Chapter 30: Zombies:
Dr. Robertson's POV:
It was Monster Movie Night. Miko's idea. Steel was really getting into it.
"Wow, so the monster is made of blood," says Steel, "this is fascinating."
"I'm terribly sorry but and completely ridiculous," says Brightmore, "Such an abominatiohn could ne'ah be in the Creature World."
"I just don't understand how a girl could fall in love with a creature that wants to eat her," says Twilight.
"That's the beauty of horror movies," says Miko, "sometimes, you don't get it, it just scares you."
"That creature terrifies me, and I love it," says Steel, "maybe that's why she loves the creature."
"Or she's fie ah foohl," says Brightmore.
Director Flag enters. "You guys got a mission."
"Awe man," says Miko, "I really wanted to see how it ends."
"The kid eats the monster," says Director Flag, "now follow me."
Miko was not happy with the spoiler.
. . .
We were all in the hanger.
"You're all needed in New Orleans..."
"Question."
"Yes Steel?"
"When you said 'all'?"
"Steel, you're not an agent..."
"Can I still come? Please? Please? Please? Please? Please?"
The Director was exasperated. "Fine."
"Yes!"
"Duke..."
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on him."
"Good. Now as for your mission. There have been strange attacks. The kind that will require Unit: E."
"In other words," says Jack, "really strange."
"Exactly."
"We're on it," says Duke.
. . .
We arrived at New Orleans.
"Heck of a place," says Miko.
"Alright, Team, let's look around," says Duke.
"No need," says Steel, "because something's coming this way."
You won't believe it. I can barely believe it. I don't want to believe it. It's a group of zombies. The others fought them off, but not me. I was frozen with fear. I always thought zombies were just a work of fiction, but I also always had a fear of them. Duke, Jack, and Miko used their NERF blasters. Brightmore summoned Ra-Vu. Twilight used her magic. Raf and Steel used their maximal powers. The zombies all ran off.
"So just to make sure," says Miko, "were those..."
"Don't say it," I said, "I have a fear of zombies."
"Don't worry, Dr. Robertson," says Steel, "they ran off and I'm sure they're now afraid of us. Unless it's like in Miko's movie were they wanna eat us more. Well, you guys, I'm pretty sure metal is not on their menu..."
"Steel," says Duke, "not a good time. Dr. Robertson, why don't you stay in the jet. Spike, keep him company."
"Yes Sir," says Spike.
"The rest of us are going Zombie hunting."
. . .
I know you probably think I'm a coward, but wouldn't you want to hide from zombies? There is one thing I do want to know. Where did they come from? Anyway, Spike was showing me this game called 'Tirek's Revenge.' I have to be honest; I think that Tirek would be scarier than those zombies.
Miko's POV:
So, we're going around asking people if they've seen anything weird. Steel is wearing a coat and hat because he kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Of course, Twilight can be purple and out in public. Yeah, that's fair. Anyway, we asked the people what the zombies looked like.
"Abominations."
"Nightmares."
"Mah sister-in-law."
We also asked what the zombies smell like.
"Garbage."
"The sewers."
"Mah sister-in-law."
We also learned that these zombies always come from the bayou.
"Thets whayer mah wahf introduced may tuh her sister."
I think his sister-in-law has problems.
. . .
We arrived at the bayou.
"Keep an eye out for any zombies," says Duke.
"I'm terribly sorry but and that man's sister-in-law, appaaarently," says Brightmore... wait, did he tell a joke?
Jack, Raf, and I were checking then some zombies came.
"Where's Blade when you need him," I asked.
We fought off the zombies and then they left. Duke takes a look.
"I'm terribly sorry but one think one found out where they came..." Brightmore fell to the ground.
Dr. Robertson's POV:
Just as I was finally catching up to Spike's high score, the rest of the team arrived.
"We got a man down," says Steel as he puts Brightmore on the table.
I studied him and learned he had a bite mark.
"One of the zombies got to him and now he's gonna become one," says Miko.
"Please don't say things like that," I said.
"I saw a factory," says Duke, "I think that might have a connection. Raf, Twilight, you two stay here to help Dr. Robertson save Brightmore. The rest of us are going zombie hunting."
Duke's POV:
We were in the factory. There was something odd about this place, but I couldn't put my finger on it. As we were walking, Jack realized something.
"Where's Miko?"
Miko popped up and scared Jack and Steel.
"Sorry guys," she said, "couldn't resist."
"It's a good thing I don't have a bladder," says Steel, "otherwise I could've wet myself."
"Well, look who's here."
We all turned around and saw a young bald man. I recognized him.
"Mindbender!"
"I'm glad you remember me, Duke. I never forgot how you and your pals ruined my life! It was perfect. Me doing experiments for Cobra Commander. I was happy. Then you had to take us down!"
"What happened to your hair?"
"When I was working on my new experiment... I kind of lost my hair."
"Who is this guy," asks Miko.
"He's the scientist who created those bio-vipers," I said.
"And now I'm making zombies. If Cobra can't rule the world, then I guess Dr. Mindbender will have to take care of that. Oh, and by the way, I can use this remote to control my zombies. Come out boys and girls!"
The zombies came out.
Dr. Robertson's POV:
When Raf, Twilight, and I were checking on Brightmore, he was gone, and Spike was hiding in the pantry.
"He was really scary," says Spike, "but at least he has a personality now."
"This is a problem," I said, "the three of us are the smartest members of the team. Brightmore will see us as breakfast, lunch, and dinner."
"Or he'll eat us at the same time," says Raf.
"Dr. Brightmore," says Twilight, "you need to fight your irrational fear..."
"Irrational? He's a literal zombie!"
"Let's split up and find him," says Twilight.
"She wasn't paying attention to the movies, was she," asks Raf.
. . .
I was walking down a hall in the jet. All I have to do is think about what they did in those zombie movies... that I was never brave enough to watch. This was my worst nightmare... no, turning into Multi-Farious and hurting innocent people was my worst nightmare. I tried calling Raf.
"Raf, can you hear me?"
Nothing.
"Twilight, can you hear me?"
Nothing. I hope they're not dead. But if they are, I hope they will stay that way. I turned around and saw Zombrightmore, and he attacked me. He had me pinned to the ground, and I was panicking.
Duke's POV:
We were fighting Mindbender's zombies.
"You don't even know how this works. There are special nanobots and they can infect other people threw the traditional biting and the only way to reverse it is if you destroyed this remote. Too bad you guys can't take advantage of the fact that I just told you everything!"
"So, you didn't notice me, the metal man," says Steel.
"Okay, how did I miss that?"
Steel went through the zombies, and, because of his metal hide, they couldn't infect him. Steel then grabbed the remote from Mindbender's hand and destroyed it.
"Yeah, this is on me," says Mindbender.
The zombies were all turning back to normal.
Dr. Robertson's POV:
Just as I thought it was all over to me...
"What is going ohn," asks Brightmore, "Please tell myself One wasn't going to kiss you."
"That's the option I would've preferred," I said.
. . .
Mindbender was being taken in.
"Good job Steel," says Director Flag, "you were a big help."
"Does this mean I can join the team?"
"I'll think about it."
After the experience I had, I think I can handle anything. I'm sure I won't be so afraid of zombies...
"ZOMBIE!" I ran into the jet.
"Thets mah sister-in law."
In the next chapter, the team will learn that Rook is working with Cobra Commander.
