Hate57468: Ah. Well first off, Baldur isn't a demigod. He's the son of Odin and Freya, two gods, which makes him a full-fledged god. I don't know if any Norse demigods, outside of the ones in Jakob's family like his siblings, or made up Norse demigods will appear. I'm still working on how to bring the Norse Gods into the story.
superpierce: Thanks.
AlexBeowolf2: I'll take your idea into consideration for later.
Andrakon: He's technically already got an Axe, no need for him to have a second one just because it would be powered with lightning. I am trying to come up with a signature weapon for him that could be like his father's hammer, even if I have to make the weapon up. But in terms of more weapons, he will gain more than just the Leviathan Axe. After all, that's one of the key things from the original God of War games... getting different powers and weapons to use.
Bromega2477: Well, the most he'll do is train to keep his skills and abilities sharp as well as strengthen his abilities.
eziouzumakiauditore: Hmm, I'll think about it.
SpeedMaster642: No. I'm still working on when the Norse can be brought into the story, especially Jakob's family.
Kenka: Of course not!
Animefan1986: Indeed.
Disclaimer: I do not own God of War or Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I only own the OC Jakob Thorsson.
"Got everything, brother?" Mimir asked a now 13-year old Jakob Thorsson as he picked the head up and hung him from the back of his right hip as always. He had undergone a slight change in the months that have passed, as well as aging when his birthday came around back in November, so now he was thirteen-years old.
His clothing had also changed, as he now wore a a faded black, 3/4-length, hooded leather coat with red interior linings and the British Union flag sewn on the left arm, a gray tank top, black fingerless gloves, black faded jeans and black military boots.
He had taken the metal hook in the Greek war symbol off his old black jacket and placed it on the back of his coat for him to still carry the Leviathan Axe on his back.
"I have." Jakob nodded, walking over to where he saw Brok and Sindri at the workshop.
It was time for him to go back to Midgard and go to Camp Half-Blood. Well, he had made some visits to Midgard to visit Andromeda and her mother, Sally, but he hadn't been back to Camp Half-Blood since he left after returning from the Master Bolt quest.
he had also been on the hunt for Luke Castellan after learning about the son of Hermes' betrayal and how he was the one who stole the Master Bolt as well as the Helm of Darkness, all because he served Kronos and wanted to see the god destroyed simply for the 'mistreatment'.
Not long after Jakob had left Camp Half-Blood, Luke had revealed his treachery to Andromeda and attacked her, poisoning her. That was why she was unable to say goodbye to him that day. He had only found out when he made a visit to Andromeda and she told him everything... not before giving him a slap for leaving.
He winced even now at the memory, that girl could sure slap but he did deserve it. But he promised her that he will do whatever he can to find Luke and make him pay for what he's done.
In the year that has passed since Jakob left Camp Half-Blood, having left in June 2006 and now it was June 2007, the Son of Thor had been busy aside from hunting for the treacherous son of Hermes. Training his combat skills, training his powers and taking notes from fictional characters with the power of lightning.
It's amazing what Anime, Comics, TV shows and movies can show you and inspire.
Jakob had also helped Brok and Sindri out with some stuff, but only if it concerned Midgard. He hadn't gone to any other Realm, even though the Dwarves had come up with a way for him to travel to the other Realms without needing to go to Týr's Temple, which had been hidden for a long time.
Sindri and Brok looked up from their work as Jakob approached. "Ready to leave, huh?" Sindri asked.
"Still can't believe an Aesir would waste their time at some damn summer camp." Brok snorted. "From what you've said, to me this place sounds like a daycare camp for the Olympians to chuck their kiddies into... and they have so fucking many they don't even know who's their actual kid."
"Harsh... but accurate." Sindri nodded in agreement. "One thing I hate about the Olympians is how they treat their children."
"You'd think they'd know to wear protection... or pull out." Brok chuckled slyly as Sindri let out a disgusted sound at his brother being gross while Jakob rolled his eyes at their antics. "But take care!"
"Yeah, you better visit soon after your business is done!" Sindri called, getting a nod from the Son of Thor as he made his way out and over to the only gateway used to go to Midgard and other realms alike... though a Seed of Yggdrasil was needed to unlock those destinations after a little lessons from the Squirrel.
As Jakob approached the gateway about to lock in Midgard, he heard a voice call to him. "Master Jakob! Leaving, I see?"
The Son of Thor turned only to have a figure jump onto his shoulder. The figure was a squirrel was abnormally large with anthropomorphic traits, such as a more humanoid face. He is missing his left eye and wears clothing and pauldrons.
This was Ratatoskr, a caretaker of the tree next to Níðhögg.
"Ratatoskr." Jakob nodded at the squirrel in greeting.
"Off to Midgard, I assume?" Ratatoskr inquired.
"I am. Not sure how long I'll be gone, but I will be back once my business in Midgard is concluded." Jakob said, receiving a nod from Ratatoskr.
"Oh good, it brings me some relief and comfort to have another to speak with... at least, someone that isn't a part of my personality put into spectral aspects." Ratatoskr grumbled to himself.
Jakob snorted. "Tell Bitter he's a annoying piece of shit from me, will you?"
"I heard that!" The voice of Bitter shouted from... somewhere. "And you can bite me now and eternally!"
Ratatoskr sighed. "I'd apologize for him, but where would it end?"
"True." Jakob agreed.
"Anyway..." Ratatoskr leaped off Jakob's shoulder and onto the ground. "Take care, master Jakob."
"I will." Jakob said. He turned to the gateway and, using a Seed, opened the way to Midgard. Thankfully Brok and Sindri had commissioned the gateway to appear in their little convenience store in Hell's Kitchen, the same store Jakob entered and met Sindri in a year ago.
Soon existing the gateway, Jakob walked out of the store and sighed as he listened to the sounds of New York City. Mortals going about their day, vehicles honking their horns at each other as they get stuck in traffic.
"Can't say I've not missed the chaotic sounds of this city." Mimir commented, more hidden thanks to Jakob's coat.
Jakob grunted and started walking in the direction of where Andromeda and her mother stayed, just to check in and see how things are going for them since they took care of Gabe.
Before he could do that, though, he heard a ripple like noise come from beside him, in the alleyway he was passing. Reacting quickly, he drew his Axe and held it threateningly at the Iris message that appeared in the alleyway. He blinked before recognition dawned when he saw who was on the other side.
"Chiron?" He said.
The centaur smiled. "Jakob, my boy. It is good to see you again. Glad to see your reflexes are still sharp as ever."
"I'd be a poor warrior and spitting in the face of my training if they weren't." Jakob said, entering the alleyway so nobody would stumble on this and think him nuts. "So, I take it this isn't a social call."
Here, Chiron's face turned grave. Jakob guessed that this was serious. "I must ask a difficult task of you which I know you will not follow through with. But I feel that I must ask anyway."
"What is it?" Jakob asked, dread building in his stomach.
"I must ask that you and Andromeda must stay away from Camp Half-Blood this year."
Jakob blinked, and then blinked again. Finally, he responded naturally. "WHAT?!" He didn't know what Chiron was thinking, but he thought that old age was catching up to him.
"I know what you must be thinking but it would be in Andie's best interest and yours to stay away from camp this year. Things have not been right at camp in the last few months and I fear it won't be safe for much longer." Chiron explained.
Jakob immediately shook his head. "Nope. No way, Chiron. Andie thinks of camp as her own home. I do too. There's no way anything's stopping us from going to camp."
Chiron sighed deeply and ran a hand through his shaggy hair. The look on his face showed he was not surprised that Jakob refused. Though the boy had to admit that looking at Chiron now, the old centaur was beginning to look his age.
Jakob noticed the bags under his eyes, a few cuts and scrapes could be seen on his arms and overall he just looked exhausted. The Son of Thor wondered what was going on at camp that had Chiron look the way he is now.
"I had a feeling you might say that but it was worth a shot. Then all I ask is that you try to keep Andie safe. Be by her side and protect her. Not only that, look after yourself." Chiron said.
"You don't even need to tell me that, Chiron," Jakob stated. "I'll protect Andie and I'll manage to look after myself. I always do."
"That's all that I ask," Chiron said, smiling a little. It looked as if the confirmation released several loads on his back. Well, horse back.
Then Jakob turned serious. "Chiron, what is going on? And don't give me any watered down version. What has happened at camp that got you looking so exhausted?"
Chiron hesitated. Jakob immediately knew that he wasn't going to tell him. "I can't tell you all the details since it is something that is best told face to face."
The Aesir demigod scowled. He didn't like details that concerned his well being to be kept from him. Nor did he like to think that it was being done to protect him or anything like that. While it's appreciated, Jakob can take care of himself.
"However I will inform you that the magical barriers are not as strong as they were last year and we have had a fair few incidents where monsters have found a way through and into camp. We just stopped a couple of Hellhounds from ripping down the Apollo cabin an hour ago."
Jakob's eyes widened. The camp's barrier was weakened? That was impossible. Jakob knew that the camp's magical barriers were dependent on Thalia's tree. If the barriers were weakened, then...
"Chiron," Jakob began. "What happened to Thalia's tree? What happened to it to make the barriers weak?"
Chiron hesitated again, and Jakob's suspicions were confirmed. Something terrible had happened to Thalia's tree, and if it wasn't solved... Jakob didn't want to think like that.
Now that he thought about it, more monsters had been appearing lately. In the visits he made to Midgard, he had encountered several Hellhounds, as well as several Cyclopes, Dracanaes and even Empousai, which were basically Greek vampires that served under Hecate, the Goddess of Magic.
"I thought that Hellhounds occasionally roamed around the Underworld, bar the one that appeared in camp last summer," Jakob said. "Why are so many appearing now?"
"They should be but lately thing have been stirring in the Underworld. Or more precisely Tartarus. Many that dwell in the Underworld have made their way to the surface." Chiron said.
"Were they summoned?" Jakob asked wearily. He knew that monsters were usually summoned by other beings, one he knew happened to be Luke who had summoned a Hellhound into Camp Half-Blood last year to attack Andromeda.
Chiron shook his head. "No. While many more monsters are appearing, there are too many to be controlled. If they were, they would attack specific targets or people. But now they are just attacking random demigods."
"And let me guess. Zeus is doing what he does best, aside from chasing women and throwing lightning bolts around, and ignoring the signs of Kronos rising?" Jakob asked knowingly.
Chiron nodded, though he did appear nervous at Jakob's choice of wording, even though it was true. "Yes Zeus is refusing to believe that Kronos is rising. Many of the other Gods are trying to reason with him but he will not listen."
Jakob rolled his eyes. "Typical," he muttered. "Signs of his father rising again and he acts like a child and chooses to ignore it. What a big baby." The sky boomed with thunder at his words. "Oh shut up, you know it's true. get your head out of your ass... or from between Hera's legs and use your brain, if you even have one."
The sky boomed even louder, but Jakob didn't flinch.
"Yes well until the gods can convince Zeus that Kronos truly is up to something since Luke has joined his cause, all we can do is act normally and get on with our daily routines." Chiron said, sighing at Jakob's words against the King of Olympus.
Jakob narrowed his eyes. "That's just going to get everyone killed. What we should be doing is ignoring Zeus and preparing for the worst. We should be making war plans, training our asses off, thinking of over a million contingency plans, anything. We can't just do nothing just because Zeus is an idiot!"
The sky boomed even louder with thunder. Jakob just ignored it.
"While I understand your concerns, and I readily agree with you, without Zeus' orders, we cannot make any preparation plans." Seeing Jakob about to retort, he held up his hand. "However, that doesn't mean we will stand idle. I will do all I can to prepare the camp while you meet up with Andromeda. I anticipated that you would refuse my orders and so I sent someone to pick Andromeda up. You can rendezvous with her and go to camp together."
Jakob nodded. Then picked up on what Chiron said. "Wait, her?" He grinned slightly. "Oh, I think I know who it is. Thanks, Chiron. I'll do that." He saluted the centaur before they bid each other a good bye and the Iris message shimmered and disappeared.
The Son of Thor looked around and, seeing nobody would see him, shot off into the air with lightning around him.
It didn't take him long to find Andromeda's school and he landed somewhere he wouldn't be spotted, though not without a little dramatic flare as the sky rumbled at his willpower. Plus he may have also been trying to show Zeus up on who was better when it comes to lightning and thunder.
He knew Zeus was just waiting for an excuse to use to make him out as a threat to Olympus and have a reason to eliminate him.
"So, do we just enter the school?" Mimir asked as Jakob approached the building.
"Yes." The redhead nodded and was about to do just that when he noticed a ripple in the air out of the corner of his eye and he looked, but the ripple disappeared.
Jakob narrowed his eyes and looked around, using his natural demigod senses. Upon hearing movement slightly beside him, he whirled around and smirked. "I know you're there, Annie."
The air rippled again, followed by a huff of annoyance, and Annabeth Chase appeared out of her invisibility with her New York Yankees cap in her hand. She looked like she grew a little since Jakob had last seen her, along with her hair growing out a few more inches. Nevertheless, she still had the same princess curls at the end.
She glared at him, her steely grey eyes making an intimidating image. However, Jakob was already used to such a glare, and responded by giving a cheeky smile.
"How many times have I told you not to call me Annie?" she asked with bite in her voice. Jakob just kept on smiling.
"Dunno. How many times have I called you Annie up till now, Annie?" he responded cheekily. If possible, her grey eyes narrowed even more. She lashed out with a punch, but Jakob caught her fist easily. "You'll need to be quicker than that, Wise Girl."
"I'll make note of that, thunder head." Annabeth retorted, still giving him an annoyed look. Jakob chuckled before he released her fist and put an arm around her shoulders, squeezing her slightly in a hug. Annabeth's cheeks reddened as she was pressed against his front, able to feel the muscle beneath and the tanktop did nothing to hide his muscular body at all.
"Missed you, Annabeth." Jakob said genuinely, causing the daughter of Athena to smile.
"Missed you too, Jakob." She admitted before getting serious. "I assume you're here to see Andromeda."
Jakob nodded and explained his recent chat with Chiron. Annabeth nodded, looking as if she wasn't surprised by what she heard.
When he finished, Annabeth took a long breath. "Things aren't looking good, Jakob. We don't know how, but someone poisoned the tree."
Jakob's eyes widened at this before they narrowed. "Poisoned? Who could someone poison the tree?"
"We don't know. Chiron tried healing the tree but nothing seems to be working. The poison is old. Very old. We think it might have come from Tartarus." When she said the word 'Tartarus', she shivered slightly, which Jakob didn't blame her for. Speaking of Tartarus was like speaking of Helheim, or being warned about crossing the Bridge of the Damned.
"Tartarus, huh?" Jakob muttered. Wondering on who it was. A few seconds later, Jakob came up with an idea on who it could be. More like a fact. "Could it be Luke?" he suggested. He watched Annabeth wince at the name slightly, but still nodded.
"It's a definite possibility. He knows the area but I just can't understand why he would do that. That tree is all we have left of Thalia and Luke cared for her greatly. He would never do something to harm her memory." Annabeth said, unsure why her former friend would do this to their oldest friend.
"I don't know what to tell you, Annabeth. I only have my opinion on Luke after everything I've been told about him." Jakob said with a sigh.
"It's just just that, over past few months a lot of the unclaimed from the Hermes Cabin apparently began disappearing. During the night some of the wood nymphs claimed to see a group of demigods leave the camp with someone leading them. Though they never got a good look at who it was." Annabeth explained.
Jakob frowned and looked off for a moment, thinking. "He's using the demigods' bitterness to sway them to his side. The demigods that haven't been claimed by their parents, or have been claimed but were not seen as important. War is coming, and we're all going to need to get stronger and train."
"That's fair to say." Mimir said, speaking up for the first time. Jakob lifted the head out from under his coat and showed him to Annabeth. "Oh, hello Lady Annabeth, been a while."
"Good to see you too, Mimir." Annabeth said with a small smile before she looked at Jakob. "We should go check on Andie."
Jakob nodded with a grunt and placed Mimir back in his position, then the two demigods walked off.
The two demigods watched Andromeda play dodge ball with a couple of other school kids. Both of them were using their respective items of clothing to go invisible The coach looked very old, and not really interested in On the opposing team, there dumb looking kids that Jakob immediately labelled as jocks and bullies. Some of them even had their names stitched onto their T-shirts. How dumb could they be?
On Andromeda's team there were a couple of wimpy looking kids along with Andromeda. However, there was one big burly kid that looked more beefy than the dumbasses on the other team.
The kid looked big and stocky, as if he had one too many growth spurts when he was a kid, and this was the result. He had ratty brown hair and blue eyes. Jakob's observation was almost finished until he noticed that his image flickered a bit. Jakob's eyes widened as he concentrated on his sight, seeing that the boy's image ripple, until all that was left was a big, one-eyed monster that Jakob was familiar with.
He pointed to the boy. "That boy is a Cyclops."
"What?!" Annabeth gasped, alarmed now.
"I've been trained to use my eyes and notice everything, even illusions thanks to Loki, and the Mist is no different." Jakob explained then pointed at the boy again. "And his image rippled. He's a Cyclops,"
"Then we have to take him out!" Annabeth stated, about to leap out and kill the monster until Jakob put a hand in her way, stopping her. "What are you doing?!"
"Wait," Jakob said. He was obviously alarmed, but managed to remain calm. "I don't think that it's set out to kill anyone."
"How could you say that?! It's a cyclops. Their monsters. They always want to kill!" Annabeth whispered sharply. She probably would've yelled out loud but she didn't want to blow their cover.
"Did you forget that Andie is there?" Jakob countered. "She would obviously be able to see through the Mist and know that the cyclops is under a disguise. Have some faith in her."
"I think you're overestimating her," Annabeth said.
"And I think you're underestimating her," Jakob retorted. "I mean you can see him clearly now, can't you?"
Turning to the disguised monster, Annabeth squinted her eyes. "Yeah... I can see him somewhat."
"Exactly," Jakob said, nodding. "So if you can see him, then Andie obviously can."
"... I feel slightly insulted by that statement?" She asked, slightly irritated.
"I said nothing, you're just assuming." Jakob smirked at her.
They were about to continue talking but were interrupted by a loud scream. Both demigods turned to see that the dumb looking kids had grown in size. They were no longer kids. They were eight-foot-tall giants with wild eyes, pointy teeth, and hairy arms tattooed with snakes and hula women and Valentine hearts.
One of the normal looking kids dropped his ball. "Whoa! You're not from Detroit! Who..."
The other kids on the team started screaming and back-ing toward the exit, but the giant named Marrow Sucker threw a ball with deadly accuracy. It streaked past one wimpy kid just as he was about to leave and hit the door, slamming it shut like magic. The rest of the other kids banged on it desperately but it wouldn't budge.
"Let them go!" Andromeda yelled at the giants.
The one called Joe Bob growled at him. He had a tattoo on his biceps that said: JB luvs Babycakes. "And lose our tasty morsels? No, Daughter of the Sea God. We Laistrygonians aren't just playing for your death. We want lunch!"
"We have to help!" Annabeth said, about to blow their cover when Jakob grabbed her and pulled her back.
"No, I want to see how well she's been doing in training herself." Jakob said, curious to see if Andromeda had been training in her time away.
Annabeth was about to retort, but was interrupted by a loud bang. Both teens looked over to see one giant named Skull Eater throw his ball. Andromeda dove aside as the fiery bronze comet sailed past her shoulder. "Corey!" She screamed to her nerd like teammate.
The disguised cyclops pulled her out from behind the exercise mat just as the ball exploded against it, blasting the mat to smoking shreds.
"Run!" Andromeda told her teammates. "The other exit!"
They ran for the locker room, but with another wave of Joe Bob's hand, that door also slammed shut. "No one leaves unless you're out!" Joe Bob roared. "And you're not out until we eat you!" He launched his own fireball. Andromeda's teammates scattered as it blasted a crater in the gym floor.
Andromeda looked like she was reaching for Riptide, which she usually kept in her pocket, but since they were in gym and she was wearing her gym clothes…well she didn't have pockets and that was a bit of a problem.
Another fireball came right for him, but the cyclops pushed Andromeda out of way, the explosion still blew the water girl head over heels. She found herself sprawled on the gym floor, dazed from smoke, her tie-dyed T-shirt peppered with sizzling holes. Just across the centre line, two hungry giants were glaring down at her.
"Flesh!" they bellowed. "Hero flesh for lunch!" They both took aim.
"Andie needs help!" the cyclops yelled, and he jumped in front of Andromeda just as they threw their balls.
"Tyson!" Andromeda screamed, but it was too late.
Both balls slammed into him, wait no... he'd caught them. Somehow the cyclops named Tyson, had caught two fiery metal balls speeding toward him at a zillion miles an hour. Well it wasn't really surprising to the invisible demigods since they knew that cyclopes were fire-resistant. He sent them hurtling back toward their surprised owners, who screamed, "BAAAAAD!" as the bronze spheres exploded against their chests.
"Well, that is something." Mimir commented.
"That was pretty impressive and cool, not gonna lie." Jakob nodded in agreement.
Annabeth looked at him for a moment, then palmed her face. "Boys," she muttered.
The giants disintegrated in twin columns of flame - a sure sign they were monsters, all right.
"My brothers!" Joe Bob the Cannibal wailed. He flexed his muscles and his Babycakes tattoo rippled. "You will pay for their destruction!"
"Tyson!" Andromeda said. "Look out!"
Another comet hurtled toward them. Tyson just had time to swat it aside. It flew straight over the coach's head and landed in the bleachers with a huge BOOM! Jakob looked at the spectacle with a deadpanned expression. "How the hell does he not notice that?"
Kids were running around screaming, trying to avoid the sizzling craters in the floor. Others were banging on the door, calling for help. The main dumb kid stood petrified in the middle of the court, watching in disbelief as balls of death flew around him.
"Victory will be ours!" roared Joe Bob the Cannibal. "We will feast on your bones!" He and his friend all hefted those giant flaming balls and aimed for Andromeda and Tyson.
Jakob watched as Andromeda told Tyson to move. He was impressed with the girl's dodging skill but she did have a few near misses. Then, when Tyson punched the one called Skull Eater, the giant went down pretty easily, however, another one of those balls came right at the tall kid.
The ball caught Tyson square in the chest. He slid the length of the court and slammed into the back wall, which cracked and partially crumbled on top of him, making a hole right onto Church Street. They couldn't see how Tyson could still be alive, but he only looked dazed. The bronze ball was smoking at his feet. Tyson tried to pick it up, but he fell back, stunned, into a pile of cinder blocks.
"Well!" Joe Bob gloated. "I'm the last one standing! I'll have enough meat to bring Babycakes a doggie bag!"
Jakob ran out of cover, leaped and brought the Leviathan Axe into the giant's side, causing him to roar in pain.
"Wonder how the Giants would feel about you." Jakob mused before he kicked Joe Bob down, then blasted him in the chest with lightning.
"J-Jakob?" Andromeda blinked in surprise at seeing her friend... and the boy she had a crush on, after a while.
"Hey Andie... you're getting sloppy." Jakob noted. "Didn't I tell you to train last I saw you?"
"I... sorry." Andromeda winced. Jakob didn't exactly have much time to teach her last year before they had to go find Zeus' Master Bolt. But she knew he was eventually going to continue their training at some point.
"Who the hell are-" Joe Bob was cut off when Jakob decapitated him with the Leviathan Axe. He immediately collapsed into gold dust.
One of the dumb looking kids who'd been standing there dumbfounded the whole time, finally came to his senses. He blinked at Annabeth and Jakob. "Who is that guy?... And that's the girl-"
Annabeth punched him in the nose and knocked him flat. "And you," she told him, "lay off my friend." Jakob just laughed at the scene.
The gym was in flames. Kids were still running around screaming. Andromeda heard sirens wailing and a garbled voice over the intercom. Through the glass windows of the exit doors, they could see one man, probably the headmaster, wrestling with the lock, a crowd of teachers piling up behind him.
"Annabeth, Jakob..." Andromeda stammered. "How did you... how long have you..."
"I got here, like, a couple minutes ago," Jakob said. He pointed his thumb at Annabeth. "Dunno about her."
"Pretty much all morning." She sheathed her bronze knife. "I've been trying to find a good time to talk to you, but you were never alone."
Andromeda nodded, and then the word's Annabeth said caught up to her and her face grew red, "The shadow I saw this morning-that was-oh my gods, you were looking in my bedroom window?"
Jakob raised an eyebrow at this, a look of amusement coming onto his face before he snickered. "Wow, didn't think you two swung that way."
"Shut up!" Annabeth yelled, red in the face as she punched him in the shoulder. "There's no time to explain!" She snapped to Andromeda, though she still looked a little red-faced. "I just didn't want to-"
"There!" a woman screamed. The doors burst open and the adults came pouring in.
"Meet us outside," Annabeth told me. "And him." She pointed to Tyson, who was still sitting dazed against the wall. Annabeth gave him a look of distaste that Andromeda didn't quite understand. However, she didn't have to worry about Jakob because he looked at Tyson with a little interest. "You'd better bring him."
"Hurry!" Jakob said and ran off with Annabeth.
The duo stood on Church Street to wait for their fellow demigod and his new friend. Soon, they saw the figure of Andromeda running to them in her gym clothes and Riptide in pen form in her hands, followed by Tyson.
"So, mind telling us why there's a cyclops with you?" Jakob asked seriously, crossing his arms.
"What?" Andromeda asked in shock, glancing at Tyson then back at Jakob. "He's not a cyclops."
"Need to work on your perception through the mist." Jakob muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Where's did you find him?" Annabeth asked, pointing to Tyson without looking at him.
Andromeda knew she made her peace with the girl last year but glaring at her friend like she was doing was a little harsh. And she was wondering why Jakob called him a cyclops. "He's my friend," Andromeda told her.
"Is he homeless?"
"What does that have to do with anything? He can hear you, you know. Why don't you ask him?"
She looked surprised. "He can talk?"
"I talk," Tyson admitted. "You are pretty."
"Well, damn," Jakob whistled. "He's practically harmless. Who knew?"
"Not all cyclops are monsters bent on killing you, you know?" Mimir reminded.
Andromeda looked confused as Annabeth screamed, "Ah! Gross!" stepping away from him as he tried to touch her hair.
Andromeda couldn't believe she was being so rude. She examined Tyson's hands, which she was sure must've been badly scorched by the flaming dodge balls, but they looked fine-grimy and scarred, with dirty fingernails the size of potato chips-but they always looked like that. "Tyson," She said in disbelief. "Your hands aren't even burned."
"Of course not," Annabeth muttered. "I'm surprised the Laistrygonians had the guts to attack you with him around." Tyson seemed fascinated by Annabeth's blond hair. He tried to touch it, but she smacked his hand away.
"Laistry-what?" Andromeda asked.
"Laistrygonians. The monsters in the gym. They're a race of giant cannibals who live in the far north. Odysseus ran into them once." Jakob explained.
"Strange, I've never seen them as far south as New York." Annabeth mused.
"Laistry-I can't even say that. What would you call them in English?" asked Andromeda.
She thought about what to call them for a moment. "Canadians," she decided. "Now come on, we have to get out of here. Jakob, could you fly us there?"
"I am not your damn plane to fly." Jakob huffed. "Doubt we'd get there in one piece with Zeus and his temper tantrums." The sky thundered but Jakob just dismissed it with a wave of his hand. "But we do need to get to Camp Half-Blood. Now."
"The police'll be after me." Andromeda said.
"That's the least of our problems," Annabeth shook her head. "Have you been having dreams?"
"The dreams... about Grover?" Andromeda asked.
"Wait, wait," Jakob said, holding up his hands. "What's this about Grover?"
"In my dream, I see Grover being chased in Florida by a giant… thing."
"What thing?" Jakob asked, worried. "Like an actual giant or a monster or something?"
"I-I don't know," Andromeda said, unsure. "Wait. What were you dreaming about?" She suddenly asked the blond girl.
Her eyes looked stormy, like her mind was racing a million miles an hour. "Camp," she said at last. "Big trouble at camp."
"My mom was saying the same thing! But what kind of trouble?"
"I don't know the full thing. Something's wrong. We have to get there right away. Monsters have been chasing us all the way from Virginia, trying to stop me. Have you had a lot of attacks?"
Andromeda shook her head. "None all year... until today."
"I've been busy with something else, so not really." Jakob shrugged.
"None? But how..." Her eyes drifted to Tyson. "Oh."
"What do you mean, 'oh'?" Andromeda asked, a bit annoyed at her answer.
"You seriously don't know what we're talking about?" Jakob asked, exasperated. "I literally just called him what he is!"
Tyson raised his hand like he was still in class. "Canadians in the gym called Andie something... Daughter of the Sea God?" At this, the three demigods exchanged looks.
"Big guy," Andromeda said, "You ever hear those old stories about the Greek gods? Like Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena-"
"Yes," Tyson said.
"Well... those gods are still alive. They kind of follow Western Civilization around, living in the strongest countries, so like now they're in the U.S. And sometimes they have kids with mortals. Kids called half-bloods."
"Yes," Tyson said, like he was still waiting for his friend to get to the point.
"Uh, well, Annabeth, Jakob , and I are half-bloods," Andromeda said. "We're like... heroes-in-training. And whenever monsters pick up our scent, they attack us. That's what those giants were in the gym. Monsters."
"Yes."
"So... you believe me?" Andromeda said, a little put off that her tall friend was taking this all calmly and understood everything.
Tyson nodded. "But you are... Daughter of the Sea God?"
"Yeah," Andromeda admitted. "My dad is Poseidon."
A siren wailed. A police car raced past the alley.
"We don't have time for this." Annabeth said. "We'll talk in the taxi."
"A taxi all the way to camp?" Andromeda said. "You know how much money-"
"Trust me. Jakob can't take all of us to camp. So this is the only way."
Andromeda hesitated. "What about Tyson?" She imagined escorting her giant friend into Camp Half-Blood. If he freaked out on a regular playground with regular bullies, how would he act at a training camp for demigods? On the other hand, the cops would be looking for us. "We can't just leave him," She decided. "He'll be in trouble, too."
Jakob sighed, coming to a decision. "Then he can come with us." Annabeth did not look happy, but agreed none the less. Andromeda idly wondered why Annabeth was not happy about seeing Tyson, but she would worry about it later, right now they had to get out of here.
And I think I'll end it there for now. I could've gone on with more... but decided not to.
