Chapter 39: Kidnapped
A planet of peace!
The artisan colony of the planet Kiros created a society without weapons. Instead of war, they pursue art and beauty.
But in the Clone Wars, even peace-loving worlds are seemingly forced to change sides...
When the Republic forces under the command of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and Nadia land on the surface of Kiros and explore the colony, they encountered none of the colonists.
Anakin was in his combined speeder with Ahsoka on its second seat while Obi-Wan had Nadia in the second seat on his combined speeder.
Both Ahsoka and Nadia wore goggles as they sped through the village with their Masters.
But as the Jedi alongside Captain Rex, Commander Cody and their Clone Trooper squad glanced at each side of the village, they notice there wasn't anybody in the streets.
The whole village was deserted.
"Anybody else thinks it's too quiet?"Ahsoka asked."I haven't seen any colonists."
"They're probably hiding."Anakin assumed.
"Let's hope they stay hidden."Obi-Wan admitted."It makes our job easier if we don't have to worry about them in battle."
Nadia frowned as she glanced at her Master.
"I don't like the look of this, Master."Nadia declared."It's possible the civilians are held by those damn clankers that as living shields."
"I'm sure they're here somewhere, Nadia."Anakin responded."Let's make for the city center."
The Jedi and their Clone Trooper squad began heading towards the city center of the village, only to encounter a squad of commando droids pull up in front of them and their blasters in hand.
"Battle droids."Ahsoka warned as she placed her goggles on her forehead."Dead ahead."
"Squad, tighten up!"Anakin ordered."Form on me!"
The Clone Trooper squad form theirselves around the four Jedi's combined speeders.
As the commando droids began to fire at the group with their blasters, they ended up shooting down one of the Clone Troopers and his speeder goes crashing to the side.
Ahsoka and Nadia share a smirk with each other before the two of them stood up from their seats to activate their lightsabers to deflect the shots from the blasters of the commandos.
Together, the two best friends then destroyed a few commandos using the miniguns of their seats while their Masters rode their bikes.
Soon, the unit of droid commandos were defeated easily.
"We're all clear, Master."Ahsoka declared.
The group soon arrived the city center and eventually penetrate the colony up to the Governor's tower, which served as the headquarters of the Separatist occupation force's commander, the Zygerrian Darts D'Nar.
Ahsoka and Nadia smiled in amusement as they watched the tank of the battle droids explode not far from where they and their companions were.
Then the bike of Captain Rex and Commander Cody pulled up next to Obi-Wan and Nadia's bike.
"Captain, have your men secure the area."Obi-Wan ordered.
Captain Rex nodded before driving off with Commander Cody.
Later on, the group have the governors tower completely surrounded, and a temporary base camp was set up with several AT-TE's and the Clone Troopers set to work on securing the perimeter or fixing their damaged speeders.
Ahsoka and Nadia were kneeling by a transmitter in an attempt to prepare it for use while Boil walked up to them and Master Kenobi on a scout walker.
"How we doing, Boil?"Obi-Wan asked.
"We're still mopping up clankers here and there, sir."Boil reported."We established a perimeter around Governor Roshti's tower. No one gets out without a fight."
"Good work."Obi-Wan praised and brought his attention on Commander Cody."Cody, any word from the Separatist Commander?"
"He's barricaded inside. His name is Darts D'Nar."Commander Cody admitted."He sent you a message, sir."
Commander Cody pulled out a small communicator and activated it, showing a hologram of D'Nar.
"Master Kenobi, come to the tower."D'Nar ordered."We will negotiate terms for surrender."
"Well, that was easy."Obi-Wan said with a hint of surprise.
Suddenly, the communicator was suddenly pulled out of Commander Cody's hand by Anakin, who then crushed it with his metal hand.
"Zygerrian scum!"Anakin growled in pure rage."I'll handle that slaver!"
Ahsoka became surprised by Anakin's sudden behaviour while Nadia bit her lip at the sight.
Unlike Ahsoka, Nadia already knew the reason of Anakin's sudden anger at seeing a Zygerrian slaver since she learned about the Jedi Knight's past from her Master during their mission to Tatooine to rescue Jabba the Hutt's son from Count Dooku and Darth Sidious.
"Anakin, he asked for me."Obi-Wan reminded."I need you to locate the missing Togruta colonists with Ahsoka and Nadia."
Anakin let out a sigh with a slight glare on his face.
"Fine."Anakin responded."I'll have Admiral Yularen initiate a planetary bio-scan."
Artoo chirped with worry as he followed after Anakin while Ahsoka and Nadia went next to Obi-Wan.
"Why is he so upset?"Ahsoka asked.
"Anakin has never talked about his past, has he?"Obi-Wan assumed.
"Only to tell me he won't talk about it."Ahsoka replied.
"As a child, Anakin and his mother were sold into slavery by the Hutt clans."Obi-Wan declared.
"Oh."Ahsoka answered with a hint of sadness."And these Zygerrians, they're slavers?"
"Anakin has struggled to put his past behind him."Obi-Wan admitted.
"Who can blame him, Master?"Nadia replied, rubbing her right arm."If you see something that reminds you of the bad parts of your past, you can't help but get angry upon seeing it."
Ahsoka let out a sigh as she looked at Obi-Wan and Nadia.
"Don't worry."Ahsoka assured."I'll keep an eye on him."
"Yes."Obi-Wan agreed."Make sure you do."
Nadia notice Anakin busy speaking to Admiral Yularen via hologram with Artoo next to him before glancing at Obi-Wan.
"Master, are you sure you don't want me to come with you?"Nadia questioned.
"I think it's for the best if you stay here, young one."Obi-Wan requested."You need to help Ahsoka keep an eye on Anakin since you know what he's going through right now."
"Okay, Master."Nadia answered with a nod."But please be careful."
Obi-Wan nodded at Nadia before he began making his way towards Governor Roshti's tower while the raven haired girl went up to Ahsoka.
Inside the Governor's Tower...
D'Nar sat on a chair of a desk which was in the top room of the tower as he spoke to Count Dooku and Atai Molec via hologram while there were various small cages around that contained various creatures in them while two droid commandos held blasters to protect him.
"Device shipment has been received, D'Nar."Atai admitted as he stroked his Convor bird."I understand the Jedi have attacked. Why are you still there?"
"I'm going to make the Jedi pay for their arrogance."D'Nar informed."I have them right where I want them."
Obi-Wan had his hands raised up as he appeared from the elevator.
"Do tell."Obi-Wan insisted.
"Gentlemen, meet Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Master of the Jedi Council."Count Dooku declared.
Atai growled at seeing Obi-Wan with a hateful look on his eyes as Count Dooku glanced at D'Nar.
"D'Nar, bring him to me on his knees."Count Dooku ordered.
"With pleasure."D'Nar replied.
Then the holograms of Count Dooku and Atai disappeared from sight as Obi-Wan walked up to D'Nar.
"We were going to discuss surrender?"Obi-Wan reminded.
"Yes."D'Nar answered."You will surrender."
"We obviously have a misunderstanding, my friend."Obi-Wan remarked.
Obi-Wan secretly pressed his comlink, so that his fellow Jedi could hear the conversation he was having with D'nar.
"No, you are wrong, Jedi."D'Nar declared.
"Am I?"Obi-Wan questioned."You are no doubt aware your droid forces have been destroyed and you are surrounded. Do the honorable thing and give up now, D'nar. I promise you will receive fair treatment."
D'Nar scoffed as he stroked his Convor bird.
"You've broken through my defenses. You think you've won? Think again."D'Nar retorted."I have planted bombs all over the city. No one will survive. Now, surrender."
"If you're not bluffing, then I must concede, but you'll have to make considerations."Obi-Wan suggested."First, you release the colonists."
"Here is my counter offer."D'Nar admitted evilly.
The tactical droid of D'Nar then pressed a red button of a detonator he held.
Anakin, Commander Cody, Ahsoka and Nadia ducked their heads as an explosion destroyed one of the nearby buildings, sending a couple of the Clone Troopers to hit the ground.
Inside the Governor's Tower...
Obi-Wan rushed to check which building was hit as D'Nar spoke to him.
"There will no colonists in that structure, but there could have been."D'Nar admitted and glared at Obi-Wan."Now bow down and surrender to me, you Jedi filth."
Anakin, Ahsoka, Nadia, Captain Rex, Commander Cody and a few Clone Troopers aided their wounded comrades.
"I need a medic over here!"Nadia called out.
Nadia stood up as a medic Clone Trooper went over to one of the Clone Trooper that was wounded as Anakin looked for Artoo.
"Artoo, where are you?"Anakin asked.
Artoo beeped as he went over to Anakin.
"Watch yourself, buddy."Anakin warned."This is still a war zone."
Artoo gave out another respond.
Anakin glanced at Commander Cody.
"Cody, we don't have time for the planetary scan."Anakin ordered."Hook Artoo up, and he'll locate the bombs."
"Right away, sir."Commander Cody answered with a nod.
Anakin brought his attention on Ahsoka and Nadia as he walked past them.
"Ahsoka and Nadia, let's go."Anakin ordered.
"Huh?"Nadia said in confusion.
"Where are we going?"Ahsoka asked.
"To disarm the bombs while Obi-Wan negotiates."Anakin exclaimed."I hope he can buy us some time."
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia then went on their on AT-RTs to go and find the bombs to disarm them.
Inside the Governor's Tower...
Obi-Wan placed his lightsaber on the desk to show D'Nar that he gave up.
"Very well."Obi-Wan replied."I surrender."
D'Nar stood up from where he sat as he held his Convor to walk up to Obi-Wan.
"Long before this war, the Jedi Order destroyed the great Zygerrian Slave Empire."D'Nar snarled."I would kill you now, but Dooku would prefer you alive."
"I understand your frustration."Obi-Wan commented."It is unfortunate you and I cannot resolve our differences as you do in the Zygerrian tradition."
The Convor bird of D'Nar went up as the Zygerrian slaver cackled at Obi-Wan.
"With no weapons, you would fight me?"D'Nar challenged.
"For good reason."Obi-Wan answered with a small smirk."Say, if I win, you reveal the location of the colonists and the bombs."
"And if I win, I'll deliver you to Dooku in a cage, like one of these filthy creatures."D'Nar admitted.
The creatures in the small cages chattered angrily at D'Nar.
"Perhaps."Obi-Wan replied.
Then D'Nar and Obi-Wan started fighting against each other in hand-to-hand combat.
However, it seemed the Zygerrian slaver was easily overpowering the Jedi Master and sent his opponent against a gold statue next to the caged creatures and broke it.
"Careful. You're disturbing my pets."D'Nar taunted cruelly."They fetch a high price."
Obi-Wan glared at D'nar.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia rode on their AT-RTs as Commander Cody made contact with the Jedi Knight.
"General Skywalker, Artoo's transmitting the bomb coordinates now."Commander Cody reported.
"Copy that, Cody."Anakin answered."We're approaching the first bomb now. Let's go."
The three Jedi made their way through the battle droids that guarded the first bomb.
Ahsoka jumped off her AT-RT and activated her lightsabers to fight the battle droids as Nadia activated her own blades to help out her best friend.
After they destroyed the battle droids and deactivating their lightsabers, Ahsoka and Nadia went over to the bomb.
Anakin went up to the two girls while riding on his AT-RT.
"There must be a wire we should cut..."Ahsoka started."Or something to stop the countdown."
"A little tricky to figure out since we're in a hurry, Soka."Nadia commented.
"Stand back."Anakin instructed.
Ahsoka and Nadia backed away as Anakin activated his lightsaber to deactivate the bomb.
"Wow."Ahsoka said in awe."How did you know that would work?"
"I trusted my instincts."Anakin declared proudly.
"You mean you guessed."Nadia sneered.
"Yeah, but it was an educated guess."Anakin remarked."Now, come on. There's plenty more to go."
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia rode back on their AT-RTs to go find the rest of the bombs.
Inside the Governor's Tower...
In order to divert D'Nar's attention from the disarming attempt, Obi-Wan exploits the Zygerrians' ancient hatred of the Jedi to goad him into hand-to-hand combat and acts not to fight back properly.
"For thousands of years, Zygerria supplied slave labor to the galaxy. We prospered."D'Nar retorted as he beat Obi-Wan up."Our customers prospered. Then the Jedi came."
Obi-Wan groaned as D'Nar started strangling him on the table.
Then a battle droid contacted D'Nar by the small Holo-transmitter on the table.
"Uh, excuse me, sir."the battle droid spoke up."We have a problem."
"What problem?"D'Nar demanded with a glare.
"Our spotters are tracking three enemy walkers moving-"the battle droid started.
Obi-Wan quickly grabbed D'Nar and smashed his head on the Holo-transmitter to cover his comrades' moves.
The Jedi Master backed away as the Zygerrian slaver growled at him.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia rode on their AT-RTs to the location of the city which held the last bombs of D'Nar that was guarded by a couple of battle droids.
"These are the last of them."Anakin informed.
The Jedi Knight and the two Padawans then jumped off their AT-RTs and activated their lightsabers to fight the battle droids.
The battle droids fired using their blasters as the three Jedi overpowered them while the bomb was beeping, preparing to explode.
Anakin glanced at Ahsoka.
"Defuse the bomb, me and Nadia will cover you!"Anakin ordered.
"Be sure to be quick, Soka!"Nadia insisted.
Ahsoka deactivated her lightsabers to go and try defuse the first bomb as Anakin and Nadia protected her from the battle droids' laser attacks.
"Master, Dia, I think the bombs are linked."Ahsoka warned.
"You're supposed to disarm them, not activate them!"Anakin reminded.
Ahsoka caught sight of super battle droids on the roof of the building nearby.
"Droids!"Ahsoka warned."On the roof!"
"On it!"Nadia answered.
Nadia deactivated her lightsabers and placed them on her belt before rushing forward and using her Force Judgement to blast at the super battle droids, destroying them.
"If they're connected, we'll have to defuse them at the same time."Anakin assumed.
Then a small group of droidekas appeared on the roof.
"Snipers!"Ahsoka shouted.
The droidekas started firing at Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia, who deflected their attacks with their blades.
"The shields are too strong!"Nadia scowled.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia went their separate ways to quickly take cover from the droidekas' laser attacks.
Inside the Governor's Tower...
Obi-Wan was struggling to fight back against D'Nar's brutal attacks.
"Come on, Anakin."Obi-Wan muttered."Hurry up."
The bombs were beeping even more as Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia continued hiding from the droidekas' laser attacks.
"Master, we're running out of time!"Ahsoka warned.
Nadia quickly ducked down from the craft she hid in as she glanced at her companions.
"We're going to have a serious trouble, if we don't stop those bombs!"Nadia retorted.
"I know."Anakin answered."We have to do something, and quick."
Anakin went to other side of the wall he hid in to look at a weak part of a firing droideka.
"Ahsoka! Nadia! They're weak from the side!"Anakin called out."I've got an angle on your droids!"
Ahsoka glanced at the droidekas that fired on Anakin and Nadia's sides.
"Okay, I've got a view of yours too!"Ahsoka informed.
Nadia smirked. "So do I!"
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia share a glance with each other.
"Same time."Ahsoka instructed."Ready…"
"Steady…"Nadia started.
"Go!"Anakin ordered.
Together, the three Jedi deflected their lightsabers to the angles where the lasers would hit the weak points of droidekas, destroying them.
Anakin then destroyed the first bomb while Ahsoka and Nadia took out the second bomb together.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia then deactivated their lightsabers.
"We did it."Nadia chuckled.
"That was a close one."Ahsoka remarked.
"Let's hope Obi-Wan shares our luck."Anakin admitted.
Inside the Governor's Tower...
Obi-Wan grunted in pain as D'Nar overpowered him and held him by the throat.
"Now I'll take revenge for my people, Jedi."D'Nar announced coldly.
The tactical droid walked up to D'Nar.
"Sir, you have an urgent transmission."the tactical droid reported.
"Sorry to interrupt, sir, but you weren't responding."the battle droid apologised.
"What is it?"D'Nar questioned.
"Uh...the Jedi have disarmed your bombs."the battle droid admitted.
Outraged look appeared on D'Nar's face.
"What?!"D'Nar snapped.
D'Nar threw Obi-Wan to the ground and snatched the detonator from his tactical droid.
"Give me the detonator!"D'Nar ordered.
D'Nar pressed the red button of the detonator, but none of the bombs exploded in the deserted city.
"Certainly it took him long enough this time."Obi-Wan murmured.
Obi-Wan then used the Force to lift up the two commandos and crushing them with ease before summoning his lightsaber back to him.
The Jedi Master then activated this lightsaber as D'Nar glared at him.
"Shall we discuss your surrender...again?"Obi-Wan suggested with a smirk.
"I still have one bomb left, Jedi."D'Nar admitted
D'Nar then went behind his tactical droid to activate the bomb planted on him.
"Sir, how could you?"the tactical droid said in shock.
D'Nar then throws his tactical droid on top of Obi-Wan before making his escape using the elevator of the tower with his Convor bird.
Obi-Wan, however, quickly stood up to use the Force to throw the tactical droid out of the tower and into an empty ground before its bomb exploded.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia heard the nearby explosion and quickly went on their AT-RTs to make their journey back to their comrades.
Obi-Wan then contacted Anakin in his comlink.
"Anakin! Anakin, come in!"Obi-Wan demanded."D'nar is making his escape from the tower!"
"On our way."Anakin responded.
"We'll never catch him in time."Ahsoka informed.
"We have to, Soka."Nadia stated."He knows where your people are."
"I am not letting that slaver scum get away!"Anakin snarled angrily.
D'Nar scrambled to to his ship, the Tecora, as he was being pursued by Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia.
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia then used their AT-RTs to jump towards the Tecora and used the Force to jump high off their vehicles to arrive on top of the ship.
Anakin used his lightsaber to disable one of the ship's engines before he and the two girls enter via the cargo bay to confront D'Nar.
D'Nar glared at the three Jedi in his monitor before looking at his caged blixus.
"Hungry, my pet?"D'Nar sneered."I'll feed you."
D'Nar then released his blixus on Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia.
"Master!"Ahsoka shouted."Dia!"
The blixus grabbed Anakin and Nadia with its tentacles causing Ahsoka to activate her lightsabers to cut her friends, making the squid-like creature angry.
"Ahsoka, you're only making it angry."Nadia retorted.
"We'll handle is."Anakin assured."Go stabilise the ship."
While Anakin and Nadia engaged the blixus, Ahsoka sneaked on to the bridge to stabilise the ship.
Ahsoka pressed a few buttons to deactivate the last engine of the Tecora causing D'Nar to confront her using his electro-whip,
"Young Jedi."D'Nar growled."You'll learn your place."
Ahsoka activated her lightsabers.
"I'm not so young anymore."Ahsoka replied.
While Ahsoka duelled D'Nar in the cockpit of the ship, Anakin and Nadia fought against the blixus.
Nadia used her Force Judgement to zap the blixus before Anakin stabbed it on the mouth, killing it.
The dead blixus started going off the open cargo hold, taking Anakin with him.
However, Nadia was able to catch Anakin from falling off the Tecora's ramp as the caged creatures.
"Thanks, Dia."Anakin thanked.
"No problem."Nadia remarked.
Anakin and Nadia headed to the cockpit of the Tecora, just in time to see Ahsoka pointing her lightsabers at D'Nar.
"Gotcha."Ahsoka retorted and glanced at her friends while deactivating her lightsabers."Mission accomplished, Anakin."
Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia glared at D'Nar.
"Where are Ahsoka's people?"Anakin demanded.
"I won't tell you anything, Skywalker."D'Nar snarled.
Anakin began to lose his patience with the Zygerrian slaver and pinned him down, ready to kill him with his lightsaber.
"Where are they?!"Anakin demanded angrily.
Ahsoka and Nadia glanced at Anakin in worry.
"Master."Ahsoka warned.
"Don't do it."Nadia instructed."It won't make a difference and isn't what your mother would've wanted."
Anakin glanced at the two girls before angrily releasing D'Nar.
"My Queen's gonna bring back the royal slave auction as in the days before the Jedi Order."D'Nar bragged proudly."Zygerria will be rich and powerful again. The Jedi Order won't stop us this time."
Anakin scoffed at D'Nar's response.
"We'll see about that."Anakin answered.
Back in Coruscant…
Anakin, Ahsoka, Nadia and Admiral Yularen contacted the Jedi Council via hologram.
Finishing his planetary bioscan, Admiral Yularen confirmed that the colonists were nowhere on Kiros.
"General Skywalker, I ran the bio-scan twice, but the results were negative."Admiral Yularen admitted.
"Are you saying Ahsoka's people aren't in the city anymore?"Anakin questioned.
"I'm saying they're not even on the planet."Admiral Yularen declared."The entire population was kidnapped by Count Dooku before we got there."
"Kidnapped by Count Dooku? That's impossible."Ahsoka said with a hint of worry."Those are my people."
Obi-Wan held his chin in thought while Nadia looked down with a troubled look on her face.
"Troubling is the return of the Zygerrians."Master Yoda commented.
"It is likely they mean to use Dooku to rebuild their Slave Empire."Plo Koon assumed.
"We cannot allow that, Master Plo."Anakin stated.
"Agree I do, but first find Ahsoka's people, you must."Master Yoda admitted."In great danger they are."
Plo Koon noticed the concern look on Master Yoda's face.
"What is it, Master Yoda?"Plo Koon asked.
"Share young Aomori's insight, I do that Darth Sidious is behind this malevolent scheme as well."Master Yoda declared."Slavery, a great tool it is for the rise of the Sith."
Nadia paled in fear at Master Yoda's declaration.
She predicted Darth Sidious was behind this new terrible plot as part of his master plan to rise to power by enslaving the galaxy to build his new evil Empire.
What the raven haired girl didn't know was the Sith Lord had other plans in store for the rest of the Jedi Order.
Including a master plan that would lead to their utter demise.
