Wowowowow, double update? Who is this cool girl...cat...ghost? I know right? I'm so cool.
This one is short though. But I think it's pretty cute.
I love looking at the views for each country. 24 for Australia, 53 for Germany, 76 for Canada...ONE THOUSAND AND THREE FOR THE U.S! Dang, 'Murica really likes my story. I'm honored. On a completely random note, I want to go to Disney Land. I've weirdly never been. Maybe when the funny little virus is over.
Reviews!
mixsii: Next chapter is a Maegan chapter! Or is it? Plot twists! Also, thank you for the compliment of my socks. Last day of pride month :(. Also I made our favourite purple guy be pansexual solely because they both start with p.
Enjoy the chapter!
Chapter 41
Facing The Truth
Ruby sat in the passenger's seat of Raven's car, staring out the window. She watched the raindrops as they raced each other down the glass. Ruby hadn't said a single word the whole drive. The cogs in her mind were turning wildly, trying to come up with something, anything to say. Finally, she blurted out,
"I know I'm adopted."
Raven froze. Then she slumped in her seat and sighed. There was no point in denying it. Plus, Raven had been mad at her mom for not telling her for years now.
"How'd you find out?" She asked tentatively.
Ruby dug through her backpack and pulled out a small stack of papers held together with a silver paper clip.
"I found the papers. Why didn't you tell me sooner?" She asked.
Raven shrugged.
"I dunno. Mom always told me not to tell you, ever since I was seven. Apparently you didn't remember much anyways, the doctors said you had a rare type of amnesia? Anyways, I was going to tell you at some point, no matter what Mom said." Raven smiled.
Ruby nodded.
"Okay. I'm going to talk to Mom when we get home."
"I think that's a good idea." Raven said as she pulled into their driveway.
When Ruby got inside, most of the house was already packed up. Photographs, vases with colourful flowers, and blankets were all in moving cardboard boxes. They only had the bare necessities left in the room.
"Mom? I have something I wanna talk to you about!" Ruby called.
"Sure sweetie! I'm in Rylie's room putting away laundry." Her mother called.
Ruby walked down the hall into Rylie's messy yellow room. Although it was slightly less messy because a lot of the toys and books had been packed away, there was still a healthy amount of clutter scattering the carpet.
"Hey Rubes. How was work?" Her mother asked, folding a small white sweater and putting it into a drawer.
"Good. Um, so…" Ruby took a deep breath. It was like coming out all over again. Except almost scarier.
"Why didn't you tell me I was adopted?" She asked quickly, all in one breath.
Her mother paused on folding a faded green shirt that read 'I Heart NYC!'. She turned to Ruby, face pale.
"Did Ray tell you?" She asked quietly. Ruby shook her head.
"No. I found the papers. Seriously, why didn't you tell me? What happened?"
It just came to her that that meant each of her siblings was born to a different dad, minus the twins. Ruby shook her head. Ew. She really didn't want to think about that right now.
(I'm not saying that people born to different dads or moms are gross, I just mean that Ruby doesn't want to think about her mother's, ah, baby-making life. I probably don't have to clarify this, I just feel like there would be at least one person who'd be offended by that. -Ghost)
Her mother sighed.
"So, me and your father...me and Ross, we always wanted a big family. With at least three kids. So, after we had Ray, we wanted to have another kid a year later. Well, we tried and we tried but it never worked out. Turns out that Ross was only able to have one kid, and that's it. We were devastated, but then we decided to try adoption. And they had a new arrival. You were that arrival."
Her mother sniffed, getting teary-eyed.
"You and Raven bonded immediately, and we figured it was fate. You got all your shots, they did some background checks, and you were good for adoption. But then, some kids at school started to bully other adopted kids, at least that's what Ray told me. Then, a couple days later, you had a sudden loss of memories. You couldn't remember that you were adopted, or anything before that point. You could still talk, walk, and remember your name and age, but anything else was gone."
She escaped, but I wiped her memory. The diary entry she'd found in the cabin suddenly made more sense now. So William must have had control over her memories...that jerk. Did that mean he could read her mind? Ruby shuddered. She sure hoped not.
"Me and Ross figured that this was a chance to make you seem like just your average kid. To escape from the bullies. We'd just say that you were our birth kid. It was such a stupid decision, I know. Adopted kids are just as normal as non-adopted kids. But, as far as we were concerned…"
A tear rolled down her mother's cheek.
"You were ours!"
She burst into tears. Ruby, who wasn't much of a crier at all, had to admit she was getting a little misty-eyed. Her mother wrapped her in a hug, which Ruby gratefully accepted. Her mother cried a little into her shoulder.
"I love you so much, Ruby. No matter what happens, you'll always be my wonderful little girl."
Ruby smiled softly, and patted her back.
Her mother let go and awkwardly wiped her tears away.
"Sorry for getting emotional there," She sniffed. Ruby laughed.
"That's okay. I don't blame you."
Ruby pointed to the kitchen.
"Um, I should probably make some breakfast."
After a hearty breakfast of Gloomi-O's, Ruby grabbed her backpack and headed towards the door. Her mother waved.
"Have a great day at school, honey." Her mother smiled.
Ruby grinned. "I will. Love you, mom."
"Love you too, Rubes."
A/N
Sniff sniff...I'm not crying, you're crying!
So cute. Mom hugs.
Challenge/Question: Have you ever been to DisneyLand/World? If so, what's it like? I heard it is very, very busy, but the rides are great!
Have a great day/night!
