Chapter 37: Turncoat:
Duke's POV:
I was at the White House. Cobra Commander was there.
"So, are you ready," he asks.
"Don't worry, I got this."
"Have fun." Cobra Commander then leaves.
"This is gonna be good."
Steel's POV:
We were still trying to figure out what happened to Duke. It would help if we knew where the Society of Ultimate Villainy was hidden. Then the director came.
"You guys are needed at the White House," he says.
"Sir, we still need to find Duke," says Twilight.
"The President was just assassinated by someone that fits Duke's description."
"That... sounds important," I said.
. . .
We were at the White House. Dr. Robertson was taking a look at the President's body.
"So, what happened," asks the First Lady.
"He was shot," says Dr. Robertson.
"Can you describe the guy who did this again," asks Roadblock.
"He wore a combat uniform, with a beige vest over a gray and olive short-sleeved shirt with shoulder pads, with olive drab cargo pants."
"That does sound like Duke," says Miko.
"Okay, since Duke's not here to say it," says Roadblock, "let's split up."
. . .
Dr. Robertson, Raf, and I were in the Lincoln Bedroom.
"I doubt Duke could be hiding here," I said.
"What do you think happened to him," asks Raf.
"My guess is the Society did something to him," says Dr. Robertson.
"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh guys... I started... "that wall is opening..."
We were then zapped and couldn't move.
"Can't have you guys ruining my fun," says Duke.
Twilight's POV:
Miko and I were in the kitchen.
"So, you think Cobra Commander turned Duke to some kind of zombie," Miko asks.
"It's possible," I said.
When Miko opens the fridge, a laser comes out and paralyzes both of us.
"This place has secret passages everywhere," says Duke.
Jack's POV:
Brightmore, Roadblock, and I were walking down the halls.
"I thought I heard something," says Roadblock.
"Hello old friend," says Duke.
We all turned around and saw Duke.
"Duke, what are you doing," asks Roadblock.
"Just following my new orders," said Duke, "I'm done with the whole 'Real American Hero' thing."
Just as Brightmore's about to summon a creature, we all get paralyzed.
"Now if you excuse me, I should be going." Duke walks away.
Steel's POV:
Raf and Dr. Robertson were still paralyzed, but I started to move. I guess Duke's laser doesn't last too long on robotic bodies. I'm not sure that makes any sense, but I'm going with it. Anyway, I was free and I'm ready to stop our friend.
. . .
I was going through the halls looking for Duke. It was like something out of a horror movie. Those are more fun to watch than to experience. I looked in each door, and they were empty. This is starting to scare me. I then heard something. I looked and it was just the President's dog. I then continued on my way.
. . .
I was in the cross hall. So far, everything seems normal, except all the Secret Service men were paralyzed. I guess Duke only came to kill the President. I was looking around for Duke. It was quiet, too quiet. I then heard footsteps, and I started blasting. Turns out, it was the housekeeper.
"My bad," I said. I then continued on my way.
. . .
I was then in the Green Room. Everything seemed fine here. So far, no sign of Duke. I'm starting to wonder if he left. I then heard something. I blasted at it. It was a secret service agent.
"Oops again." If Duke doesn't take the White House down, I'm worried I might.
. . .
I was in the Map Room, and once again, no sign of Duke. I heard someone was coming. This time, I hid to make sure it was Duke. The man was wearing a military uniform. So, I blasted him. Turns out, it was the general.
"Sorry Sir," I said as I saluted.
. . .
I was in the Oval Office. It seemed fine here, but then I looked outside and saw someone heading for a copter. It looked like a secret service agent, so I figured it might be safe. Then a wall opened and a man in his underwear came out.
"Sir, why were you in the wall in your underwear?"
"Some guy jumped me and took my clothes and hid me in there!"
"Did this man look like a soldier with a scar?"
"Hey yeah!"
I then jumped out the window.
. . .
Duke, in his disguise, was on his way to the copter.
"Stop right there, Duke," I said.
"How did you unfreeze," he asks.
"There are some advantages to being metal," I said, "I think. I'm still not a scientist."
Duke and I then fought. I tried not to hurt him. After all, he's not in his right mind. Duke had different weapons supplied to him by Cobra Commander. I then turned to my Scarab Mode. I grabbed Duke, but he tazed me. He then kicked me off. Duke then got on the copter and flew away. Luckily, during the fight, I took his laser.
. . .
First, I unfroze Jack, Brightmore, and Roadblock.
. . .
Next, I unfroze Miko and Twilight.
. . .
Finally, I unfroze Raf and Dr. Robertson.
"Duke got away," I said.
"It's not over," says Dr. Robertson, "we will get him back."
. . .
We were back at Unit: E HQ.
I met with Director Flagg.
"You wanted to see me, Sir," I asked.
"Steel, I think it's time to make it official. What do you say, Agent Steel?"
"Really? I get to be an official agent? Oh, thank you Sir. I just wish the whole team would be here."
"I know what you mean," says Director Flagg, "I'm sure some day, you're going to get him back. We just need the right opportunity."
. . .
I went back to the others and told them the good news. We then took the time to celebrate. The director's right. One day, we will get Duke back and take Cobra Commander down.
Cobra Commander's POV:
We were in our hideout.
"I gotta say," says Rook, "Duke's been alot more interesting since he's been on our side."
"We have more work to do. Let's look for Atomic Man."
In the next chapter, the team will meet Atomic Man and have to save him from Duke. Also, the President is based on the one from the G.I. Joe movies.
