Chapter 46: Crisis on Naboo

Supreme Chancellor in peril!

After surviving the ordeals of 'The Box', Obi-Wan Kenobi, working undercover as assassin Rako Hardeen, is invited to join Count Dooku's plot against Chancellor Palpatine.

Working with a team of deadly bounty hunters, Obi-Wan travels to the planet of Naboo where the Chancellor will preside over the Festival of Light.

Now, as the Jedi Council and Count Dooku finalise their respective plans, a deadly confrontation seems inevitable.

In the Jedi Temple...

The members of the Jedi High Council along with Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia discussed the security measures for Chancellor Palpatine's visit on Naboo for its traditional Festival of Light.

"As you can see, we've mapped the Chancellor's route to and from the festival stage."Mace Windu stated, gesturing to the hologram of the Theed Royal Palace."We know where he'll be at every moment from the time we land on Naboo."

"What security measures are in place?"Plo Koon asked.

"The Naboo Royal Guard will have armed sentries at all entry points on the palace."Mace Windu replied."And the stage itself will be sealed off by a ray shield for the duration of the event."

"I see nothing here to worry about."Anakin admitted.

"With complacency comes vulnerability."Master Yoda commented."Yes, it is what we do not see that concerns me. A long time to plan his attack, Count Dooku has."

"Yes."Mace Windu said."We thought we'd have an advantage with Obi-Wan on the inside, but we've had no communication from him in days."

Nadia glared at Master Windu.

"My master will do his part."Nadia responded with a cold look."Let's make sure we do ours."

The raven haired girl then walked away earning concerned glances from Master Windu, Master Yoda, Anakin and Ahsoka.

Afterwards...

The Jedi shuttle landed in the city of Naboo known as Theed.

Two Shock Troopers came out of the shuttle's ramp followed by Chancellor Palpatine, Vice Chair Mas Amedda and Mace Windu.

Lastly, it was Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia that went out and followed their comrades.

Queen Neeyutnee, Sio Bibble, Padme, Bail and Ferus were waiting for them with two Senate Commandos.

The Queen of Naboo gave a nod to Chancellor Palpatine.

"Greetings, Your Majesty."Chancellor Palpatine greeted.

"Welcome home, Chancellor."Padme said."I'm thankful to the Jedi for bringing you here safely."

"Yes, Senator, it is good to be back, although I think the amount of security that has accompanied me is overkill."Chancellor Palpatine commented.

"With all due respect, Chancellor, where your safety is concerned there is no such thing as overkill."Mace Windu stated.

"So you keep insisting, Master Jedi."Chancellor Palpatine insisted."But I've grown tired of discussing it."

The Chancellor then walked away with the Queen and Mace Windu.

"Anakin, Ahsoka and Nadia, welcome to the festival."Ferus declared."You're all in to see an exciting event."

Nadia smirked at her boyfriend's reply.

"I've never seen the Festival of Light."Ahsoka admitted with a smile.

"Sounds like a big event."Nadia assumed.

"They're expecting a large crowd which means it will be difficult for Dooku to attack during the ceremony."Anakin exclaimed."That leaves the palace as the best opportunity for an ambush."

"Are you that certain an attack is imminent?"Padme asked with a hint of worry.

"I'm afraid so, which is why I'm making Ahsoka your second bodyguard to help Ferus protect yku."Anakin admitted.

Ahsoka smiled at Padme.

"At your service, my lady."Ahsoka said kindly.

"If there's trouble, Ahsoka and Ferus will get you, the Queen and the rest of your staff to safety."Anakin declared.

"What about you?"Nadia questioned.

"Hopefully, I'll be where I always am."Anakin answered.

Ahsoka smirked and glanced at Padme and Ferus.

"He means saving the day."Ahsoka assumed.

"Of course, he does."Padme said with a smile.

"His grand speciality."Ferus chuckled slightly.

Nadia glanced around the city of Theed, slowly admiring how peaceful the atmosphere was and the civilians seemed to enjoy living in it.

She then brought her attention on Anakin.

"Is this your third time in Naboo, right Anakin?"Nadia assumed.

"You could say that, kitty."Anakin replied."My first time coming here was during the Battle of Naboo which was also the final conflict of the Trade Federation's invasion on this planet and the second was my time as a bodyguard to Padme from assassins."

"Thought during the Battle of Naboo was also when Master Qui-Gon died?"Nadia asked.

Anakin frowned at the memory of the Jedi Master, he grew close in a short of time and believed him to be the Chosen One that will bring balance to the Force that was killed by Darth Sidious' former apprentice.

"Master Qui-Gon wanted to train me as a Jedi, but the Council actually refused since they thought I was vulnerable to the Dark Side of the Force."Anakin exclaimed."But Master Qui-Gon didn't give up on me and before he died he told Obi-Wan to train me after he became a Jedi Knight."

"I would've liked to have met Master Jinn."Nadia admitted.

"You would've learned a lot from his wisdom."Anakin assured.

Nadia nodded before she gave Anakin a slight curious look.

"I'm actually amazed to learn you went to your first space battle when you were still a nine year old boy."Nadia stated in awe."How did you do it?"

Anakin smirked at Nadia's question.

"You can probably guess I've been a more talented pilot long before you were even born."Anakin declared.

Nadia frowned. "Show off."

Later that Night...

It was time for the Festival of Light.

The Jedi stood near their seats as the Chancellor and the others were escorted to the stage.

"The stage is set."Anakin stated in his comlink."Activate the ray shield."

"Copy that, General Skywalker."the security guard replied.

Then a pale blue ray-shield surrounded the large area as Chancellor Palpatine stood up and walked towards the podium to begin his speech.

"It is an honour to be here for this momentous occasion."Chancellor Palpatine declared."The pride I feel for this planet cannot be put into words and tonight we celebrate that union!"

The crowd clapped at the Chancellor's declaration.

"Take a moment and look around this glorious city of yours."Chancellor Palpatine encouraged."It wasn't long ago this was all plasma mines, Naboo has indeed come a long way. But as we chart a bold course for the future, let us never forget our past!"

Then beautiful fireworks appeared in the sky making the huge crowd clap once again.

Nadia stared at the fireworks with an amazed look.

The firework display reminded her so much of the festivities that happened on Corellia, when she was still living there.

"Skywalker!"Mace Windu called out."The shield generator!"

Everyone notice the a male Parwan bounty hunter known as Derrown coming through the shield and grabbing the power source.

Anakin wasn't quick enough and the shield came down before the box exploded.

The crowed gasped in fright and started to panic at the sight.

Mace Windu and two Senate Commandos checked on Chancellor Palpatine, who had been knocked out by the blast.

"Alright, you two, take the Chancellor to that speeder and get him out of here."Mace Windu ordered.

Ahsoka and Ferus glanced at the crowd behind them.

"This way, Your Majesty, hurry!"Ahsoka stated.

"Everyone, follow us!"Ferus instructed.

Ahsoka and Ferus led Queen Neeyutnee, Padme, the other senators, Bibble and Typho out of the area and to safety.

Anakin used his lightsaber to slash Derrown, but the Parwan bounty hunter quickly electrified the Jedi Knight causing him to pass out.

Nadia quickly activated her lightsabers to block the laser blasts of Derrown before slashing his jet pack sending him to his death to the ground below.

She then rushed to check on Anakin as Mace Windu went up to them.

"Those tentacles pack quite a punch."Anakin muttered as he rubbed his head.

Nadia smirked. "Do they now?"

"Come on."Mace Windu instructed.

The three Jedi notice Embo (a Kyuzo male bounty hunter disguised as a Senate Commando) taking Chancellor Palpatine to a speeder, but they quickly surrounded the bounty hunter making him put his hands up.

Chancellor Palpatine walked up to Anakin.

"Chancellor, are you all right?"Anakin asked.

But Chancellor Palpatine punched Anakin in the face and revealed to be Twazzi, a Frenk female bounty hunter in disguise.

Anakin activated his lightsaber and pointed his glowing deep blue blade at Twazzi.

"Where is the Chancellor?"Anakin demanded with a cold tone.

Then Moralo Eval arrived on a speeder, signalling .

"Move it!"Moralo called out."Move it!"

Cad Bane (disguised as a male Neimoidian) took the real Chancellor Palpatine (disguised as a fainted Senate Commando) to the speeder as Mace Windu, Anakin and Nadia went after them.

"So long, Jedi!"Cad Bane declared with a salute.

Then the speeder took off as Mace Windu, Anakin and Nadia glared at him.

"I'm going after the Chancellor."Rako reported.

"Copy that, Obi-Wan."Mace Windu answered.

"I'll send you the coordinates and hold Bane there as long as I can."Rako stated.

A Moment After...

Cad Bane and Moralo Eval arrived to their destination with Chancellor Palpatine in their custody.

"This is the rendezvous point."Moralo said."Dooku said he would meet us here. What did I tell you, Bane? My plan worked to perfection."

Cad Bane threw Chancellor Palpatine to the floor.

"It wasn't your plan."Cad Bane said coldly and pointed a blaster at the Chancellor."It was my execution of your plan. Come on, get up."

Chancellor Palpatine stood up as the two bounty hunters walked behind him.

"How dare you disrespect Moralo Eval!"Moralo growled.

"Pipe down."Cad Bane retorted and notice Count Dooku wasn't around."Where's Dooku? I thought you said he'd meet us here?"

"That was the plan."Moralo said.

Then Rako arrived holding a small blaster.

"Hardeen, you're not supposed to be here yet."Cad Bane informed.

"I don't want to be double-crossed and left behind again."Rako reminded bitterly.

"I think we've all been double-crossed."Cad Bane replied."Dooku's a no-show."

"What do you mean?"Moralo asked."What do we do with the Chancellor now?"

"We'll ransom him ourselves."Cad Bane answered."If Dooku won't pay us, somebody else will."

"I'm afraid the Chancellor's coming with me."Rako stated while pointing his blaster at Bane.

Rako then began fighting Cad Bane and Moralo, but luckily overpowered the two bounty hunters.

Then Anakin, Nadia, Mace Windu and Shock Troopers arrived in the scene.

The three Jedi pointed their lightsabers at the criminals.

"Please!"Moralo begged."Do not kill Moralo Eval!"

The Shock Troopers grab a hold of Cad Bane and Moralo.

"Take him and Bane into custody and make sure the Chancellor is returned safely to the palace."Mace Windu stated and looked at Rako."You did a good job, Obi-Wan."

Cad Bane became furious upon learning Rako was actually Obi-Wan in a clever disguise.

"Kenobi! I should have known!"Cad Bane scowled."Something smelled wrong about you from the start!"

"Yes, well, spending so much time with you was no reward either."Rako admitted.

"Reward!"Cad Bane growled."I'll give you a reward, when I plug you full of laser bolts!"

Then the Shock Trooper took Cad Bane away from Rako and Mace Windu.

"Such a pleasant fellow."Rako complemented."I hope this was all worth it."

"We saved the Chancellor."Mace Windu admitted, putting his hand on his shoulder."That's the important thing."

The Next Morning...

Chancellor Palpatine and the Jedi prepare to return to Coruscant, even though the kidnapping was successfully thwarted.

"Once again, you have all distinguished yourselves in the eyes of the Republic."Padme said kindly."The people of Naboo are in your debt."

"It's all part of the job, my lady."Anakin stated.

Padme smiled at her secret husband before she, Ferus, Ahsoka and the rest walked away.

"I'm not sure I agree with your orders to send the rest of the security detail back to Coruscant."Mace Windu said.

"Now that the threat has passed, I think Anakin and Nadia are all the security I need."Chancellor Palpatine admitted.

Anakin and Nadia were walking behind the group and speaking with 'Rako'.

"You look terrible."Nadia sneered."But I can tell it's not because of those awful red tattoos in your disguise."

"Being a criminal's not easy work."Rako replied.

"If I'd known what was going on, I could've helped you."Anakin commented."Too bad the Council didn't trust me."

Nadia glanced at Anakin.

"I don't think the Council would trust anyone beside their own members, Anakin."Nadia commented with a frown."Besides, you're a Jedi Knight and I'm still a Padawan."

Rako was silent for a moment before he started speaking to Anakin and Nadia.

"Anakin, Nadia, it was my decision to keep the truth from both of you."Rako admitted. "I knew if you two were convinced I was dead, Dooku would believe it as well."

Nadia's eyes widen at Obi-Wan's respond.

She couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Her own master set his own death and didn't bother telling her the truth.

He lied to her.

"Your decision?"Anakin questioned.

"Look, I know I did some questionable things, but I did what I had to do."'Rako' explained."I hope you can understand that."

"You lied to me! How many other lies have I been told by the Council?"Anakin demanded in anger."And how do you know that you even have the whole truth?"

The Jedi Knight then went away as the raven haired girl focused on her disguised master with a firm look.

"I bet you planned to keep your little secret from me too, isn't?"Nadia asked with a frown."Even if it meant hurting Anakin and Ahsoka's feelings as well?"

"Young one, I only had to do the things I was told to do."'Rako' replied.

On hearing this, Nadia lost her temper.

"What you think? I was stupid that I wouldn't understand what you were planning?! I am your own Padawan! Not some kind of doll for you to play with!"Nadia scowled, her voice mixed with betrayal and anger."Don't you realise how hurt I was thinking I lost you?! So were Anakin, Ahsoka and Satine!"

"Nadia..."'Rako' said sadly.

"Don't bother saying a word to me!"Nadia snapped with a glare."My Grandmother Valerie was exactly right about the Jedi back in Coruscant! Most of you are really emotionless machines, who don't really give a damn who they hurt!"

After her outburst, Nadia then walked away to follow the others in complete anger as 'Rako' let out a sigh and went his own way.

Later that Night...

Anakin and Nadia were escorting Chancellor Palpatine in the hallway of the Theed Royal Palace which was also known as the Jewel of Naboo and the royalty's seat of power on the planet.

Nadia smiled slightly at the magnificent edifice located on the edge of a cliff in Naboo's capital city, Theed.

Filled with vast, cavernous corridors crafted by Naboo's own artisans, the Royal Palace was a showcase of the great sculptors and craftsmen of the planet. It also overlooked the capital city's beautiful cliffs and waterfalls.

Perhaps, if she and Ferus had a day off, they would secretly go to Naboo and explore around Theed.

Even meet her boyfriend's adopted family; the Naberries?

The Padawan of Obi-Wan snapped out of her thoughts when the Chancellor spoke up.

"We will leave as soon as Queen Neeyutnee's banquet is over."Chancellor Palpatine stated."I also want to say goodbye to Senator Amidala. She has been a very gracious host."

"Padme didn't mention a banquet to me."Anakin replied.

"Perhaps she meant it as a surprise."Chancellor Palpatine suggested.

"Well, I like surprises."Nadia admitted with a slight smirk.

"I must say, the lengths the Jedi will go to is nothing short of incredible."Chancellor Palpatine commented with a smile and glanced at Anakin."I assume the brilliant plan to disguise Obi-Wan Kenobi was yours."

"No, it wasn't, sir."Anakin answered."I was in the dark as much as you were."

"So was I."Nadia added with a bitter tone."Though it isn't my first time in this sort of situation by the Council."

"Really? Interesting."Chancellor Palpatine said."I was under the impression the Jedi always worked as a team."

Before Nadia could respond back, the doors of the banquet room opened and revealed Count Dooku sitting in the far end of the table.

"Welcome."Count Dooku greeted with a smirk.

Then the door closed behind Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine and Nadia as two Magna guards with electric staffs surrounded them.

"My gracious, it's a trap."Chancellor Palpatine said in shock.

"Chancellor, stay back!"Nadia warned.

Nadia moved Chancellor Palpatine away from the Magna guards' electric staffs as Anakin glared at Dooku and pointed at him.

"You should've quit while you were still alive, Dooku!"Anakin scowled.

Count Dooku smirked at Anakin and Nadia.

"Fighting off the entire Jedi Security Force would have been difficult."Count Dooku stated smugly as he stood up on and activated his lightsaber."But now that they are gone, defeating you and young Aomori alone will be an easy task."

Nadia scoffed at the Count of Serenno's reply with a unfazed look.

"Don't bet on that."Nadia retorted.

Both Anakin and Nadia activated their lightsabers to fight the two Magna guards and taking them down quickly.

"Chancellor, get out of here!"Anakin instructed.

"Good idea."Chancellor Palpatine said.

But when Chancellor Palpatine rushed to the door, a third Magna guard appeared and grab a hold of him.

"Unhand me!"Chancellor Palpatine demanded.

Anakin began to fight Count Dooku, who blocked his attacks and then forced pushed him into the wall hardily.

Nadia rushed forward and started having a duel fight with the Count of Serenno, who used his blade to block her attacks.

"I sense so much hate and anger within you, young Aomori."Count Dooku declared."Perhaps you could use a new master?"

"No thank you, Master Yoda's biggest mistake!"Nadia snapped.

Count Dooku began throwing chairs and dinner materials at Nadia.

However, the raven haired girl leapt back and quickly slashed them away with Anakin's help as Chancellor Palpatine secretly watched in amusement.

The two Jedi continued fighting Count Dooku until they were in the hallway and into a flight of stairs.

Nadia forced pushed the Count of Serenno, giving Anakin the opportunity to block his lightsaber with Count Dooku's and grab a hold of his neck.

But Count Dooku then fired Force Lightning at the two Jedi which made Anakin being pushed away and fell in the ground in pain.

However, Nadia dropped her lightsabers and was stumbled a few steps back as she consumed the lightning energy and used her hands to fire her Force Judgement at the Count of Serenno which made him retreat with Chancellor Palpatine from getting hit.

Then 'Rako' arrived while holding his lightsaber and checked on Anakin.

"Are you all right?"Rako asked.

"Come on!"Anakin demanded.

"Dooku has the Chancellor!"Nadia retorted.

Nadia picked up her lightsabers as she, Anakin and 'Rako' headed to the entrance where Count Dooku was taking Chancellor Palpatine in his shuttle.

Anakin duelled Count Dooku while Nadia slashed the third Magna guard as 'Rako' brought Chancellor Palpatine out of the shuttle.

Then the Count of Serenno forced pushed Anakin back, but he landed safely back in the balcony of the palace.

"Well done, Master Kenobi."Count Dooku remarked."You are a worthy adversary, I cannot say the same about your former apprentice and your new one."

Chancellor Palpatine, Rako, Anakin and Nadia all glared at Count Dooku as the doors of the shuttle closed and it took off causing Sidious' pawn to make his escape from Naboo.

Then Padme, Ferus and a few Naboo Royal Guards showed up in the area.

"Chancellor, are you all right?"Padme asked.

Anakin helped Chancellor Palpatine up in his feet.

"Yes, thanks again to the heroics of the Jedi."Chancellor Palpatine replied."That's the second time today."

"We specialise in heroics, Chancellor."Rako admitted.

"As long as I live, no harm will ever come to you, your excellency."Anakin stated.

"You can count off me as well, sir."Nadia assured kindly.

Chancellor Palpatine smiled at Anakin and Nadia.

"Well, here's to your long and prosperous lives, Anakin and Nadia."Chancellor Palpatine praised."One shudders to think where the galaxy would be without the Jedi."

Nadia smiled gratefully at Chancellor Palpatine's respond while Ferus secretly gave the man a small yet suspicious glare as they all went back inside the Theed Royal Palace.
