Author's Note: Hey everyone, I'm back with another story. I'm going to try for a semi-original idea for this one instead of adapting stories like I've previously done, so bear with me. I won't keep you all waiting any longer, so here's chapter 1 of PAW Patrol: Unbroken.

Chapter 1: A Perfect Day

If you asked the people of Adventure Bay what they thought was one of the coolest parts about their city, many would probably say their sunrises and sunsets, and they would be correct in saying that. Another gorgeous sunrise was beginning in Adventure Bay, and over at the Lookout, ten-year-old Ryder, alongside Chase, the German shepherd and police pup who was also Ryder's first pup, sat on the balcony of the upper floor of the tower they called home. The weather was also perfect for watching a sunrise, a low-60s temperature with a slight breeze from the northwest.

"I'm glad you had this idea to watch the sunrise today Chase," Ryder said. "It's too bad that none of the other pups are awake to watch it with us."

"Yeah, they all must want to sleep in today," said Chase. "But that's okay. There will probably be more sunrises like this one for us to watch together."

After they took in the sunrise, which was as advertised, Ryder stood up from his lawn chair and walked towards the automatic sliding doors. "I'm going to make breakfast, Feel free to wake the others."

"Yes sir, Ryder sir," Chase said. He, too, got up and walked in the double doors to retrieve his pup pack. Once dressed in his outfit, he took the elevator down to the ground floor and walked outside. He walked to the edge of the grass where it meets the driveway and examined the scene in front of him. All of the other pups were fast asleep, some of them turned onto their backs, tongue hanging out and snoring rather loudly.

Chase barked out his megaphone from his pup pack. Just as he was about to wake up the pups, something caught his eye. Next to his empty pup house which doubled as a police cruiser was the small silver and pink pup house that doubled as a helicopter and belonged to the team's aviation specialist, the cockapoo known as Skye. However, to Chase's confusion, that pup house was empty.

"Where did she go so early in the morning?" Chase said to himself. "She's almost never up as early as I am." Putting away his megaphone, Chase went into police dog mode. He walked up to Skye's pup house and lowered his nose to the ground in an attempt to sniff her out and track her down.

"Aha, gotcha!" Chase said once he picked up her scent. He began to follow the trail while continuing to sniff the ground. Before long her scent became stronger, to the point where Chase no longer needed his sniffer close to the ground. Skye's scent had led the police pup to the giant oak tree.

"Now what?" the German shepherd asked, looking to his left, then to his right. "I don't see her anywhere."

"Looking for someone?" a familiar voice said.

"Skye? Is that you?"

"Of course it's me, silly!"

"Where are you? I can hear you, but I can't see you."

"Look up!" Skye giggled at the fact that the team's best detective couldn't tell where her voice was coming from.

Chase looked up from where he was standing and saw Skye sitting up in the tree on one of the branches.

"Whoa, how did you get up there?" Chase asked. "I don't see your pup pack with you."

"I climbed up here!" the cockapoo giggled. "And you should too!"

"Okay," Chase said, completely forgetting the task Ryder gave him of waking the other pups.

It wasn't much of a secret to the rest of the team that Chase was often partial to the small cockapoo, but of course he would never reveal to anyone that he was secretly crushing on her. However, Chase wasn't the best at hiding his feelings all the time, and while the other pups were guys and still pretty young, they were by no means stupid and could tell that the poor pup had fallen head over paws for Skye.

Before long, Chase had climbed up to the branch Skye was sitting on. The cockapoo scooched over slightly to give the German shepherd room to sit down next to her.

"What were you doing up here?" said Chase, almost out of breath.

"I decided to come up here to watch the sunrise."

"Ryder and I were watching it from the balcony. Did you not see us? We would've let you join us."

"No, I saw you, but I figured I'd give you your one-on-one time with Ryder. Plus, I kinda wanted some alone time too."

"Oh, I see," Chase replied. "Is everything okay?"

Crap, thought Skye. The three words that she had hoped he wouldn't ask her. She was perhaps one of the smartest pups of the group, but not even she could outsmart Chase while he was in detective mode. So she came up with the best excuse she could find to avoid having to sit through an interrogation session.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just going through some girl stuff right now," she said, hoping Chase would at least know not to continue asking since she said "girl stuff." The last time she opened up to Chase was after she had gotten lost on her way to Jake's Mountain and needed him and Everest to rescue her. Nothing against Chase, but she just was never open to personal discussions unless they were with Everest or Katie.

Meanwhile, Ryder walked outside with six bowls filled with dog food. He was fully anticipating being swarmed by his pups, who normally crowd around him whenever he brings out food. But he was surprised to see that none of his pups were around him. He put the stack of bowls down and noticed that Marshall was still fast asleep in front of him in his pup house, which doubled as a fire truck or an ambulance depending on the circumstances.

"I thought I told Chase to wake them up," he said to himself. He looked around for his police pup, but he didn't have to look for long before the sound of two pups laughing in the distance made it to his ears. He looked over at the giant oak tree a few hundred feet away and saw in one of the branches the backs of his cockapoo and German shepherd.

Ryder chuckled to himself, as he, too, was aware that Chase had feelings for Skye. He had also suspected that maybe Skye had feelings for Chase, but he wasn't able to read her as well as Chase. Ryder decided to let Chase off the hook this time around and woke up the other pups himself. The four of them gathered around, eager to eat breakfast.

"Looks like we're two pups short," said Zuma, the chocolate lab that also served as the team's water rescue pup.

"Yeah, where are Chase and Skye?" asked Rocky, the gray mixed breed and recycle pup. He was by far the smartest of Ryder's pups. "Are they sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G?"

"We'll," said Ryder. "You're half right." He then turned towards the big oak tree. Chase and Skye were still there, enjoying each other's company.

"Is Chase ever gonna find the courage to tell her how he feels?" asked Marshall, the dalmatian and fire and EMT pup. "By now you would think even Skye can see that he's in love with her."

"Who knows? But I'm ready for breakfast!" said Rubble, the bulldog and construction pup who was also the youngest of the group. He turned his attention to his bowl and began to chow down.

"Rocky, could you go tell Chase and Skye that breakfast is ready?" asked Ryder.

"You got it Ryder!" the mixed breed said as he dashed over to the oak tree. As he neared them, he could hear them talking to each other. Of course, curious minds want to know what it was that they were talking about. But also, it wasn't really in Rocky's place to ask.

Once he was at the base of the tree, he called up to his friends. "Chase, Skye!"

The two pups looked down at the mixed breed seven feet below them.

"What's up Rocky?" Skye giggled.

"It's breakfast time. Come on!" With that, Rocky ran back to where his bowl of kibble was waiting for him.

"Oh shoot!" said Chase.

"What is it?" asked Skye.

"I was supposed to wake up the other pups, but I got distracted when I saw that your pup house was empty."

"I'm sure it's no big deal. Come on, let's go eat!"

Chase got up and slowly started making his way back to the trunk of the tree. It wasn't until now that he realized how thin the branch they were sitting on was and how unbalanced he was at that moment. Before long, the German shepherd started to lose his balance and began to slip.

"Oh no!" he said, trying to maintain his balance. Skye tried to grab onto the police pup to help him balance himself, but she too began to lose her balance. Before long, Chase fell from the branch onto the ground and he took Skye with him. The two groaned before shaking their heads.

"Are you okay?" Skye asked.

"Yeah, are you?"

"Uh-huh. I had a nice soft landing thanks to you!" It was then that Chase noticed that he did in fact break the cockapoo's fall. She was on top of him and giggled at the surprised expression he wore on his face when he noticed that. "Now let's go eat!"

Surprisingly enough, the PAW Patrol didn't receive any calls that day that would have dispatched them from the Lookout. Ryder gave them the day off and allowed them to do whatever they wanted. Rubble and Marshall went to Jake's Mountain to snowboard. Zuma and Skye went to the beach to surf. And Chase and Rocky stayed at the Lookout to perform vehicle inspections with Ryder.

"So Chase?" said the mixed breed as he began inspecting his own recycle truck.

"What's up Rocky?" the German shepherd asked.

"Did you enjoy your little moment this morning before breakfast?"

"What moment?"

"Oh you know…"

"No, I don't know?"

"Stop playing around Chase," Rocky started to get a little impatient. "I know you know what I mean. Your moment this morning with Skye, in the oak tree."

"We were just spending some time together," Chase tried to defend himself. "I also spent time with Ryder beforehand watching the sunrise, and right now, I'm spending time with you doing vehicle inspections. What are you getting at?"

"Oh nothing, but the way she fell on top of you when you fell was pretty cute," Rocky giggled. Chase just rolled his eyes, trying to ignore Rocky's now obvious attempt to get him to reveal his crush to the mixed breed.

Rocky soon gave up trying to get a confession out of Chase, given how stubborn the police pup was behaving. He just hoped that the water pup was having better luck over at the beach getting a confession out of Skye.

Said water pup was down at the beach with Skye. The waves on this particular day were a surfer's dream come true. Skye laid out on the sand to rest, read a book and get some sun. After what felt like hours, she glanced up from her nearly finished book to see that Zuma was still riding the waves.

How does he have that much energy? she asked herself. I guess if you love something enough, you could do it all day.

Once Skye finished her book, she continued to lie on the beach and looked out at the water. Her gaze wasn't fixed on anything in particular, but her mind did backtrack to what had happened this morning right before breakfast.

It had to have been only five minutes of uninterrupted one-on-one time with Chase, but to her it felt like hours. Nobody knew about her crush on the team's police pup, not even Everest or Katie, and she didn't intend for it to happen, but the way Chase cared for his teammates was enough for her to fall for him. Not once did she consider the possibility that he returned her feelings, but a pup could dream, right?

"You okay, dude?" a voice asked from right next to her. This startled her and she jumped. She turned to the source of the voice and saw that it was just Zuma.

"Zuma, you scared me," she said with a chuckle, putting her paw up to her now racing heart. "I didn't think you would ever be done surfing."

"Well I saw you finished your book and you were just kind of staring off into the distance so I came to see what was up."

"I appreciate it Zuma, but I'm okay, I was just kinda lost in my thoughts you know?"

"Totally understand dude. But none of these thoughts had to do with a specific thing that happened this morning did they?"

Skye gasped silently as it appeared that the team's aquatic pup was onto something. "What are you talking about?" she began to defend herself but Zuma cut her off.

"You know, the incident between you and Chase. You and him, a guy and a girl, sitting together in the tree this morning." He dared not try to finish the rhyme by saying "K-I-S-S-I-N-G" unless he wanted to face Skye's fury.

"We were just spending time together! What's it to you anyway?" Skye was starting to get a little irritated, but unbeknownst to Zuma, her cheeks started to turn ever so slightly red.

"Nothing, curious minds ask is all."

After a brief silence, a lightbulb went off in Skye's brain and she gasped excitedly.

"I have an idea!" she proclaimed to no one in particular.

"What is it?" asked Zuma.

"We should all watch the sunset here at the beach tonight!" Skye said, pointing her paw to the sun which was in fact beginning to set.

"That's a great idea!" Zuma barked in agreement. Probably because you want to watch it with Chase, he thought to himself.

Skye pressed her pup tag to call her owner. "Ryder?"

"What is it Skye?" Ryder asked.

"Can we all watch the sunset at the beach tonight?"

"Great idea Skye! I'll call the rest of the pups to the beach!"

"Yay!" Skye cheered with a backflip. Once she landed, both her pup tag and Zuma's pup tag lit up.

"PAW Patrol, to the beach!"

Rubble and Marshall just took another trip down the slopes on their snowboards. While he may be the clumsiest of the pups, Marshall did know how to hold his own in snowboarding against Rubble, arguably the best out of all the pups at winter sports.

The two of them reached the end of the slope and turned to watch as Jake leapt past them on his board. The two pups cheered at his impressive skills.

"That was totally awesome bros!" Jake said. "Today was an amazing day to snowboard, but I think I need to check out for the night."

"I agree," said Marshall. "I'm beat, but this was such an awesome day."

"Me too!" said Rubble. "I'm surprised that we weren't called for any-"

"PAW Patrol, to the beach!" their pup tags lit up and they could hear Ryder's voice over the radios in them.

"Spoke too soon?" said Marshall with a chuckle. "Let's get going!"

"Gotta go Jake! Thanks for boarding with us today!"

"Anytime pups! You're always welcome back!"

"I think that's everything!" said Rocky. He and Chase just finished the inspection on Zuma's hovercraft. "His new propellers are in so he should stop hearing that metallic noise whenever he uses it."

"Awesome!" said Chase. "Boy am I a bit worn out. That was a long day of inspections."

"But it's a good thing we got them taken care of on an off day," said Rocky.

"Sure is!" said Chase. He wasn't one to get excited about this kind of stuff like Rocky was, but the thought that doing this would keep his teammates safe was enough motivation for the police pup.

The two pups headed inside the Lookout to watch some TV when, suddenly, their tags lit up.

"PAW Patrol, to the beach!" Ryder said.

"Ryder needs us!" said Rocky.

"Wait, the beach?" said Chase. "Why the beach?"

"Who knows? But I'll race you there!" The mixed breed then took off out the Lookout doors with the German shepherd in hot pursuit.

Down at the beach, Skye and Zuma eagerly waited for the rest of their team to show up. It also appeared that they weren't the only ones that thought to watch the sunset down at the beach. Some of their closest friends outside the team also made their way over: Katie, Cali, Alex, Mr. Porter and Mayor Goodway soon were set up on the beach to watch the sunset. Mr. Porter even brought with him a portable ice cream cart.

Ryder was the first member of the PAW Patrol to the beach. He pulled up in his ATV and parked it nearby before making his way over to his pups.

"Look! There's Ryder," said Skye.

"Hey pups, great idea to watch the sunset tonight," said Ryder. "And it looks like other people had the same idea haha!"

"And Mr. Porter brought ice cream!" said Zuma before sprinting over to get some. Ryder and Skye watched the chocolate lab run over to the ice cream cart and couldn't help but laugh.

Next to show up was Chase. He approached Skye and Ryder and looked completely out of breath.

"Whoa there Chase," said Ryder. "Why are you so out of breath?"

"Rocky," the German shepherd in between breaths, "and I were racing, sir." Ryder soon gazed past Chase towards the Lookout where, sure enough, Rocky was running probably a football field's length away at this point.

"It didn't seem like that much of a race. You smoked him," Skye complimented the panting police pup. Chase turned around to see Rocky approaching the group. He, too, was out of breath.

"That was the most lopsided race I've ever experienced," said Rocky. "Imagine if someone like Rubble was racing us, how far back he would still be." Rocky was by no means a slow runner, but there was a significant margin in speed between him and Marshall and then between Marshall and Chase.

"Or if I was racing him," Skye said with a giggle. "I think he'd beat me here even if I had my wings."

Before long, Rubble and Marshall arrived at the beach. They hitched a ride back with one of the townspeople who also spent the day at Jake's Mountain.

"Great! Now with all of us here, we can go find our spot on the beach to watch the sunset!" said Ryder.

"Rubble, Zuma's over there getting ice cream if you're interested," said Skye. The bulldog immediately took off for Mr. Porter's ice cream cart, earning a laugh from the rest of the group.

The pups all lined up in the sand to watch the sunset. Skye managed to sneak her way next to Chase, though not without a little bit of flirting.

"Is this spot taken?" she asked quietly so that no one else would see them.

"Uh, erm, not at all," said Chase a bit nervously. Skye giggled and set down her beach towel so that she wouldn't get sand on her chest.

The sunset once again did not disappoint. The sky was a pretty orange and pink and it even earned some cheers from the people that were down at the beach. As far as the PAW Patrol was concerned, this was the best sunset yet, and maybe it was because they were down at the beach enjoying each other's company.

Once the sun had fully set, it was time for the pups to return to the Lookout for the night. Some were sad to leave the beach, others were glad that they could finally hit the hay after a long but fun-filled day.

Chase and Skye walked together, a little slower than the rest of the group. The guy pups obviously took notice of this, giggled amongst each other, and continued walking back to the Lookout with Ryder.

"So what did you do today?" asked Chase.

"I went to the beach with Zuma. You won't believe this, but that pup managed to be out there surfing for like seven straight hours."

"Oh I believe it all right," Chase said with a chuckle. "Zuma sure loves his surfing."

"But as far as what I did, I read a book and took in some sun," Skye said cheerfully. "What did you do today?"

"I did vehicle inspections with Ryder and Rocky," Chase answered. "Gotta make sure all of our equipment is in good condition. We certainly don't want anyone's equipment malfunctioning. Everyone's safety is top priority."

"Yeah, that would be bad if our equipment wasn't working properly," said Skye. It's so sweet that he cares for our safety, she thought to herself.

Before long, everyone was back at the Lookout and getting ready for bed. Ryder went to each pup house to say good night to each of his pups. He then went inside and up to his bed.

Chase then got up and did the same thing. It was a nightly routine for him to go around say individual good nights to his teammates. He felt that it was important to maintain individual relationships with each of them in whatever way he could.

"Good night, Marshall."

"Good night, Chase," the dalmatian said.

"Good night, Rubble."

"Good night, Chase," the bulldog said with his visor on.

"Good night, Rocky."

"Good night, Chase," the mixed breed said.

"Good night, Zuma."

"Good night, Chase," said the chocolate lab.

Chase finally reached Skye's pup house. The cockapoo was smiling at him. His personal good nights were another thing she admired about him.

"Good night, Skye," he said.

To his surprise, the cockapoo got up, walked over to him and gave him a hug. Shocked at first, he eventually returned the hug.

"Good night, Chase," she said. Thankfully for the both of them, the darkness of night was hiding the blushes on their faces from each other.

Skye and Chase then went back to their pup houses and dozed off for the night. Unbeknownst to them, Ryder was on the balcony of the Lookout watching them.

Maybe she does like him too, he thought. He stretched his arms, and with a yawn said, "What good pups." He then walked back inside and went to bed.
