Chapter 1: That Fateful Night

On Halloween 1981, voldemort, the dark lord was defeated after the killing curse was rebound back to him after what he thought to be an easy kill in the aftermath of his attack at the Potter residence in Godric's Hollow. Sirius black who was visiting his best friend James as he was about to propose to a witch he has been dating and wanted him to be the best man at his wedding and to memorize Lilly's face when she hears the news. He was chuckling to himself at the thought of that but the has no clue on what was to happen next. As he had a look at the house was enough for him to forget all the joy and a grim feeling was in his mind. Sirius transformed to his animagus form padfoot the grim to give him the advantage of enhanced speed and a sense of smell but what he smelled was enough for the inner animal to give a houl in pure agony he smelled death.

Somewhere in the Scottish highlands deep in a castle one of if not the most secure location in all of wizarding Brittan where the Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry in the grand office of Albus Percival Wolfric Briyan Dumbledore, the chief warlock of Wizengamoth and the Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, exists a device which monitored the wards of some of the locations.which are supposed to be of high importance gave a weird sound. Albus woke from his sleep like he was splashed with ice cold water. One look at the device and after knowing that the Potter residence's wards are down, he wasted no time. With a wave of his wand he transformed his night time robes to battle ready robes and he knows there is no time to waste. One look outside the office window and there he saw the half giant going to retire to his Hut after the last check of the grounds.

"Hagrid" called Albus

Before Hagrid could react, Albus was in front of him aperating with the help of Fawkes. He told him

"Wards are down at the Potter residence"

Hagrid was left with a blank expression at the words and feared the worst, he knew it was time to go and in few seconds, the both of them were engulfed in the phoenix fire and landed at the Potter residence in Godric's hallo.

When both of them had a look at the Potter residence it was like a muggle explosive device had gone up, the house was half destroyed. Albus was left in shock when he saw the secret keeper of the fideleus Sirius leaving the house with a child in his hands. Sirius came near Hagrid and said

"Harry needs to go to St Mongo's"

He took a small bike from the pocket and enlarged it and gave Hagrid the keys. Before Albus could say a word, Sirius apperated saying he has business to take care of with an expression on his face which might resemble the grim reaper himself. Albus knowing that Sirius is the secret keeper sent a patrons message to the order and the DMLE. When Albus entered the house he can see the life less bodies of James in the hallway and Lilly in the bedroom near the crib.

Albus told Hagrid to take Harry to Hogwarts and get him checked by the healer there and left on the aperration trail left by Sirius. After aperating five more times he came to a stop where he saw the dead bodies of twelve muggles and Sirius black standing with his wand in the hand. Before Sirius was able to react, Albus shot a spell at Sirius, the red beam hit him in the chest and left him stunned. Albus took Sirius's wand and bound him with ropes as the aurors from DMLE arrived. Once the news hit the daily prophet, people were celebrating once they read that the Albus Dumbledore has declared voldemort dead and Sirius black betrayed the Potters.

Amelia Bones was not happy with the news. She knew deep down that Sirius will die before he betrays James and Lilly. But the house is under fideleus and no one can enter the house without the secret keeper giving away the secret. She poured herself a large portion of fire whiskey while her niece Susan was sleeping in the next room. She was confident that Sirius will be proposing to her in the next week but the situations have gone for the worst.

The next day, the wizarding world was in chaos on the whereabouts of the last Potter, the vanquisher of the dark lord. Albus had a thought that it is best for Harry to be brought up by his aunt and uncle, the dursleys but he scratched that idea after having a chat with petunia dursley, Lily's sister. He is pretty sure that he avoided making the worst mistake of his life by handing over Harry to the dursleys. It seems like Petunia hated Lilly more than the hatred of Severus over James. Albus thought the best thing to do was to open the Will's of the late Potters and honour them.

The Potter's will is placed in Gringots in their vault but a copy is placed in the ministry of magic as Dumbledore is the chief warlock, he can request for a copy. The reading started with the least number of attendees as the matter is not the share of the vault but the guardianship of Harry. Not to everyone's surprise, Sirius is named as the oath sworn God father of Harry but the first choice lies with the Longbottoms. While Albus was sure Frank and Alice along with Agusta will be happy to raise Harry like their own son along with Neville but they were not able to contact them because the house is placed under the fideleus and they have kept owl redirection wards so they need to wait for them to contact them once they hear the news. The second choice of guardian is of course Sirius Orion Black but as he was locked up in the ministry's custody, he is not an option. The third choice was the Potter's former head of the house and the god mother to James Charles Potter, Minerva Mcgonagal and the fourth choice is Severus Snape. Minerva Mcgonagal was summoned to the ministry and she flooed directly from Hogwarts. She agreed to look after Harry till the drama is cleared because she was sure Sirius will not betray James, he would die happily before something like that happens.

A couple of days later, Harry was sound asleep in the care of the deputy headmistress of Hogwarts. Minerva kept some classes on hold as they were handled by the head boy and the head girl while she took care of Harry with the help of the house elfes in Hogwarts. Albus was more than busy as the chief warlock, he was working alongside Millicent Bagnold, the minister of magic and Bartemius Crouch the head of DMLE. They were trying their best to capture the remaining death eaters and people were thrown directly in Azkaban without a trail depending on the crimes and the evidence available. Later that evening, Minerva received a floo call from her old friend the matriarch of the house Longbottom, Agusta that Frank and Alice were now missing. They should be back an hour ago as they went to Gringots to get the mail. "What!" exclaimed Minerva."I tried to contact Albus and the DMLE" said Agusta. "Barty registered the case and the aurors are looking for them and Albus is not reachable.""Let's just hope they will be fine" said Minerva after getting confirmation that Neville is safe with her.

Minerva sent a patrons message to Albus saying the issue and gave a word to the order to look for Frank and Alice.

Albus was back as he received the news and went straight to Agusta to give an update on the things happening. The night and the next couple of days were like torture for everyone who was looking for the Longbottoms. On the third day after the kidnap of the Longbottoms, Amelia, a junior auror, was promoted to the position of senior auror. She wanted to look into the Sirius Black's case but the aurors were working their arses off was an understatement. She left her niece in the care of her house elf. She was practically making a living on the pepper up potions and when she was about to retire for the day. She flooed to the Bones Manor and she was greeted by her house elf Toby. Toby gave an update on Susan and said"We have a guest waiting for you Mistress""Who is it this time? Is it Rufus, that moron! Remind me to remove him from the guest list in the grimoire""No mistress, it is the furry friend of yours mistress""Remus is here? Where is he?""He came a few minutes ago and I asked him to wait in the sitting room after giving him tea and refreshments mistress bones. "Amelia walked into the sitting room and saw Remus. "Remus John Lupin, took you long time to see me" said Amelia. "Amelia, how is Susan?" Asked Remus. "She is good, Toby is taking good care of her. " Said Amelia. "And how are you?" " Are you seriously asking me this" said Amelia with anger in her voice. "The person I loved is in Azkaban and we are searching for Frank and Alice who have been missing for the last three days. You should have a good understanding on how I am doing right now""Sorry Amy, I was not in the right mind. One of my best friends gave up the location of the other to that sick bastard and obliterated the other and took a one way ticket to Azkaban. I was at Hogwarts checking on Harry and gathering some Intel for Albus. So, please forgive me because I can't get a break to mourn my friends who are like family to me." Said remus shrieking with anger and guilt. The inner wolf was asking to be free and for once he was waiting for the full moon to arrive just because he won't feel the guilt for one night. " Do you really think Sirius will betray James and Lilly of all people?" asked Amelia with utter surprise by the words of Remus. "I can't believe what had happened with Sirius but he is the secret keeper and he was there when peter got blasted along with the twelve unfortunate muggles. We were only able to find a finger and no body for burial." "Ok, fine! You can believe what the fuck you want but I can't. I can't until and unless he accepts that when he is endorsed with verita serum and if he does I don't give a fuck to the job I do, I will fucking kill him with my own hands without the use of this wand" said Amelia releasing her wand out of the invisible wand holster.

The both of them had some shots of fire whiskey in tost to the fallen comrades and had a light meal. When Remus was about to leave, Amelia told him to use his old room for the night. He agreed with some hesitation and walked to the room. He can remember the good time he spent in the bones manor along with Sirius and Amelia when both of them were dating. It was like a good place to be if Lilly is angry at you after you called Harry 'cub' and an angry Lilly behind you is dangerous. As Remus went to sleep he had no clue on what time it was when he was jerked out of sleep by Amelia. "All hands on the deck, we got the location of Frank and Alice" said Amelia Toby came in prepared with a pepper up potion for each and emergency portkeys which Amelia kept in her home for emergencies. Remus cast a tempus and the time is 3:15 in the morning but knows it is not the time to complain. He took the pepper up portion and flooed to the ministry and met with the other waiting for Amelia. "How long ago did we got the Intel" asked Amelia. "Twenty minutes ago" replied the junior auror who was in the night shift. "It was an anonymous tip, left by someone's house elf and we have no clue on who sent the elf. I have checked the letter and it has no curses, hexes or zinces." Replied Mad eye Moody. Moody's magical eye came to a halt at Remus and he knew from before that Remus can be trusted. The members who volunteered for the mission are Amelia, mad eye, Kingsley, and Remus. A backup team with others will leave after ten minutes to the location. When the party of four was about to leave Moody told everyone not to hold back. Duel to capture if possible or else go for the kill. You are more important than some low life death eaters who will be feasted on by some dementor any way. With the last words, and with a familiar tug in their naval, the portkey landed them at the destination. An old and beaten house in some location remote. When they made their way close, they saw someone who came out and apperated his identity was not revealed die to his mask.

Once they are next to the door they can hear the voices, the particular voice was known to all, it was Belateix Lestrange, the most evil witch in the entire Britain. She was yelling "where is the master", no response from the other side. "Crucio" Still no response from the others side and the gang feared the worst but they can't expect the outcome which is worst than death. Moody, cast a spell which reveals the locations of the people inside the house There are six people in the house based on the location of Bellatrix, there are two bound to chairs in front of her and there are three others seated. With no time to waste, Kingsley blasted the door open and the others pounced on the death eaters the death eaters who were seated did not got the chance to draw their wand as they are stunned by Remus, Amelia and Moody which left Bellatrix before she could do any thing she was stuck with three stunners and a body bind and an Incarcero just to be safe. Once the adrelenyn rush is stopped, the group had a look at the bodies of the Longbottoms, they are alive but there is no response from them. Amelia called for the healers and the rest of the DMEL arrived to aphrend the prisoners. After the next couple of days, Frank and Alice were treated in the spell damage wing of St Mongo's the healers gave the bitter truth that they were tortured to insanity. They didn't physically die, but they lost everything that made them who they were. Agusta Longbottom was heart broken by the news but she put all her hope on the last remaining one, Neville Samwise Longbottom. Barty crouch has called in for an emergency session of Wizengamoth to sentence the convicts and the ministry of magic Millicent Bagnold along with the Chief warlock Albus Dumbledore has accepted the session and the session was ordered to be held in two days. While in the hospital wing, Barty and Albus were having a private conversation about the upcomming trail and the convicts to be convicted.

"The only convicts for the trial will be the ones who tortured the Longbottoms" said Crouch in a way to assert dominance

"Over my dead body" replied Albus calmly.
