meet you."
"It's nice to finally meet you too, Nadia. My name's Maybelline Horn."Maybelline answered with a curtsy."I'm your little sister."
A stunned look appeared on Nadia's face.
What did Maybelline just said she was?
"My little sister?"Nadia said in disbelief."I don't have a younger sibling."
"Yes, you do."Maybelline remarked with a bright smile and hugged Nadia."My papa was Rostek Horn. Though, I never actually met him. But my mama is Hallie's mama."
Nadia glanced at Hal and Sierra.
"We need to talk."Hal stated.
Back at the Jedi Temple…
Ahsoka went to visit Nadia in her private chamber, only to find RG-G1 by himself.
"Hey, G1."Ahsoka greeted."Have you seen, Dia?"
RG-G1 let out a beep.
"She's taking a shower?"Ahsoka said in surprise."Doesn't usually Nadia have showers in the middle of the night?"
RG-G1 gave Ahsoka an nervous yet assuring beep.
"Hey. You don't think I know my best friend?"Ahsoka scoffed suspiciously."If she is not in the showers, then where she is? Come on. You can tell me."
RG-G1 started vibrating only to unleash a little smoke bomb to block Ahsoka's view before making his escape out of Nadia's private chamber.
Ahsoka scoffed and went out of Nadia's private chamber as she glared to the direction where the droid was heading off to.
"Hey! Come back, you tin head!"Ahsoka demanded as she started to chase after RG-G1."I want to know!"
At the Kallad's Dream Vacation Hostel...
Sierra poured cups of bantha chai for herself, her children and step-daughter while there were various cakes next to their cups.
Maybelline took a sip from cup of bantha chai, enjoying its blue in hue and rich in texture beside its mellow flavour and pleasant aroma.
Hal drank his tea as well while Nadia had a stern look on her face.
"I was seventeen years old when I first met your father, Nadia and Maybelline. It was in the middle of the summer, I was just in the middle of fishing. The moment that our eyes met I felt being hit by the dart of love."Sierra explained shyly."Anyway, he invited me to dinner the following day and that was the beginning of it. We began dating, but our romance cooled when Rostek was called away on missions by the Jedi Council back home. While he was away, I ended up marrying one of my long-standing admirer, Dimitri Corak."
Hal remained silent despite the mention of his father that he had very little memory of, but didn't say anything as he, Maybelline and Nadia listened to his mother's story.
"Dimitri was a kind and caring man to me that loved me very deeply. It was not long after that we fell in love and got married. Since I was now a married woman, me and Rostek remained friends, however. A year later, Rostek was made godfather to Hal and he eventually started visiting me and Dimitri in various occasions. Everything was going so well. But then a few years later, Dimitri got sick and passed away. I felt so depressed that my son was now without a father. So my family comforted me when that happened and so did Rostek. I thought Rostek and I would get married. However, he then found love again with Freya Aomori, your mother, Nadia. The two of them went on to marry a couple of months later."
Nadia gives a slight nod.
"But then how can you marry papa if he was already married, mama?"Maybelline asked.
A slight blush grew on Sierra's face as she lowered her tea cup.
"I…I actually never married Rostek, Maybelline."Sierra admitted with a hint of shame."We continued our relationship even though he was still married to Nadia's mum."
Hal nearly choked on his tea while Nadia couldn't believe what she just heard.
Her father was having an affair with Sierra even though he was married to her mother.
That explained why her mother was so upset when she threw the perfume he gave to her on their wedding anniversary.
"We were planning for us to get married after I learned that I was pregnant."Sierra admitted and then clenched her skirt tightly."But then a fire suddenly happened and it killed my beloved and his family. Except, Nadia."
For both my children to lose their fathers in such an early time, was utterly painful."Sierra commented as she struggled to hold back her tears."I feel like Dimitri and Rostek has given me so much through the years and still today. I see my kids. I look at them — I see them. The only two men that I will only love in my life. They living within them. They are still part of our lives every day, so I have to say that I feel very, very strong."
Sierra glanced at Nadia.
"Nadia, I'm so sorry that I came between your parents."Sierra apologised regretfully."I didn't mean to cause any trouble to your family. I was going through a tough time without my husband. But overall, I'm really sorry for all of it."
Nadia looked down for a moment before looking at her step-mother.
"Look, Sierra. I…I honestly don't know what to say about all of this since I'm just a teenager. But I am strongly amazed how my mother chose to stay with my father for all the things he had done right and not to leave him for the one thing he had done wrong."Nadia declared with a fragile smile."Despite, learning that their marriage wasn't perfect, it will obviously take me a while to accept this. However, I forgive you."
Nadia went over to Sierra to hug her as Hal and Maybelline share a smile with each other.
Sierra embraced Nadia which made her get a warm feeling inside.
"Thank you."Sierra whispered.
Nadia then glanced at Hal.
"Well, it has been nice you again, Hal."Nadia commented."I'll look forward to having a duel battle with you to see whose the best."
A chuckle escaped from Hal's mouth.
"I'll forward to that, Nadia."Hal assured.
Nadia went over to Maybelline and went on her knees, so that their eyes would meet.
"And Maybelline, my little sister."Nadia said with a soft smile."I may find it hard to be an older sister since I always saw myself as the younger sibling when our brother Jayden was alive. But I'll make sure to always try and talk to you whenever you need me."
"Aw, thank you, Nadia."Maybelline thanked and hugged Nadia."I love you."
Nadia embraced Maybelline as she became overwhelmed with emotions.
"I love you too."Nadia responded and thought."I bet daddy and Jayden would've as well."
An Hour Later…
After saying goodbye to her new family, Nadia returned back to the Jedi Temple.
However, the soon as she returned to the dormitory of the Jedi Temple, RG-G1 crashed into her.
"Ow!"Nadia scowled and glared at RG-G1."G1, why aren't you in my room?"
"Dia!"
Nadia saw Ahsoka coming over to her.
"Oh, hey Soka."Nadia greeted."Where have you been?"
Ahsoka stopped next to Nadia to catch her breath.
"Where have I been? Where have you been, Dia?"Ahsoka asked and sent a glare to RG-G1."Your tin head refused to talk and I was nearly close to turn him to scrap metal."
RG-G1 nervously beeped and hid behind Nadia as the raven haired girl gave her best friend an apologetic smile.
"Sorry, Soka."Nadia apologised."I just went out to visit a few people that my grandmother wanted me to meet in a hotel and it was…an interesting meeting."
"Interesting?"Ahsoka asked.
Nadia shook her head.
"Never mind. I'll tell you another time."Nadia assured simply and brought out a lavender coloured dessert box."Anyway, the people gave me a Corellian air cake for us to enjoy after we had lunch and finished doing training with our Masters. It is made from dough and carbosyrup, with a fruit core."
"Sounds good."Ahsoka remarked and looked at Nadia."Hey, Nadia. If there is anything you want to talk about with me, you know you can trust me, right?"
"Of course I do trust you, Ahsoka."Nadia answered."We are best friends and always will be."
Ahsoka smiled back at Nadia.
Nadia and Ahsoka then headed off to complete the rest of the day together with RG-G1 following from behind.
Next we see Ahsoka and Nadia back in action.
See you all in the next chapter:)
