Star Wars: The United Terran Federation

Chapter 10: New Ideas and New Spy's

35 BBY / August 2056

Washington DC

Earth, Sol System

Joint Chiefs Meeting

"Dainn Purg, because of the sign testimony you have provided to this court, I sentence you to life imprisonment at a maximum-security prison unknown to the public."

The TV turns off and many of the Joint Chiefs and some of their subordinates start to grumble at the sentencing of the Nikto Pirate, mostly because of the light sentence that the man got in their opinion.

"Dame its Jack, why the hell did you let him that deal, he's responsible for the Deaths of hundreds at Duntose." Asked the minister of Defense to Jack Harper, the head of the OTI.

The head Spy turned his head to the Minister and calmly replied "The reason why minister, is because his help of accessing the encrypted data on his ship and his testimony, we know who funded his invasion."

The head of the Army, General Jackson raised an instant question "He was funded? Who?"

The Commander of the Office of Terran Intelligence, like the Pro he was turned around with his back to the General and replied, "Yes, he was. And for who, that would be a Company from Republic Space called the Trade Federation. And for this reason, they want to weaken the CEC by taking out a source of income, the Gas mines and trade of the Kontos System. "

The Terran Spy spoke up again before the General could say anything "And no General, we can't Nuke them."

This last remark everyone chuckled, as a quick reminder of a running gag that had been going on for years before the formation of the Federation. that if the military couldn't get something done, they would just Nuke the problem and be done with it.

General Jackson also chuckled before stating that "You'll never let me off that one remark that I made about the Republic when Clare Invited everyone to the barbecue last month, will you."

Everyone laughed for another moment before a cold chill of seriousness fell over the room.

The President asked the question everyone was wondering about, "Why can't we do anything Jack?"

"You see, the Trade Federation is surprising a member of the Galactic Republic, and by attacking them we would be just declaring war against the Republic."

"And we can't log any protest because of the fact that we don't have any Diplomatic standing with the Republic because they don't know we exist." Mentioned the Minister of Finance.

A feeling of annoyance filled the room, they couldn't do anything yet. Yet being the Key word.

The Head of the Navy spoke up "Changing the Topic, Let's talk about the reason attack on Grennia."

Grennia, the Fourth planet the Terrans had Colonized and was really starting to hit things off with a very profitable mining industry with no problems of the creation of the colony or its economy. Or at least until a week ago.

"Damn pirates, can't just leave us alone can they." Said the Minister of Finance, Mr. Smite.

"Fortunately, we had your squadron in system Admiral Caroline Clément, lucky us." Added the CTNO Fleet Admiral Jonson Whitlock.

"I really don't think I was lucky sir, I lost three Frigates." Replied the female Admiral.

"Just be glad they didn't get anywhere near the planet." Added Jack Harper.

The room looked to the man in wonder before he answered the questions they had in their heads, and his answer turned the room cold.

"According to the computer logs, they were planning to threaten an orbital bombardment on the colony if we didn't agree to their demands."

"Shit."

That was the one word that the entire room could come up with when thinking about what he just said.

Another General in the room decided to speak up "Even if we outnumbered them Ten to one, they could still hold our people hostage."

"And that's why I brought someone with me today." Continue the Chief Spy.

Within moments, Jack Harper went outside for a moment before returning with a short older gentleman before he greeted everyone in an old German Accent,

"Guten Tag, Ladies, Gentlemen. I'm Professor Wolfram Möller."

Coruscant

Base of the Senate Building

Agent Cliegg Lars

(Yes, I think you know what might happen.)

Coruscant, the center of the galaxy. Or at least for Trade, Politics and Corruption.

At first glance, the city world seemed to be a wonderful place full of commerce and trade with people from all across the Galaxy coming together in unity and peace. Ya, Good joke.

At the top level, you could turn almost any corner and find police taking bribes, drug deals going down, and every last crime happening you could think of. However, it got worse.

It seemed that for every level that you went down, you not just had more crimes being committed, but the crimes diversified even more.

Hell, go down far enough and you find the practice of slavery. Slavery, on the Capital planet of the nation that bans it. The Terran Agent could only come up with one word to truly describe the planet and the face of the society that lives here (Meaning Influential people and politicians).

'Hypocrites' Thought the Terran Agent, 'They think that their society is so perfect, yet just look under the tablecloth and see the difference. If that is not being on a high horse, then I don't know what is.'

As he walked towards the very large domed mushroom shaped building, he began to brief himself again on his mission.

His mission was to A) get a job in the Senate Building, preferably a job in ether the maintenance or electrical crews that worked in the building, B) climb up the ranks in whatever sector he gets a job in, and C) slowly set up recording devices and bug of any kind and when possible, send intelligence back to Terran Command of what each dirty secret that each politician and businessman had while talking in the building.

Knowledge is power, after all.

And for the Terran people, the power to blackmail enough right people to prevent even the thinking of invasion of Federation space, was worth more than anything else in the world, no, in the galaxy.

It was a risky plan, however, with great risk comes great reward.

Being a student of Harvard's electrical and mechanical engineering departments, he had later joined the OTI after First Contact, after being recruited by someone named 'Smith', and had been surprisingly very good at lying and passing the examination and later became a spy.

He soon later was sent out into the field.

That was why he was here, walking into the senate building, giving off a false look of nervousness to everyone who observed him. If anyone knew who he truly was, they would definitely say he was the best actor they had ever met.

He had been directed to a set of elevators down the hallway where he would go to a lower level of the building.

As he walked through the long red-carpet halls, he began to have the chills running down his back, like some darkness was here, but he ignore it and kept moving forward towards the senatorial maintenance department where he had an interview with building maintenance manager.

As he came upon the floor that he went to after he had finished his ride on the elevator, like the ones from back home, it came to a stop and when the doors opened, he was honestly surprised by what he saw.

He had expected to enter a clean and bright hallway like all the other hallways in the senate building.

However, when he walked into the hallway, he saw the gray metal walls, with no bright colorful anything anywhere he could see. In fact, the hallway was actually both dirty and cluttering. The complete opposite to the hallway above. You could say that it resembled a dungeon.

Every few feet, pieces of junk and droid parts could be found. The place looked like a junk yard instead of a hallway in a government building.

As he continued to walk down the cluttered hallway, he could hear the sound of metal footsteps approaching him.

"O good you're here now." Said an almost feminine robotic voice as the being he head walked in front of him.

"I'm FPD-723, Please come with me, Mr. Nate Kono is waiting for you in his office." Continued the Pink colored protocol droid.

As he made his way to this 'Mr. Nate Kono', He only had one thing on his mind.

'Who the hell would paint a protocol droid pink?'

Washington DC

Earth, Sol System

Joint Chiefs Meeting

"Professor Wolfram Möller, nice to see you again." Said the CTNO to the scientist, standing up and grasping his hand, shaking it with a strong, but light grip.

"I see your grip is just as strong as it used to be, Jonson." Replied the German.

A few quick coughs from the president made both old friends turn around. The Russian spoke up and asked, "Are you going to introduce us Admiral."

In a moment of embarrassment, the Head Admiral blushed in forgetting about everyone else in the room before properly introducing the German Professor.

"Lady's, Gentleman, this is Professor Wolfram Möller, Head of the Navel Research and Development department." Stated the Admiral, before continuing, "He was one of the main researchers responsible for reverse engineering of the republic Hyperdrive."

"This brings up one question, why are you here Professor?" President Alexander Petrov asked.

"Well, Mr. Harper invited me here after he heard about a few theories that me and my colleagues made after further examining the Republic weaponry we have gathered." Replied the scientist.

"You see, these turbolasers aren't even real lasers, they are just like our cannons but instead of firing projectiles, they fire high temperature plasma that's contained in an electromagnetic field."

Most of the people in the room were nodding, as if saying 'yes, we know that now, why is this important?'

"The reason why I am saying this is because while looking into these weapons we determine that as soon as they are fired, the plasma bolt (let's call it that), it's electromagnetic shell decays over time and distance, reducing its effect impact when it hits something."

"In short, given enough time and distance for the plasma bolt, it will dissipate and will just fade away. That's why we don't see these plasma bolts flying across the universe." Stated Professor Wolfram Möller.

Before he could continue, he was interrupted by Fleet Admiral Jonson Whitlock when the polity demanded where he was going with his speech.

"You see, after a few tests, we think were able to create a modified reverse polarity electromagnetic field that could, in theory, we could increase the rate of decay of the plasma bolt, possible reducing the effect range before it does nothing in terms of damage or just dissipate completely from anywhere between 5 to 50%." Finally stating the point, he was getting to in his speech.

It took a few moments for some, and a minute for the rest to realize what exactly he was saying.

Every last person was so God smacked that if a hole opened up beneath them, they would never know.

Even Jack Harper, who had a basic idea of the man's Research, almost jumped out of his seat and was pure surprise when he heard the last words of the German scientist.

The First person to regain his bearings and ask a question was actually the recently promoted, former Major, now Brigadier-General Oliver Churchill, the Commanding defender of the Duntose.

"Let me get this straight, you believe that you can create a machine that can cut the range on these plasma bolts from anywhere from 5 to 50%.?"

"Ja, in theory of course." (Ja means Yes in German)

"And this counter field will work on weapons from the big capital ship guns to the simple hand-based ones?"

"Yes, this is true."

Before the Brigadier-General could continue, he was cut off by his boss, the Minister of defense spoke up, "Professor Wolfram, are you saying that this field could prevent orbital bombardments?"

That was the true question that was on everyone's minds.

The answer, "As long as the ships are firing in high orbit, the field will dissipate the plasma bolts before they hit the ground."

"That's very good, if we keep the orbit by ground basic weapons, like ground based nuclear ballistic missiles, we could hold on to a planet without the risk of being killed from above." Commented Brigadier-General Oliver Churchill.

Then he added, "But we will have to make sure that we have plenty of AA emplacements to take care of Bombers that could attack, of course, but with that, we could prevent the Federation from losing any world's. Or at least, not without a major fight."

The CTNO join in by stating, "Even if they start throwing asteroids at the planets, we can still shoot them down before they hit with ground base Anti-ship weapons." Then Pausing for a drink of water. "But still, if we equip this new tech on our ships, we still have to deal with fighters. We can take care of them with upgraded point defense systems, but that's for another meeting."

"I'm just stating my own personal opinion, but I think Professor, you just received a blank check from the military for this research." Said the President.

The Meeting continued after the Professor left the room soon after with his future funding being secured.

With this money, possibly he could also continue his research into an AI created from the blueprints of the universe's most complex computer, known to man.

The Human Brain.

Coruscant

Basement of the Senate Building

Agent Cliegg Lars

Well, he found out that a senate maintenance worker of forty years was the one responsible for painting a protocol droid pink.

Rud Ciefa was that worker.

He is also the Department Head of the Senate Maintenance crew. A department with a complete full dedicated force of three people.

He found that out because he asked the Droid how many people he would be working with.

In any case, when he walked into the Director Rud Ciefa office, it almost surprised him. Almost being the key word.

As he walked through what was the Basement, there seemed to be one common thing he saw as he walked pass room after room before he arrived at the man's office.

Clutter and Junk everywhere.

That's why, when he entered the offices for the interview, while being much cleaner than other rooms, it was still full of Clutter and Junk along most of the walls with a desk in the middle of the room along with two chairs at either side of said desk.

In one of those chairs on the opposite side of the desk, sat a gray-haired human male, his uniform, dirty and seemed to have been not clean for a while at least a few weeks. His gray hair, a mess of a few gray strands on a mostly bald head that could truly show what the man had to go through.

As he entered farther into the room, the older man looked up from his data pad, staring right into his eyes, as if he was looking right into his soul. After a moment or two, the older man then gestured to the chair in front of him, as if saying to sit down, which he did.

After a minute of looking at his application that the OTI made up for him, his head turning from the data pad to the spy's face, he finally looked up and began to speak.

"Graduates of the University of Coruscant, had about average of grade 70, parents died four years ago, no siblings or spouses. No prior experience though."

The older gentleman then continued looking at the application, before asking a question that frighten him.

"Are you a spy Mr. Lars?"

In pure shock, the Terran spy stuttered in a response "W-What are you talking about?"

"Half decent application, no prior work experience and no family of any kind. That sounds like someone who wants to make a quick credit by selling information you get from bugging the senators. Right?"

"No, I just want a job."

"I can tell that you're lying."

"I-I'm not sir."

"Tell me the truth if I call Security."

Scared of being found out and failing his mission, he somewhat panicked and stated, "I never went to University of Coruscant."

The man lifted an eyebrow with noticeable confusion on his face.

"So, you lie about going to the University of Coruscant? Why."

Noticing a chance, he continues with his lie, stating that "Yes. You see, I thought that if I came with this great application, I would get the job quickly. You see, while it's true that I don't have any family, it was because of the fact that they had debts a few years ago and left me with some debt."

"I needed a good paying job to pay the bills that are now racking up now," He went down on his Knees before he began to speak again, "I beg you, I know how to do Maintenance work, my dad told me all that I need to know about it and showed me how everything comes together. So please, Give me a chance."

The older gentleman looked at him once again, this time with a look that you would see coming from an old grandpa. A calm gentle look, with no hatred or hostility.

Then he sat up and walked over to a Junk field corner, then began to dig through the large pile of junk, looking for something.

After a minute of digging through the pile, he slowly brought out what appeared to be an Astromech droid with a few different modifications which made it look like a mobile holo table.

Lars raised an eyebrow, "Sir what's this?" Gesturing to the old droid.

"This is your test, Mr. Lars. Fix this communication droid in less than two hours, and the job is yours." responded the Republic government worker.

The Terran in disguise took a look at the droid, grabbed a nearby tool kit and began to take it apart to see what's wrong with the thing.

After an hour and a half of taking apart Circuits and wires, replacing the corroded parts, the test was complete, and the droid was working.

Looking back at Rud Ciefa, he saw him giving the droid a visual inspection, then turned to him with a serious look on his face. "Are you sure you know what the job will be, it will be long hours and hard work?"

Lars smiled. "I'm still sure, boss."

Older man held out his hand, which he grabbed and shook, with a happy smile on his face.
