Terran Frigate: Apollo

In orbit of the massive red planet, in the first major spaceship to be ever put into space, The Apollo floated alone, overseeing and protecting the first Terran colony on the planet. The two hundred- And fifty-meter-long vessel was the most advanced ship within the Terran space fleet.

This mighty vessel was Captain by one Christopher (or Chris by his friends) "Gambler" Gamble. He was a true Canadian, loved his "flapjack" (or otherwise known as pancakes), hockey and was mostly always polite. Graduated top of his class at the Space Naval academy in San Francisco and was quickly promoted to commander of the very first frigate of the orbit shipyards, which themselves were still under construction.

The young man was a tall, athletic young man with light brown hair and dark green eyes. Being part of the first generation born after the restoration of earth, after the Third world war, after the great famines that had gripped the human race for many years after the war.

One look at his eyes and you could see the gears of a mindful person, spinning around, taking in all available information and then in the next moment giving out commands to the rest of the crew to follow in a heartbeat. Though the crew was mostly older people in the ages of 30 to 40, he was only 24, making him the youngest captain in the fleet.

He loved the Apollo, the crew, his job and most importantly, he loved the captain's chair. The ship was the cream of the first crop of the new Martin class Frigates, armed with 4 forward six-inch magnetic accelerator turrets and with additional two more in the back. She had four auto-canon point defense turrets with two brand new x-ray laser batteries, both systems capable of shooting down smaller craft and guided munitions like missiles. This ship also Carried an impressive six cruise Missile launches with a standard stockpile of twenty-four "sinner" ballistic cruise missiles with interchangeable warheads, between standard or nuclear.

Every inch of the ship was decked out with the latest technologies from the lightning to the main nuclear reactor which was powering the ship they lived on. The Apollo was as state-of-the-art as a ship could get, and was made with her sister ships, which were still under construction, to represent the Terran people's power, which held the powers of earth together.

It was also the very first ship in the fleet to be equipped with one of the greatest Pieces of technology ever to be created. The Radiation Collector Mass Generator.

Created about twenty years after the Third world war, a Russian Inventor named Eva Kozlov, the device was able to do something thought impossible, remove and collect the Radiation from the many Nukes used during the war. It was later discovered that the radiation collected could be used as a power source more powerful than any nuclear reactor at the time could produce.

When the Terran people finally started to spread into space, it was found that while the new nuclear reactors were much more powerful, it was found that the RCMG's could help supplement the power needed for the many things, such as space stations, Colonies and spaceships. It truly became invaluable to the Terran government's Expansion into the vast dark void of space.

As the captain was going through the ship's daily systems report, the communication officer suddenly spoke up and reported, "Sir, I'm getting reports of some kind of disturbance near Sol 4 outpost Com satellite in orbit of Pluto."

"Has the outpost reported anything else?"

"Only that an unknown mass, just under size of the Apollo appeared out of nowhere." She initially reported, then stating "The outpost commander has gotten a visual, confirmed, it's an Unknown spacecraft."

The crew started to get worried. When the words "unknown spacecraft" were uttered, they knew what it meant.

First Contact.

Immediately afterwards, the captain replied to the communication officer Ensign Kelly, "Have the outpost send a recon drone out for more information so don't jump to any sort of wrong conclusion. Also send a message back to earth with everything we have right now." Then he turned to the rest of the crew on the bridge and said, "Ok people, we might get are self's a first contact situation. So, let's introduce ourselves, helm set intercept course, half speed." Then spoke again and said, "We don't want to spook them, do we?"

The crew gave off a light laugh to break the tension in the air.

The Apollo slowly started to turn to intercept the unknown ship. Ready to make new friends but prepared for a fight to the death if necessary.

He understood that if failed in any one way, Earth could be in serious trouble.

The Caption looked out the window into the vastness of space. He was worried. While meeting aliens would be incredible, he knew that they could be dangerous, but that might have been just from the many movies he's watched about aliens invading. But still he was careful. Maybe it was just instinct, but he had a feeling of dread in him. That something in the future, maybe not right away, but in the future something terrible would happen to the Terran people.

Unfortunately, that feeling would come true sooner than later.

Republic Corvette: The Next Star

POV (Starboard Sensors Officer, Republic Corvette: The Next Star)

Aboard the Republic ship, an officer stood over his console. He was in command of the ship's Starboard side sensors and life form scanners for the early part of the day. He was tired and wanted to go back to bed. They had just entered a solar system and the rest of the crew existed, to finally have something pay off their hard five months of searching in the unknown regions. Everyone was happy and was almost partying, except him. He was just tired.

He looked over to his console lazily and checked the scanner, before noticing a few blips on his scanner. Two of them were holding position over the planet they were orbiting. But the other two were closing in on them, one farther away than the other, but still closing fast.

"Sir," he tried to say over the noise of the crew, then he tried again and yelled, "SIR," quickly quitting everything down, "you need to see this, we're not alone here."

When he said that, the hold crew rushed back to their stations in an almost panic.

The hole of the bridge crew came to the same first thought almost instantly.

They might have just made first contact with an unknown race.

Time skips 40 minutes

POV (Captain Dean Cor, Republic Corvette: The Next Star)

The captain of the corvette, Dean Cor, was deep in thought.

Their mission was to find new Planets for the republic, and maybe new systems. In the mission parameters there was also a part if they could find a new species, but he never thought it would actually happen to him.

And because of that, he was in shock when the scanner operator told him he had not one or two, but FOUR contacts. The first one was a satellite, of course because of the general shape and build. Probably made for easier communications, because of all the intercepted radio transmissions it had been sending and receiving. The second contacted what appeared to be an out of some kind of outpost, but not armed, it could alert anyone of anything within its range.

The third contact was a little confusing at first, but later it turns out it was some kind of probe, sent out of the outpost to get a better look at them.

He understood this, because, if somebody just showed at your doorstep you would want to know who or what they were.

But the last contact is what had him both in deep thought and worry. It was twice as big as his Consular-class cruiser, and from what he could tell, it was far more heavily armed than his ship and it was also heavily armored, including what appeared to be six large Turbolaser batteries on the top and bottom of the ship. He almost thought it was like an old water base vessel he had seen in a museum once.

Though, he was relieved when he found out the ship had no shields. But still, his ship was no match with the other vessel, even with his ship being able to out maneuver his opponent's. Not like he wanted to fight, but if it came down to it, The Next Star would be space dust before they could ever do damage.

So, he was now looking out the bridge's viewport, to this unknown warship a few kilometers from then on, the port side, contemplating his next move. If he fired at the ship, he and his crew would be dead. He would also break his orders of only firing in self-defense and he probably wouldn't get a little something from the CEC. And if he ran, they might just shoot at him anyways.

Or there was option number three, Talk with them. Open communications with them, set up a dialogue and everything else. Plus, according to orders from the senate, he was to try to make first contact if he could.

So finally making up his mind, he went up and was about to speak when the communication officer beat him to the punch and announced, "Sir we're getting a signal from that ship and it's dreaded to us, should I Patch it throw?"

Dean prepared himself, then nodded without saying a word. The screen atop of the viewport activated, with a face of a young man sitting in some sort of command chair, surrounded by various other people. He guessed that they were deck officers and crewmen

Dean was taken by surprise. He was expecting some sort of bug creature or something with blue skin and deep red eyes. But instead, he had gotten a young man, probably no older than his mid-twenties. By the looks of things, the young man on the screen was surprised as well, then refocused himself and began to talk.

"I'm Captain Christopher Gamble, of the Terran Federation starship Apollo. You have entered Terran space, identify yourself and state your intentions immediately." He said in a strong commanding voice.

Not wanting to start a diplomatic incident, the Republic Captain quickly replied, "Hello, my name is Captain Dean Cor of the Republic Exploration ship The Next Star. We were exploring a part of space we call the unknown regions looking for planets for economic development and establishing settlements. We came across your system by chance." Then he quickly continued speaking again, "If it is possible, could we set up a meeting place so that proper diplomats can begin talks to allow you into the greater galactic community?"

The Terran Captain waited a few seconds before replying, "I will have to check with my superiors on that, but in the meantime, I think it safe to say that they will agree."

"Then I'll get in contact with them immediately, you can probably expect them to be here in about a week's time then. I'll also send you the Republic standard first contact information package, good day Captain." And after that, he ended the call and let out a sigh of relief.

Then he turned around and walked over to the commutation officer, thinking of what to put in his report to the senate, and his secret message to the CEC.

Unknown to him and most of the galaxy, something had just shifted. Not into darkness or light, but in twilight. And the future would change forever.
