On the run from Urko's search parties, Galen sprains his ankle, and the group needs to find shelter to allow him to heal. After their capture, Virdon and Burke find themselves in a world where intelligent, talking apes are the masters, and humans are regarded as animal pests. Galen is injured, Virdon and Burke along with Galens one time servant and pet, Noni, find a quiet little farm and seek help for their injured friend. In payment, Virdon and Burke help the farmer to make his farm more profitable.
