Sirens blared as police cars chased a getaway vehicle down the highway. The driver had robbed a bank and was trying to avoid the police. He reached into his glove compartment, and pulled out some rotten fruit.
"How about some produce?" he sneered, throwing the fruit at the cops. The officers had to stop and clean their windshields. While they were distracted, the criminal noticed a nearby exit. "I'll lose 'em wherever that leads." he thought, and steered onto it. The exit led right into Brighton.
The criminal saw the sign welcoming him to the town. "There should be a good place to hide out here." As he drove in, he took notice of the residents. He didn't know they were monsters yet.
"Strange. It's the middle of April, but looks like everyone here celebrates Halloween year round." the criminal continued. He scanned around the area until he noticed a nearby hotel. "Perfect! I'll check in there and pretend to be a guest!"
To blend in with the locals, he disguised himself as a zombie, and walked like one through the front door. Ester was running the front desk. She saw him.
"Welcome to the McGee/Chen Haunted Home. Would you like a room?" she asked.
"Yes, room!" the criminal said in his best zombie voice.
"Very well. Please sign your name here, and I'll give you a room key." Ester said. The criminal did so, and was given a key. Ruben pushed over a luggage cart.
"Can I take your bag?" he asked.
"No, I take myself!" the criminal said in his best zombie voice. He carried it to the elevator and into his room. He looked around it.
"This is actually quite nice. Now I can check my moolah!" He lay the bag down, and was about to open it, when there was a knock on the door.
"Hello there!" Molly said. She and Ollie always greeted new guests. "As the official greeters at this hotel, we wanna give you a complimentary basket of muffins!"
"We made them ourselves." Ollie added.
"Uh, thanks." the criminal took the basket. "Nice costume." he went on, and shut the door.
"Costume?" Ollie asked in confusion. The criminal went back to his money.
"110, 120, 130…" he counted, but his stomach then growled. "I could use a bite." he thought. He left the room, and went downstairs to the restaurant.
Darryl was working there. "Please a take seat, sir." he said. The criminal sat down.
"Bring me food!" he ordered. Darryl went into the kitchen, and came out with a tureen. "Here you go." He took the lid off, and there was a plateful of calf's brains!
"What is this?" the fake zombie asked.
"Brains. That's what zombies eat, duh!" Darryl said. "If you're thinking it's human, we don't serve that here."
"Are they cooked?" asked the criminal.
"Nope. Raw, just as your kind likes 'em!" Darryl smiled. The criminal was clearly grossed out, but he had to maintain his charade, so he reluctantly ate it all.
Afterwards, he spent the next few hours puking into his toilet. "That was disgusting! I hope I never have to eat that slop again!" He fell right asleep afterward.
The next day, June was going from room to room gathering the guests' laundry. She came into the crook's room, and saw the bag of money, but she didn't know that.
"He must have a lot of dirty clothes that need washing." she thought, and took it. The fake zombie came into his room after a workout in the gym, and saw his loot missing!
"Where's my cash?!" he cried, and started looking everywhere for it. He then heard the sound of a washing machine starting up. "Oh, no!" He raced downstairs to the basement.
"Hey, employees only!" Sharon said as he ran past. The criminal burst into the laundry room, and saw June dumping the bag into the machine! He was furious.
"YOU!" he growled, and grabbed the young swamp monster's hair, thinking she had a mask on.
"Let me go!" she yelled. Franken-Mollie rushed in.
"What are you doing to my sister?!" Ollie ordered.
"Trying to get this mask off her!" the criminal said.
"I'm not wearing one." June said. The criminal slowly began to put the pieces together.
"You-you-you're real monsters?!" he stammered.
"Well, duh!" Molly answered.
"AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!" the crook screamed, and ran for his life! As he ran, he saw an assortment of monsters, each scarier to him than the last. He burst into the lobby, and right out the door. More creatures were walking in the streets.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" he yelled. Finally he reached the town limits, and saw a nearby police car. He raced over to it and pounded on the windshield. "PLEASE ARREST ME, I BEG YOU!" The cops put the cuffs on him and took him away.
"You look like you've just been through a nightmare." one said.
"You can say that again." the crook sighed.
