This is the third and final remake of the first chapter. When I started to write this fanfiction, I didn't know a lot about Skyrim's world and lore. I rewrote it once to make it more lore-accurate, but I didn't include certain aspects that were going to be important further along in the story. Once more, this is the final remake. I promise not to rewrite this again. (Unless any major, book-altering plotholes need to be fixed ;)) With all that said, please enjoy my fanfiction! Hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 1

Prologue(Revised)

The old knight's rusted armor clinked as he sat down. Leaves grew off of his pauldrons, and his shield was battered and well-used. The man on the inside of the armor was no better. He was only a skeleton, with a single red, glowing eye shining out of his left eye socket. As he moved, his body shifted in and out of reality, mirroring the swirling mist all around him and the young hero standing before him. The hero followed his mentor's lead, sitting on the ground as well, leaning against a crumbling wall.

"You've told me all about your adventures- the ones I saw written in stories when I was a kid. Are there any that haven't been written about?", Link asked. The shade of the previous hero, also named Link, looked into the mist around them with his remaining eye. He seemed to be searching for something, but he didn't find whatever it was.

"I have one story I have yet to tell. However, this story is the most unbelievable of all of my adventures. Will you believe me if I do tell you?" This gave the young Link some pause. After a few seconds, thinking about all of his own adventures, he nodded.

"Please, tell me what happened.", he said. The shade adjusted his seating, his armor clinking, and he pulled off his damaged helm. All that was left was the grinning skull of a skeleton, but Link didn't flinch.

"I see. This is a legend of dragons, pain, and exploration. This legend started, in a land called Skyrim…"

"My name was Link, but those who knew me in life saw both the Hero of Time, the Hero of Termina, and the legendary Dragonborn. I've gone through more adventures and quests in my life than a man would in ten, and it all started in a land named Hyrule. Hyrule was my birthplace, and I was raised in a blissful and ignorant childhood for only ten years. I lived among the Kokiri, a race of child-like spirits that live within the Lost Woods of Hyrule. I lived with them for ten* years until I was called by the will of the goddesses. I was pulled into an adventure at an age at which no child should even leave their parents. I was sent on the quest given to me, where I unwittingly played into the hands of my rival: Ganondorf. I was transported seven years into the future, trapped in the Sacred Realm until I was 17. Heh. Imagine that, being a 10-year-old trapped in the body of a 17-year-old. From there, I had to save Hyrule and defeat Ganondorf through many trials and many quests. Quests to make others happy, to stop suffering, to save people. I had little time even to process what I was going through. When it was all finally over, I was sent back in time so I could prevent the entire event from happening. Nobody remembered me, then. All of my sacrifices and my suffering were forgotten by the people in that timeline.

After preventing the whole string of world-ending events from happening again, I wandered Hyrule for a long time. I searched for my companion whom I had lost after my adventure. She left with no explanation, so I searched. I made my way to Termina, a doomed land that I was trapped in for… I don't even know. How can one count the passage of time when you go back every three days? I was forced to fix all of Termina's troubles again and again. When I finally defeated the evil demon who had caused the calamity, I was left alone once more. I wandered the Lost Woods, delving deeper and deeper into its groves and meadows. I did not wander for long, however. Staying too long in the lost woods can turn one into a Stalfos. I found a home outside of the woods, in Lon-Lon ranch, and stayed there to recover. Two decades passed, and I had grown into a full man by then. I had a thick, golden beard that was beginning to gray at its edges, and fierce blue eyes. I spent that time seeing old friends and making amends and learning how to farm. The time that I spent with Malon and her father was simple, and I liked it that way. For a while.

Years passed, and I grew restless. It was stupid, I know, but my adventures had made me anxious, always wanting to do something to keep my thoughts away. I longed to explore again, to visit new places, to meet new people, all without having the burden of being a hero on a quest. After all I had done, I thought that is what I deserved. I had lost Courage, and didn't want to be a hero. All I wanted was a vacation. Eventually, after a tearful goodbye with the Lon's, I went back out into the world, leaving Hyrule for the first time. I visited lands known as Labrynna, Holodrum, and Subrosia, all places with rich histories. Yet, I didn't feel the same as I did during my first adventure, my great quest to save Hyrule. Desperate to find the same feeling as before, I hired a ship to sail me across the sea to new lands, all unknown and full of potential. It wasn't hard to find a boat when I had such a large quantity of rupees. My adventures previously had given me a small fortune, which I had saved for years until then. That was when my final, and possibly most dangerous adventure, began.

It was a new experience, sailing on a ship. All around me was nothing but an endless expanse of water. It soothed my mind in a way that could only be described as serene. The waves lapped against the hull of the sailing ship, and I sat peacefully on a bench in the lotus position. I breathed in and out, in a pattern that Princess Zelda had taught me. For a time, I also stayed with Zelda, training with the royal guard and taking lessons that Zelda insisted she teach herself. She was very wise, as would be guessed from her possession of the Triforce of Wisdom, but had a habit of thinking that she was the best at teaching everything. It was quite amusing sometimes, and it led to many lessons being taken over by her. I didn't mind, and I still learned much, despite my preference for the sword rather than my intellect. In her lessons, she taught political debate, meditation, how to access my magic better, and even strategy for battles and war. I soaked in much of what she taught me, and we became close friends. That made it all the more difficult to leave her. I was brought out of my meditation when I heard a shout come from a sailor in the crow's nest.

"Fogbank!" the man cried out. And indeed, a hazy bank of fog had appeared on the horizon. The captain, a short Hylian woman named Morida scowled at the approaching barrier through a spyglass.

"Where in Hylia's name did that come from? Our predictions showed clear weather for the entire trip!" Shrugging, I still sat in the lotus position, my sword lying on my lap. As time passed, the boat came closer and closer to the fog bank, which seemed to stretch out forever in both directions. Lighting lanterns, the crew of the ship tentatively sailed into the misty wall. After only minutes, the mist hung in the air like a tangible curtain, making it almost impossible to see ten feet ahead of me. Carefully walking to the rail, I gazed into the endless gray void. Its thickness was no doubt surprising for the time of year, but Morida did her best to pilot the boat. It was extremely difficult even with a compass. The rocking of the boat, the serene beauty of the mist, and the setting sun made me sleepy. Despite the strangeness of my situation, I felt sleepy, so I went below decks to my cot. It took only moments for me to fall asleep, but just before my consciousness slipped away, I swear I heard a whisper.

"You are needed.", was the last thing I heard before my eyes closed.

I was lying down, weightless, sightless. There was nothing but pitch blackness all around me. I was dreaming, but I couldn't tell what I was seeing. It was only after what seemed like an eternity that lights started to appear in my vision. Stars, galaxies expanding, filling the darkness. I zoomed through the milky galaxies, gazing in wonder at the majesty of it all. Coming closer to one particular star, I saw a galaxy of 8 planets, one, in particular, getting ever closer. Looking at its blue oceans and green continents, I felt like a god perceiving his own world. My velocity increased, and I fell ever closer to the planet. Everything became a blur, and I impacted the earth, waking with a jolt.

*In an interview, Miyamoto claimed that Link was 12 when his adventure started. Theories about Link's age are anywhere from 9 to 12 years old. I personally think that Link was 10 years old when his adventure started.
