Chapter 53

Girls Night In!

Ruby yawned, unlocking the door with her keys and pulling it open, slinging her backpack over one arm.

The second she opened the door, loud, cheery music burst through, stabbing her ears with the bright neon knives of children's show tunes. Ruby winced and covered her ears, stepping into the building tentatively.

"WE CAN'T GO OVER IT, WE CAN'T GO UNDER IT, WE'RE JUST GONNA HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT!" The speakers screamed. Malcolm and Jojo, who were running around the room, sang along joyfully.

Mari rushed over, panting.

"Sorry, Ruby! The kids were really bored, so they figured out how to play music on the computer and started running around and dancing. It's sort of chaotic right now. We're trying to put them to bed." Mari explained.

In the background, Freddy tried to grab Jojo, who twirled away and left Freddy to fall on his face onto the floor.

Ruby nodded. "Yeah, that's fine. I'm impressed you've managed to keep them sane this long."

Mari rolled her eyes. "We barely did anything except plunk them in front of the nature channel for a few hours and let them play with toys and board games. The two of them being cooped up in this place is really taking a toll on all of us."

Ruby frowned. "Aw, that sucks." She flung her checkered backpack to the floor and unzipped it to grab some of her Monster drink, but was interrupted by a flurry of black, white, and orange fur. She yelped and dove back. Ruby squinted at the two adorable tiny kittens sitting there, one licking it's paw.

"Cindy? Candy? What the heck are you doing here?!"

Jojo screeched to a halt, gasping.

"Kitties!"

She leaned down and attempted to stroke Cindy's ginger-patched pelt, but her hand phased right through. Jojo pouted.

"Aww."

Candy padded up to Malcolm and purred, trying to rub up against him but still going right through his leg. Ruby tilted her head to the side. "Huh. I guess the myth about cats - and other animals - being able to see ghosts is true." She mused.

The two kids turned their focus from screaming music and just plain screaming to the two kittens rolling on the floor. Mari turned to Ruby and mouthed a silent thank you.

"Here, why don't you go to Mangle, Chica, and Cassidy's room. I'm sure it's quieter there."

Mari suggested. She ushered her past the kids and to a small back room where Ruby could hear music playing through. It was nice, sort of creepy mixed with pop and some EDM-esque parts. The singer she recognized as Bella Poarch - it was probably her new song with Sub Urban, Inferno.

Ruby pushed open the door to find Cassidy writing happily in her sketchbook, and Mangle and Chica chatting aimlessly in the corner. When she stepped in, Cassidy immediately slammed her book shut with a panicked glance, tucking it away under the covers of her sleeping bag.

Ruby gave her an awkward wave and headed for her friends. To be honest, Ruby didn't quite know what to think of Cassidy. She seemed pretty unsocial, only talking occasionally with Mari and spending most of her time in her room with the sketchbook. Also, she could be insanely fierce. Totally badass, but also kind of frightening how ruthless it was.

Chica brightened when she saw her. "Hey Ruby! Me and Mangle were just saying we haven't had a sleepover in like, forever." She stretched out on the pink sleeping bag.

Ruby sat down beside them and grinned. "So, why don't we have one now? I've got lots of gum- wait, never mind. Uh, we could probably watch a movie on the computer?"

Mangle clapped her hands. "Yesss! I've been wanting to watch K-12 with you two for a reallyyy long time. It's insanely good."

Ruby nodded. "Sure! Let's do that."

They stood up, and spotted Cassidy watching them from behind the brim of her sketchbook. She noticed them noticing her and immediately darted her gaze away.

Ruby rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "Er... Cassidy, do you wanna watch the movie with us?"

Cassidy thought about it for about three seconds, then set her sketchbook and pen aside, standing up and brushing off her frilly black skirt. "Sure! I mean, I guess so. If you guys really want me to, then I will. For you."

Ruby smirked slightly. Sure. For us.

They wandered out the door and made their way to the main room. Foxy was sitting there with Cindy and Candy, throwing stray pieces of string at their paws. Ruby waved.

"Hey! We're watching K-12 on the computer."

Foxy stuck out his tongue. "That girly movie? Bleh. I'll be in the kitchen if you need me."

Mangle rolled her eyes. "It's not that girly. There's plenty of murder." But Foxy was already out the door and down the hallway, humming a sea shanty to himself.

Mangle went over to the keyboard and typed 'K-12' into the MeTub search bar, then clicked on it. Ruby popped a piece of mango gum into her mouth and tuned in to the movie.

One hour, thirty-two minutes, and seven seconds later…

Cassidy's eyes were wide, mouth agape.

"That was...that was SO GOOD! Crybaby is such a cool character, and I hate that principal guy and his son, and I'm so happy they're dead, and the idea of a bubble lifting up the school is so creative, and the costumes and the makeup and the SONGS WERE FANTASTIC! And the fact that it's available for free is...insane?! She should make it an official movie! Seriously, Melanie Martinez is so pretty and awesome and I've run out of synonyms."

Ruby wiggled her eyebrows. "Does Cass have a crush?"

Cassidy snorted. "Nah. Bold of you to assume I'm attracted to women."

Chica tilted her head to the side. "Well, are you?"

"Biromantic and asexual. Don't ask how I know that from being locked up for almost ten years. Anyways, that's completely off-topic. We were talking about how fantastic that movie was." Cassidy crossed her arms.

Mangle grinned. "Glad you like it! It's definitely my favourite movie along with Mean Girls and Spirited Away."

Ruby thought for a moment, then blew a pale orange bubble, pursing her lips. Unfortunately, the bubble was not large enough to carry an entire four-story school building, and it popped at about the size of a fist.

Chica grinned. "Dang, you almost had it. I bet we could turn this stupid building into an airship easily."

Suddenly, there was a sniffing sound coming from behind a corner. The girls turned their attention to the noise, and saw a teary-eyed Foxy wiping a glimmering bead of salty water from the corner of his yellow eye.

"That was...one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen with me own eye."

"Alright, you need to leave." Mangle stood up and went to drag him out. Foxy was still raving breathlessly about the movie.

"The sunsets seen from the wind-blown sails of my ship don't even compare to the beauty and symbolism of that film. The view of the crashing waves from the height of the crow's nest simply…" The sound of his voice eventually trailed off as Mangle led him back to the kitchen.

Cassidy watched him leave. "He's never been on a pirate ship, has he." She deadpanned.

"Nope."

"Not that I'm aware of."

Cassidy nodded. "Yeah, that's about what I thought. He's creative, I must say."

Ruby crossed her legs. "Weren't you and him pretty close?"

Cassidy frowned. "How did you know that?"

Ruby shrugged. "Uh, I think he mentioned you a couple times. Why don't you hang out with him more, if you two were best friends?"

Cassidy's face was emotionless. "People change."

Ruby figured that she probably shouldn't press it. Cassidy looked uncomfortable with this topic.

"So...do you guys want to play Truth or Dare?" Mangle asked, arriving back from delivering Foxy to the kitchen. Ruby nodded, the tension being eased.

"Sure!"

"Okay...Ruby, Truth or Dare?" Chica asked.

Ruby grinned. "Dare."

Chica smiled devilishly, rubbing her hands together in an evil way. From across the room, Cindy and Candy fought with sheathed claws over a particularly large piece of pink yarn.

"I dare you to...wear a horse head and ask Bonnie and Freddy where the nearest firearms shop is."

Ruby blinked. "That's...creative. You guys have a horse head?"

Mangle leaned under a table and pulled out a floppy brown plastic horse head, the name messy and rubbery. Ruby stretched it over her head and winced.

"Ugh, it stinks! I can only see out of the mouth, too."

Chica shrugged? "Too bad. Hurry up, I think they're in their room."

Ruby unsteadily made her way to their room, the horse mask obscuring her vision grotesquely.

She pushed open the door - well, more like kicked it down, held up her water gun that she always carried around with her, and flipped her mane.

"Got any firearms?"

"Go fish." Bonnie responded, leaning in closer on the couch to see the pictures on the comic him and Freddy were reading. Ruby frowned.

"Ick. Get a room you two," She joked. Freddy raised an eyebrow.

"We did, in fact. This is our room. What are you doing here, again?" He asked.

Ruby rolled her eyes, though they couldn't see that through the beautiful, stunning horse mask. (that's what the point of the mask is)

"It's a dare, idiots. You sure you don't know where any firearms are?" She let her finger rest on the trigger. If these two tried any funny business, like pulling out a Nirf gun, she'd blast 'em.

Freddy shrugged. "Maybe there's a secret bunker under this building that reveals secrets and plot and lore."

Ruby rolled her eyes. "As if." She shot the ceiling with a spray of water and made her way out the door.

"So, how'd it go?" Chica asked. Ruby sighed, pulling off the stretchy rubbed head.

"They didn't know. A bummer, too. I was really looking forward to testing the fire resistance of this place."

Cassidy frowned. "Huh. What would happen if this place burned down? I mean, we are bound to it. Would we be free?"

Chica gave her a friendly light punch in the shoulder. "Don't get any ideas, Miss Pyromaniac."

"I was just saying." Cassidy grumbled, though there was still a spark of interest in her eyes.

The four girls chatted a little longer, before the alarm of Ruby's watch went off, and she was forced to scoop the kittens back into her bag and say goodbye to the ghosts.

A nice sleepover, she thought, and rode away.

idk I wasn't super motivated in this chapter to begin with, sorry it wasn't super interesting. But we got Melanie Martinez, so it was worth it.

but I AM excited for the next chapter! it's going to have more Cassidy because I love her, sorry if y'all were tired of her.

Question/Challenge: What is your guy's favourite video game? Besides Fnaf, of course.
