Hello! I'm updating a lot sooner than expected, but I've got a lot of free time on my hands after my summer programs. So anyway, I've granted you another chapter. Thank you again MR.D0VE for reviewing, your evergoing support will not be forgotten.
Anyway, without further notification, here's chapter 8! Enjoy!
Chase smiled, glad that he had at least pulled off that peculiar ability.
"Wow," Nya breathed, looking closely at him. "That's…unusual. I'm pretty sure that you can read people's minds, but only when touching the same water as them. Huh, interesting. Have you confronted Sensei Wu?"
"Uh, no. I…don't really want to ask him. Just yet, I mean. I was wondering if you could help me with the water part of my powers?"
"Of course." Then her face went into a deep frown, in careful thought. "Hmm, if you can't seem to do it all the time…" then she trailed off.
"Well, that's why I need help. I want to understand my powers. And there's no better person to ask than the current master of water."
"Or Sensei Wu," Nya said, blushing and trying to not take all the credit.
"Well, yeah, but he's not the master of water, is he?"
"No, I guess not." She stared at the pond for a bit, then turned back to Chase. "I had similar issues to you at first. At first, I couldn't control the water at all times and in the way I wanted, which really frustrated me. I think that anyone new to elemental powers has similar problems."
"How'd you fix your problems?" Chase asked.
"I trained a lot. Sensei gave me a lot of weird tests. But eventually, I got it down. Here and there, I'd get good results, but it wasn't consistent. I'd say, work hard to master your element for about a month, and you'll see a lot of progress."
"Okay, but what kinds of training do I do?"
"Well, you can join me and the others in our normal obstacle course and combat training if you'd like. Also spend a lot of time by the pond. Sometimes, the place you get your first hint of elemental power is usually the place where you will feel it the most at first."
"Okay. Sounds like a plan."
The two then saw bright lights moving towards them.
"They're back," Nya said, standing up. Cole and Lloyd jumped out of their vehicles and flipped off their masks.
"How'd it go?" Nya asked, running over to them. They looked out of breath, and Chase was very intrigued.
Lloyd held his hand up, motioning that they needed to sit down before they explained anything.
The foursome walked inside the bounty to the smell of home cooked ramen and snickerdoodles.
Cole and Lloyd were the last to drag their feet into the kitchen, being too unusually tired to pick up their pace.
At the smell of the food, Cole perked up and almost completely abandoned his state of exhaustion.
"M-m-mmm," Cole hummed, his mouth drooling due to his hunger. The pair probably hadn't eaten all day.
"You're back!" Jay said, greeting them with a wide grin. "How'd it go?"
Lloyd chuckled.
"What?" Jay asked, sarcastically offended.
"Nya literally said the same thing."
"Oh. Well, how did it go?"
"Hold up." Cole put his finger up, gesturing for them to hold back their questions for a bit. He purposefully took his time seating himself and adjusting his table items for the sole reason of annoying Jay. And it was working.
"Can you just tell us already?"
"Yes, we will. We just want everyone to be seated and listening first," Lloyd said. At that, everyone seated themselves hurriedly and looked straight at the mission pair, who were seated side by side.
Chase sat down as well, although he didn't know what the mission was all about since he had spent his day at school.
Lloyd opened his mouth to speak, then suddenly shifted his attention to Chase. "Before we start explaining, how was school Chase?"
Chase was surprised. "Um, good," he said shyly, looking down at his feet and rather embarrassed that the attention had been shifted to him momentarily.
"Good," Lloyd said. He grinned. Then he turned back to the ninja and Sensei Wu, grabbing back their attention. "So, the mind stone wasn't retrieved–" Lloyd began but was cut off.
"Why not?" Kai asked. "Sorry to interrupt, but that was literally your mission."
"Garmadon's forces. They call themselves the Oni League."
Chase was confused but decided to just let the story unravel itself through the tongues of the ninja.
"So," Lloyd continued, glancing briefly at Cole, who was stuffing his face. "We couldn't get the mind rock. They were puppy-guarding it."
"What about the other one?" Nya asked. There seemed to be a certain urgency in her voice.
"Don't worry, Nya, we got that one."
"Which one?" Chase couldn't help himself asking.
Lloyd looked at him, and Chase could tell he was trying to cover up the exasperation in his voice and features. "There were two special items we were sent to retrieve. The mind stone and the water crystal." Chase nodded, a puzzle in his head gradually coming together. Mind and water seemed to be his two powers, but they were mishmashed somehow. Did this have something to do with him?
"Unfortunately, we couldn't get the mind stone, but the water crystal was unknown to the Oni League and even to Garmadon, therefore it was unguarded and we could get it."
"What's the point of these two items?" Chase asked, feeling bad for interrupting once more in a conversation not meant for him, yet unable to contain his burning curiosity.
"Well," Lloyd started. "Each element has one or more element jewels, which are essentially physical items of the element. If someone gets hold of one, as long as they have it, they are technically in control of the element and the current master of the element's powers are faulty." Now Chase got why Nya was so concerned about the retrieval of the water crystal.
"Is there more than one more mind or water?" Chase questioned.
"For water, yes. For mind, well, I'm not sure. We think so, but we don't know how to find it."
"Where did you find the mind stone and water crystal?"
"Gee, you sure have a lot of questions," Kai said through a mouthful of soup and noodles.
Chase shrugged apologetically. "Sorry."
"That's okay," Lloyd said. "To answer your question, we got the mind stone from the temple of mind energy, also known as the Temple of Neuron Light, where the mind master goes for a mind energy transfer and so on. But it was mostly broken. As for the water crystal, it was in an underwater temple known as the Coral Cove. It was unguarded, as I said before, so we could get it with no trouble." Chase nodded, taking in every bit of information. Nya glanced at Chase, as if comprehending what Chase had already theorized.
"Here," Cole said, swallowing as he pulled something from the satchel around his neck. It was the water crystal.
"Woah," Jay gasped, peering closely at its magical look. Everyone was taken aback by this single piece of beauty.
Nya reached over and clasped it in her hands, admiring its shiny, translucent quality. She cradled it in her arms. Chase could tell she was intending to keep this as safe as possible because in the wrong hands, her powers wouldn't work quite right, which might lead to dangerous consequences.
"Do we have to get the mind rock?" Chase asked, not taking his eyes from the water element jewel.
"Yes, or else the master of the mind would have faulty elemental energy."
"What about all of the other elemental jewels?"
"They're still uncovered by everyone. The locations of the water and mind ones were recently discovered and were the only ones to be discovered. All of the others are still hidden, but I'm sure the evil forces are on a rampage to find them." Chase nodded.
After dinner and cake, Nya went straight to her room and put the element jewel there. Chase thought that maybe that wasn't the safest place for the jewel, but he assumed there were some secret hiding spaces she could hide them in.
Chase spent the next few days training after school with the ninja, but his mind was not present most of the time, having been thinking about the mind and water element jewels and if they somehow had something to do with him.
The ninja went on various missions in search of the mind stone, but they always came back empty.
On one cloudy September morning, Chase was downstairs eating breakfast with the others when Nya came down in a panic.
"What's wrong?" Kai asked, concern evident in his voice. But Nya didn't seem to hear him. She searched everywhere in the kitchen.
"Well, if you tell us what you're looking for, maybe we can help," Jay offered. But Nya wasn't listening.
Nya looked around for a bit longer, then finally turned to make eye contact with the curious and concerned group awaiting her answer.
She took a deep breath, then finally said, "the water crystal. It's…gone."
That was chapter 8, I hope you enjoyed it. I'm ending them on cliffies, hope you don't mind. Anyway, thanks for reading. Please review, favorite, or follow, anything like that. Thanks for tuning in and have a nice day!
See ya in the next one.
