Prologue
Dear Diary,
Let me make something clear right away: It was not my choice to write entries in you. This was recommended to me by the school guidance counselor as a form of therapy, not that I need it. This is what I get for drawing even the tiniest amount of attention to myself. Way to go, me (Note my sarcasm)! Well, since we're going to be stuck together for a while, I might as well tell you who I am.
My name is Adelaide St. Peter. Most people just call me Addy for short. I'm fifteen and trying my best to survive the warzone that is high school. Most of the other kids around me act like complete idiots obsessed with partying, juice, grass, candy, petty drama and all that junk. I never did like getting involved in that stuff. I try my best to fly under the radar, but it's hard sometimes for two reasons: My intelligence and my strange appearance.
I'm a genius, on the same level as some of the greatest minds in human history. I hit most of my intellectual milestones earlier than most kids do - By age 3, not only was I speaking in complete sentences, but I also constructed the empire state building out of blocks. I could ace all of my classes if I wanted to, but... then my teachers and classmates would have high expectations for me. Better to just answer a few questions wrong on purpose then draw unwanted attention.
I like to think I look like any other white girl, but the truth is I don't. There is one glaring flaw in my appearance that always draws people's attention at first glance and that is my hair. Instead of having one hair color like most people, I have two. On my right side, I'm a ginger and on my left, I'm a brunette. No! This is not a dye job. It's naturally like this. I know because my eyebrows are the same way and hello - It's been this way ever since I was born. Whenever people ask me about it, I joke that I ate my twin in the womb and absorbed their DNA. They stop asking me about it after I tell them that.
I don't have any people I consider friends. I don't want any friends. If people get too close to me, they run the risk of finding out -
"Addy!" A woman's voice called from behind the door, startling said girl to attention. "You have school tomorrow! Finish whatever you're doing and go to bed!"
"Yes, Mom!" She responded, quickly finishing up her diary entry.
- You know what? I don't think I'm ready to talk about THAT yet. Well, I'll try to write tomorrow (even though I don't really want to).
Your Girl,
Addy
The diary was then placed by delicate hands on the dresser, the lights quickly turned off. As she rest her head on the pillow, Addy's teal eyes snapped open the second she heard a voice in her head that wasn't her own, but rather her mom's.
"What am I going to do with that girl. It worries me that she doesn't have any friends."
The teen girl sat up in bed, audibly groaning as she put a hand up to her temple. "Looks like there are some cracks in my mental shield," Addy thought. "Guess I'll have to try harder to maintain it, but just in case I can't-." She looked over to the night stand and a pair of noise canceling headphones appeared next to the diary her parents got for her. She let out a sigh as her head met the pillow again. It had been five years since she last needed those headphones... Hopefully, she wouldn't need them tomorrow.
Meanwhile, miles away in the town of Bayville, New York, one Professor Charles Xavier was about to retire from this particular session with Cerebro, when something suddenly caught his undivided attention. A new mutant's signal originating from Ohio had just appeared out of nowhere.
Discovery: Mutant Signature
The first detection in this vicinity.
Upon closer inspection, a 3D model of a fifteen year-old white girl showed up on the screen. A pair of ocean eyes gave the Professor the thousand yard stare, only partially obscured by the glare from her glasses and dual-toned bangs.
