Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from TVD and TO; I only possess my original character and the story concept. By the way, I utilized an AI, ChatGPT, to assist with my grammar and editing, as I don't have a beta reader. With that said, let's dive into the story!
During my early years of this second life, I was like a curious sponge, soaking up everything around me. As I transitioned from baby steps to those adorable toddler wobbles, I'd tumble and let out playful giggles. I had to keep it age-appropriate, you see. Can't go around acting too grown-up, or the adults might suspect something's amiss. The witches, in particular, could react in various ways – either negatively or with indifference, depending on their perception.
It took me a couple of days to regain my eyesight fully. Those moments of nearly being blind certainly made me appreciate having perfect vision. It got me thinking – maybe I could come up with a cure for nearsightedness, especially for those folks who wear glasses. I'd make a fortune with that idea, though it might render eyeglasses useless. But not everyone's quick to embrace change, right? Tch... gotta deal with those skeptics!
Talking was tough at first. I'd babble and gurgle, trying to make sense, but I was just a babbling baby. My family would smile and say encouraging things as I attempted to communicate my needs. I really did my best, but, well, baby tongues have a mind of their own. Stupid baby limitations!
Every little thing I did was a cause for celebration in my dad's book. Whether I was moving my feet, wiggling my arms, or turning my head, he'd cheer me on like it was a major victory. Trying to sit up, playing with my toys, or even attempting to crawl, he'd throw a little party each time. But when it came to taking my first steps, he went all out. Jumping for joy and recording the whole thing like it was some blockbuster movie. Dads, right? Is my daddy the only one like this, or is it a universal dad thing? Anyway, I can't complain. It's pretty awesome to be showered with so much love and attention by my new dad.
Among the trio in my family, I share a special bond with my daddy and grams. They're by my side every waking moment, constantly engaging with me. Daddy Rudy has a thing for educational books. He believes it's never too early to start learning, and he's convinced that even as a baby, I'm too smart for kiddie literature. Truth be told, I don't mind. I'd rather read grown-up stuff and I've learned a lot from it.
Grams, Sheila, on the other hand, offers a different kind of wonder. She sits me on her lap, showing me mysterious symbols and artifacts, spinning tales about their significance as if they were bedtime stories. She educates me about magical things, treating them as mere stories, and I'm truly grateful for that. It seems like the canon Bonnie was exposed to magic at a young age but didn't bother to remember.
My mother, Abby, on the other hand, doesn't seem overly enthusiastic about motherhood. While I know she loves me, she keeps her distance, as if trying to protect me from something by not getting too close. I can't help but wonder about her intentions, especially because of my peculiar mind-reading ability. It leaves me feeling slightly resentful. Why not spend more time with your kid if you think you might have to send her away? The Abby from the canon and the one in my present seem to share the same approach, and I hope being an idiot isn't a family trait.
So, you know, mind-reading is apparently one of the perks of my powers. I stumbled upon this ability around eight months after I was born. I had tried accessing my magic earlier, but it was like trying to squeeze water from a rock – nothing doing. So, I had been working on mastering my motor skills and trying to move my little body the way I wanted, ya know, typical baby stuff.
But one day, I was just so dang frustrated. Hungry as a horse and no one was in my room. I didn't want to scream or cry, so I decided to have a little mind tantrum, imagining my dad in some kind of no-escape situation and giving him a piece of my baby mind like, "I'm starving, and why didn't you feed me on time?" Suddenly, like magic, the door swings open, and there's my dad, looking all panic-stricken. I'm still mad at him, so in my frustration, I made one of my stuffed animals go airborne and nearly smack him in the face. Well, that got him hollering for my mom and grams in a mix of confusion and hysteria. Fun times, right?
So, on that fateful day, my family and I discovered I had some Professor Xavier vibes going on. I unlocked two powers: telepathy, which is all about diving into people's minds, and telekinesis, the power to boss stuff around with my mind. I gotta tell you, it was quite the shocker. I never thought I'd have these abilities, but hey, I was over the moon to finally have some powers, even if they weren't the magical kind. It was still pretty darn cool.
The reactions from my family were a real hoot, at least from my perspective. Dad went completely bonkers, thinking I was way too tiny to be packing that kind of power, and he was giving me a piece of his mind for those mental images I was flinging around. He seriously believed he was losing it. Mom, on the other hand, was a mix of shocked and playful, giving her husband a hard time about it. Now, Grams, our family's seasoned witch, she just stood there with this wise smile like she'd seen it all before. "Well, isn't that something?" she said with a proud twinkle in her eye. "Looks like our Bonnie's going to be one heck of a witch." It sure was an eventful day for all of us.
As I grew from a baby to a toddler, my grands noticed my magical powers kick in because I was always working on my psychic skills. It wasn't on purpose; I was just trying to get better. So, my grandma and I would hang out in the attic for hours, surrounded by old spell books, cool artifacts, and all the stories about the Bennet witches. And my mom, Abby, was super patient in teaching me how to cast spells, the importance of herbs and potions, and all the secret supernatural stuff only witches really get.
They got me into all these cool traditions, like doing powerful rituals for the equinox and solstice. Even my dad, who's a bit of a worrywart, would join in. These traditions helped me get a grip on my magic and understand my connection to nature. My parents and my grandma hammered it into me that keeping my magic a secret was super important, and they told me again and again to use it responsibly and quietly, even though I already got the message.
Thinking about it, there's this episode in the show where Bonnie spills the beans to Elena about her magic. Personally, I think that was a bit of a dumb move. It basically told Elena that she was the bee's knees, and it turned Bonnie into Elena's go-to witch who couldn't say no to her, like her personal fix-it wizard. Ugh, forget about Elena. That stuff won't happen unless I become friends with her, which, let's face it, is a big fat NEVER.
Well, my dad, Rudy, was totally freaked out at first. He was all gung-ho about protecting me, just like he was with Bonnie in the show. He's all about keeping me safe, especially 'cause I'm still a kid. He's worried about what could go wrong with my magical powers and the chance of bumping into other supernatural creatures. He's heard that vampires and werewolves like to hassle witches for their powers, so he figured he had to do something to keep me out of trouble.
My early powers sure changed things for Rudy. I guess you could say my dad, Rudy, had a career shift. He worked full time from home and turned his office into a proper workspace, not just a home office. He only headed to his company's office when there were important meetings or something like that. Here's the kicker: turns out, they're actually pretty well-off because my dad owns his own journalism company. That's something the show never really emphasized or revealed.
But when he wasn't working, he got into learning martial arts and making weapons to take on the supernatural. My grams was all for it and supported his efforts. He even built this shed that grams cast boundary spells on, and it's right next to the house. Inside, there's an underground gym with all his weapons, and it also leads to a safety bunker. So, yeah, my dad's got this whole superhero setup going on. However, my mom couldn't stop bugging him about the risks, which really got on his nerves. Their constant arguments? Well, let's just say they caused a bit of tension in the house.
As I'm about to hit five and that dreaded date with Mikael approaches, it's tough not to think I might have to say goodbye to my mom unless things change. I've tried getting closer to her, especially during my parents' arguments, but it's like she's hell-bent on keeping up her act. If this keeps up, I'll have to say my farewells. It's just adding to my resentment, and I can't help but feel a bit annoyed with Elena too. She really seems to be the source of all my troubles.
Not long after, the adults decided to organize a playdate for us kids. I'd already spent time with the others individually and had a great time with Caroline, Tyler, Matt, Jeremy, and even Vicky, just as I'd hoped. However, Elena was a different story.
The parents wanted me and Elena to be friends, but it all fell apart when she pushed me into something I didn't want. She ended up in tears and tried to blame me, but I didn't let that slide. I cranked up the drama and exposed her as a liar.
After all was said and done, the parents and the other kids sided with me. Elena's parents had to console her, but I could tell they were more inclined to believe my side of the story, which probably meant she'd face some consequences. A win for me, I guess. The other kids had witnessed Elena trying to push me into things I didn't want to do, so they supported my version of events. It might look like a petty squabble or me bullying her, but I felt the need to address her spoiled, bossy, and selfish behavior before it got out of hand. My goal was to keep her from turning into the canon Elena. It might just make my life a tad easier, you know?
If, and I'm talking a colossal "if" here, Elena undergoes a transformation and turns out to be unlike the canon Elena, perhaps we could be friends. But there's always the chance she'll remain true to her canon self, especially once the Salvatores enter the picture and become her loyal subjects.
Then the playdate arrived, and as if on cue, Mikael made his grand entrance. The canon events unfolded right before my eyes. My mother did exactly as she had in the original storyline—desiccated Mikael and stashed his body in a sealed coffin to keep him incapacitated. She concealed the coffin in a cemetery in Charlotte, North Carolina. Unfortunately, this act drained her of her magic, rendering her a powerless human.
~Timeskip~ hours later~
Abby was in the middle of packing her stuff, probably to take off, when out of nowhere, tiny arms wrapped around her left leg, accompanied by a chorus of heartfelt tears – and guess who it was? Little Bonnie. Yep, yours truly. I had to make my stand because there was no way I was going to let my mother leave without a fight.
"Mommy, why are you packing your clothes? Where are you going? Don't go!" I cried out, faking my distress. In my mind, I was getting impatient, wondering where my father was when I needed him most. "Daddy?! Daddy!"
"BONNIE!" Rudy yelled in a panic as he rushed inside the master bedroom, "What's wrong, princess? Wait... What are you doing, Abby?" He asked when he noticed what his wife was doing. "Why are you packing your clothes? Where are you going?"
"Nothing," mommy said at first, her smile forced as she looked at my daddy, sadness lingering in her eyes. But then, realizing she couldn't evade the truth, she finally admitted, "I can't stay here. I have to go."
"Why?" daddy asked, looking both perplexed and concerned as he tried to understand what his wife was telling him.
Mommy gave up trying to pry me off, and I continued to cling to her, fake sobbing. "I lost my powers when I desiccated that vampire to protect the kids, even though he seemed fixated on Miranda's girl. But I had to do it."
Daddy Rudy walked over, taking her hands. "So, you lost your magic. Why does that mean you have to leave?"
"You just don't get it," Mommy Abby mumbled, turning away from him. I released my grip on my mother, plopped down on the bed, and watched them, my face reflecting my worry as I began unpacking her clothes.
"Then help me understand!" Daddy Rudy implored, gently grabbing mommy. "If you're worried about us, you don't have to. I can protect us myself."
"How?!" Mommy practically yelled, exasperated. "You're just a regular HUMAN, and I've lost my magic. I don't want you tangled up in all this supernatural mess. Let me leave for all our sakes."
"Why do you think I bothered with martial arts, honey? Just for a little exercise or a hobby?" daddy quipped with a hint of amusement. "And our safety? In case you forgot, we're already knee-deep in the supernatural world," he said, his patience mingling with a trace of incredulity. "Your mother's a WITCH, and our daughter is well on her way to becoming one. As for me, don't you worry – I can handle vampires."
Mommy's face twisted in shock. In the background, Grams remained silent, her gaze fixed on my parents. "What? How? What happened? Are you okay?" Mommy rushed to Daddy, worry evident as she inspected him for any injuries or bruises. She cared deeply for him, despite their occasional arguments.
"I'm good, see?" Daddy reassured her, showing off his unscathed body. "The other day, apart from the one you desiccated, a lone vampire thought I'd make a tasty snack during my run. But, I took care of it. I always have some weapons on hand, and Sheila enchanted my watch with supernatural protection. It deflected his first attack, and I staked him when he let his guard down," he said, sounding a bit proud. "So, those martial arts I'd practice, which you used to complain about, came in pretty handy, huh?"
I could tell that my mommy found it hard to believe daddy, but my grams confirmed his story. She was the one who helped him with the vampire's corpse.
"I've made all sorts of weapons that can handle vampires and even werewolves, and they've been powered up by Sheila," daddy continued, a smile on his face. He shot a grateful glance at grams before turning back to mommy, who still wore a worried expression.
"If you're concerned about other witches, don't be. Sheila has helped me create powerful weapons, devices, anti-magic spells, and enchanted metals. She's also crafted accessories that provide protection against witches and other supernaturals, like my watch," he explained. With a loving expression, he gently cupped mommy's face.
"Consider this, darling. If a mere human like me can kill a vampire, there's no reason why you can't do the same. Your magic will return, I'm sure of it. But for now, let me help you," he said with reassurance.
"I'm just so useless right now," Mommy said, tears streaming down her face, while Daddy tried to wipe them away. "I don't want you guys to get hurt."
With all the innocence of a child, I wrapped my arms around my mother and said, "Mommy, don't worry, I'm here. I'll grow up to be a strong witch, and I'll protect everyone, I promise." I spoke with unwavering determination. I knew they might see it as just a child's promise, but I meant every word. I was determined to protect my family, unlike the canon Bonnie. I wouldn't lose them in this new life of mine.
Daddy joined in the hug, wrapping his arms around both Mommy and me. He whispered soothingly, "Shh... you're not useless, and we know you want us safe, dear," Daddy reassured my Mommy. "Believe me when I say that we can be safe. We'll do everything to stay safe. I'll help you practice any martial arts you choose, Bonnie as well, and even Sheila if she wants to."
"Yeah, mommy," I chimed in cheerfully, a newfound hope that my mommy would stay with us blooming inside me. My grams smiled at me and my parents, giving her silent approval to the idea.
"We're gonna fortify this place against any supernatural threats, honey. Trust me, no one, not even those with a hint of malice, will dare come close. Sheila and our little girl are all in," Daddy said confidently, a warm smile on his face. Mommy had visibly relaxed and was sharing a smile with him.
"I guess you won't let me leave, will you?" Mommy Abby said softly, gazing at her husband with affection in her eyes.
"Never," Daddy said firmly. "Despite us butting heads over the years, my feelings for you have remained constant." He looked at her lovingly as well.
As my grams led me out of the bedroom, I glanced back at my parents and saw the strong love that still existed between them. It struck me that the original storyline might not have portrayed their relationship accurately. I suppose Rudy didn't have the chance to stop Abby from leaving, considering she left without informing him, and he received divorce papers later. Any feelings they once had for each other must have faded over time. It looks like I can cross "stop mommy from leaving" off my list. Mission accomplished! On to the next item on my agenda.
I decided to start by strengthening my magic. In my playroom, amidst a whirlwind of toys, I focused on honing my powers, moving them with my mind. Daddy had gifted me Lego blocks, which I used my telekinesis to levitate and build precarious towers. After constructing them, I'd reanimate my toy soldiers and let them engage in epic battles. Daddy often joined in, encouraging my imaginative play, and even had me organize mini fighting competitions with his action figures, to Mommy's chagrin when she found out.
Teatime with my stuffed animals became an exciting affair when I brought them to life with my powers. Grams was entertained by my magical practice and never scolded me; she understood that strengthening my magic was essential for me. One time, grams even gave me a delicate purple crystal amulet. She said it's a family heirloom but didn't give it to my mom, explaining that each amulet corresponds to one person in the family, and this one was meant for me. According to grams, this amulet would amplify my abilities when I needed it most and serve as a conduit for my powers. I will certainly treasure this amulet as a symbol of the Bennett legacy, a reminder of our bloodline. It's become my most cherished possession, second only to my family.
Lately, I've been experimenting with elemental magic, specifically fire and wind. One time, while attempting to conjure a simple gust of wind, I accidentally unleashed a mini-tornado in our living room. Papers, toys, and even my parents' hair were sent into a chaotic whirlwind. It was a hilarious mess that took some effort and teamwork to clean up, and my family couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all. But hey, I'm determined to master these elements, just like Aang from "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Another magical skill I've been working on mastering is teleportation. Of course, I started with something simple and less risky. I definitely didn't want to end up accidentally teleporting myself across the globe. So, I began by practicing with my toys.
One particularly memorable incident involved me attempting to teleport a toy from one side of my room to the other. However, my mastery of this spell was still a work in progress, and I hadn't quite nailed down the precision. Instead of the toy, I accidentally teleported my cat to the top of a tall tree just outside our house. The look of surprise on the cat's face as she found herself perched in the tree was priceless. My family had to come to the rescue to reverse the spell, all while trying not to burst into laughter.
With time, I finally mastered teleportation, and I was pretty proud of it. My family reminded me to use this power responsibly and only when necessary. And soon, I would use it for my next exciting mission, although I had to wait for just the right time to put my newfound teleportation skills to the test. I can't wait to complete my next "Mission: Impossible."
After that "mommy-leaving" scare, my mom and dad started practicing martial arts like karate, judo, jiujitsu, and taekwondo together at a nearby gym. They practically go there almost every day, but they still make sure to spend time with me and manage their work. They've even started learning kendo to get a grip on sword techniques. Now, when they practice knife throwing and shooting guns, it's all done in our underground safety bunker. You wouldn't believe it, but that bunker is like a mini-arsenal with all sorts of weapons. It's like my family is getting ready for a zombie apocalypse anytime.
One day, I asked if I could join them, but they told me to wait until I was a little older. However, they did begin teaching me the basics of kendo and some other martial arts that my small body could handle. Even grams joined in. It became a fun family bonding activity, and I didn't mind at all. I'm growing stronger, both in magic and physically.
Years later, when I turned 8, it was time for my own "mission impossible." By this age, I had mastered all the magical abilities I needed for this mission. I had gone over my plan countless times; I couldn't afford any mistakes. This mission had been in the making since I was a baby.
The opportunity came when my parents took me for a checkup. Instead of heading to our usual clinic, they took me to the Gilberts' clinic. Yes, we were still friends with the Gilberts. Just because their daughters didn't get along didn't mean our families couldn't maintain their friendship. Plus, I was good friends with their son, which made it even easier to stay connected.
While we were at the clinic, my parents decided to leave me alone with the doctor because I had childishly complained that I was old enough to handle a checkup on my own. After numerous pleas and whining, they agreed to let me stay alone with Dr. Grayson Gilbert, who was a sadist in my opinion.
My checkup was nearly finished when an important phone call interrupted the process. I couldn't help but think, "Wow, what luck!"
The sadistic doctor instructed me to sit still and wait for him while he finished his phone call. I seized the opportunity and used a spell to make the floor transparent so I could see if my mission had arrived, and there he was. I thought to myself, "Mission impossible is a go tonight!" with great satisfaction and then canceled the spell.
A few seconds later, the doctor returned and completed the checkup, which yielded good results. We left, and I received a lollipop for my good behavior. Little did he know, I was quite the troublemaker myself.
We went to the clinic in the morning, which meant I had a chance to nap in the afternoon. Hey, I'm just a kid, don't judge! When night fell, I waited for midnight when everyone would be asleep to launch my mission. After creating a decoy body to make it seem like I was sleeping, I teleported to my destination: the Gilbert clinic.
My teleportation ability works differently from the apparition in Harry Potter; it's completely silent, more like fading in and out of the scene. This allowed me to enter the clinic without alerting the cop patrolling outside. Inside, I spotted an alarm on the door and a CCTV camera in the corner. I cursed my oversight but quickly disabled both, then cast a noise-cancelling ward that only affected sounds but not voices.
With that done, I began ransacking the place, taking valuable items. I stashed everything in my Bag of Holding, a magical item inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and Harry Potter books. The bag had the incredible ability to swallow anything without ever gaining weight. It was a thief's dream come true.
I proceeded to the basement, where I found my target, not forgetting to grab a couple of blood bags for the vampire. "There he is," I thought, a mix of excitement and sadness washing over me. He appeared drained, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. "What did they do to him? Poor Enzo. I'll set you free, just wait!" Enzo, the vampire I aimed to rescue, was chained to the wall. His hands and feet were both shackled, pulled apart from each other.
The vampire sensed my presence, most likely through his heightened sense of smell, and looked up. His face had shifted into a vampire's visage, but he appeared so weak that he couldn't do much more than stare at me. In a rough, hoarse voice, he spoke, "What does a little girl like you doing in a place like this this late?" Curiosity shone in his eyes.
Many ideas crossed my mind, but I settled on a mysterious and sympathetic response to his situation. "I saw you in a vision. You've been held captive and tortured for experimentation purposes for so many years. I'm here to free you from it," I explained. Enzo gazed at me with a mixture of passivity and a glimmer of hope. I knew it wouldn't be easy to earn his trust, so I sweetened the deal. "I'm not asking for anything except that you don't harm me after I release you from your chains. I'll even throw in a daylight earring."
I'd chosen to create an earring, wanting to stand out from other witches. I'd learned the daylight spell through countless hours of studying grimoires, and fortunately, grams hadn't noticed or didn't comment on it. "Do we have a deal?" I added, aware that vampires, in particular, were hard to win over.
Enzo remained silent for a moment and then replied with a serious tone, "We have a deal. Please release me, little girl."
I checked his thoughts to make sure he was on board with our deal, and upon finding only pure thoughts of freedom in his mind, I released all of his chains and handed him the blood bags. However, before he could leave, I said, "If you want to go now, please unlock the outside door and open it normally. I need to make it look like a burglary happened here. The cops will search every corner, and that's the cover story we want."
I handed him the earring, a silver hoop with a lapiz lazuli stone, and he immediately put it on his right ear. Surprisingly, he didn't leave right away; instead, he stood there calmly. It seemed like he was waiting for me to finish up my business there.
I didn't mind him waiting, so I went around finishing up the scene. I threw two dolls on the floor and began chanting. The dolls transformed into lifelike figures, molding into human shapes. I made them look like dead humans with bite marks on their necks. Placing one near where Enzo was chained and the other just above the stairs, I scattered a couple of medications in different bags and some valuables I didn't need to have with me, which they supposedly had stolen. I gathered up the blood bags and cleaned up any blood spills on the floor. I used magic to conceal the spills under the faux bodies I'd created, making it seem like there had been a struggle. After I was done in the basement, I repeated the process for the scene above the stairs. Throughout all of this, Enzo watched me with a mix of amusement and wonder.
I then set everything on fire, making it appear as if it was due to an electrical malfunction. Fortunately, the buildings surrounding the clinic were not residential, so there was no risk of anyone getting hurt by the fire. It would also take a while before anyone noticed what had happened. I was curious to see their reaction later on.
After checking for any patrolling cops, we calmly left the clinic. I unlocked the door using my telekinesis, canceled the noise-canceling ward, and erased any traces of my magical presence in the area, including the basement. Luckily, no one here had any knowledge of my family's witch abilities, and I was confident that the Augustine's only focused on vampires.
We watched from a safe distance as the clinic and the surrounding buildings burned to the ground, while the efforts of the cops and firemen to save them proved unsuccessful. It was unfortunate for the shop owners, but sometimes a "Mission Impossible" required a bit of destruction to achieve success. Enzo was safe, and I couldn't help but pat myself on the back for a job well done.
I turned to the vampire who had been silently observing me and the fire from a distance. "So, where will you go now?" I asked curiously. "By the way, it's the year 2000. Take some time to get acquainted with the world around you, especially recent events. You're free now, and you deserve to enjoy it."
Enzo just smiled warmly at me and asked, "What if I choose to stay?"
"I don't mind at all," I replied casually, "Though you might have to find your own place to stay if you choose to remain here. I'm just 8, after all. You could also try to locate your friend who escaped years ago. It's up to you."
Enzo chuckled at my care-free attitude, though his eyes darkened slightly at the thought of his friend. "I'm going to find someone first, and then maybe..." he trailed off, lost in thought.
"A word of advice," I mentioned as I got ready to teleport back home. "If you decide to find your friend, remember that he turned it off, and he doesn't know." Then I teleported away.
"Odd witch but oh so talented," Enzo chuckled as he disappeared into the night.
~Back to Bonnie~
"I hope he took my advice," I thought casually as I drifted off to sleep after vanishing my faux body and cleaning myself up, my mission complete.
Chapter finally done. However, this is only part 1 of her childhood. The next chapter will be coming soon. I'm excited to speed things up, but I can't. I have to finish the childhood arc first before moving on to the pilot episode.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment. I really appreciate the likes, follows, and favoriting of my fic. It makes me very happy. Anyway, I'll start the next chapter right away. See you next time!
