Heeeey guys! I'm with another chapter, so please enjoy! I don't really have much to say, except that I can probably post chapters more frequently now, because I'm on summer break. Thank you so much viewers and especially MR.D0VE for showing their support.
Without further notice, enjoy chapter 9!
"Gone?" All the ninja said at the same time. Nya nodded.
"How is it gone?" Kai asked, worry etching his voice.
"I don't know," she said, her voice shaking as it tried to gain control over her emotions. "I put it right where I thought no one would find it. Apparently I was wrong." Her shoulders slouched, and Chase felt a pang of pity for her.
"Don't worry," Kai said, putting a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We'll find it."
"Will we, though?" she snapped at him, forcefully jerking his hand off. "Will we? Because last I checked, it was missing. Whoever took it would keep it a safe distance from us. I mean, how did it even go missing?" She looked at all of us, rage burning in her dark eyes. Whenever she broke out, which was whenever something pissed her off because of the feeling that everything that went wrong was her own fault, all the boy ninja got very scared at her for the moment.
Chase could see Jay edging away and Lloyd and Cole looking down, afraid to make eye contact, while Zane just stood there, unaffected.
But Kai looked the most hurt. He was used to his sister snapping at him, but normally it was for another, less serious cause. He averted his gaze and took a step back, and Nya's expression instantly changed from fury to guilt.
Then, as if feeling remorse for her unpredictable actions, she said, "look, I"m sorry. It just…happened so suddenly, and I don't even know how." She sighed harshly, hanging her head. She opened her mouth to speak once more, but was interrupted.
"And you're just worried about your powers, I know," Kai finished, a look of understanding passing over his face. Nya nodded.
"Well, then that'll be our next mission," Lloyd suggested.
"What about the mind stone?" Chase asked.
"That can wait," Lloyd replied. "At least none of us here have mind powers." Chase looked to Nya, who looked straight back at him, and he knew they were both thinking the same thing. It's a possibility that Chase had a connection to the elemental power of the mind. But they wouldn't reveal that to the other ninja, not yet at least.
"We'll start looking today. Nya can take Chase to school, while the rest of us look."
"Shouldn't I come?" Nya asked. "I mean, it's the elemental jewel of water after all, isn't it?"
"True. You can catch up to us when you get back."
"How will I know where you are?"
"Here, take this." Lloyd handed her a GPS tracker. "It has our location. Just follow the red dot. Got it?" Nya nodded.
Chase rushed upstairs to get his bag and get dressed into comfy sweats and a hoodie. He was driven to school in Nya's car, which wasn't nearly as cool as the lightning bike, but it would do.
"Have fun, okay?" she said when they arrived.
"I will," Chase replied. He gave her a quick hug, then entered the school. He saw Nya drive off at probably the highest speed her car would go. The school was very empty. He glanced at the time and realized that it wasn't quite time for school to start. He still had fifteen minutes.
To pass the time, he wandered the halls of the school and began to see more and more kids show up.
As he was walking down one of the farther halls of his school, he noticed a very narrow and unfamiliar hall branching off of the one he was currently in.
He peered down it hesitantly and saw a girl sitting on the floor. It was Kara, he realized. She was reading a comic book very intensely, her eyes trained on the pictures and words. She was so focused in fact, that she didn't notice Chase approach her.
"Kara?" Chase asked. She looked very startled and quickly closed the comic book, shoving it in her open bookbag.
"Oh, Chase!" she greeted him with rather fake joy. "Hi, didn't even see you there." She hit her hand to her forehead.
"What are you doing down here?"
"Oh, I just needed some quiet time."
"But…the school's practically empty right now." Kara looked nervous, and she began chewing her lip.
"Um, yeah, I just didn't want any noise when people started arriving." She sounded unconvincing to Chase, who was beginning to suspect things.
"Well, what were you doing?"
"Oh, um, I was reading a comic. The latest series, actually. The third book was published two days ago."
Chase frowned. He was one expert on comics, even if he never was able to read them. "No, the third book was published a month ago. Wait, are you talking about The Legend of King Cobra?"
Kara nodded. "Yeah, I think so."
"Well, that's not actually the most recent one. Jay had a whole collection of comics. The most recent one was Galaxy Warriors. That was published last week." Chase was really getting suspicious. Kara clearly didn't know her comics, meaning she didn't even like them, which meant she was up to something else. But what?
Chase felt as if he couldn't trust her anymore. But he thought maybe he was jumping to conclusions too quickly, so he decided to just tell her about the comics he knew and their release dates.
Maybe Kara just had trouble remembering all the facts. He decided to let all his untrusting thoughts go and head to his first period with her. If something was up, he'd figure it out sooner or later.
OooooooooooO
Nya bolted down the streets of Ninjago city, checking her GPS every once and a while to make sure she was on the right track.
After she had dropped Chase off at school, she had switched out her vehicle for a ninja one back at the bounty.
The ninja on the mission seemed to be on the outskirts of the city, which was where Nya was headed. She didn't quite know why they were headed there, but she pursued their location until she spotted them in the hazy distance, looking more than ever like a mishmash of colors.
She skidded to a stop and hopped out of her vehicle greeting them quickly before asking them what they were doing at his specific location.
No one seemed to have any clue where the crystal was, which frustrated everyone.
They decided that their search was doing no good, and also came to the conclusion that they would pick it up tomorrow.
Realizing there was still two hours until Chase had to be picked up, Nya walked into her room and lay on her bed. And that's when she noticed something. It was a piece of cloth somehow suspended on the corner of her ceiling. She never remembered putting something there, but if she did, how was it staying up?
Feeling hope rise, she climbed onto her bed and removed the cloth. To her surprise and horror, she found a security camera installed in that very spot.
She racked her brain, trying to remember installing a camera, but couldn't find any memory of the occasion. And even if she did install it, who would have covered it? She was positive this was how the water crystal was stolen.
OooooooooooO
Chase nearly dozed off in history, it was so boring. The only thing that caught his attention was not even a part of history class. Something was ringing very quietly, but he could hear it. It sounded like a phone ringing for a call. And it was coming from Kara's bag.
She raised her hand, and Mr. Motts called on her. "Yes, Kara? Is this an answer to my question?"
"Oh, no, sorry, mister, um, my mom's calling, and I should answer it, or else she'll get worried."
"Doesn't your mom know this is during school hours?"
"I'm sure she does, mister, but, um, it's an emergency, or else she wouldn't be calling."
Mr. Motts sighed. "Very well. Take your phone call." Then he turned back to the class. As Kara exited, she quietly thanked the teacher for letting her go.
Chase, almost positive something was up, raised his hand as well, but with a different excuse. "Um, I have to go to the bathroom."
Mr. Motts sighed even more heavily. "What is it with all these excuses?" He sighed again. "Very well, go ahead." He sounded reluctant, but Chase didn't waste a single moment to leave the room.
He pursued Kara, who, to his annoyance, entered the girl's bathroom. He stationed himself outside, pressing his ear to the entrance. Luckily, he could hear Kara talking from inside the bathroom.
"What is it, mom?" Chase was suddenly confused. She had been acting so strangely and had been insistent on leaving the history classroom, but all this time, she was just calling her mom?
"Uh-huh," she continued, sounding casual. "Wait, really? That's great news!" What was great news? Chase dearly wanted to know.
"Okay, see you after school. Love you, bye." She hung up, and Chase heard footsteps coming towards him. He quickly ran towards the boy's bathroom and pretended as if he was just walking out of it. She then exited the girl's bathroom, and they crossed paths.
She looked extremely suspicious but didn't say anything.
Chase kept his eye on her throughout the rest of the school day, convinced that something was up. And whatever it was, he would find it out, whatever it took.
That was chapter 9. Sort of a double mystery, so I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading! Please support me and this story, I would greatly appreciate it. Reviews are highly encouraged. Thanks for tuning in and have a nice day!
