Terran Frigate: The Apollo

The second conversation between the two captains had finally just ended. Christopher nevertheless was scared, even though his government had already agreed for the republic's diplomats to come to earth, he was scared. From the information from the first contact package, this so-called Republic was apparently a GALACTIC GOVERNMENT. That means they could simply overwhelm everything. Economy, Culture Beliefs, even their history could be at risk of being crushed if they were able to take complete control over their nation if they were to join the Republic.

This made things worse with the fact that in time, earth and her current and future colonies could be forced to rely on the republic for everything possible, from everyday living to protection of their worlds if they just allowed them to walk in.

Maybe just his paranoia, but himself didn't want to take chances. He remembers what he said and told to the joint chiefs and admiralty during his first report to them, and of the idea he had given in said meeting.

Flashback 4 hours prior

"YOU'RE TELLING ME, THEY CONTROL MOST OF THE FUCKING GALAXY!" Bellowed General Jackson, with pure fright and panic. Most of the admiralty and a few of the top generals had almost started running around like chickens with their heads cut off when Chris gave his report as well as the main parts of the first contact message. Only a few people including the President manage to stay calm.

"Jackson calms down, if you bothered to read this package, you see that they have no interest to actually invade us." Said Admiral Caroline Clément. She was One of the few younger generations of admirals in the current Federation space navy.

"That could all be a lie, and that they could have a fleet just outside are system, waiting for the order to attack when we let your guard down." Replied Jackson, paranoia clouding his thoughts.

Then Joe smiles, the Minister of finances jumps into the conversation, "While I agree with Admiral Caroline that the republic probably won't invade us, they still could force us to join them through political and economic means."

"What do you mean, Mr. Smite." Say's another Admiral in the room, many others join in with whispers to each other.

"He means that if the republic is allowed unrestricted access to the economy, they could destroy most of our major corporations' just with the more advanced tech, forcing us to be dependent on them. This would mean we would lose are independent to the republic without firing a shot." The Minister of defense said in response before his colleague could be replayed.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the question that I want answered now is this, do we or do we not allow these republic diplomats to come or not?" Asked the leader of the Terran Federation, in his deep Russian accent, President Alexander Petrov.

Then the one person who had been quiet for most of the meeting finally spoke up, "That's a simple decision Mr. President, we let them come, see what they truly want, see if we can get a better understanding of the larger galaxy and it's economy, its politics and other information that could be useful." He took a quick drink of water, and continued his speech, "And if we can, see if we can possibly get a hold of their technology, either by getting them or their computers, if we can bypass their security systems."

"Alright people, now let's figure out what our economic policy is with the republic, any suggestions people?" Asked the president to all that were in the meeting.

"Where clearly going to have to restrict are economy to them until we can boost our tech in our manufacturing industries, while not letting them get a hold of anything they might want." The Minister of finances replied. "Then the problem of currency, will have to figure out and exchange rate, this is going to be a lot of fun." He then ended sarcastically.

"We also make it clear that while we might just do trade at the moment, until there is a way to exchange each other's currency and hopefully companies can get a hold of some tech. But we will have to put on a tax from everyone else in the galaxy, just so we can even the odds." The Minister of defense then said after his colleague, The Minister of finances finished. "However, this leaves one last problem, defense." As if they timed it, the admiralty finally shot up to attention.

Then the Chef of Terran Naval Operations, Fleet Admiral Jonson Whitlock, started to chuckle, "For the last eight years we've been asking for an increase in our funding, so we can get more ships, better tech, and now ET saying hello we're finally going to get it. Ha." He stopped for a moment, and then became very serious, "Well, the new funding is nice gentleman, It's still going to take us a few months to get some more ships built, and the time required to build a proper fleet and any new colonies, is most likely going to take years to do, especially the bigger ships that are in the drawing boards, if we had the shipyards to build them."

"But still, even a proper fleet of smaller ships will still take a year or so to build, especially since we have only five orbital shipyards, and even after that it will still take a few more years to build the bare minimum of shipyards I would need to keep that fleet running." He finally ended his speech. By the end of it, the room was silent.

Another Admiral Spoke up, "It looks like we have two options, one we hope we don't get attacked or two, ask the republic for protection." Her voice seemed weak, as if she had been given her first devastating defeat.

The president was about to speak up to break the silence, when was interrupted by a voice coming out of the communication speaker, "Sir, I may have a suggestion." It was Captain Gamble.

The CTNO thought for a moment, "All right Gamble, what's your suggestion, since we're all out of ideas." He said in a light, but desperate voice.

"What about the ocean-based shipyards?" The captain asked from nowhere, making most of the room occupants raise an eyebrow.

"What are you saying son?" Asked a General with a southern accent, with interest in his voice.

"Sir's, mam's, my idea was if we could build our ships on the planet." The captain then explained his idea in a little better detail, "If we just retool the sea-based shipyards on the planet and show how they could build the ships we need, that fleet could be built faster than if we did it in space, right?"

Before anyone else could say anything, Fleet Admiral Jonson Whitlock said, "Lad, that was the most brilliant idea I heard of, since I took the job of CTNO. You might have just earned yourself a promotion."

Then ministry of Defense the spoke up right after words, pointing to Jonson "If we do that, we will be able to get those ships you need built-"

"-And provide a great many workers, high paying jobs, allowing us to boost our economy, so that we can better handle any Republic companies that try to set up shop in the Federation." The minister of finance concluded with.

With everyone in the room satisfied, President Alexander Petrov turned back to the young captain, who was standing at attention. "Well, then. Caption Christopher Gamble, you have your new orders. Send a message to the republic ship, let them know that their diplomats have a permission to come. And then when they arrive, have them escorted to earth, but only allow one of their ships to come to earth, the rest must stay around Pluto. And if they ask why, tell them the truth, and secure reasons."

The meeting ended shortly thereafter, with the captain making a second call to the republic ship in the system soon after.
