Chapter 42: A Friend in Need
Divided by war!
In an effort to end the Galactic conflict, the first ever sanctioned meeting between the Republic and the Separatists will be held and Mandalore is chosen as neutral ground for these precarious meetings.
Tensions run high as many hold hope for these important negotiations.
The first meeting between the delegates from both sides was held in the throne room of Duchess Satine, where Padme accompanied by Ferus, Ahsoka, Nadia, Senators Bail Organa and Mon Mothma were hard-pressed in negotiating mutually acceptable terms.
"The Republic recognises the tragedy of war. But there is nothing we can change that has already occurred."Padme commented.
"Say it aloud before this gathering, as representative for Chancellor Palpatine, that you declare without reservation the Separatist State legitimate."Voe Atell argued.
"I have something to say about the legitimacy of the Separatists."A male voice admitted.
Everyone turned around to see Lux Bonteri now the Junior Senator of Onderon entering the throne room.
Ahsoka smiled at the sight of Lux.
"Why's Senator Bonteri here?"Voe questioned.
"What could he possibly have to say?"Bec Lawise questioned.
"He wasn't invited."Voe stated.
Ahsoka glanced at Padme.
"You and Ferus didn't mention Senator Bonteri would be here."Ahsoka whispered.
"We didn't know."Padme replied.
"I stand before you, son of Mina Bonteri, loyal Separatist, a patriot, a friend."Lux stated.
Lux then smiled at Ahsoka, who smiled back at him, making Ferus and Nadia glance at each other with smirks on their faces.
"It has come to my attention that my mother was murdered by Count Dooku's agents at his command in cold blood because of this conference that she tried to start!"Lux admitted.
"That's a lie!"Bec replied as he stood up from his seat."Remove this traitor immediately."
The two battle droids grabbed a hold of Lux.
Ahsoka tried to go up to them, but Nadia quickly grabbed her best friend's shoulder.
"I won't be silenced!"Lux replied.
Duchess Satine glared at the sight before her as she stood up from her throne chair.
"Stop this!"Duchess Satine ordered.
"Will all due respect, we would ask you to respect that we deal with this matter ourselves."Voe commented.
"No, Dooku's deceiving you!"Lux stated."You'll all be betrayed just like my mother."
The battle droids took Lux out of the room.
"I apologise for such a rude interruption."Bec said as he sat back on his seat."Please let us continue."
Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia glanced at Padme.
"We can't just let them take him."Ferus stated.
"He'll be killed."Nadia admitted worriedly.
"Do what the three of you can, but be discreet."Padme reminded.
Lux was taken to the vessel which brought the Separatist delegation to Mandalore and before the holographic projection of Count Dooku.
"Those are some rather strong accusations you have levied against me."Count Dooku stated.
"You know what you did, Dooku."Lux said coldly.
"Do I?"Count Dooku asked, acting innocent."I've done a lot of things, young man and choose to remember them in order of importance, the death of your mother seems to have escaped me."
"I will have my revenge."Lux vowed.
"I think it is time we reacquaint the young senator with his mother."Count Dooku commented."Kill him."
Then the hologram of Count Dooku went off as the two droids got ready to kill Lux.
But then the door opened revealing Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia, who took down the droids using the Force.
"Guys?"Lux asked in surprise.
"Lux, I think it's time to go."Ahsoka admitted."Don't you?"
Lux took Ahsoka's hand and the four teenagers rushed into the elevator.
"Artoo, fire up the engines."Ferus ordered in his comlink."We're leaving."
Artoo beeped at Ferus.
Once the came out of the elevator, the four teenagers rushed out of the Separatist Delegation while Nadia used her Force Judgement to take out the guarding droids.
"Run!"Nadia demanded.
The small group went passed the droids, who began chasing them and firing their guns at them.
"Hurry!"Ahsoka ordered."Hurry!"
"Guys, I appreciate your help, but-"Lux started.
"Keep moving."Ferus responded.
The four teenagers rushed to the Republic Delegation fleet that was guarded by a group of Senate Commandos.
"Captain Taggart, we got incoming clankers."Nadia ordered while pointing at the direction.
"We'll cover you, ma'am."Captain Taggart replied.
The Captain and the other guards fired back at the droids as Lux and the three Jedi headed inside the Republican delegate.
The Republican delegate powered on and flew away from Mandalore.
Inside the Ship...
Ahsoka, Lux, Ferus and Nadia rushed into the cockpit of the ship where Artoo waited for them.
Ferus smiled. "Good job, buddy."
Artoo beeped as he showed a hologram of Anakin.
"Ahsoka, Nadia, Ferus, Padme just contacted me."Anakin said."She told me the peace negotiations have all, but collapsed. Where are you three?"
"We're enroute to Coruscant, Master."Ahsoka replied.
"We have Senator Lux Bonteri of Onderon with us because we just saved him from being executed by the Separatists for accusing Count Dooku of ordering his agents to murder his mother."Nadia declared.
Lux gives Anakin an apologetic look.
"Master Skywalker, I'm sorry that I've caused the Jedi and the Republic any trouble of ruining a diplomatic solution to the Clone War."Lux apologised.
"It's nothing."Ahsoka answered."You will be safe now with the Republic."
"Alright."Anakin stated."Bring Senator Bonteri to Coruscant immediately, so we can discuss giving him amnesty and find a way to save his home world.''
"Don't worry, Anakin."Ferus assured."You can count on us."
Anakin nodded at his adopted brother-in-law.
But when the hologram of Anakin vanished, Lux suddenly pointed a blaster at his three friends.
"I can't go with you three."Lux stated.
"What is that supposed to mean?!"Nadia demanded.
"I told you, I have a plan."Lux replied.
Ahsoka used the Force to simply snatch the gun from Lux's to her own hand.
"Shooting us is not going to be part of it."Ahsoka reminded with a frown.
"What are you doing with a gun anyhow, Lux?"Ferus retorted."You're not a fighter."
"I'm no longer a Separatist either."Lux stated."I won't join the Republic."
"What other options do you have?"Nadia questioned.
"There is a different way."Lux admitted.
"We understand everything you've been through and that you feel alone, but the Republic will help you."Ahsoka assured.
"Like they helped my mother?"Lux questioned with irritated look.
Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia looked down in sadness.
"I've already made contact with a group on Carlac, who are noble and are allied with my cause."Lux explained.
"And what cause is that?"Nadia asked.
"To kill Dooku."Lux answered darkly.
Nadia shook her head at Lux.
"Lux, I lost both my parents and older brother on the same day. Like you, I desire to find a way to avenge them. But at the same time, I know this is not what they wanted."Nadia warned with a stern look."But bringing Dooku to justice is harder than you think because he's got an army of battle droids, General Grievous and he's a Sith Lord. Besides, even if you do succeed, you'll have his Master to deal with."
"Nadia's right."Ferus responded with a small glare."The only one you're going to get killed is yourself."
"I'm sorry, but we're taking you to Coruscant."Ahsoka complemented.
Ahsoka began to pilot the ship as Ferus and Nadia then left the room to get some drinks.
"Without us, how did you think you were going to escape those droids?"Ahsoka asked.
"Like this."Lux replied.
Reluctantly, the Junior Senator then zapped Ahsoka unconscious and took control of the ship.
"I'm sorry, Ahsoka."Lux whispered.
Lux placed Ahsoka in another chair before he took the pilot seat.
Then Artoo came into the room with Ferus and Nadia, who held a tray with four drinks in it.
Ferus, Nadia and Artoo noticed Ahsoka had her eyes closed.
"What's wrong with her?"Ferus asked.
"It seems Ahsoka's quite exhausted from helping me out."Lux lied."She probably should sleep it off."
Nadia letted out a slight chuckle.
"Reminds me of myself."Nadia admitted.
Ferus and Nadia sat on their own seats as Lux made the ship jump into hyperspace.
A While After...
Ahsoka woke up inside the ship's cockpit as she regained her senses.
"Lux?"Ahsoka asked.
Ferus groaned and rubbed his arm while waking up as well.
"What just happened?"Ferus questioned.
"Where are we?"Nadia muttered.
Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia looked outside and saw they were in the wintery surface of Carlac instead of Coruscant.
Artoo let out a response.
"Huh?"Ahsoka said and notice her weapons were missing."Where are my lightsabers?"
"Hey!"Nadia stated while noticing her belt was empty."Mine too!"
Ferus scowled when he realised his lightsaber was gone and that his old friend took their weapons.
"Lux."Ferus muttered coldly.
Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia spotted Lux lingering outside the ship.
"Artoo, take a look around and see if you can find where Lux hid them."Ahsoka stated.
"We're going to have a little chat with Mr Bonteri."Nadia admitted.
Artoo beeped as Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia left the cockpit.
The three Jedi walked up to Lux while wearing warm coats.
Ahsoka wore a deep grey coat with a hood.
Ferus wore a dark green coat and matching hat.
Nadia wore a light pink fluffy coat and matching hat while her hair was braided in two ponytails. On her eyes were blue coloured ski goggles.
"Lux!"Ferus called out."Lux, where are we?"
"And what did you do with our lightsabers?"Ahsoka questioned.
"You three should've stayed on the ship."Lux stated.
But then familiar Mandalorian terrorist showed up around Lux, Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia.
Bo-Katan, the leader of the welcoming committee, brought her attention on Lux.
"Hey, kid."Bo-Katan said bitterly."You're late."
Nadia paled at seeing the Mandalorian terrorist splinter group of warriors that opposed the pacifist government of Mandalore and were the ones that she and Obi-Wan protected Duchess Satine from.
"Death Watch."Nadia muttered softly with a hint of anger.
"Did you get us what we need?"Bo-Katan asked.
"Yes, I have the information with me."Lux answered.
Bo-Katan then glanced at Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia.
"Who are they?"Bo-Katan asked.
"We're his friends."Ferus replied with a fake smile.
"Yeah, we're pretty close."Nadia commented.
Nadia held Ferus' arm while Ahsoka suddenly smiled a bit as she held Lux's arm.
"And I'm his betrothed."Ahsoka admitted.
"Right."Lux replied.
Bo-Katan looked at Ahsoka while Ferus and Nadia kept wearing their anxious smiles.
"Betrothed?"Bo-Katan asked and smack Ahsoka from behind."Little skinny, isn't she?"
Ahsoka glared at Bo-Katan in anger.
"She serves her purpose."Lux admitted.
"We leave now."Bo-Katan said as she shoved passed Ahsoka."The snow is coming."
As Bo-Katan and the Death Watch members walked off, Lux got glares from his three Jedi companions.
"What have you gotten us into?"Ferus whispered angrily.
"It's all under control."Lux replied.
Then a floating car arrived with a speeder.
"These are the Death Watch."Ahsoka whispered."They're Mandalorian terrorists, they'll kill the four of us."
"Especially me since my Master and I are the ones responsible for their exile."Nadia committed strictly.
A male Death Watch member glanced at Ferus, Ahsoka, Nadia and Artoo.
"Are you coming?"the male Death Watch member asked.
"No."Ahsoka admitted.
"We're gonna stay with the ship."Nadia suggested.
"No."the male Death Watch member replied sternly."You four are coming too."
Then two Death Watch members placed Artoo in the car.
Soon Lux, Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia were brought to a Death Watch outpost to meet the leader, Pre Vizsla.
They saw Death Watch members take down rusty old droids, making Artoo nervous.
"It's even worse than I thought."Ferus thought with a frown.
Lux, Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia went off the speeders.
"The boss will see you in there."Bo-Katan informed.
The four teenagers went inside the tent.
"Don't ruin my plan, okay?"Lux asked.
"Plan?"Ahsoka questioned."What plan?"
"This is a holotrace device."Lux stated, gesturing to the bracelet-like device around his wrist."It can identify the origin of any holo transmission, I knew if I accused Dooku of murder, I would be brought to face him, well, it worked and I now know Dooku's exact location, if Death Watch moves quick enough we can destroy him is that enough of a plan for you three?"
"This is not some idealistic political group!"Nadia replied strictly.
"They are right these thugs will take the information and kill you."Ferus commented.
"I knew you guys wouldn't understand."Lux said in shame.
"The Death Watch are murderers themselves!"Ahsoka protested."Sworn to destroy Jedi. You don't know what you're doing!"
"You're plan hasn't exactly been well thought out, Lux. Its too dangerous."Nadia declared with her arms folded."Especially me since my Master and I have dealt with them before and ruined their plans to take Mandalore away from Duchess Satine. If they knew-"
Lux quickly pressed his lips on Ahsoka while Ferus kissed Nadia, making her cheeks turn bright red.
Then the Death Watch leader, Pre Vizsla arrived in the tent with Bo-Katan.
"Am I interrupting something?"Pre Vizsla asked.
"No."Lux replied."Of course not."
"We were just..."Ferus said awkwardly.
Ahsoka frowned at Lux while Nadia blushed shyly and looked down to avoid from meeting Pre Vizsla's gaze.
"It's time to talk business."Pre Vizsla stated and removed his helmet."Tell your companion and your women to leave us."
"Of course."Lux replied.
Ferus left the room while Bo-Katan shoved Ahsoka and Nadia out of the tent.
"Now, give me what I want."Pre Vizsla commented.
Pre Vizsla sat down on a seat while Lux sat in a nearby crate.
"When I know that you will use it correctly."Lux responded.
"Don't toy with me, boy. You see this scar?"Pre Vizsla asked, gesturing the mark on his face."It was a parting gift from Count Dooku. If you question my resolve to destroy him again, I will give you one just like it."
Lux then brought out the holotrace.
"This device will tell you his location."Lux commented.
Lux stood up and handed the holotracer to Pre Vizsla.
"Good. That was painless, wasn't it?"Pre Vizsla asked as he and Lux left the tent."Now, let's celebrate."
Ahsoka and Nadia was put to work with a number of young female natives, who were kept by the Death Watch as slaves.
Bo-Katan shoved Nadia on the floor, making her chuckle as she left the tent.
"Try that again and I will-"Nadia snapped angrily.
Then a female Ming Po grabbed Nadia's shoulder before she could rush out of the tent.
"You don't want to make them angry."the female Ming Po said quietly."They are far from rational."
Ahsoka, Nadia and the female Ming Po sat on a bunch of crates.
"Believe me, you have no idea."Ahsoka chuckled."What's your name?"
"Tryla."the female Ming Po replied.
"I'm Ahsoka."Ahsoka answered.
"And I'm Nadia."Nadia commented."Where are you from?"
"We were kidnapped from a nearby town."Tryla exclaimed."We are a simple people, we trust easily and we were betrayed."
Then a male Death Watch member showed up in the tent.
"We feast."the male Death Watch member stated."Prepare the food, your masters are hungry."
Ahsoka, Nadia and Tryla looked at each other before preparing lunch for the Mandalorian terrorist group.
Ferus followed Artoo to where the Death Watch kept their batch of battle droids, whom they use for both target practice and cruel sport.
The disguised Jedi Knight smiled while watching as Artoo began to repair them.
Suddenly, Ferus became nervous when a female Mandalorian dressed in the suit of Death Watch known as Ursa Wren aimed her blaster behind his head.
Artoo watched in silence while being behind the damaged battle droids.
"Who are you?"Ursa questioned.
"I'm Fabian."Ferus answered, hiding his fear."I'm a close friend of Lux Bonteri."
Ursa simply removed her blaster from Ferus' head.
"Take my advice, kid, and pass it on to Senator Bonteri's and your women, don't wander around our camp."Ursa warned sharply."This isn't a playground and it will provoke us into attacking you."
"I understand, ma'am."Ferus answered.
Ferus walked away with Ursa while Artoo secretly continued fixing the damaged battle droids.
Later that Night...
The Death Watch was holding a celebration as Ahsoka, Nadia and the female slaves were giving them food.
Pre Vizsla, Lux and Ferus sat next to each other in the same table.
Ahsoka served a bowl of Tiingilar to Lux while Nadia gave Ferus a bowl of red gourd soup.
"Hungry?"Ahsoka asked with a fake smile, glaring at Lux."Careful not to choke on your stupidity."
Nadia glanced at Ferus with a malicious smile.
"Same with you, honey bunch."Nadia threatened with a dark smirk."Don't want to see you being fed to the wolves."
Ferus scoffed. "Don't tempt me, doll."
Ahsoka and Nadia then walked away from Pre Vizsla and their companions.
"I see your friend and women have fit in well."Pre Vizsla admitted, looking at Lux."Now, how will you fit in?"
"All I want is Dooku dead."Lux replied firmly.
Ferus looked at his childhood friend with a look mixed with worry and concern before drinking from his small bowl of red gourd soup.
"Vizsla."
Then Cheftain Pieter and two male Ming Pos arrived in the tent causing Pre Vizsla to stand up from his seat.
"Chieftain Pieter, I don't remember summoning you."Pre Vizsla responded.
"You've taken our women, stolen our food and threatened us for too long!"Chieftain Pieter declared angrily.
"Brave for you to come here with such bold words."Pre Vizsla admitted.
"You're no longer welcome here."Chieftain Pieter said firmly.
"Well, if our presence here isn't welcome, we'll make ready to leave."Pre Vizsla remarked.
This made the other Death Watch members let out evil chuckles.
"And you'll return our people to us?"Chieftain Pieter asked.
"Yes, sunrise tomorrow."Pre Vizsla lied."You have my word."
"Very well."Chieftain Pieter stated firmly."We'll be waiting."
Then the Chieftain of Ming Po Town and his two servants left the tent.
Lux smiled at Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia.
"You see?"Lux asked."They're not the butchers you make them out to be."
Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia glanced at each other with unsure looks on their faces.
The Next Morning...
The Death Watch and the four teenagers arrived into the village of Chieftain Pieter and his people.
"You have kept your word."Chieftain Pieter responded."We are very grateful for your understanding."
"I am a man of my word."Pre Vizsla answered and dragged Tryla to her grandfather's arms."Here is your granddaughter as promised."
However, Pre Vizsla then activated the Darksaber and stabbed Tryla at the back to kill her.
"No!"Chieftain Pieter screamed with a terrified look.
"Tryla!"Ahsoka and Nadia shouted in unison.
Ahsoka and Nadia rushed to the dying female Ming Po.
"Kill them!"Pre Vizsla ordered, glancing at his terrorist members."Kill them all!"
The members of Death Watch began to burn the village as the innocent people ran in panic.
Ferus watched the destruction in front of him in shock and disbelief.
Tryla looked at Ahsoka and Nadia as she began to die.
"Save them, Ahsoka, Nadia."Tryla whispered. "Save them, save my people."
Tryla the closed her eyes and died in Ahsoka's arms.
"Why?"Lux demanded."What are you doing?"
"Never let the weak tell you what to do."Pre Vizla said, putting his arm around Lux."Welcome to Death Watch."
Ferus watched the destruction in shock.
Seeing the houses go up in flame made Nadia suddenly remember the terrible memory of her family dying in the fire in their home, made something snap out of her.
Nadia flipped down and used the Force to take a staff before tossing straight to a Death Watch member, killing him.
Nadia removed her coat and goggles, making Ferus and Ahsoka follow her lead.
Together the three Jedi began to take down three more Death Watch members.
Nadia held up her staff as Pre Vizsla came down to cut it in half before dodging his attacks.
Two flying troops wrapped cables on Nadia's wrists as another was wrapped in her waist and she fell into the ground.
"Let go of me!"Nadia demanded.
Ferus admitted to tackle Pre Vizsla, only for cables to wrap around him and Ahsoka as well.
Pre Vizsla walked up to the three Jedi.
"Now what do we have here?"Pre Vizsla asked while looking at Nadia."I think we caught Skywalker's two Jedi sidekicks and Kenobi's brat."
Nadia gave Pre Vizsla an irritated grin.
"Aw, Vizsla, what took you so long to figure it out?"Nadia mocked."I thought you were smarter than this."
"Drag them back to camp."Pre Vizsla ordered.
Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia glared at Lux as they were dragged into the snow.
Later that Night...
In a tent, Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia were brought to the ground while two men held Lux's arms.
"Now, Senator Bonteri, this does not look good."Pre Vizsla taunted."And I mean at all. I asked you to join us in good faith and you bring Kenobi's brat along with Skywalker's two Jedi sidekicks into our camp."
"They weren't meant to be here."Lux replied."Please let them go."
"I'm afraid that's not an option."Pre Vizsla stated while taking out the Darksaber."I have unfinished business with Kenobi and his brat which means I want their bodies added to my trophy collection."
Both Ferus and Ahsoka became horrified, knowing Pre Vizsla was planning to kill Nadia.
"I believed you had honour, but you're just murderers!"Lux snapped angrily."No better than Dooku!"
"You call us murderers?"Pre Vizsla questioned."And yet it was your own lust for revenge that made you seek us out."
"I wanted justice for my mother's death."Lux admitted.
"And you shall have it."Pre Vizsla answered and brought his attention on Nadia."But the Jedi are no different from Dooku and these three shall pay in part for their crimes against Mandalore. Especially, Kenobi's brat."
Pre Vizsla activated his Darksaber, ready to kill Nadia, who glared at him in anger.
"So you see it's not murder at all."Pre Vizsla admitted."It's like you say it's justice."
"Now, Artoo!"Ferus ordered.
Artoo draws up smoke into the room, freeing the three Jedi and return their lightsabers allowing them to take down Vizsla's men.
Lux took down the men, who were holding him.
"Thanks, buddy."Ahsoka thanked with a smile.
Nadia had her two lightsabers activated, ready to fight Pre Vizsla.
Two Death Watch members attempted to aid Pre Vizsla, but he refused their help.
"Stop!"Pre Vizsla snapped, glancing at two of his men."Kenobi's brat is mine!"
"You four get to the ship."Nadia ordered, not looking at her companions."I have unfinished business with this clown."
Ferus gave her worried look at Nadia before following Ahsoka, Ferus and Artoo out.
Nadia began to have a blade fight with Pre Vizsla avoiding his slashes.
The Death Watch leader kicked Nadia out of the tent and the raven haired girl saw her companions with the repaired droids.
"I guess Artoo made some friends."Lux admitted with a smile.
The Death Watch members focused on taking down the droids while Ferus and Ahsoka fought the others.
Ferus secretly used the Force to push Ursa to a bunch of crates since he didn't want to kill her.
Lux and Artoo headed to the speeder car as Nadia continued her duel with Pre Vizsla.
Pre Vizsla tried to slash Nadia, but she leaped up and slashed his jetpack, but it was a small scratch.
"You missed, Aomori."Pre Vizsla said with a smirk.
"I didn't miss."Nadia replied coldly.
Pre Vizsla noticed his jetpack preparing to explode, making him remove it before he and Nadia went out of the way as it made a big explosion.
"Guys!"Lux called out."Come on!"
Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia went on the speeder as it took off.
"Don't let them escape!"Pre Vizsla ordered.
The four teenagers and Artoo took off in the speeder, but were followed by Bo-Katan and two more Death Watch members.
Ahsoka, Ferus and Nadia used their lightsabers to deflect the blasts.
But then Nadia placed away her lightsabers and used her Force Judgement to damage their jetpacks, sending them down into the snowy ground.
Ferus smirked at his girlfriend as Ahsoka patted Nadia's shoulder.
"Nice move."Ahsoka complemented.
"Why thank you."Nadia said with a chuckle.
Lux, Ferus, Ahsoka and Nadia managed to get back to their ship, take off and escape the planet.
Inside the Ship...
Ahsoka, Ferus, Nadia and Artoo went into the cockpit to prepare their trip back to Coruscant.
Artoo beeped at his companions.
"That's two I owe you."Ahsoka said with a smile."No one followed us. Good job, Artoo."
Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus sat down as Artoo beeped a response at them.
"What do you mean the escape pod has been activated?"Ferus demanded.
"Here we go again."Nadia scoffed.
Ahsoka gasped. "Lux!"
Ahsoka rushed out of the cockpit of the ship and went down to see Lux in the escape pod.
"Lux!"Ahsoka called out."Lux, what are you doing?"
"I can't go with you guys."Lux admitted."You know that, Ahsoka."
"But we can try to change things together."Ahsoka suggested.
"We make a pretty good team, don't we?"Lux asked.
Ahsoka looked down with a shy smile.
"Don't worry."Lux assured softly."We'll meet again, I promise and believe that."
"Be careful, Lux."Ahsoka warned.
