FOREWORD
Ah, The Eminence in Shadow. This glorious pisstake on the isekai genre captured my imagination pretty quickly. Yet one of its greatest strengths, the conflict between Cid's delusions and reality, as well as his rather selfish actions towards even his own subordinates, did grate at times. So, I wondered, what if Shadow Garden was led by a competent and sane person who wasn't a narcissistic, delusional near-sociopath of a chuunibyou?
My first published effort, Ískios, was a crossover with Batman, with Jason Todd taking Cid's place. But my heart was set on doing a Potterverse crossover, mostly because it's my favourite franchise to write fanfic for, but also because, prior to this story, there were no Potterverse crossovers with The Eminence in Shadow.
My initial attempts at what eventually became this story got something of a backlash when I posted them in the Cauldron. Some of the criticisms were valid, if delivered in a needlessly antagonistic manner, while some were just flames. I tried to take the more valid criticisms on board, and while my story did have some promise, I didn't feel it had enough. Thankfully, after enough revisions, I feel confident enough to post this as its own story.
I decided to do it as a WBWL fic because it suited who took Cid's place, and not as a reincarnation. What's more, I decided to do Neville as the WBWL for a change. While I did that for a Tokyo Ghoul crossover, Janus, I was inspired by WolfgangNH's excellent WBWL fic, Duel of Fate, in how to do an antagonistic WBWL Neville. So, thank you to WolfgangNH for inspiring me.
Anyway, time for the usual disclaimers. Firstly, there will be spoilers for both The Eminence in Shadow, and the Potterverse.
Secondly, there will be annotations, heavy annotations, and bellyachers will be treated with all due contempt.
Thirdly, for language, violence, and sexual references, this is an M-rated work.
