Well here is chapter 22 of the fic.
Chapter 22
A Sibling Reunion Part 1
Thursday morning arrived and people were getting up for work, including Sabre. Today is his first day of work at the Corneria military station and he wants to make it a good day. After his few tours and trips around the city and the visit to the base he had yesterday, he knew that he was ready to take on this new experience. He got his clothes on before having breakfast, which consisted of toast, eggs, a side of bacon strips, and a cup of coffee. He wasn't used to how it tasted, kinda bitter… but he'll probably manage.
After a few minutes, he grabbed his bag with his uniform inside, put on his shoes, and left the hotel to go to work.
…
A few floors above, Dash was getting ready too. He came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and went into the closet to pick out his clothes. He chose the best he could find, a maroon, short-sleeve t-shirt with a letter D imprinted on it, a pair of gray khakis, and a pair of black leather fingerless gloves. He checked his phone to see what time it was: 7:54 AM.
'Oh shit!' he thought to himself. 'I'm gonna be late if I don't get a move on!'
Dash placed the phone on his bed and rushed to dry the rest of his body as fast as he could. While he continued to dry, he stumbled towards the dresser drawer and opened it to grab a pair of blue boxers. He then tossed his towel in the laundry bag, rushed to put on his clothes, shoved his phone in his pocket, put his shoes on and grabbed his room key before heading out the door.
He rushed down the hall as fast as he could to reach the elevator, desperate to make it to the lobby before Star Fox could get there.
'Dangit! I can't believe I overslept!' he thought in his head. 'Don't want to miss this trip to the Cornerian military base. Especially on a tour with Fox and his team.'
He started to think about that handsome Fox McCloud again, how attractive he looks as well as his warm smile. He doesn't want to miss his chance of spending the entire day with the Star Fox team, so he can't waste any more time than he has already. Dash saw the elevators ahead, pushed the down button, and stood there waiting…impatiently. It took a little bit of time, but the elevator finally arrived to collect him. He entered the elevator, pushed the lobby button, and waited impatiently some more for the ride to be over.
…
It's been almost six minutes and a red van was on its way to Dash and Sabre's hotel. In the Mustang, was the Star Fox team with Falco driving and wearing sunglasses like he's a badass dude. Fox was sitting in the passenger's seat while Peppy, Slippy, and Krystal were sitting in the back seats. Slippy and Peppy were sitting in the seats behind Falco and Fox, while Krystal was sitting behind the toad and the rabbit. Slippy's eyes looked towards Peppy and the toad began to smile and blush again, seeing that sweet smile on the hare's face is something he wants to cherish at this moment…
This caught Krystal's attention without him realizing it. He forgot that she was telepathic, so she can read people's minds and learn what they're thinking. 'A lot of us have most of our attractions to people of the same gender,' she thought to herself. 'Must be something great that not everybody realizes just yet.'
Falco turned one last corner and made it to their destination: Dash's hotel. (As well as Sabre's hotel too)
…
The elevator doors just slid open and Dash couldn't wait any longer. He hastily looked both ways to see if anyone was around, which there weren't, before running out of the elevator heading down the hall to get to the main lobby. He saw that a red van was waiting for him outside. He saw someone open the window and out came an arm waving towards him. When he looked to see who was waving at him, his heart skipped a beat when he saw Fox. Dash was feeling overjoyed now, he caught his breath long enough to run out the door to the sidewalk in front of the red car.
"Hey Dash," said Fox in a charismatic greeting. "In a rush, I see."
"Yeah," Dash breathed the reply. "Sorry, *pant* I *pant* overslept *pant* a little. Any later than that *pant* then I'd be late."
"Gee, such overkill," Falco said sarcastically over Fox's shoulder. "What I wouldn't give to sleep in today."
"Falco, we're gonna be meeting Krystal's brother for the first time today," Fox pointed out. "So we better make a good impression when we do meet him."
"Don't worry Mom," Falco said mockingly. "I won't say or do anything that would make Sabre uncomfortable when we meet him today."
"I wouldn't say that y'know," Krystal shouted in the very back seat. "In case I need to remind you, Sabre and I have telepathic powers so we can tell what you're thinking."
That reminder just made Slippy feel a chill up his spine. He completely forgot that Krystal can read minds, now she knows his secret crush on Peppy isn't a secret anymore. Or, at least, if she's willing to keep quiet.
"Say Dash," Slippy said hastefully so he can drop their subject and move on. "Ready to go? T-there's an empty seat next to Krystal back here."
"Oh right," said Dash. "Thanks for the offer, Slippy."
Slippy opened his side door and allowed Dash to enter. The monkey climbed past the toad and into the back of the van as he struggled to sit in the seat next to Krystal. He sits down and buckles his seatbelt so that he's ready to go. Slippy pushes his car door shut, Falco locks the car, and everyone is ready to go to the military base to meet Krystal's brother.
…
It's been about over 30 minutes since they left Dash's hotel. They're almost there to the military base, but there's a bit of a traffic jam happening at the moment and it's getting really annoying right now. About 50 or 60 cars were cramped in the lanes and beeping their horns to make the cars ahead of them hurry up and let them through already, and a few people shouting could be heard too. It felt like torture to be in this mess, as if everyone is being forced to suffer this unfair treatment that the roads and traffic lights are putting them in.
In the van, Falco was grumbling with anger that he was the one on the wheel, Fox, Dash and Krystal were bored out of hell over this, Peppy surprisingly fell asleep over the sounds of the other car and Slippy is watching Peppy and seeing how cute he looks when he's sleeping. He doesn't even care if Krystal's listening in on his thoughts anymore, he's just enjoying the view.
While looking on his phone, Fox saw that Wolf sent him a text just now. He opened the message and read what he sent;
Wolf: Hey Pup. How's it going?
Fox: Pretty good.
Fox felt his cheeks warm up over the text conversation they started to have. He texted some more.
Fox: My team and I are going to meet Krystal's older brother for the first time.
It took a little bit for Wolf to reply.
Wolf: What? Seriously? I didn't know she had a brother.
Fox: Yeah, me neither. It was probably emotional baggage that she didn't want to bring up.
Wolf: Gee…I'd hate to have to go through that too.
Fox: I figured as much…
Fox: So, what're you doing today?
Wolf: I'm going to check out the job suggestions that you got me from General Pepper today. Hopefully, I'll be able to get accepted by the managers and be given any of their offers. I'm starting to feel nervous about it, I'm afraid to admit.
Fox: It's ok Wolf, we all get like that sometimes when it comes to a job offer. Just be honest and don't do something that could get yourself in trouble.
Wolf: That's easier said than done. Regarding my criminal history, I might just end off getting kicked out before I even get an interview again.
Fox is trying to ensure Wolf not to give up on the opportunity of a better life, he's had enough shit going on than he's getting right now. Luckly, the recommended places Wolf could work at will be really helpful.
Fox: It'll be okay, Wolf. General Pepper said that most of the people who work at any one of those jobs used to go down some similar paths you went down too before they worked there, as he told me on the phone yesterday. If they were let off the hook after most of the sins they committed, then I think they'll give you a second chance.
Wolf: I hope so. Thanks, Fox.
Fox: Anytime.
"Ugh! Finally, we're almost there!" Falco said.
Fox looked up and saw that they were almost to the Cornerian military base. The chat he had with Wolf must've killed a lot of time. Fox looked back at the other members of his team to see Slippy attempting to wake Peppy up, Krystal looking excited and nervous, probably because she's going to see her brother again in so long, and Dash looking happy like a kid opening his presents on Christmas. Before anything else, Fox turned back to his phone to give Wolf a couple more texts.
Fox: Hey, I gotta go. We're almost to the Cornerian military base right now. Falco had to drive through a big traffic jam.
Wolf: Damn, I hate those things. Well, I guess I'll see you soon. It was good to talk to you Fox.
Fox blushed at the comment as he replied.
Fox: Good talking with you too, Wolf. See ya!
Wolf: Bye!
Fox turned off his phone and placed it back in his pocket. After a few more minutes of driving, Falco made a left turn and into the parking lot of Corneria's military base to me Krystal's brother, Sabre.
…
Sabre was in the boys' locker room of the Cornerian army base. He just finished putting on his uniform before placing the bag he put his civilian clothes inside his locker. He took a look in the body-length mirror and, like yesterday, his uniform looked too small for him at first glance, despite being his exact size. He still felt a bit uncomfortable about it. At least nobody cared about his clothes' appearance yesterday, since he didn't hear any thoughts or comments about it.
Once he was ready, he made his way to General Pepper's office as he would finally be formally introduced to all of the members of the military. But while he was going there, he bumped into someone who was a little shorter than him, and he was also dressed in civilian clothes. For a moment, he thought he was another soldier who had just arrived, but he didn't remember seeing him before. And Bill also didn't say that there was a soldier in the army of the species the person was in front of him.
"Oh, sorry" said the person in front of Sabre.
"Do not worry," the wolf said while shaking his head. "I should've been more aware of my surroundings. This is my first day of work here and I'm not very focused because of my mixed emotions of being here. So, do you work here too?"
"No," replied the stranger. "I'm just visiting. Some of my new friends invited me to come here, but as soon as we entered, I was so amazed by how this place looked that I got distracted and separated from them without realizing it. So, now I'm trying to find them."
"Well, if you'd like, I could help you find them," Sabre offered. "I don't think they've gone that far. What's your name?"
"My name is Dash, Dash Bowman."
"Nice to meet you Dash," Sabre greeted in a calm tone. "My name is Sabre."
Upon hearing that name, Dash felt surprised. He was talking to Krystal's older brother. He found him! He was even surprised that he wasn't a fox. Since he saw that Krystal is a vixen, he thought that her brother would be the same species that she was. But no, he was a wolf instead.
Once thoughts were put aside, the Sabre walked with Dash to help him look for his friends. After walking through a number of corridors and going through various places, that left the monkey in awe of his view, they finally heard a voice from behind them.
"Dash, I finally found you."
Dash and Sabre turned around to see Fox McCloud approaching them both, with a look of relief on his face.
"Oh Fox," Dash said with a little guilt. "I'm sorry for splitting up with you. I was amazed at how this place looked and I just took off without noticing." He turned to Sabre. "I bumped into this guy and he said that he'd help me find you and the others."
"What a relief, and don't worry," Fox said. "It can be very easy to get lost here, so it's wise to bring a map." Fox then turned to Sabre. "Thanks ever so much for helping my friend."
"It's no problem at all," said Sabre with a smile.
"I don't think we've met before," he said. "I'm Fox McCloud."
This gave Sabre a surprised look. "You're Fox McCloud? Leader of the Star Fox team? I've heard a lot about you."
"Yes," he replied. "It seems that I'm more legendary among my recruits and friends."
"I won't doubt that," Sabre said. "By the way, my name's Sabre."
"Sabre? Then that means you're-"
"Sabre!" Fox was cut off by a familiar female voice that the wolf had never thought of hearing again in so long.
Here ends the twenty-two chapter. I hope you liked it.
