Day 0:
Futaba was surfing the web one day, looking for suggestions for a show to watch. Nothing really caught her eye, but she did find an image of a robot-looking character that looked vaguely familiar on one site. The Phantom Thieves have disbanded at least for the time being after the events of Strikers, and during the past months since she was back to usual business. She was actually kind of bored because she didn't seem to find any new projects she could think of, so she was kind of just biding time until something came up. The 16 year old hacker found the name of the character and their show as well, Jenny Wakeman, from a show called My Life As A Teenage Robot. She actually remembered now, she saw a bit of that show when she was little, it being one of the few Nick shows to gain any traction over in Japan.
Futaba has actually gained an interest in robotics and their AI recently, thanks to Sophia and her Metaverse form's mysterious tech. She wishes she had the resources to build some kind of robot of her own, granted it almost certainly wouldn't be sentient like Sophie, no matter her programming skill. While playing a game, she actually had an idea. Out of curiosity a while back, she installed an app she found called "Fantasia", which could supposedly let the user travel to other dimensions. At first she thought this to be some kind of scam or cheap grab for attention, but when she decided to see what it was about, she indeed saw into another dimension with the preview, that clearly wasn't the Metaverse, in fact it looked just like a game she played, the illusion convincing enough to feel like she was actually there, though unable to touch anything.
She had uninstalled it, naturally freaked out by such a thing and concerned such a thing seemed to be publicly available considering it's claim of actual universe hopping outside the preview(she hadn't even told the other Phantoms about this, thinking even they might not believe it). At first, she thought that was too crazy to be real, even with the preview alone being as convincing as it was, but now she thought it was worth a shot. It said it could take one to worlds beleived by most to be fiction too. Wouldn't be the first time she entered a fictional story. She reinstalled the app on her phone and looked around its many features until she found it. "This might be my most interesting project yet. Mweheheheh!" According to the manual in the app, Dimensional Travel worked differently than the standard sci-fi trope. Because you aren't supposed to exist in that world, you need to find a way to tie yourself to it. The easiest way was rather crude, and it's the one Fantasia used. You needed to basically have a "Vessel", someone from that world to basically possess while you're there so you can be bound to your reality of choice. To return to your world and body, you simply need to go to sleep while wishing for it. Futaba realized this was kind of crazy to do, but if it worked she decided it was worth it for another shot at what she missed a few months ago.
Now, Futaba wanted to get some idea of how such an advanced AI like Sophia was made, how to give an AI actual consciousness, which she didn't fully get the chance to during her time with her, despite getting to scan her extensively and understand the kind of code she was made with well enough. So she decided to travel to another reality and hopefully study the code of another sentient robot for a better understanding. But who? There were certainly many to choose from. "Wait, that one from that show maybe!? Oh yes, this is perfect!" Jenny from MLAATR from what she knew was both a sentient machine that was especially intelligent, and had tech both in terms of weaponry and general tech that might make even Sophie jealous! She saw this as the perfect way to study robotic tech as advanced as a sentient AI as well. Ecstatic to get to this experiment, and with school out for the week as well as Sojiro gone for then, all that was needed was to put in the dimension and choose a Vessel...
That night, Futaba was setting up the dimensional transfer. She watched a few episodes of the show to get an idea of someone who might be a good Vessel for getting close enough to Jenny to get into her code. "Her creator? No, That would be too risky. That Misty girl? From what I know Jenny probably wouldn't trust me." Eventually, she decided there was only one feasible option, though still kind of a slim chance of working. She would need to use Jenny herself as her Vessel. Considering just how far she's actually going for this, she started doubting again. "Is this really a good idea though? I suppose it's for science..." She set the dimension to "World of MLAATR" and typed in "Jenny Wakeman" as the Vessel. She then ran the program, and in just a minute it was done. Now all that was left was to do as the manual says after this, go to sleep and the user will wake up in the body and reality they chose. Futaba got ready for bed and laid down, still kind of apprehensive as she was drifting off to sleep. After all, she'll basically be turning herself into a robot! She decided to worry about it when and if this thing really worked, and fell into sleep...
Day 1:
A kind of boot sequence appeared in Futaba's vision, as she regained consciousness. As she opened her eyes, she found herself in a completely different room. She looked around, her eyes widened as she soon saw she had arms and hands that looked like metal and machine parts. "Wha...d-did it actually work!?", she said in Jenny's voice. She knew how to move her new body, despite being used to an organic one, thanks to the app imparting key knowledge of the Vessel. She almost panicked for a second, realizing she couldn't breathe. She quickly calmed down and stopped trying to breathe, realizing since she's now a robot she doesn't need air. She clenched her robotic hands a few times, still shocked she was actually someone else. Futaba got out of bed, walking over to a mirror and examining her mechanical form. "It really put me in a robot's body...I know I expected it, but t-this is kinda freaky..."
This body felt bizarre, like she felt completely numb everywhere after all robots don't have touch receptors, yet she could still sense what she was touching and standing on somehow. Futaba felt like she knew somehow how to use some other functions of Jenny, and tried summoning a weapon, her hand turning into a blaster. "This is gonna be wild..."
She heard a woman's voice in English, "XJ-9! You must come down here now!" She figured the voice must be Nora, Jenny's creator. She suddenly felt she could understand and even speak the same language. "Coming No...mom!". Futaba unmorphed her hand and rushed downstairs...
(end of chapter)
This is my first fanfiction I've written, i hope the first chapter was interesting. Feedback on how i can improve the story will be greatly appreciated.
Edit:Some explanations for this journey our protagonist is going on were botched, so i went through a few times and added clarification\better reasoning.
