Well here is chapter 23 of the fic.
Chapter 23
A Sibling Reunion: Part 2
The three guys turned to where the female voice was coming from, and the wolf could only see in shock with a tear forming in his eye looking at the person who called out to him. His sister Krystal, in the flesh, running towards him with tears in her eyes and arms wide open.
"K-Krystal?..." was all he could mutter when he began to sob, with a smile growing on his face, and he began to stretch his arms wide too.
The blue vixen jumped into the brown wolf's arms and gave him a huge hug, with Sabre's arms closed behind her. The two of them smiled and cried with joy, as they were so glad to see each other again, and they're so happy that they have someone in their family again with them. The other Star Fox members moved next to Fox and Dash as they all looked at the siblings' happy reunion. They couldn't help but smile, but some of them were just putting on a mask…
Dash wishes he could have someone in his family that can embrace him like that. He used to have dreams where he was with a man and a woman who he'd imagine as his Dad and Mom. In most of these dreams, he and the imagined parents would sit on a picnic blanket and have lunch together, look at butterflies, and laugh together. He couldn't help but feel jealous of Krystal and Sabre's family bond, he would really want to have something like that. As for Fox, he just couldn't help but look back at how much he misses his parents, James and Vixy. He remembers when he missed his parents when they were away at work for a long while, and they eventually came back to see him waiting for them. He felt glad to have them by his side that time, and he's glad that Krystal is having her brother be there for her that same way.
"I…I can't believe it's really you," Sabre said softly.
"I couldn't believe it either," Krystal replied. "I never thought that there was a possible chance that someone from my home planet could still be alive." She gasped for a bit of air before continuing. "I'm so happy to see you again, brother…"
"Me too, sister," Sabre said as tears fell down both of their faces. "Me too…"
…
After introductions were committed and aside, Krystal and Sabre did a little catching up while making their way to General Pepper's office. The siblings were talking about how things have been since their planet and inhabitants were destroyed after the Lylat Wars, how they survived, what's been happening to them during the past several years, and how they got here to this point today. They were so happy to be reunited and have a lot of things to talk about, lots of catching up to do, and so many things that needed to be discussed. They offered the rest of Star Fox and Dash to join them, but they thought it was best to leave the duo alone. They need their sibling time after all.
"So, how've they been treating you so far?" Sabre asked.
"Pretty good," she replied. "I felt so glad that I wasn't alone anymore. It was like Star Fox took me in as a part of their family after that rough time on Sauria."
"I kinda know how that feels," he said with a laugh. "The people I met before I trained to become part of the Cornerian military made me feel like being part of a family too. Heck, we even played a few tackle games too."
"Seems like you've been having more fun than I have," Krystal said. "Being part of a mercenary team and taking jobs to protect the Lylat system, it's kinda hard to find some chill time when the only thing enjoyable we could find was the work we get."
"'When you love what you do, it doesn't even feel like work', a man once said," Sabre told his sister.
"That's true enough."
They giggled for a few seconds. There was something on the wolf's mind that he wanted to ask Krystal, but seeing how happy his sister was of seeing him again he decided to wait for a little bit.
"Hey, we're almost to Pepper's office," Krystal said as she noticed the sign on the wall.
"Nice," he said. "Wanna come and join me when I go in?"
"I wish I could, but I volunteered to help with the preparations for our flight training today. Maybe we'll see each other then?"
"Sure, no problem," Sabre said with a smile. They walked close to where the door to General Pepper's office was and waved at each other. "Well, see ya then!"
"Bye-bye!" Krystal walked in the direction they came from to regroup with the others as Sabre walked towards the office door and knocked on it twice.
"Come in!" a muffled voice from inside said.
Sabre reached for the doorknob, turned it, and pulled the door open before heading inside.
"I'm here and ready sir!"
"Good," said General Pepper's voice coming from the inside. "How are things going?"
"Really great," Sabre said in joy. "Thank you so much for contacting my sister and her friends about my arrival! It feels so great to see her again after so long! How could I ever thank you for such generosity?"
"Well, for starters, you can come on in here and close that door," the old dog said. "We've got some important business to do now, and that is your introduction for your first day of the job."
"Yessir~!" Sabre saluted before closing the door behind him as he entered the office.
…
Meanwhile, at the Star Wolf residence, Panther was cleaning off a stain on the carpet to increase their privileges to stay there. He's scrubbing the scrub broom on the floor really hard to get the stain off the carpet, but it's taking a really long time for that to actually happen. He scrubbed for a few minutes before running out of breath and rubs his forehead with his arm. Then, his phone vibrates in his pocket. He takes it out, and reads the ID caller on the screen:
Unknown Caller
Panther thought about hanging up, but the number below the words caught his attention. It looked like a Corneria number, so it could possibly be about a job offer. Or it could be someone who found their way to his phone number and decided to call for a prank call? Just in case, he let the phone buzz till it went to the voice message.
"Hello there?" said a familiar voice, "Panther Caroso? It's me, Bill Grey. I wanna talk to you and Leon about something-"
But then, Bill's voice was cut off by another familiar voice that was heard from the other side.
"Panther! You better get yours and Leon's asses on this phone right away! And I don't mean in a literal sense like the LAST TIME you did it!"
Holy cow! Wolf is there with him?! The panther didn't waste any time pressing the green button.
"Panther'll get Leon on the phone right away boss," he said hastefully.
"T-Thank you Panther," Bill said over the phone in what sounded like annoyance and pain. "And PLEASE," must be turning to the wolf that's with him. "Don't scream in my ear when I'm on the phone again! It's really rude, dude."
"Hey, I don't have time for rhymes," Wolf joked on the other side.
…
Back at the Cornerian army base, preparations were ready for the formal presentation of Sabre to the other members of the army. General Pepper guided the wolf to a small podium that was in a completely enclosed area of the base, which was on a balcony in an elevated area so that everyone present could see them.
While the general made a short speech, Sabre could see the people who were present there, apart from the Star Fox team and Dash, Miyu and Fay were present too. There were also two fennec foxes that the wolf guessed from their physical appearance that they were father and daughter. Although he didn't see him in the first few rows, Sabre saw Bill over by a corner with someone who wasn't visible from where everyone else was looking, but was still watching the event that was taking place.
Before reaching the podium, Pepper warned Sabre that he would have to say a few words after he finished his speech. The wolf was a little nervous, since he had never had to speak in public, much less to a large number of people.
"Don't worry Sabre," he heard his sister's telepathic voice at that moment. "Everything will be fine."
This gave him a huge confidence boost.
"I'm happy to see you all present on this day," he said to everyone watching him. "I never imagined in my entire life that a moment like this would come. Very few of you will know that I come from the planet Cerinia, where technology doesn't exist, and together with my sister Krystal, we were the only survivors after the attack of Andross. I did not believe that my life would be worth anything after losing my people and being separated from my sister for several years, but thanks to some members of the army I realized that I still had a purpose and it was to protect this planet and all the planets of the Lylat System of any attack, and I promise to do everything in my power to prevent the tragedy of my planet from happening again. So, I hope everyone accepts me as a part of you."
After finishing his speech, everyone began to applaud him as a sign that they accepted him as part of the army.
…
Bill and Wolf had found themselves listening to everything from one corner of the area, and, as expected, nobody noticed the presence of Wolf, Panther, and Leon just before Sabre began his speech. So, they heard everything that he said.
Both Leon and Panther were very surprised, they never knew that Krystal had an older brother and that he was a wolf as their leader. Well, the only differences were that this Sabre was a little less muscular and a little shorter in stature than Wolf, but not too much in height. While on Wolf's perspective, he had already found out about Krystal's brother an hour ago and was also surprised that he wasn't a fox like her sister either.
Once the speech was over, Bill was finally able to talk with Wolf, Leon, and Panther about the job offer they were given in the military, so they could earn money to survive their stay on the planet.
"So, what's the job General Pepper gave us?" Wolf asked.
"I hope it's something that involves blood," Leon said, with a malicious smile,
"If I were you, I would have no hope for that," Panther said to his partner, with a peeved look.
Bill was thoughtful for a moment about what kind of job the chameleon expected. "Well, the job we were able to get for you is in the mailroom here at the base," he said calmly. "The catch is that you'll be watched at all times, just in case you're not going to steal anything that is top secret…"
Both Wolf and Panther thought it could be a good job offer, although they didn't like the idea of being watched. Considering their past however, they understood why, so they accepted without hesitation. Leon, on the other hand, didn't seem happy with that, but Wolf beat him to the chance to say something about it.
"Leon, if you don't accept, the only blood you will see will be yours. On my hands. As I slowly wave them in front of your face that'll be busted," he said to Leon. "Remember, if we want to start a new life, we have to make some changes in what we want. Okay?"
Before Leon could say something else, a voice suddenly call out to them nearby.
"Wolf, what're you doing here?"
When they all turned around, they saw that Fox, who was in company with Falco, was standing a few feet away from them.
Here ends the twenty third chapter. I hope you liked it.
