With the blessing and permission from the great writer Reyel on fanfiction, here are the characters of the story of Avengers of Steel, watching their future. For people who stumbled onto this fanfiction first and not Avengers of Steel, I highly recommend you read Reyel's story first. It is immersive, and even though it is forty chapters strong, they fly by fast by how deeply Reyel sucks you in on her take of the DC and Marvel characters.
That said, to understand this fanfiction, you'll have to side-read Avengers of Steel along with this one. Reyel has written a great story, and it wouldn't feel right to copy and paste her story onto mine.
All characters are owned by their rightful properties, of DC, Marvel, and of course, the original fanfiction itself must be credited to Reyel. Once again, I recommend you read Avengers of Steel first.
For people who already read Avengers of Steel, my story starts in the middle of Chapter Eighteen: "Decisions, Decisions . . ." in the middle of the two week time skip.
Watching Avengers of Steel
The Gathering
"There," the old man smiled. "Looking good."
Upon the room he had willed into existence, he double-checked everything. Comfortable chairs? Check. Soft carpet? Check. Buffet of Terran food on the side? Check. What else, what else?
"Ah," the old-timer snapped his fingers. "I forgot. Mortals need to relieve themselves a while after eating, don't they? Heh."
He pointed his fingers at the side of the room. Immediately, three separate doors appeared, MEN written on the left door, WOMEN written in the middle one, and OTHERS on the right too. (He was going to summon a tree and a raccoon.)
"Excelsior," the old man grinned, adjusting his sunglasses.
"Now," he snapped his fingers, "to get you all."
He spread his hands.
On the first flash of light, in the middle of the group, popped a tall, muscular man. His features were almost inhumanly handsome. On his neat hair, an unruly curl fell on his head, in the shape of an S. His bright cerulean eyes scanned quickly through the room.
"What just — how did I — what's happening?" Clark Kent asked.
But he quickly found himself not being the only one.
A second flash of light emerged, before fading out, revealing to show two women. One was a pretty tanned blonde, the other a pale brunette.
"Jessica? Trish?" Clark approached them.
"Clark?!" Jessica Jones asked, looking around. Trish started freaking out, jumping out and hugging her sister close.
"What's going on here?" Jessica looked around. "Are we — are we in a café?"
Another flash of light, a brunette middle-aged woman, wearing a kitchen apron showed up.
"MA?!" Clark super-sped his way toward her, placing her behind his back, his eyes glowing red.
"Oh — hey, sonnie. What's going on?"
Another flash came. Next, the light revealed a man and a woman, the man shorter than Clark, with a peculiar beard that seemed an oddly trademarked look of him. The woman, a pretty redhead, showed with him. Another dark-haired man, with glasses.
"What the hell?!" Tony Stark yelled, his head looking from side to side, before they found Clark. Pepper Potts, scared, clung to Tony. Bruce Banner, the Hulk, jumped, and immediately took his trained breathing exercising, to subside the greened-up veins in his neck.
"Clark?! Where are we?!" Tony asked.
A third flash, and a blond, tall, blue-eyed stock of a man just as tall as Clark showed up. Along with a beautiful redhead with a black espionage suit; a black, bald man wearing an eyepatch; a blonde woman with shoulder-length hair; a dark-haired one with a suit similar to the redhead's.
Steve Rogers, Captain America; Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow; Nick Fury, Head of S.H.I.E.L.D.; Sharon Carter, spy; and Maria Hill.
"Motherfu — what the hell just happened?!" Nick Fury drew his gun, as did the other spies.
"Steve?" Clark said.
"Clark?" Steve Rogers looked around. "Tony? What's going on?"
A flash of light. The other large blond Avenger, Thor, the god of thunder, showed up. Along with two long-haired brunettes, one wearing glasses. The fourth person was an elder man, near balding. Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis, and Erik Selvig.
"What sorcery is this?!" Thor boomed, clutching his hammer. His friends got behind him.
The flash of light right next to them, showed a smaller, lean, dark-haired man, with shoulder-length hair; Loki, god of mischief. Behind him, there was a man with long, gray hair, wearing an eyepatch: Odin, and a beautiful, seemingly middle-aged woman with long curly orange hair: Frigga.
The next flash of light revealed a family of four. With Clint Barton, Hawkeye, as the head. A woman, with a boy and a girl.
"Clint? Laura?" Natasha asked, going over to them.
"Honey?" Laura asked Clint, holding her children close.
"'Honey'?" Tony, Steve and Clark asked.
"Uh . . ." Clint looked at his fellow Avengers, then at his family and back again. "Surprise . . . ?"
The old man cleared his throat, and they all turned toward him.
"Hello, heroes," the old man grinned. "So nice to have you all here."
"Who are you? What do you want?" Clark asked, stepping forward.
Tony tilted his head, looking at the old man. "Hef? What are you doing here?" Tony frowned. "Oh wait, is it you, Larry?"
"No," Maria said. "He's that poor man who got gamma poisoning by drinking a soda with Banner's blood in it."
"That's funny," Clint said, staring at him. "Wasn't he one of those idiot truckers who tried to take Thor's hammer in New Mexico? Who had the whole back of his truck pulled down?"
"No," Steve said. "He was one of our generals. I saw a picture of him." Steve scratched the back of his neck. "I was supposed to get an award, put I stayed to fight."
"No, no," Fury said, looking around at them all perplexedly. "He's just an old man. I saw him in media coverage, they interviewed him along with hundreds of others about the Chitauri invasion. 'Aliens in New York? Give me a break.' I remember him."
They all looked around and stared at him.
The old man chuckled. "Apologies. Sometimes I inhabit the bodies of mortal men. When I do so, sometimes their faces adopt into my favorite face I like to have when I change into an old man."
"Mortal men?" Steve caught that phrase. "Who — or what — are you?"
The old man's form disintegrated. Looking at them all now, was a humanoid shape made out of pure light.
"Like I said, when I inhabit a man — I prefer old men, they're surprisingly invisible — for a while, their faces morph into my favorite old man face."
"And why do you disguise yourself as an old man on Earth?" Nick Fury asked. "Why are you here?"
"To observe. To guide. Whatever mood I'm in, depends on the beings I see." The light form answered. "With you? I just want you to — observe."
He waved his hand. Around them, the walls, floor, and ceiling which they were on became transparent. The only thing they knew for sure was still there was the floor, because they could feel it under their feet.
In front of them, was planet Earth, a little over the distance.
"Oh, Christ," Darcy felt her knees go weak, clutching Jane.
Clark, shaking off the shock of being outside Earth, looked at the man made of light again. "You didn't answer my question. Who are you?"
The light man shrugged. "I am the One-Above-All."
Jessica snorted. "The One-Above-All? What are you, God?"
"Yes. I am." The One-Above-All said.
Stunned silence spread throughout the room.
Odin stepped forward. "I am Odin, King of Asgard, God of War and Wisdom."
And to the shock of the Earthlings, the three Asgardians bowed to the One-Above-All.
"Wait, time out," Jane said, looking at Thor and his parents.. "I thought you guys were the gods!"
The One-Above-All stared at her. "They are the Asgardian gods. By no means are they the only gods. I am the God of gods. I am the Creator of all the Universes. Whereas you all exist in various places, times, and forms in one universe or another, I exist in this entire Multiverse as one."
Everyone in the room, shocked in levels beyond anything, could not think of what to say.
"I have brought you here," the One-Above-All said, "to watch your future. But first, the past must be watched first."
"Why?" Natasha asked. "Why us?"
God raised an eyebrow. "You are the Heroes in this new Age of Marvels. By no means, the only ones, but the first ones that I have summoned here."
Bruce Banner stepped forward. "D-did you say that you alone live in the entire Multiverse?"
The One-Above-All nodded. "This multiverse, yes."
"The Multiverse Theory . . ." Bruce, Tony, and Erik Selvig muttered.
"So you're saying . . . there are parallel universes out there? Other Earths?" Clark said.
The One-Above-All nodded. He continued to look at Superman. "One thing about this universe, unique to its counterparts, is your existence here, Kal-El, being among these heroes."
That confused the Avengers.
"What does that mean?" Steve asked. "Does Superman not exist in most other Earths?"
"He does not exist in any other Earth in this Multiverse." said the One-Above-All. "Your existence presides in the Presence's Multiverse. I wonder if He sent this version of you to me as a gift . . . but no matter. You are here. Whether it be the Justice League or the Avengers, you are a paragon of my child, Destiny."
Clark did not understand what most of that meant. There were other universes. Not only that, other universes of universes. And apparently, he mostly existed in another multiverse, not in any other of the ones here. Clark was grateful for his Kryptonian brain. If it were human, it might have just exploded.
"I need a glass of whisky. An entire bottle of whisky," Jessica said, sinking down onto the ground.
"Now is not the time for ebriety, my child," the One-Above-All said. ("Screw you, it's always time for ebriety!" shouted Jessica.) "It is time for you all to see what lies in your future. I may bring others with you as we go along. I will remain watchful, but not visibly present. May you watch and learn from this. I have never interfered in any other universe like this before. I pray its results be wonderful."
The One-Above-All glowed bright enough to hurt even Clark's eyes, and vanished.
For a moment, no one said anything.
"So . . . Justice League, huh?" Tony asked. "I bet their billionaire playboy isn't as good-looking as me."
Excelsior! The next chapter will cover chunks of the Man of Steel movie, then we'll kickstart with Reyel's Avengers of Steel.
