Chapter 4
Ginny's True Reaction
May 3rd 1998
Once the Weasleys and Hermione had gone Harry curled up resting his head against Severus's lap as he looked toward Tonks. He smiled softly knowing that his friend had lost her mother in the final battle. The young metamorphmagus was like a sister to him. Taking a deep breath he tried to find the right words, aware that his parents and Sirius were still watching from their portraits which were now placed on the wall above the fireplace.
"I'm sorry for your loss Tonks, Andromeda would be very proud of you. I know it's not the same but all of us will be able to tell Teddy about his grandparents, thank you for making me godfather." Harry said softly knowing how much it hurt to lose both of your parents to Voldemort.
"We couldn't think of anyone else who we would want to be Teddy's godfather. He is part Marauder after all. Mum and Dad were soulmates I'm pretty sure that either way mum would have followed Dad as soon as she could. We will have Guardian Angels for life." Tonks said softly, the pain in her voice clear to see.
"It'll be strange, going back to Hogwarts without the threat of being hunted at the end of the year. Not that I'm complaining about it. It's just…" Harry started as he tried to calm his stomach.
"You're used to watching over your shoulder every term. And though there are likely going to be people who wanted Voldemort to win, the majority will be happy it's all over. I won't let anyone hurt you or our baby." Severus said quietly laying his hand over Harry's baby bump as he tried to soothe the sickness. "Maybe we should have a re-sort and see if some students are meant to be in the same houses I think Draco would suit gold and red."
Harry chuckled lightly as he looked into his husband's eyes. "I'd like to be in the same house as Draco but I think that it will be me that changes house. I was always meant to be a Slytherin, if Draco hadn't insulted Ron it's likely we could have been friends from the start."
"Are you telling me that if my godson hadn't opened his mouth then I would have been able to discover what Tuney and her oaf of a husband did sooner." Severus asked. "I believe I am going to have a few words with Draco before school begins."
"Just remember that Draco was more than likely following the orders of Lucius back then, after all the phrase he threw around back when we were eleven was "My father will hear about this." Harry said softly, shifting in his seat as he tried to get comfortable, noticing Remus and Tonks stand up to leave. "You don't have to go."
"When the battle started we left Teddy in the safety of Gabrielle Delecour, though our son is a metamorphmagus I have a feeling he will be wanting to eat soon." Tonks explained softly.
"Of course, we can make arrangements to meet up, I can't wait to meet my godson." Harry said softly looking at the portrait of his own godfather trying to hide his laughter. "Paddy I would not be so smug if I were you. I might not have been raised by you, to become a Marauder in name, however you forgot I lived with Dudley, I can prank just as well as you. After all how else do you think Fred and George managed to open their shop."
"You?" Remus, Sirius and Severus said together, the first two clearly through shock. However he knew that the way Severus had sounded in awe.
"I didn't win the Tri Wizard Tournament I was entered into it illegally and by rights the money should have gone to The Diggory Family however they wouldn't take it, so I knew with him back we would need some light relief. Just don't let Molly know that Im behind it. It's one thing to accept that I won't be her son in law, however I know how much she tried to stop them. Not sure why they're brilliantly talented."
"You're right, my love that is the perfect prank." Severus said softly, seeing the hint of nausea returning to his husband as his face began to turn a shade of green.
"We'll see you soon, cub. Sleep well." Remus said softly kissing his godson's forehead gently. He had never seen Harry so content and if anyone tried anything they wouldn't like what happened if they upset him. Taking hold of Tonk's hand they flooded back to Grimmauld Place and their son.
Once Remus and Tonks left Severus helped Harry to his feet, holding him close as he heard the low gurgling of his stomach. He was just about to lead his husband to their bedroom when he heard the floo roar to life again. He heard the low groan from Harry knowing that his husband was done with the company for one night. Rubbing his back gently he tried to soothe his soulmate wanting to yell at whoever had dared to interrupt the short time to relax before he began to feel sick again.
Turning them back toward the fireplace, he watched as Harry buried his head into his chest, just as a head of ginger hair entered the room and the youngest Weasley reappeared in their quarters. He sighed softly, knowing that unfortunately Harry's fear about the youngest Weasley seemed to be coming true.
"Miss Weasley I suggest you turn around and head home immediately otherwise I shall call Molly myself." Severus said darkly.
"Ginny please just go." Harry pleaded, the nausea and pain mixing together and making his already sick stomach worse.
"Why should I?" Ginny shouted. "I waited for you to come back. And then you just turn up and tell us that you're married."
"Get over me, Ginny I have never felt anything but brotherly love for you. I didn't save you from that Basilisk because I was developing feelings for you. I did it because I didn't have anywhere else to go. I lived with muggles who beat the crap out of me on a regular basis. I also didn't want my first friend to lose his sister. Just go away Ginny." Harry said quietly the tears starting to fall.
"I .. I .. saw you. That day you were happy I was okay." Ginny said sounding unsure of herself suddenly.
"What you saw was relief that the first person to ever talk to me without being scared off by my cousin wouldn't lose his family. Because believe me Gin, if I could have my parents and Siri back I would do anything. Nothing will ever happen between us. I'm with my soulmate why would I want to be with anyone else." Harry got out before he started to let his emotions release, leaning into his husband as tears freely fell.
"Go, now before I do something I regret. And Miss Weasley, you have just found yourself in detention for a month, starting the moment that you return for the school year." Severus ground out as he watched the youngest Weasley disappear quickly into the green flames.
Holding Harry in his arms Severus led his exhausted husband to their bedroom, helping him undress and get into some pyjama pants. His hand automatically gravitated toward his husband's barely there baby bump as he ran his thumb over his belly button, once again hearing Harry's stomach gurgle again. He knew the moment that he looked at Harry that his husband wasn't going to make it to the bathroom this time.
"Accio trash can." Severus said quietly milking softly as the nearest trash can flew into his free hand. Kissing Harry's forehead he looked into his green eyes seeing how tired and sick his husband truly was. "I'm here, you never have to hide how bad morning sickness is in front of me," he said softly holding the trash can to his husband's mouth as his other hand continued to rub over Harry's belly button.
Harry nodded softly letting Severus know that he had heard him, leaning over the trash can as he vomited heavily into the trash can. The nerves of the day, Ginny's words and moaning sickness winning as he groaned. "I didn't think it was possible to feel this sick." he said tiredly. "I still need to talk to Dumbledore."
"Albus won't be going anywhere Harry, in fact I think that he had just become your newest guardian thanks to Ginerva and her delusions," he soothed rubbing Harry's baby bump gently. "Should I leave this next to the bed?"
"I think that might be wise this is the worst I've felt since it started." Harry said quietly climbing into his side of the bed, curling up. It was definitely going to be a long school year if this was how Ginny was going to react every time he saw her. Maybe he should write to Molly. He knew the Weasley matriach was upset that he wouldn't be marrying Ginny but even she accepted that he was happy. She might not completely be happy but like everyone else she had accepted his marriage.
"It seems like this has set in for the foreseeable. If that's the case then I will make arrangements that you can do your assignments as soon as possible. It seems like there are days when you are feeling more sick than others, on those days I'll tutor you from here." Severus said quietly.
"I'd like that." Harry said softly, the tears from his confrontation with Ginny still pouring down his cheeks, little did he know that his speech had set in motion a gift given from Death himself. Leaning his head against Severus's shoulder he began to fall asleep, exhaustion finally taking over. "G'night."
"Goodnight my doe." Severus said quietly, watching Harry sleep a while longer before sleep took him. He was definitely going to make sure that girl suffered, no one made his pregnant husband cry and got away with it.
The Next Morning
Harry knew that it was only a matter of time before his morning sickness started to appear during the night. After the emotional turmoil of the day, killing Voldemort, revealing his marriage and child to everyone and then everything that happened with Ginny, it was no wonder it was tonight of all nights that he found himself woken by nausea. Sitting bolt upright, he grabbed the trash can from beside the bed leaning over it as he threw up. Sighing softly, he closed his eyes feeling his stomach lurch again as another bout morning sickness hit.
Sliding out of bed, he made his way into their quarters, which like the classrooms themselves was stationed behind the Headmaster's office. Grabbing his wand from the side table he made the vomit disappear, taking a small breath out as he felt his stomach gurgle again. Once again he found himself asking the question "Why do they call it morning sickness when it lasts all day," he said out loud almost jumping out of his skin as he heard someone speak.
"I asked myself that every day for nine months when I was pregnant with you." Lily said quietly. "My nickname for Severus was Sev and we met in a park at Spinner's End."
"How?" Harry managed to get out as he watched his father and Sirius enter the room. Sitting down at the kitchen table he rubbed his still sick stomach gently.
"When you were talking to Ginny, the passion you had for her family despite the way that she acted toward you. The moment you cast Expelliamus at Draco Malfoy and were in possession of the Resurrection Stone, you became the Master of Death. Unlike others who this has happened to, the only reason you used it was for protection. Death sent us home. To be with our son." Lily explained.
"Sev you need to wake up and see this." Harry yelled, knowing how much of a light sleeper his husband was, it was possible that he was already awake. Sure enough a few moments later Severus shot into the room.
"What is it? Are you okay? The baby?" Severus asked checking his husband over sighing in relief as he saw that his husband and child were in one piece.
"Hey there Severus, I hope that we can put the past behind us for Harry's sake." James and Sirius said at the same time, making the headmaster jump.
"I think that we can do that. We are after all gown ups. Well one of you is. But how?" He asked looking to his friend. "Lily I'm so sorry."
"Hey." Sirius protested looking between Harry and Severus and their joined hands specifically their wedding bands. He had to admit he had never seen Harry look this content.
"Sev there is nothing to apologise for. We all did things back then that we shouldn't have. Me included. What matters now is that you went to Albus when it mattered. Voldemort kept his promise to you, he asked me to step aside but I couldn't let him have Harry. Given how you are both soulmates it was all worth it." Lily explained looking at her emotional son and his husband. "You've always been my best friend.
Harry watched his husband and his mother talking, he had to stop his jaw from dropping as his father and godfather had apologised for everything they put his soulmate through when they were teenagers. His thoughts were brought back to how sick he was feeling as he felt his stomach roll and the watery feeling rising in his throat. "Excuse me," he said quietly making a dash for the bathroom that was joined onto their quarters kneeling in front of the toilet as he vomited.
Sirius, James and Lily watched on as their boy ran into the bathroom. Only Lily could understand how sick her son was feeling. They did however smile to themselves when they saw Severus instantly go to Harry's side. It was this moment that cemented Sirius and James's minds at ease. Sirius might be his godfather however, as Harry was about to find out, though he was now back, he had adopted him in secret just before his death, giving him all the rights to become Lord Black.
Harry groaned as he threw up again, this was definitely the worst he had felt. Leaning his head against his arm he was sure it wouldn't be long before he was throwing up again, closing his eyes he took small breaths out as he tried to calm his churning stomach. He was suddenly thankful that he would not be sharing the Gryffindor dorms with Seamus, Dean, Ron and Neville. Seamus was likely to make fun of him, Ron wouldn't know what to do, and Dean would likely follow Seamus's every word. Neville would be the only one who wouldn't either make fun or feel awkward.
Just as his stomach turned again, he heard the door open again as his husband sat on the floor with him. Just as he felt Sev's strong hand against his back he pulled himself over the toilet again as he vomited. Once he was done, he leaned against his husband completely exhausted. He knew in this moment that his morning sickness had set in for the remainder of his pregnancy.
"Just when we thought that it would be a quiet year at Hogwarts." Harry said softly looking into his husband's onyx eyes. "Minerva is going to have a fit when she finds out. Oh and imagine the look on Filch's face." he said through a groan.
"You still feel sick?" Severus asked frowning. He hated to see Harry feeling so sick, however he also knew through helping some of his students who had found themselves in this situation when it hadn't been planned that it was simply part of pregnancy. In time he hoped his husband would start feeling better though he was ready to step in if he needed to.
"Day and night, there's no time that I'm not nauseous," Harry admitted quietly. How exactly are we going to explain to the outside world that my very dead parents and godfather have been returned from Death himself. I had wanted to keep the fact I'm the Master of Death quiet."
"Perhaps we should think about self study in some of your courses this term, just in the last few days you've barely been able to leave the bathroom." Severus suggested. "As for explaining your parents and Sirius's return, it shouldn't be so difficult now that Cornelius Fudge isn't Minister. Kingsley has always been fair. Are you ready to head back into the living room."
"I think that might be a good idea, this is the worst I've felt since I started to feel sick." He said quietly reaching his hand out to Severus to help him up as he brushed his teeth again. "Kingsley is going to regret becoming Minister." Harry chuckled as he rubbed his still queasy stomach gently, leaning into Severus as they made their way back into the living room, blushing red as he saw his family watching them.
"Don't be embarrassed little Prongs." James said softly. "We are your family there will be no jokes. Your mother especially knows how you are feeling." He said softly wrapping his arms around Lily.
"Did you feel this sick with me?" Harry asked curling up on the couch as Severus brought him back into his arms once he had sat down.
"I felt and was sick throughout my pregnant with you. Though you feel rough now, in the end when you're holding your little one in your arms you'll forget about how sick you felt." Lily soothed her son.
"At least I have someone to talk to now, after everything that's just happened with Ginny I'm not sure I'm going to be very popular at The Burrow, especially if she lies about what happened." Harry said quietly, turning his head as the floo roared to life again. Leaning into his husband he sighed softly, not ready for another confrontation. Looking up he saw two redheads, however it wasn't the two he had expected to see. Smiling slightly he watched as Bill and Charlie pulled out their wands pointing them at his parents. Clearly the eldest Weasley boys thought that his parents were death eaters in disguise.
"They are who they say they are Bill put that wand away if you don't want to lose limbs." Harry threatened darkly.
"How do you know that it's truly them?" Charlie asked not putting his wand away.
"Perhaps because my mother just forgave my husband for saying the worst word you can say to a muggleborn at the age of fifteen or maybe it's the fact that my father just called me little Prongs that Remus has told me multiple times was his nickname for me as a child given his animagus is a stag like my patronus. Or JUST MAYBE it's the fact that Sirius just apologised for sending him to a werewolf at sixteen. I swear to god if you hurt my family I'll cash in on the life debts your family owe me. I've saved your father, your spineless sister and lets not forget we were captured at Malfoy Manor and Ron was saved by Dobby."
"Calm down Harry." Severus soothed glaring at the eldest Weasley boys. "Watch your step, your sister has upset my pregnant husband enough thank you."
"About that, can you explain why Ginny came back in tears saying Harry yelled at her. When we asked what happened she said she just wanted to talk." Bill asked clearly confused.
"Just wanted to talk? She barged in here as we were on our way to bed. I'm pretty sure you were around your mother when she was pregnant, nausea is very prominent as is tiredness. GINERVA burst into our apartment, demanding to me that she waited for me, that the reason I saved her in the Chamber of Secrets is because I felt the same. All I did was correct her that the only reason I saved her from that basilisk was because Hogwarts is my home. And I didn't want Ron to lose his family." Harry growled out leaning into his mother as Severus stood up to face Bill.
"You heard my husband, your sister is lucky she left this apartment in one piece. If she can't get it through her head that Harry and I are not only married but bonded soulmates, she is hearby EXPELLED from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry." Severus stated as a scroll of parchment handing the already written out and signed letter. "I WON'T put my family at risk, my pregnant husband, or our unborn child. And I especially wont allow him to lose his parents again."
Charlie took the scroll from Severus, nodding quietly to Harry, he may not have known the young man long however he knew that Harry didn't lie. Looking to his brother he flooed out leaving Bill to apologise to his former potions master and his husband.
Bill pushed his wand back into the wand holster he used. Turning to face Harry he sighed softly sitting down and rubbing a hand across his face. Ginny had always been told about The Boy Who Lived, their mother had used his story as a bedtime story for his youngest sister. What his mother had failed to see was behind the story was a boy who never knew anything about his world until he rejoined it. And now, now he was a young man starting a family of his own.
"I'm sorry, my mother used to tell Ginny your story, how you defeated Voldemort as a bedtime story, she'd been infatuated with you well before you met my family on the platform at 11. You have my word that she won't be back, I'll home school her from Shell cottage myself if mum tries to protest. Don't let it affect Ron. Please." Bill said quietly fearful his sister would ruin the friendship he had with Harry."
"Ron was my first friend, we've had our differences but that's what everyone experiences growing up, and it's not like I wanted to be in that stupid tournament. I also support Fred and George with their business I'm their silent partner. Oh and Bill, meet the Marauders, Sirius is Padfoot, Dad is Prongs, Remus is Moony and if you think Fred and George's pranks are bad well…. …if you want your sister to be recognisable keep her away from me."
"Don't worry Harry I'll keep her away and if she disobeys then I'll send her to Aunt Muriel." Bill promised.
"Thank you, I don't want to cause problems, but we aren't children anymore, I've only ever seen Ginny as a sister. Hogwarts is my home, more now than ever before. I would do anything to save it. Ive done my part to save the Wizarding world, I don't want to fight anymore, I'm not Harry Potter anymore, I'm Harry Snape Prince, the sooner you get Ginny to realise this the better." Harry said quietly grabbing the trash can as he felt his stomach turn vomiting. "I'm sorry." He mumbled feeling Severus's hand against his baby bump rubbing it gently.
"Don't be Harry. You've done nothing wrong. Fleur is suffering too." Bill said quietly.
"Fleur's pregnant." Harry asked before throwing up again letting out a small groan.
"We found out just before the final battle. I'd say that you are due around the same time." Bill said proudly. "Congratulations I have to say I've never seen you this happy. As for your parents and Sirius getting their deceased status reversed I can help with that.
"Harry is to become Lord Black, I wont have it any other way. I've seen how trustworthy Draco is but he has the Malfoy fortune." Sirius's said quietly as Bill nodded taking down a note of everything on the parchment he had brought.
"What? HOW?" Harry felt a headache beginning as he rubbed his hand across his temples. "Never mind, you blood adopted me right?" He asked.
"Of course I did, did Albus not tell you?" Sirius asked.
"No he didn't." Harry said getting frustrated continuing to rub his temples. "I guess I'm awake for the morning now, I feel too sick to sleep and now my head is pounding."
"I'll be going. Take care of my niece or nephew Harry." Bill said quietly as he stepped into the floo disappearing in a flash of green.
Once Bill had gone Harry lay his head resting on the arm of the soft couch. It was official his morning sickness was now a permanent feature for the next few months, however despite how he felt he couldn't help but be happy, he was married to the love of his life, he was carrying the next Prince Heir and he had a chance to finally know his parents. He only hoped that Bill could reign in Ginny otherwise he knew that things wouldn't be the same with Molly.
