Disclaimer: I've finally done it. I've gotten a full rewrite of my own version of the Ginga storyline from Weed's story in the anime to Orion's story all written out. I had to go through a lot to get this done like remaking chapter one after the document for it got deleted and figuring out what I wanted to keep from the anime and what I wanted to take out, as well as how I incorporated my own story elements, but overall, I think I've got it down. So here's chapter one of the new version of the story!

And yes, the dogs age in human years in my story. It's best not to think too hard about it.

The Ginga Legend: Weed's Story

Futago Pass arc Episode one: His Name Is Weed

It was a bright and sunny day in a beautiful home somewhere in the land of Japan, known as Futago Pass. A small butterfly was flying towards a flower near a pond, which it landed on.

His Name Is Weed

As the water was shown, a white furred puppy jumped into it in an attempt to catch a fish. After he rose up and shook off the water, a grown Canine, a French Spaniel Mix, laughed a bit before giving him some advice. "You must be patient, young pup! If you're loud, they can escape easily!"

Three other puppies were standing beside the Mix, and the white one with black spots wanted to see him demonstrate it again. "Show us how, Uncle Smith!"

The other two puppies started begging alongside the other dog, only for another one to speak up nearby. "Hey!" A brown furred dog sternly reminded the puppies of who they were talking to. "Don't forget that you're talking to THE Smith of Ohu. If it weren't for him, we'd be living somewhere else by now."

"It's fine, Mason, no harm done." Smith assured Mason, and he then directed himself towards the water for another demonstration. "One demonstration couldn't hurt. Watch how I do it." Smith walked into the water as he began his demonstration with the puppies cheering for him as he did.

Inside the mountains of Ohu, there is a dog paradise known as Futago Pass. Long ago, there was a huge battle here that decided the fate of the land.

A flashback began with a giant bear standing before an army of dogs, with a young puppy standing on all fours as he started to power up. This happened as the bear let out a fear driving roar.

This battle was against a fierce and ferocious bear: Akakabuto. He's created a stronghold called Gajou, which he held down until he was defeated.

The Akita puppy, who had a scar on his forehead in the shape of a bear scratch, stared Akakabuto down as he continued to gather the power he needed to defeat him.

Believe it or not, out of the seven hundred and fifty dogs who stood in the battle, a ten year old Akita puppy was the one to take him down.

The Akita charged at Akakabuto at max speed before unleashing a spinning attack that went right towards him.

His name... is Gin.

Gin cut right through Akakabuto, and seconds later, he fell to the ground, dead. Gin stood valiantly over him, declaring himself the victor.

Using a special attack of his creation, he struck down Akakabuto, and declared peace for all dogs in Ohu.

Gin then started howling alongside the other Canines, declaring Futago Pass to now be their home.

It was a battle to be remembered for all time. And since that day, Gin stood as the leader... of Ohu. And he led the Canines in his army for fifteen years after that point. Until one fateful day...

Elsewhere, a now twenty five year old Gin and his mate, a pregnant fully grown Kishu, were walking together in the forest while cherishing their soon to be baby. During said walk, the Kishu felt a kick, and she was overjoyed to tell her husband about it. "Gin! I just felt a kick!"

"You did!?" Gin exclaimed as he looked at his wife, hoping to feel a kick himself. "Can I feel?"

"Of course." The Kishu answered, allowing Gin to lean in and put his ear up against her belly.

Gin listened for a kick, and he got another one, this time with both him and his mate hearing it. He couldn't help expressing his joy as he looked at his loving wife. "Sakura, we're giving birth to a lively one!" Just then, Gin and Sakura heard screaming from nearby, which scared them both. "What the hell is that?" Gin and Sakura kept going to find out where that screaming was coming from. To their horror, it was a giant mutant dog, causing absolute carnage in the area. Gin and Sakura were horrified as he killed their friends. "No."

Gin looked to Sakura, taking her paw and running off with her to get her to safety. "I'll help them in a bit. First, we need to find you an escort." Gin and Sakura quickly found Smith, who was rushing towards the action just as Gin spotted him. "Smith! Perfect timing!"

Smith questioned what was going on as Gin and Sakura shared one final kiss before departing. "Gin? What's going on?"

"There's a giant dog attacking Futago Pass. He's already killed some of our army it seems." Gin explained, and then he handed Sakura over to Smith for protection, much to his surprise. "Smith, I need you to take Sakura to safety."

Smith didn't want to disobey the leader, but he knew he would be needed for this fight. "With all do respect, Gin, I'm one of your best fighters! I think I should stay for this!"

"Sakura has my child!" Gin reminded Smith, who understood how much of a priority that is. "I couldn't bare the thought of both of them dying today!" Smith understood the leader's pain and nodded, showing that he agreed to fulfill the task now. Gin then took Sakura's paws while giving him one final goodbye. "Sakura. No matter how long I stay away for, no matter what I miss from you and our child... please know that I will always, always love you. And that I hope the best for our puppy."

Gin and Sakura shared one final kiss to show that the feelings were mutual. Sakura then shared one final confession before departing. "I hope it's a boy. One who grows up to be as brave as you."

Gin smiled, releasing his wife's paws before rushing into battle as Smith ran off with Sakura. Gin wiped the tears from his eyes as he started charging some kind of energy orb to take into battle. As he did, he called out to the monster who was killing his friends. "YOU BASTARD!" Gin was charging at the monster as he readied himself to launch the blast. "COME AND FIGHT ME!" The last frame was of Gin and the monster getting ready to fight.

The day Futago Pass fell... to a monster.

The sky was then shown on a much more peaceful day somewhere else in Japan.

Ten years later, in the Northern Alps.

A flock of birds were eating somewhere on the forest ground as a grown English Setter was observing them while hiding in a nearby bush. He waited patiently while making sure he knew exactly when to strike. 'Okay. I'm almost in range. Just a little closer.' The birds stayed right where they were as the Setter slowly stepped forward. 'That's it. That's it.' However, the Setter then sensed something nearby that made him stop. And from the bush right across from him jumped out a young Akita puppy who sported a similar style of fur to Gin.

The Setter was surprised by this, and the Akita kept recklessly biting at the birds in an attempt to grab one. 'That idiot! What's he doing!?' Just then, the Setter noticed a bird right above him and jumped up, barely catching it in time. "Damn!" The Akita looked at the Setter, setting his sights on the bird. "What are you looking at, kid? This is MY kill."

The Akita started running at the Setter in an attempt to get the bird from him. "Give it back! That's mine!"

The Akita jumped at the Setter, who moved the bird out of the way while calling out the puppy's flawed logic. "Don't say stupid things. I'm the one who caught it!"

"You only caught it because I scared it off!" The puppy stated, lunging at the Setter again in an attempt to get the bird.

The Setter continued to move the bird out of the way from the puppy, quickly getting impatient with his persistence. "Stop it. I won't allow you to act like this." The Setter tossed the bird to the ground and bit down on the Akita's neck gently. He then pinned him to the ground with his paw as he attempted to lecture him. "Listen, kid. You should only start fights when you're certain you can defeat your opponent." The Setter then tossed the puppy off with his teeth, only for the puppy to perfectly rebound and jump off of the tree like it was nothing.

The puppy went right for the bird and ran away from the surprised Setter, who ran after him in an attempt to get it back. "Hey! Get back here!" The Setter managed to catch up with the Akita, pinning him to the ground as soon as he did. Despite complimenting his tenacity, the Setter was clearly annoyed by the interference. Still, he tried to be patient with him, since he was still a kid. "You're a persistent one, aren't you. It's just too bad you don't know when to return what's not yours."

"It's not for me!" The puppy informed the Setter, showing his compassion as he said who the bird was for. "I'm bringing it to my mother!"

The Setter was surprised by the mention of a mother. He calmed down a little when asking the puppy about her. "You're out here with your mother? What's wrong with her?"

"She's sick. She's been sick for months." The puppy explained, revealing that he and his mother were really struggling. The fact that there were no nearby hospitals they knew about further emphasized this. "That's why I took it upon myself to find her some food."

The Setter sympathized with the young puppy, but still thought it was important to explain what he did wrong. "That's still no reason to try and steal my kill. What you did is thievery." The Akita showed sadness when looking at the bird. Luckily, the Setter's tender side kicked in, and he took his paw off of the puppy. "Take it." The puppy was surprised when looking up at the Setter, who confirmed that he was serious about this. "Before I change my mind."

The puppy sensed kindness in the Setter, smiling as he accepted what was now an offering. "Thank you, mister!"

The puppy picked up the bird and attempted to run off, but not before the Setter gave him a warning. "One more thing!" The puppy looked at the Setter to hear what he had to say. "Hurry and leave this mountain. This is Nero's territory. He'll kill you if he finds you."

"Alright." The puppy responded with a nod before requesting the Setter's name. "Oh, what's your name, mister?"

The Setter decided to share his name, despite not knowing if he'd see the puppy again. "It's GB. GB the English Setter."

The puppy memorized that name just in case they did. "GB." He then ran off when thanking GB. "Thank you, GB!"

"Yeah." GB then realized he didn't get the puppy's name. "Kid, wait! What's YOUR name!?" But the puppy was already gone. He couldn't help smiling at how he was. "What a nature he has. I wonder if he even has a name."

Another spot in the forest showed a small wooden hut, with a now weak and ill Sakura sleeping underneath it. She heard her son calling to her from nearby. "Mother, mother!" As the puppy walked over to her mother, she managed to get up slightly and look at him directly. He was pleased to announce that he got food for her. "I got you some food." However, Sakura was distracted by a spot on Weed's back that was bleeding slightly. She couldn't help but worry about him, although, he was more concerned about whether or not she ate. "Go on, eat."

"What happened!?" Sakura exclaimed, expressing immense worry for her son's well being. "You're bleeding."

The puppy looked at his mother and hid what really happened, due to not wanting to get GB in trouble. "I fell down after I got the bird. It's no big deal. Hurry up and eat!" Sakura saw just how sweet and loving her son was. He really did have a lot of his father in him. "If you eat lots, you'll get your strength back!"

Sakura smiled when thinking about how much the puppy and his father had in common. "You're right."

Sakura started eating, and the puppy hoped that it was to her liking. "Is it good?" Sakura's smile told the puppy that it was. He excitedly ran off to fetch some more for her. "Great! I'll get you more! Wait for me!"

Sakura smiled when watching her son run off with a healthy spirit, only to cough harshly due to her illness. She sounded apologetic when thinking about her puppy. "Son..." She knew she didn't have a lot of time left. At most, she only had about a day until she finally passed on. She had one final wish to give to her son. She hoped she could bring herself to ask him before it was finally her time.

Elsewhere in the forest, a husky was acting incredibly violent, lashing out at GB for his lack of any food. "You idiot!" GB was kicked back into a tree with the husky getting down to his level as he reminded them of their predicament. "It's 5:00 in the evening and you haven't brought back shit! Do you know what will happen if the leader's elite forces don't get enough energy for their roles!?"

"I'm sorry, Nero, I am!" GB begged, getting up as he tried to tell Nero that he tried his best. "I looked as hard as I could, but I couldn't find any birds!"

"Then find me a snake! I don't care!" Nero ordered, feeling he could get energy from just about anything at this rate. "And if you're gonna come back empty handed, then at least come up with a more convincing lie! I know this forest is always packed with-" Just then, Nero caught whiff of someone nearby, and it wasn't from anyone in his pack. His pack were all around him, and GB was sitting right in front of him in fear of what might happen to him. As soon as Nero spoke up again, GB knew who it was. "Where is that unfamiliar smell coming from?"

Gb instantly thought to himself about the fact that the puppy lived in this forest. His encounter with him must have led to Nero being able to pick up his scent if he was nearby. 'Oh no, the kid! Nero'll kill him if they meet up!' As he tried to think of a cover up for the puppy, the side of GB's backside was shown as a squirrel climbed down the tree. Once it was directly behind him, GB lifted his butt and cracked...

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

...a loud and bassy ten second fart that, while it did get the others off the puppy's back, GB's vibrating butt also killed the squirrel with a yellow cloud that reeked of rotten eggs. The fart cloud surrounded GB and the other canines as well, proving itself to be a very powerful fart. GB's plan worked however, and he pretended that he let it out by accident when Nero called him out on it, putting on a bashful look and nervous smile. Nero was furious with GB's outburst, and it seemed to be a reuccurring theme. "Ugh, that was YOU again, GB!? You could have at least gone downwind!"

GB chuckled nervously as he then used his cover up story to avoid being caught for his fart being intentional, as to avoid having Nero's teeth crushing his windpipe. "My butt controls itself when nature calls."

Nero then got aggressive and pushed GB against the tree, giving him direct orders on how to redeem himself. "Look. Just get me one of those ducks by the farm. (GB flinches) I don't care how you do it, just do it!"

"Y-yes sir!" GB ran off once Nero let him go, and he went in two leg mode to make sure he got there faster. He only hoped he would be able to help the kid avoid Nero from this point onward, just as he did now.

Early in the night, the puppy was walking along a trail, looking quite sad with no birds for his mother. He was disappointed that he couldn't get her any more food. "After all that, nothing. Mom's probably starving by now." Just then, Weed saw GB sitting by himself and looking lost in thought near the bridge.

GB was contemplating what he was going to do about this incredibly difficult task Nero gave him. "What should I do? If I go back empty handed, Nero will kill me. I'll... I'll never be anything more than a slave."

"GB!" GB looked up to the bridge to find the puppy looking down at him with a smile. "We meet again, huh?"

"You fool!" GB exclaimed, confusing the puppy before reminding him of his advice. "Why are you still wandering around here? I told you to leave!"

"My mom still can't walk very well, and I-" The puppy started to explain, only for another Canine nearby to come along.

"Hey! GB!"

The puppy and GB looked to find a red furred Shiba Inu running towards the latter. "Sasuke?"

Sasuke spoke with concern for GB regarding his current predicament. "I was starting to get worried about you. Nero sent me to get the ducks in your place because you were taking so long."

The puppy was stunned to learn of GB's mission with the Setter apologizing for his lack of proactive thinking. "Sorry about that. I've had a lot on my mind lately. Let's go get those ducks."

"Wait, GB!" The puppy called down, not wanting GB to do something he'd regret. He got his and Sasuke's attention as he warned him of his mother's advice. "My mother told me never to steal from humans!"

Sasuke found himself curious as to how the puppy knew GB. "Who's the brat?"

"Just a stray kid I met while hunting." GB explained, looking back at the puppy and warning him to go home. "Go home, kid! This is dangerous!"

But the puppy wasn't convinced. He saw that GB was really better than this. He couldn't believe he'd want to do this. "GB."

Sasuke started a conversation with GB about the ducks, wondering what the place was all about. "Geez, I almost can't believe Nero has us doing this so late. What an asshole."

"I know, right?" GB agreed, having grown tired of working for Nero. "He's strong enough to hunt for his own food."

Sasuke then said something that caught GB's attention. "So anyway, where is this place? Nero didn't say anything about it."

GB started thinking about how he could use Sasuke's limited information to his advantage. 'That means he doesn't know about the guard dog.' He gained a devious grin as he devised his plan. 'Perfect.'

GB and Sasuke then found themselves right in front of the farm Nero wanted them to steal the ducks from. Sasuke seemed confident that they could pull it off. "This is gonna be a piece of cake."

GB started filling Sasuke in with a cover up plan to hide his true intentions. "Let's plan this out, Sasuke. The two of us can cover one end each, giving us more room to catch them off guard if things go wrong." Sasuke liked the sound of that with GB directing him on where to go. "You can go around behind the shed. I'll cover you from the opposite side."

"I see. Sounds like a plan to me." Sasuke responded, liking the sound of what GB had in mind.

GB and Sasuke then spread out on the sides of the farm they agreed to cover with Sasuke sneaking through the grass to make it easier on himself. Oblivious to GB's actual plan, Sasuke became quite confident in this one working when he saw that all the ducks were sleeping. "Perfect. Fast asleep." Sasuke licked his lips as he thought about how tasty they were. "Nero's one lucky bastard." Little did Sasuke know that the guard dog GB thought of earlier was watching him from the side of the house. And he was not happy to see an intruder at his owner's house.

Sasuke crept up on the ducks some more, making sure to get close enough to guarantee a strike. As soon as one of the ducks looked in his direction, he jumped right in. GB grinned in response, as his plan was working perfectly. Sasuke tried to grab one of the ducks three times, but he was unsuccessful. He was caught off guard by how fast they were. "They're faster than I thought." Sasuke then made the mistake of calling to GB. "Hurry up and get them, GB! You're faster than I-!"

Sasuke felt the presence of the guard dog and timidly looked to find him at the corner of the house. He chuckled nervously as he made a bad pun to ease the dog's mood. "I guess it's time for me to flock off."

The guard dog was unamused and pinned Sasuke to the ground with his teeth in an attempt to choke him. "What the hell were you doing!?"

"Wait! I'm sorry! I'll leave, please let me up!" Sasuke begged, not wanting to die now. Now was GB's chance. As Sasuke cried out, he rushed in to get the duck for Nero. GB, please help me! Help me, please!" However, the guard dog looked in GB's direction and saw the now dead duck in his mouth. Sasuke cried out to him again before he started backing up. "GB!"

GB made a run for it, horrifying Sasuke for a variety of reasons. "GB." The guard dog smirked as he continued to lead Sasuke closer to his fate. GB felt horrible for leaving him behind, but he couldn't bring himself to face the guard dog. He was no hero.

Just then, the puppy from before confronted him, having found their location. He didn't hesitate to question GB's actions. "GB, why aren't you helping him? He's gonna die at this rate!"

"I've got no choice, kid." GB answered, firmly believing that this was the best way he could've done things. The look in his eyes told the puppy that he wanted there to be a better outcome. "No matter what I do."

"But he's your friend." The puppy reminded GB. "You can't be okay with just leaving him here."

GB still wasn't convinced, believing he and Sasuke would both die pointless deaths to the guard dog. "Nobody could take on someone that big!" Sasuke cried out again, and GB hid his remorse when walking past the puppy. "I wouldn't be any help."

The puppy was disappointed in this decision, deciding to take matters into his own paws. "Fine then. If you won't help him, then I will." GB was shocked to find the puppy rush in without hesitation. "Let him go!" The guard dog looked at the puppy, who charged at him and bit his side as hard as he could.

Elsewhere, another Canine was awoken to the sound of the puppy's valiant cry.

The puppy was now tugging at the guard dog's ear in an attempt to make him let go of Sasuke. "Let him go and fight me instead!" GB had already made his leave, unable to bare the thought of seeing a puppy die. The puppy continued tugging on the guard dog's ear, refusing to let go. "Let go of him, damn it!"

"Be quiet, brat! Wait your turn like a good boy!" The guard dog smacked the puppy to the side, but he simply got back up and lunged at him again.

GB was still running, and he heard the puppy's cry, which for some reason, made him stop. He didn't know why, but as soon as he did, he started flashing back to a memory of him watching something in horror. He was being forced down as someone was killing three puppies right in front of him. He cried out in horror and sorrow as the last of them had their head smashed with a full force paw stomp. The puppy's cry snapped him out of it, and he looked off in that direction. The puppy was now tugging at the guard dog's ear again. "Hold on, mister!"

GB thought about just how much the puppy amazed him. "What sympathy he has. He doesn't even know Sasuke... and he's helping him more than I would. That kid is risking his life for him..." With this realization, GB set the duck down, having enough of being a slave for someone who didn't care about him. "and I just kept running?!" Weed was hit to the ground again, which made GB flashback again to that horrible day. This time, it was only a brief glimpse of a dark figure standing before him.

GB started to realize just how much of his life he'd been wasting since that fateful day had occurred. However long ago it was, it had a big affect on GB's confidence. "I'm tired of being a slave. I'm tired of feeling weak." It was then that GB heard the cry of the puppy. He couldn't entirely tell why, but this was the strongest he'd ever had when it came to desiring to protect someone. It was a desire he'd always kept hidden due to lack of self worth. But now... this puppy seemed to conquer every fear he ever had, making him turn back. "LEAVE MY FRIENDS ALONE!"

The guard dog was now holding the puppy by his neck, pinning him to the ground violently. GB was furious when he saw this and rushed in with all of his might. "YOU FUCKING BASTARD!" With all of his might, GB bit the guard dog right on the side of his face, making him let go of the puppy. Weed was caught off guard by the timing, looking back to get a good look at the action. "You coward! A fighting dog like you is picking on a pup!? Take ME on instead! I'm done being a coward like you!"

"Some nerve you have, a wild dog challenging me." The guard dog claimed, but GB wasn't having it.

"Shut up! Today, I'm something else!" GB shouted, and he bit at the guard dog's ear. The guard dog threw him over his shoulder, but GB held on, even after his body slammed onto the ground. That did make GB let go however, giving the guard dog the opening he needed to grab his neck with his teeth.

The guard dog taunted GB as he held him on the ground. "You can't change yourself just from talking big."

The puppy wasn't about to let this happen, tackling the guard dog as hard as he could. He tackled him again before demanding he unhand GB. "Let him go!"

The puppy tackled the guard dog again, leaving GB to beg him to leave. "Kid, you have to run! Why are you trying to save a dog like me?!"

"You helped my mother, didn't you!?" The puppy asked as he readied his next tackle. "That's enough to show me you can be a good Canine!" GB felt something he hadn't felt in such a long time. He felt like someone truly believed in him. That the puppy believed he could be... strong. During this struggle, a shadow started to loom over the deceased duck. It was Smith, who made his way towards the action.

With two more tackles, the guard dog had enough of the puppy and grabbed him by his neck to throw him towards the house. "You little brat!" The puppy crashed into the house, terrifying GB and Sasuke when fearing for his fate. "Stupid fool, trying to play hero." The puppy stood up with a ferocious look in his eyes. The guard dog wasn't scared however, and decided to test this. "You still wanna fight?"

The puppy breathed slowly before his eyes started glowing a bright color. Once they did, he charged at the guard dog at max speed, giving GB enough time to grab his ear and stall him when the guard dog moved. Suddenly, the puppy formed some kind of spinning attack... the Battouga, right at the guard dog! Everyone noticed this, and the guard dog tried to get free again. However, he was unsuccessful, and the puppy cut his left ear clean off. The puppy rolled on the ground a bit as the guard dog cried out in pain. Smith was more than amazed by this.

GB and Sasuke went to check on the puppy, only for the guard dog to speak up again. "You bastard! How dare you do that to my ear! I won't let any of you out of here alive!" However, after the guard dog growled, he saw Smith standing before all of them up above. He glared directly at the guard dog, who was scared by his very presence alone. He ran back into his dog house out of fear of what else would happen to him. Some guard dog, am I right?

GB and Sasuke looked up at Smith, and GB instantly recognized him. He was very happy to see him again. "Uncle Smith!"

Smith walked down to the three Canines as the puppy got up, and Sasuke questioned him knowing the dog. "You know him?"

"He saved my life from an oncoming truck before. That's how he lost his leg." GB explained while pointing towards the stub where his front right leg used to be.

The puppy rubbed his head as he contemplated what he just did there. "What... was that?"

"That attack." Smith said, catching the puppy's attention as Smith asked where he learned it from. "Where did you learn that attack from?"

Weed laughed a bit as he answered as honestly as he could. "I'm not really sure. I just kind of did it."

Smith had another question in mind for the puppy, hoping his suspicion was true. "Kid, would your mother happen to be Sakura?" The puppy nodded his head yes in response, amazing Smith by the discovery he made. Remembering the promise he made to Gin, he quickly asked where Sakura was. "Where is Sakura now? Can you take me to her?"

"Of course! I can take all three of you!" The puppy assured Smith, and as they ran off, GB looked to Sasuke.

GB expressed remorse for leaving Sasuke behind like that. "I'm sorry, Sasuke. I shouldn't have used you."

Sasuke didn't hold any ill will towards GB however, and that showed in his next words. "You still came back, right?" GB looked at Sasuke, who saw his forgiving smile. "That's enough to help me keep considering you a friend." GB smiled back at Sasuke, glad that he was so forgiving towards him. After that, the two ran off to catch up with the puppy and Smith.

Back at the hut where Sakura was, the titular Kishu was barely hanging on, breathing quickly in her usual spot. She instantly noticed the shadow of her son entering her view. "Son."

She also saw GB, Sasuke, and Smith with him. The last one was stunned to see her current condition. "Sakura."

Sakura was happy to see Smith one final time before she passed on. "Smith."

The puppy instantly recognized that name and walked over to his mother to see if it were true. "Smith? Mother, is this the same Smith you told me about?"

"Yes." Sakura answered happily, making the puppy happy to have met him that day. "The same Smith who led me out of Futago Pass when that monster attacked."

GB couldn't believe he was once saved by a high ranked dog in Ohu. And if he hadn't met him again that day, he might have never known. "Hold on a second. You're THE Smith? One of the highest ranking soldiers in Gin's army!?"

Smith nodded his head yes as he then addressed the puppy's status. "And this puppy right here, is the son of Gin. The same child Sakura carried in her all the way out here." GB and Sasuke couldn't believe it, and Weed smiled as Smith explained more. "That attack you just saw was the same one he used long ago to defeat Akakabuto."

The puppy laughed a bit when admitting to how sudden that was. "So that's what the attack was. I didn't use it intentionally, but at least I know what it's like in person." Just then, Sakura collapsed, much to the puppy's horror. "Mother!?" Smith was also horrified, as he knew what was coming. The puppy wasn't ready to say goodbye just yet. "Mother! Please, hang on!"

Sakura felt horrible for leaving her son the way she was. "I'm sorry, son. I don't have much time left." The puppy tried his best to hold back his tears as Sakura then addressed Smith. "Smith. No matter what. Please. Take my son to his father." Smith made that task his one goal as Sakura made it her dying wish. "My last wish... is for him to go to Ohu and meet his father."

Smith nodded in response, being more than ready to fulfill Sakura's dying wish. "Okay."

The puppy still didn't want his mother to leave him. It was all happening so fast in his eyes. "Mother."

"Son. Without a doubt, your father will defeat that monster." Sakura assured her son, leaving him with a task of his own. "You must get to Ohu." Sakura smiled while crying softly, leaving the puppy in distress over what was coming. "You're so much like him. I just know you'll get along." The puppy found it even harder to hold back his tears as Sakura took his paw gently. "Please, son. I want you to meet your father. He may not have come to see you before... but he's still a good Canine."

The puppy was well aware of how good Gin really was. He nodded in response, even though the tears started bursting out of him. He made his vow to fulfill his mother's last request. "Okay. Mother... I... I love you."

"I love you too, son." Sakura replied, bidding him farewell with the last of her breath. "Sayonara."

And in the next moment... Sakura was dead. And the puppy was distraught. "Mother!" He kept calling to his mother, praying that what he believed wasn't really the case. "Mother! Mother!" Smith started to tear up as well, and GB and Sasuke were already crying. "Please, mother! I don't want to lose you!" The puppy's voice started to become even more and more heartbroken. "Mother!" His last cry could be heard throughout the sky. "MOTHER!" As much as the puppy didn't want to believe it, his mother truly was... dead.

The next morning, the puppy was still morning his mother, standing over a grave he, GB, Sasuke, and Smith made for her. He was still crying, and GB could sense the feeling all too personally. He walked over to the puppy, encouraging him to keep going. "Kid. We should get going." The puppy looked at GB, who showed that he wanted to help him fulfill Sakura's request. "No amount of crying is going to bring her back. We should travel to Ohu together, and help you meet your father."

The puppy stepped off of the grave, and GB saw that it would take him some time to truly become a leader. "Don't worry. You have plenty of time to become as tough as Gin." The puppy felt a strong sense of joy when being around GB, who then realized that the puppy needed a name. "That's right. Your mother didn't say what your name was. I'll think of a good name for you." The puppy waited patiently as GB thought of a good name for him. "A strong name, but a small one too. Easy to remember, and says something about who you are."

GB looked around for a bit, up until he noticed a the weeds next to the puppy's front paw. With that, GB declared the puppy's new name. "I've got it! Your name will be Weed!" Weed was curious about that name, and GB explained where he got it from. "The country I was born in referred to wild plants as weeds. Just look around."

Weed looked around as GB suggested, finding himself intrigued by how many weeds there were. He couldn't help smiling and laughing as he realized just how many weeds there were in the area. "They're all around us!"

"Exactly. And that means you'll never be alone." GB explained, giving the name deeper meaning and symbolism. "You'll always have friends surrounding you, wherever you go."

Weed smiled proudly, looking to GB gratefully in response to his new name. "Thank you, GB. I love it."

GB smiled before Smith addressed what he said about traveling with him and Weed. "You said 'we' should travel to Ohu." GB looked at Smith, who seemed okay with bringing him along. "Does that mean you'll be coming with us?"

"That's right! I want to change myself into something worthwhile! Something better than working for that bastard Nero." GB explained, getting excited just thinking about who the new him would be. "Damn. I'm getting excited just thinking about it. A new me who knows his true side!"

Weed was glad GB was coming, and Sasuke had some words of his own. "You know what? Yeah, fuck Nero! I'm leaving his group so I can head out and find my old owner."

"There's an idea." Smith chimed in, glad to see that Sasuke had a goal in mind. "Perhaps our goals will cross paths overtime."

Weed got more and more excited as he kept thinking about meeting his father. He wanted to finally see him in person, and also know why he stayed away. He didn't hold any ill will towards Gin. He just wanted to know why protecting Ohu kept him away for so long. "I'm finally going to meet my father. I can't believe I'm finally going to meet my father!"

GB was ecstatic to see Weed in high spirits again. Seeing him happy brought a whole world of joy to his own. He decided to take it upon himself to help Weed see this through. "And I'll be right there with you every step of the way." And from then on, a strong bond between Weed and GB blossomed. One that they hoped would grow as time went on.

Weed rushed onward to the front of the hill he and his mother lived on. "Come on, GB, Smith! We have a long road ahead of us!"

GB loved Weed's energy, despite pointing out how soon it came after he finished grieving. "First comes crying, and then comes excitement. I could get used to this combination." Weed looked over the horizon with GB, Smith, and Sasuke. From that day onward, he was going to travel as long and as hard as he needed to so he could meet his father, and potentially, help him save Ohu.

On this day, a new part of the Ginga legend begins.

Weed's confident smile as he looked over the horizon showed that it wasn't going to be easy to make him stop moving.

This, is The Ginga Legend: Weed's Story.

Elsewhere, a bird was eating some crumbs of something on the ground before a dagger swooped down and stabbed it, killing it instantly. After it did, a female Kishu about Weed's age jumped down from a nearby tree branch and landed on her hind legs. She stood on said hind legs as well as she took the dagger out of the bird and inspected it. Surely enough, the bird was dead. This was exactly what she was hoping for, and she looked off in the hopes that it would be enough for what she was trying to do. "You'd better keep your word, Blue."

And with that, the Kishu ran off, presumably to find this 'Blue' she spoke of to give him the bird. She had a look of desperation and fear on her face. It was clear that this was much more than bringing food to another Canine.

To be continued.
