A.N. What up, peeps! Welcome to the turning point!
Now then, answering some reviews:
To King Devil Bringer: Yeah, I felt bad for what I had to do to poor Raven, but the results will be worth it! Also, Beast Boy should feel guilty because his actions will definitely have repercussions. At least I got to give Malchior the Mortal Kombat treatment!
To Dragonkit31: Yeah, Hydra has lots of distrust towards the Justice League, especially after what they almost did to his love. Let's just say that distrust won't be going away anytime soon.
To Nanonano15243: Malchior will meet his fate in due time. As for Raven and the Titans…that one's gonna be tricky.
To XxWildHeartXlllxX: Yeah, having a demonic sperm donor haunting your life can have interesting effects.
To iloveM.A.D.B.: I'm still a novice when it comes to writing romance, so I'm still learning about nuances and stuff. I was hoping that all of Hydra and Raven's interactions would provide enough building blocks for their romance.
To SixStringBase: Lol! Well, as they said on South Park, "Buckle up, Buckaroo!" because it's getting wilder from there.
To YuukiAsuna-Chan: Muahahaha!
To eniox: Sound Village didn't get as much respect as I wanted it to in canon. I hope I'm giving it justice here.
To Whatif-inator: Orochimaru did a lot of work on Naruto, but he didn't give him everything. Also, a wonderful idea for Kurama!
To ReaderandReview: The whole trope of characters in shows having honest character development only for it to disappear the next episode can get annoying and tiresome after a while *cough* familyguy *cough*. I wanted to portray some actual cause and effect occurring.
To Jiggly Joe: If that's the only thing you hate, I must be doing well lol! Also, I feel like a big portion of Raven's personality revolves around her keeping complete control of her emotions 24/7. Given everything that's happened to her since she met Malchior and Hydra, a lot of stuff that's been buried deep inside her is coming to light. If you're looking for assertiveness, though, hold onto your hat!
To Silvanium: Spoliers ;)
To one of the guests: It's always painful to love someone who's heart's set on another. My sympathies for Jinx.
To everyone else, thank you for your reviews and for lighting the fire under me to post more frequently. I respond quite well to peer pressure lol.
Now then, it's time for Raven and Malchior's relationship to arrive at its well-expected and action-packed conclusion!
Let'sgetiton!

Chapter 6: Revelations and Betrayals
Location: Unknown
Once again, he finds himself standing in the darkened void, his immediate vicinity being the only visible area. Once again, he struggles to steady his breathing. Once again, he feels the tears stream down his face. Once again, he's holding the kunai with freshly drawn blood dripping from the blade.
Once again, he sees the fair skinned little girl with long black hair and black irises standing before him. Once again, she bleeds profusely from the knife wound in her chest.
Once again, with blood oozing from her mouth…she smiles.
{Thank you for being my friend, Naruto-kun.}
Location: Hydra's Room, Hive Academy
Time: Midnight
"KIN!"
Hydra is now sitting upright in his bed, having been abruptly awakened by the nightmare. His body is soaked in sweat and his slit pupils are dilated as he wheezes rapidly.
"Kit. Listen to me, kit," Kurama commands calmly yet firmly. "Can you hear me?"
The teenage boy quickly nods.
"Breath, kit. Remember the counts," Kurama instructs. "I'm right here, brother."
Following the instruction, Hydra breaths in through his nose.
'1. 2. 3. 4.'
He holds his breath.
'1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.'
He slowly exhales back through his nose.
'1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.'
Hydra repeats the process, allowing the deep breathing to re-center himself and calm his heart. After a few minutes, he's composed himself, and he remembers his current lodgings at Hive Academy.
It's been two days since his joint heist with Red X at Titans Tower, during which he smacked around a couple of beasts, beat the piss and blood out of a despised wizard, and had another heart-to-heart with his beloved Raven.
All in all, a job well done…except for his partner ditching him immediately afterwards.
Unfortunately, things went downhill some more during the Big Dance when his date – Jinx – got into it with their classmate Cheshire over him. This resulted in Hydra revealing his love for Raven, resulting in Jinx giving him a slap, a glare filled with tears, and a kiss goodnight.
Ever since then, things have been…awkward between the two of them. Hydra still thinks of Jinx as his best friend, and she still feels the same for him, but he's sensed that she's trying to adjust to the new dynamic.
As for Cheshire, the fact that Brother Blood hasn't called for Hydra's…well, blood, it's safe to say that she hasn't revealed his love for Raven to the headmaster. For what reason she hasn't done so, Hydra is still trying to figure out.
But that's not what's keeping him up tonight.
"That one again?" Kurama asks.
Hydra nods. 'Even after all this time, she still…'
"Orochimaru was a bastard for what he did. You shouldn't have to keep paying for it," Kurama states bitterly. "I wish I could help you get rid of your nightmares, kit."
'You help me plenty, brother. Thank you,' Hydra thinks gratefully.
The boy smirks as he can feel the fox getting embarrassed.
"S-Stop being sentimental and finish your rest, brat," Kurama advises. "You've got a big day ahead of you."
Hydra curls up and hugs his knees. 'I'll try.'
Kurama suddenly snickers. "You know who you really want in your dreams, right?"
Hydra smiles in response. 'They won't be dreams for long.'
Location: Living Room, Titans Tower
Timeskip: Morning
Once again, it's a bright sunny morning in Jump City. At the moment, four of the Titans are in the living room, with Starfire helping Cyborg cook breakfast and Robin typing away at the computer. Beast Boy, meanwhile, is continuing his marathon of the Dragon Ball series, which he proclaims (like countless others do, including the author) to be a masterpiece of anime that has touched the hearts and souls of generations.
None of the heroes are quite feeling the bright and sunny warmth today.
It's not just the fact that Hydra defeated the team once again, this time in their own home. It's not just that Robin's greatest mistake, Red X, is back at full strength and roaming around freely.
Mainly, it's about their teammate and friend, Raven.
The events of two nights ago, including Beast Boy's chemically induced tirade, have drastically increased the distance between the sorceress and her fellow Titans. Beforehand, Raven would only interact with the others during meals and missions, with the rest of the time being spent in her room doing magical training. Now, however, she's gone out of her way to have separate mealtimes than her comrades, and though there haven't been any missions since that night, Robin has been concerned about her ability to coordinate and cooperate with the team. Occasionally, the other Titans would catch Raven in the hallways and try to make conversation with her, only for her to quickly scurry away or escape with her magic.
Strangely, they've noticed that Raven has been smiling more since that night, and her outfit hasn't been flickering between white and blue. Not only that, but she hasn't developed any fresh bruises since that night.
The group has suspected that the relationship between Raven and her boyfriend Malchior has shifted somewhat. Perhaps the ass-kicking delivered to the wizard by Hydra had something to do with it.
Speaking of the wizard…
The entrance to the living room opens as Malchior walks through the doorway with a yawn. Upon entering the room, however, the wizard pauses when all four teenagers in the room turn to address his presence.
None of their expressions are welcoming.
Malchior coughs awkwardly before walking to the kitchen table and taking a seat. He then clears his throat and looks towards Cyborg.
"So, should I be making my own breakfast, or is there some of that for me?" Malchior asks.
Cyborg narrows his eyes at the newcomer. "…There's just enough for you."
Malchior smiles rigidly. "Wonderful. Thank you very much."
"No problem," Cyborg responds before turning back to his cooking, though occasionally glancing back at Malchior with suspicion.
The disguised dragon notices that Starfire is looking at him with distrust, Robin's gaze has an interrogative feel, and Beast Boy has the most exaggerated scowl he's ever seen.
Malchior huffs in annoyance. "Words cannot describe how audible your silent questions are."
Robin starts it off. "What's going on between you and Raven?"
Malchior's teeth clench in his mouth for a moment before he answers, "Nothing."
"What do you mean 'nothing'?" Robin questions.
"I mean that we've been taking a break from magical training since I got injured two days ago – I'm fine, by the way," Malchior responds. "I'm planning on picking it back up later today."
"And what of your relationship together?" Starfire asks.
Malchior looks confused. "What about it?"
"Did she dump you yet?" Beast Boy pipes up.
The false wizard glares at the changeling. "No, she did not dump me. We're still very much in love with each other, thank you very much." 'Except that she's barely spoken to me since that night, and she hasn't once said that she loves me.'
Beast Boy looks unconvinced.
Starfire asks, "So, you two have partaken in the traditional practices of romance and courtship here on Earth, including – but not limited to – the sharing of enjoyable recreation, the occasional buying of bountiful floral arrangements, and the varying amounts of premarital coitus?"
All the guys give Starfire shocked expressions.
"You, uh, seem to know an awful lot about Earth relationships, Star," Robin states with a tone of unexpectedness.
"But of course, Friend Robin. I have been studying Earth courtship practices enthusiastically. I am eager to find a potential romance for myself here on Earth, after all," Starfire says with a knowing look to the Boy Wonder, who blushes and gulps at the unspoken suggestion.
Malchior says, "Well, I've certainly given her some wonderful bouquets, and we've had a lovely time going through her book collection. Sadly, we haven't gotten to the, um, other bits. We've been rather busy with training, after all."
Beast Boy rolls his eyes. "Yeah, 'training'," he says while doing air quotes.
Malchior has a perplexed expression. "What–what is that?" he asks while mimicking the gesture. "What's this? Is this some modern thing?"
Starfire explains. "It is the gesture one does when putting extra quotation marks around a certain word. It is usually done to mock the usage of that word."
"First of all, thank you for the explanation, young lady," Malchior says politely to Starfire before glaring at Beast Boy. "Second of all, will you stop insulting my training practices?! Don't forget that it's the magic I've been teaching Raven that's been having the most success against Hydra!"
"Does the training have to leave bruises on Raven's body?" Robin questions.
"Sometimes, I have Raven build up her resistance to magical attacks and curses," Malchior explains. "You know, have her toughen up."
"Except that you've likely taught her magical attacks and curses to give as good as she gets," Robin points out, "yet you don't even have a scratch on you afterwards."
"That's what training dummies are for," Malchior retorts.
Robin and the other Titans in the room still give the false wizard suspicious looks.
"Oh, come on. Don't tell me you all believe Hydra's insinuations," Malchior says in a betrayed tone.
"It is not just the insinuations," Starfire explains. "We have witnessed multiple instances of you being rather rude and forceful with Raven."
"So, I've been frustrated sometimes because of the warlock running loose across the city. How exactly does that make me the villain here?" Malchior asks defensively.
Cyborg speaks up, "Look, man; you get frustrated, you go hit the gym and pump some iron, or you play a video game that lets you blow up robots or something, or do something else to blow off steam." He fixes up a plate of bacon and eggs and slides it to Malchior. "What you don't do is take that shit to your partner so that they have to deal with it. That ain't healthy at all."
Malchior groans tiredly as he picks up a piece of bacon. "I would rather not have this interrogation during breakfast."
"Hey, we're just looking out for our friend," Beast Boy declares.
Malchior looks annoyed. "Oh, yes. Of course, you are. We've all seen you express your 'friendship' towards Raven," he says sarcastically while making air quotes.
Beast Boy looks away with guilt while the others give Malchior angry looks.
Malchior asks, "What? Did I do that incorrectly?"
The doors suddenly open again, allowing Raven to enter the room and getting everyone else's attention.
The sorceress sighs. 'Nice timing, me,' she self-berates before heading for the kitchen.
Malchior gives the girl a big smile. "Raven, my sweet! It's always a pleasure to see your beautiful face!"
Beast Boy and Cyborg look at each other knowingly while making jerk-off motions with their hands.
Raven simply goes, "Thanks," as she floats past her boyfriend, making the man's smile quickly drop.
Cyborg then asks, "So, you going the herbal tea route today, or you want a plate?"
"Is there any tofu involved?" Raven asks back.
Cyborg scoffs. "C'mon, Rae. It's me we're talking about," he answers with a smirk.
Raven smirks back and holds out her hand. "Load me up."
Cyborg smiles happily. "You got it!"
As Cyborg fixes up another plate, Beast Boy quickly jumps off the couch, grabs a big paper bag, and hurries to Raven as she's brewing some tea.
"So, Raven," Beast Boy begins nervously. "I know I'm probably the last person you want to talk to right now, but yesterday I went shopping and bought some things for you."
Raven glances over at the changeling as he presents the bag to her. The girl quirks an eyebrow before accepting the bag and opening it. Looking surprised, she takes out one of the containers inside.
"Is this tea?" Raven asks. "You bought me tea?"
"Sure did!" Beast Boy responds happily. "I don't know much about tea, so I grabbed a whole bunch just to be sure."
Raven hums as she searches through the bag.
"Well, some of this is caffeinated, so that won't work for me," Raven states, making Beast Boy deflate a bit. "There is some good stuff in here, though. Chamomile, lavender, chai, decaf breakfast…" She then pulls out a yellow container. "This one would be good for Starfire."
"What is it?" Starfire asks curiously.
"It's turmeric tea," Raven answers. "Turmeric is one of the ingredients for prepared mustard."
Starfire's eyes light up. "Oh, that sounds scrumptious!" she exclaims happily before quickly composing herself. "I do not wish to be pilfering your gift, however."
Raven smiles and offers the container to the alien girl. "There's plenty of tea for me to spare now. Help yourself."
Starfire eagerly accepts the re-gifted tea. "A hundred thanks to you, my friend!"
Raven nods. "No problem," she says before accepting a plate from Cyborg.
Robin then approaches the sorceress. "So, Raven, I know you're more of a long-range attacker, but I was wondering if you'd be up for me giving you fighting lessons after lunch today. Just some basic hand-to-hand and self-defense stuff. Nothing too complicated."
Malchior scoffs. "As if that would be useful against a man with diamond fists," he mutters, earning a glare from the Boy Wonder.
Raven, however, glances at Malchior for a moment before smiling at Robin. "Sure. I'd be up for that."
Robin smiles back in delight. "That's great!"
Malchior, however, balks at this. "Uh, actually, Raven, I was planning on restarting our magical lessons after lunch."
While the other Titans glare at Malchior, Raven gives her "boyfriend" a deadpan expression.
"Would it hinder my magical abilities if I trained my body some beforehand?" Raven asks.
Malchior blinks, not expecting the question. "Well, not hinder exactly, but–"
"Are you implying that I can't take a few hits?" Raven continues with a knowing gleam in her eyes.
Malchior winces. "Of course not–"
"So, it should be fine for me to get some hand-to-hand lessons from my fellow Titan," Raven concludes, while the other Titans smile smugly at Malchior.
The disguised dragon clenches his fists and growls in his throat. "…Sure."
Raven smiles. "Super."
The sorceress magically lifts the bag of tea while holding her breakfast in her hands. She starts floating for the exit before pausing and looking back to her comrades.
"We're not there yet, just so we're clear," Raven states directly, before glancing at Cyborg, "but thanks for breakfast," then to Beast Boy, "and the tea," then to Robin, "and the lessons," and finally to Starfire's radiant smile, "…and that. Later."
With that, Raven floats out of the room, her food and goodies in tow.
As soon as the door closes, the four remaining Titans look excited.
"That totally went better than I thought it would!" Robin exclaims.
Cyborg shares the sentiment as he hands food out to his comrades, making sure that Beast Boy gets the vegetarian plate.
"Looks like giving her some days to herself helped out after all," Cyborg says.
Beast Boy has a determined look on his face. "Focus, dudes and dudette! We're gonna need a lot more than tea to get ourselves back on her Friends List!"
"We must strike while the iron is hot, my friends!" Starfire declares. "Perhaps we can express our solidarity by partaking in her gothic fashion choices."
"I've been wondering how I'd look with a black paint job," Cyborg comments.
Beast Boy jerks a thumb at Robin. "Mr. Gotham here's already got the attitude. He just needs the duds," he quips cheekily, getting a scowl from the Boy Wonder. "See?"
Robin sighs, before saying, "Let's not move too fast, Titans. We don't want to scare her off."
"We could just go to the bookstore and get her some new reading material," Cyborg offers.
"A bookstore?!" Beast Boy exclaims, before hugging himself and shivering. "I swore to myself I'd never step foot in one of those…or libraries."
"You must forswear that oath, Beast Boy," Starfire firmly demands. "Our friendship with Raven depends on it."
Robin nods. "Then it's settled. After breakfast, we'll head off to the city and buy Raven some new books. If we hurry, we'll be back by lunchtime."
The other three Titans make their own exclamations in agreement.
None of them pay attention to Malchior, who's glaring at his barely touched plate of food, having lost his appetite.
'That little wench! How dare she defy me! How could one moment of weakness from me have led her astray like this?!' Malchior rants in his mind. 'Raven will pay for this insolence! Her and that cursed Hydra!'
Location: Hallway, Titans Tower
"Achoo!"
Raven uncovers her nose from the crook of her arm and sniffles a bit from the unexpected sneeze before continuing back to her room.
'I didn't expect to run into the others this morning,' Raven muses to herself before her eyes are drawn to the bag floating next to her. 'I didn't expect the tea either.'
Since her realization two nights ago – and the blissful moments she had immediately afterwards – Raven had taken to separating herself from everyone else in the tower in order to properly process her new headspace. After two days of contemplation with some occasional masturbation sprinkled in, Raven can safely conclude that she is, in fact, now head-over-heels in love with Hydra. She's already resolved that upon her next encounter with the warlock, she would happily declare her surrender to him and submit to his passion.
There are a couple of problems with that, however, the Teen Titans being one of them.
Her friendship with the rest of the team, which was already shaky before, took a massive dive two nights ago. It's a tragic feeling to be surrounded by and have fought with a group, and yet still feeling so alone. Of course, she's not ignorant of the fact that she hasn't exactly made many attempts to strengthen their friendship, something that Beast Boy made painfully clear. Still, the loneliness has gotten to the point where she's considered cutting her losses and leaving the team behind.
This morning, however, the other Titans have shown that they're willing to try and rebuild their bonds with her. Maybe, just maybe, she can do the same.
Of course, dating Hydra would complicate matters greatly.
'Maybe I can convince him to join the team,' Raven ponders. 'He doesn't seem that hell-bent on being a true supervillain, and he said he'd considered being a superhero once. I'd just need to help him build trust with the others. Sure, they'd be wary of him at first, but once he's earned his place as a Teen Titan, we'd be unbeatable. I can have my friends again and Daddy. Everyone wins…except…'
Except the other issue: Malchior.
Raven shivers in disgust at the thought of the wizard. 'I can't believe I let myself love a guy like that,' she berates herself. 'Sure, he's taught me some magic, but he never truly showed that he cared for me. He used me to get out of that book, and he made me sacrifice my precious magical items to make him stronger. No more. As soon as I'm done with Robin's lessons today, I'm breaking up with Malchior for good. Then, I'll get a fresh start with my team and…him.'
The girl bites her lip as her mind brainstorms some delicious scenarios of Hydra ravaging her until her body is broken and her mind is mush.
Raven chuckles. "Daddy…I'm so ready for you."
Location: Cafeteria, Hive Academy
"Achoo!"
Hydra uncovers his nose from the crook of his arm and sniffles a bit from the unexpected sneeze before continuing to the table where his friends are waiting for him. Once he sits down, he stretches himself out a bit while letting out a massive yawn, his tired state being displayed.
He overhears a conversation between Mammoth and Gizmo. It seems the latter is giving the former a lecture about an artist named Toriyama Akira. The genius appears to be mourning the loss of the man. Apparently, Toriyama was a master of his craft.
'Well, we hope he enjoys his trip to the Pure Lands,' Hydra thinks idly.
A steaming mug of brown liquid slides right next to his tray.
"This should help."
Hydra looks and sees Jinx giving him a friendly smile while holding a mug of her own.
"Is this the 'coffee' we've been hearing so much about," Hydra asks as he picks up the mug and sniffs the liquid.
"Yep. It's an espresso," Jinx answers before taking a drink.
Following her example, Hydra finds himself perking up at the bitter and savory roasted flavor.
"This is wonderful!" Hydra exclaims happily.
Jinx smiles proudly. "Made it myself."
"You make coffee?" Hydra asks curiously.
"I worked as a barista once," Jinx explains.
"Well, nicely done," Hydra praises.
"Thanks," Jinx responds with a smile.
The two of them fall into a semi-comfortable silence as Gizmo continues his sermon to Mammoth, who is losing his interest in the topic.
"So, rough night?" Jinx asks.
Hydra nods. "Bad dream."
Jinx looks surprised. "I didn't know you could get bad dreams."
Hydra shrugs. "They pop up less and less nowadays, but when they do…,"
Jinx is concerned by the haunted gaze in Hydra's eyes.
The girl smiles reassuringly as she rubs Hydra's back. "Whenever you wanna talk about it…"
Hydra smiles back at the offer. "Thank you, Jinx."
Meanwhile, as Gizmo takes a breath, Mammoth seizes the opportunity to focus on the other two people at the table.
"So, uh, you guys, I couldn't help but notice you two have been acting a bit differently since the dance," Mammoth says, drawing Gizmo's attention.
"Yeah. What happened?" Gizmo asks. "I blacked-out that whole night."
Hydra and Jinx both look at each other for a moment.
"So, we did quite a bit of dancing," Hydra begins.
"Which was fun," Jinx adds.
"After that, there was a discussion about our current relationship."
"He learned some stuff about me, and vice-versa."
"Eventually, we decided that our relationship was perfect just the way it is."
"And then, we called it a night."
"So, there."
"Yeah."
The other two teen villains take a moment to digest the tandem explanation, as well as the massive rigid smiles on Hydra and Jinx's faces.
Gizmo breaks the silence first. "So, problems in bed or what?"
Sploosh!
The genius ends up with a face full of oatmeal courtesy of a hex bolt from an angry Jinx.
"I was just asking," Gizmo grumbles as he cleans his face up.
"So, you guys are cool, right?" Mammoth asks.
Hydra's next smile is much more natural. "We will be…eventually."
Jinx matches his smile with hers.
Something suddenly catches Mammoth's eye. "Guys, she's passing by again."
Everyone at the table looks and sees Cheshire walking past their table. The young assassin glances at Hydra for just a moment before looking forward and continuing her walk.
"Dude, she's been giving you those weird looks for two days now," Gizmo notes.
"Was she part of that little discussion at the dance?" Mammoth asks.
Hydra waves his hand in a so-so gesture.
"Hydra."
The Shinobian turns again and sees a familiar priestess approaching him.
"Morning, Sheila!" Hydra greets with a smile.
"Did you get enough sleep last night?" Sheila asks in concern.
"Don't worry, Sheila. We'll be just fine for the demonstration today," Hydra assures the priestess.
Sheila smiles pleasantly. "That's good to hear. It's at 11 o'clock, by the way, so don't be late."
"Of course, Sheila," Hydra replies.
Sheila nods and walks away, leaving the villains alone to finish breakfast.
"Congrats ahead of time, Hydra," Mammoth says. "Being scouted out by a supervillain after only a few weeks? You're making the big leagues."
Gizmo scoffs. "Whooptie-doo."
Hydra grins. "Indeed. Lucky us."
Jinx frowns a bit as she notices Hydra's grin doesn't quite reach his eyes.
Location: Robin's Room, Titans Tower
Timeskip: 10:30 a.m.
The Boy Wonder is currently standing in front of his computer as his screen shows a Zoom call waiting to connect. He sighs in defeat. He didn't exactly want to resort to this, but recent events have forced his hand.
Eventually, the call connects, and Batman appears on screen.
[Robin. It's been a while,] Batman greets with a straight face.
Robin's one of the few people in the world that can detect the slightest hints of surprise and joy in the Dark Knight's voice.
"Sorry if I caught you while you were resting," Robin apologizes.
[No need. I just got back from a mission with the League,] Batman states. [Besides, a wise crimefighter knows how to efficiently portion his rest time.]
Robin smirks. "The old three-hour sleep schedule."
Batman smirks back. [Indeed.] The smirk resets to default neutrality. [I take it there's been some developments since we last spoke?]
Robin sighs once again before explaining the events that occurred since their previous interaction. He describes his hallucinated nightmare of Slade, Hydra's slaying of Cinderblock and Plasmus, the abduction of Overload, the heist of the Black Pearl, the subsequent battle with Black Manta and the Hive, Beast Boy's chemical bath, the resulting mood change, the monstrous forms of Adonis and Beast Boy, Hydra's heist with Red X, and the battle that ensued which resulted in both thieves escaping. Robin also talks about Raven's deteriorating relationships with Malchior and the team, as well as Hydra seducing the sorceress. Batman doesn't say a word throughout the whole explanation, and Robin knows the older man is fully absorbing every word.
Once the explanation is done, Batman finally speaks, [Firstly, I'm happy that you were able to recover from Slade's reagent. It sounds like it has some striking resemblance to Scarecrow's fear toxin.]
Robin nods. "Crane wasn't afraid to spread his toxin wherever he went, and Slade's spent some time in Gotham in the past. He probably modified the formula for me."
[I'll have to interrogate Crane the next time I visit Arkham Asylum,] Batman notes. [Moving on, I'm curious as to why you never destroyed the Red X suit after you were done with it.]
"I was hoping to use it as a base for a future suit upgrade for Robin," The Boy Wonder explains. He then looks downcast. "It was also a reminder for me to never come close to crossing the line again."
Batman nods. [Both are understandable. Speaking of crossing lines, you mentioned how Beast Boy was being hostile towards the other Titans and nearly hurt Raven. That can't be overlooked.]
"We're monitoring him closely from now on," Robin informs. "He's back to his usual self, though he's confessed that The Beast is still inside him. We'll have to prepare for when The Beast returns."
[I hope for the team's sake that you'll be ready by then,] Batman says. He then folds his arms in front of him. [Now then, the crux of the matter; Hydra. You've been studying him for weeks now. What's your assessment of him?]
Robin immediately recognizes the question as a test.
"So far, from the details provided by him and Raven, I've learned that Hydra claims to be from another world entirely – by world, I mean planet," Robin explains while pacing across the room. "If that's true, then his people seem to use chakra like Raven does, except they use a different method of utilizing the energy than hers. They also seem like highly militaristic war-torn people. He's had years of combat experience and is a master of stealth and deception. He also has a massive pool of energy inside of him which boosts his magic, strength, speed, endurance, and stamina. Cutting him off from his personal pool doesn't work, since he has an equally massive secondary source from his kitsune patron. Our only options are to hit him twice with a functioning chakra disruptor or to seal his magic away. Nth Metal can also work to disrupt or neutralize his chakra."
[A shame that our supply of Nth Metal is limited,] Batman notes. [What about his personality?]
"Honestly, it's extremely atypical of conventional villains," Robin admits as he continues pacing. "His actions of stealing things and killing others; it seems like he sees them as part of his job with the Hive. He's boasted a couple of times about taking some enjoyment from the actions, but they seemed overacted, as if he's playing a role. When we fought him, there were multiple opportunities for him to kill us, but he didn't. That implies that killing isn't his go-to solution. I've entertained the notion that he's only arrived on Earth fairly recently, that he's unfamiliar with our ways, and that he just so happened to be found by the Hive."
[You think if he hadn't been found by the Hive, he wouldn't have become a villain?] Batman questions.
"It certainly wouldn't have been that fast for him to become one," Robin answers. "He could have been found by us Titans or the Justice League or the U.S. government or any number of groups. It's the same situation with Starfire when she crash-landed in Jump City. She just so happened to meet us. Hydra just so happened to meet them."
Batman feels immense pride for his ward's critical thinking, though he doesn't quite agree with the assessment. Robin indirectly implied that Hydra could have been a hero if circumstances were different. In Batman's opinion, if the boy truly was that altruistic, he would have been a hero already.
Batman then asks, [What about his interactions with Raven? Do you think he's genuinely in love with her?]
"My first instinct would be that he's using her for his own goals," Robin replies, "but I'm not certain of that anymore. He seems to cheer up when she's around. During their fights, there's no malice on his end. He appears to see them as friendly competition. He wants her to impress him, and she seems to be doing so. There've been times when he's chatted with her, comforted her, and overall been gentle with her. He's even healed her twice."
Batman quirks an eyebrow under his mask. [Twice?]
"Before the team went to get the Black Pearl back, I noticed a fresh black eye on Raven's face," Robin explains. "She still had it when we went into the battle. Hydra noticed it during the fight, and it pissed him off. They were then trapped together underground for a considerable amount of time. When Raven regrouped with us, her black eye was gone. She claimed that she fought Hydra and took the pearl back from him."
[But you think that Hydra healed her eye and gave her the pearl,] Batman deduces.
Robin nods. "I don't know what went down between them in those caverns, but they seemed to have reached some sort of friendly understanding. So much so that when they met again two weeks later, he openly healed her face again of bruising, which she easily accepted."
Some details stay in Batman's mind. [You mentioned that she's gotten a black eye and some bruising. Those came from Malchior, right?]
Robin sighs once again. "She claimed that they were from training with Malchior, but I and the other Titans are sure that he's beaten her. This was going on for weeks, but we never really had an opportunity to confront her about it before."
Batman's signature scowl appears. [That's highly concerning. Wait, you said was?]
"Ever since Hydra beat up Malchior, there haven't been any fresh bruises on Raven's body," Robin explains. "In fact, she and Malchior have had little interactions with each other for the past two days."
[Hmm. It seems Hydra's demonstrated to Raven that Malchior isn't as powerful or praiseworthy as she's been led to believe,] Batman guesses.
"The team and I are hoping that she'll break up with him soon," Robin says.
[Except her new single status would make her more vulnerable to Hydra's seductions, and it seems that she's been more than tempted already,] Batman states.
"We have some ideas to convince her that there's plenty more fish in the sea," Robin tells his mentor.
Batman narrows his eyes a bit. [But that's not why you called me, is it?]
"No," Robin confirms. "From what I've learned of Malchior's personality, once Raven breaks up with him, he won't take that lying down. We need to be ready for a fight, which means we need more information about Malchior, and since he's been less than descriptive about his past…"
Batman quickly understands. [How can I help?]
"Malchior claims to have lived in England during the 11th century. Just recently, I remembered that a certain someone lives just outside Gotham who was around during that time period," Robin recalls.
Batman rubs his chin in thought. [It's been a while since I paid Jason Blood a visit. I'll learn what I can from him. Was that it?]
Robin nods. "We'll take care of the rest."
Batman leans in closer to the screen. [Robin, once Malchior's taken care of, you and I need to have a serious talk about Raven.]
Robin glares at his teacher. "If you're insinuating that, then stop it. She won't go that far."
The two Gothamites stare at each other for several tense seconds before Batman leans back.
[…Let's hope you're right. I'll meet with Blood later today. Batman out.]
With that, the call ends, and Robin hangs his head in exhaustion.
'This whole thing's a mess,' Robin laments internally. 'Malchior's hurting Raven, Hydra's seducing Raven, Raven's losing faith in us, and Batman's definitely planning on intervening. I have to get this sorted out fast. First thing's first, though; I still need to make the lesson plan for Raven.'
Location: Combat Simulation Room, Hive Academy
Timeskip: 11:00 a.m.
The hexagonal pillar raises Hydra into the room. The villain scans the long corridor that makes up the obstacle course, already anticipating the multitude of traps and opponents prepared for him.
'Should we go for the speed record again, or should we show off?' Hydra asks in his head while adjusting his cap.
Kurama scoffs. "As if you can't do both."
Hydra grins as the buzzer goes off, signaling the start of the demonstration.
Hydra immediately sprints down the corridor and starts flashing through handsigns. Several turrets pop out of the walls and start shooting at the villain, who easily moves to avoid each blast.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"
Hydra cups his mouth and spits out several small fireballs, each one flying towards a turret. The Shinobian zooms past all of the turrets that explode behind him. He then jumps onto a pedestal, activating the four giant clawed robots that emerge from the surrounding walls and approach him.
Hydra is unfazed as he weaves through more handsigns. "Crystal Style: Crystal Prison!"
Before the robots can get close, all four of them are suddenly encased in orange sapphire pillars. With a snap of Hydra's fingers, the pillars instantly shatter, along with the robots inside them.
With another obstacle completed, Hydra advances forward and immediately spots three large cannons popping out of the floor.
More handsigns. "Fire Style: Triple Fire Skulls!"
Three screaming skull fireballs fly out of Hydra's hands and each shoot straight into a cannon barrel. Hydra doesn't bother regarding the exploding cannons as another robot appears from behind and tries grabbing him.
Only for him to vanish in a blink.
"Wind Style: Rasengan!"
The spiraling yellow ball of chakra pierces the back of the robot's head before grinding inside the machine and tearing its mechanical innards apart. The robot is already scrap in seconds as Hydra leaps forward and continues down the corridor.
Hydra sees the narrow section of corridor ahead of him that's lined the entire length with more turrets. Thinking quickly, the Shinobian blurs through more handsigns.
"Crystal Style: Wild Dance of Shuriken!"
A multitude of orange crystal shuriken materializes out of thin air and swirls around Hydra's body protectively. As he enters the next obstacle, all of the nearby turrets aim right at him and prepare to fire. They don't get the chance, however, as Hydra throws his arm forward, commanding the shuriken to fly at the turrets and slice right through them. The villain keeps his arm extended as he runs through the narrow path, the shuriken surrounding him quickly shredding through all of the turrets in his way.
With not a single scratch on him, Hydra exits the narrow portion and spots the final obstacles between him and the finish line: four giant Mod-Bots repurposed by Gizmo.
As the robots charge at him, Hydra smirks and claps his hands together. "Foxfire!"
Ethereal blue fire erupts from Hydra's body and coalesces into a giant fiery python. The flaming snake hisses at the robots before winding its way through the air and wrapping around all for of the machines. Hydra runs past and gives a wave to the robots that are being squeezed and superheated by the constrictor. It's only when the villain crosses the finish line and sounds the buzzer that the snake disperses, making the robots collapse in a pile of scrap and slag.
The door past the finish line opens, revealing a proudly smiling Brother Blood.
"Another new course record, and a spectacular show mixed in! Well done, my boy!" Blood praises.
"You think the audience enjoyed our little performance?" Hydra asks.
"Oh, I'm sure of it! I suspect they'll be chomping at the bit to have you!" Blood answers eagerly as he puts his hand on Hydra's shoulder and leads him out of the room.
A bit of walking later, the two of them enter a special viewing room above the simulation chamber.
"Well, gentlemen? What do you think?" Brother Blood asks the people on the multiple screens surrounding the room.
Hydra takes a moment to analyze his audience.
The one on the far left is an older bearded gentleman with green eyes, grey streaks in his black hair, a long mustache, and wild eyebrows. He wears a regal high-collared green cloak over a black vest and a white undershirt. Hydra instantly recognizes him as Ra's al Ghul, Cheshire's true master.
On the next screen is a man with short black hair, a thick horseshoe mustache, and multiple dueling scars on his stocky face. The man wears a brown Italian suit typical of the American mob. This is Bruno "Ugly" Manheim, the boss of the international crime organization Intergang.
The third man has a black buzzcut with a thick black beard. He wears a black and red Gi and a metal bandolier. His exposed shoulders sport intricate black tattoos of Chinese dragons. The most prominent feature is the metal prosthetic lens where his right eye should be. This is the infamous arms dealer Kano, head of the Black Dragon syndicate.
The intelligent-looking gorilla next to Kano is easily identifiable as Grodd, leader of the Secret Society of Supervillains.
Even more out of place than the ape is the disembodied brain floating in a jar with a menacing skull design on the front. Aptly called The Brain, it is the head of the Brotherhood of Evil.
On the sixth screen is a man whose features are hidden underneath his metallic samurai armor with numerous blades covering it, including two large claws popping out of his left hand. This is The Shredder, head of the Foot Clan.
The seventh bidder is a man wearing a black military uniform. He has dark eyes, short black hair and a neat extended goatee, giving him a distinguished look that contrasts with his brutish facial features. Hydra knows him as another one of the Top Five Villains, the immortal Vandal Savage.
The eighth screen is dark.
Ra's speaks first. [The reports from my disciple, Cheshire, don't do your abilities justice, young one. Your ability to bend the elements is especially impressive.]
The Shredder notes, [It's oddly similar to the techniques used by some of the ancient ninja clans, my Foot Clan included.]
[I once witnessed a battle between the Lin Kuei and the Shirai Ryu clans many decades ago,] Vandal recalls, [yet all of the destruction during that clash would pale in comparison to what I've witnessed.]
[I'll say,] Kano says with sinister eagerness. [I'd love to see him against some tanks!]
[I am more impressed by his quick thinking and battle strategy,] The Brain comments. [My associate, General Immortus, would be eager to have you as his student.]
Manheim speaks up, [Yeah, he's great at wrecking the place. What about the sneaky stuff, though? Some problems need a little more subtlety to solve, after all.]
Hydra smirks before making a handsign. "Transform."
In a puff of smoke, Hydra's form is replaced with a perfect copy of Bruno Manheim, surprising the real gangster.
"Well, we reckon we can be stealthy when we need to be," Hydra says using Manheim's voice.
The real Manheim frowns. [Well, aren't you cute?]
"One of us has to be," the fake Manheim quips before turning back into Hydra.
Kano laughs at this, drawing Manheim's ire.
[The hell are you laughing at?] Manheim questions his fellow crime lord. [You looked in the mirror lately?]
[Every day of my fucking life, and I'm always happy with the gorgeous beauty who looks back at me,] Kano answers proudly. [Can you say the same?]
Gorilla Grodd sighs tiredly. [Vain humans. I think we can all agree that Hydra's power and ingenuity are both exceptional. The real question is which of us can utilize him to his fullest potential.]
Kano glares at the ape's screen. [What are you saying? The little bloke's too good for some of us?]
[By some, do you mean those of us who waste time and resources on petty crimes? Absolutely,] Vandal answers.
Manheim scowls. [Petty?! Intergang is the biggest crime organization on the planet! We make La Cosa Nostra look like pickpockets!]
[Oh really? And who are the ones who you buy all of your weaponry from to make you so big?] Kano questions. [That's right. The Black Dragon!]
[And yet, my organization can slay both of yours in a single day,] The Shredder boasts. [The Foot Clan comprises of the best assassins in the world.]
[Debatable,] Ra's says, making the armored samurai glare at him.
[Such endeavors are inconsequential compared to the complete domination of the human race,] The Brain declares. [The young man before us is capable of destroying armies and turning cities into craters, while also being able to assassinate, replace, and impersonate even the President of the United States. It is the equivalent of the world's greatest spy holding a nuclear arsenal.]
[Which means that whoever controls him has the key to Planet Earth in their pocket,] Grodd says.
[Hydra needs someone with grander ambitions to guide him,] Vandal states.
Manheim smirks. [Well, at least we 'petty criminals' are practical, and we get steady results. What have you three's 'grander ambitions' gotten yous guys?] he asks, focusing on Vandal. [Last I checked, you not only lost World War 2 even with futuristic weapons, you got squashed by your own doomsday satellite.]
Kano looks at The Brain. [As for you, you floating pickle, I can't remember the last time the Brotherhood of Evil accomplished anything since the Eighties. Honestly, I thought you all bit the dust years ago.]
The Shredder tilts his head towards Grodd. [I seem to recall your Master Plan to turn all humans into apes ended in disaster for your forces. So much for your greater intelligence, though what can you expect from an animal.]
Grodd frowns at the jab before smirking. [I'd have thought you of all people would have more respect for your fellow members of the Animal Kingdom, considering the fact that you're constantly being stymied by four turtles who live in the sewers with their rat.]
Ra's smirks. [The best assassins in the world indeed.]
The Shredder growls in his mask.
Kano laughs uproariously. [Hahaha! So much for the badass samurai act, ya fuckin' cunt!]
The Shredder brandishes his claws towards Kano. [How I wish we were here in person, you filthy wretch.]
Kano grins dangerously as his robotic eye glows brighter. [The feeling's mutual, mate.]
Hydra watches the squabble unfold with a bored expression.
"By the Sage, the ego in this room," Kurama complains.
'And they're not even in the room,' Hydra adds in annoyance.
Even Brother Blood is sick of it.
"Gentlemen! Gentlemen, please!" Brother Blood pleads with a rigid smile, making the audience quiet down. "There's no need to bicker and argue over who's more worthy of my student, especially not when you can make your checkbooks do the talking for you. On that note, let's start the bidding, shall we? I believe a good number to start would be–"
All seven screens suddenly turn to static, startling the people physically in the room.
Brother Blood is especially distraught. "What?! What's happening?!"
A priest on a nearby computer reports, "Brother, our communications are getting scrambled by an outside source. I'm working to restore the connections right now."
"Save your energy."
Everyone turns towards the source of the new voice, who is now entering the room. He's a bald man wearing a black business suit with a grey blazer, a white undershirt, and a white tie. Behind him is a blond-haired woman wearing a chauffer's uniform holding a futuristic pistol.
"The screens won't come back on until I decide it," the man declares with a confident smile.
The priests look at the newcomers warily, while Hydra has a curious expression, having identified the man instantly as a billionaire philanthropist from Metropolis – at least that's what he's officially known for.
Brother Blood, however, is elated. "Lex Luthor in the flesh!" he exclaims in delight as he approaches the man with a raised hand. "I was wondering why you didn't appear on the Zoom call for the auction."
Lex Luthor accepts the handshake. "I could easily outbid my 'colleagues' and still have a fortune to spare, so I figured I'd come in person to claim my prize. Speaking of which…"
The billionaire approaches Hydra and offers his hand.
"Hydra of the planet Shinobu, is that right? I usually don't work with extra-terrestrials, but you seem to be less idealistic and foolish than some aliens I know," Luthor states with a hint of disdain at the end.
The Shinobian smiles and returns the handshake. "We're glad to make a good first impression, Mr. Luthor."
"Indeed, and good on you for getting my name right the first time. You'll need to get used to calling me that from now on," Luthor states.
The billionaire then circles Hydra, giving the teen an appraising look. Hydra keeps smiling, though he feels like a piece of meat being stared at.
"I've been following your career from the very beginning, Hydra, and you've exceeded many of my expectations," Luthor praises. "Can you guess which ability of yours I'm most impressed by?"
"We suppose either our shapeshifting or our ability to destroy electronics using our Lightning Jutsu," Hydra guesses.
"Not quite, though they're both incredibly useful, especially in this modern age. What really fascinates me, however, is your ability to manipulate crystals, especially for traps and weapons. I'm assuming that you need to spend some time analyzing a certain crystalline structure in order to properly create and utilize it," Luthor says as he pulls a small lead box out of his jacket pocket. "Tell me, Hydra, what do you make of this?"
The billionaire opens the box, revealing an infamous green glowing space crystal.
Kryptonite.
Hydra takes off one of his gloves and plucks the stone out of the box with his bare hand. He closes his eyes as his hand clenches around the rock.
A woman's voice fills his mind.
'Let your chakra surround and penetrate the crystal. Let the crystal resonate with your chakra. Listen to its story. Feel its energy. Only by bonding with it can you use its power.'
While following the instructions, Hydra smiles as a blue-haired woman's face enters his mind. 'Big sister Guren.'
After a few moments, Hydra opens his eyes and places the Kryptonite back into the box.
He then clenches his ungloved hand. "Crystal Armor."
In seconds, Hydra's right fist is coated with solid Kryptonite. Brother Blood, his priests, and the chauffeur are amazed as they're basked in the green glow.
Lex Luthor, meanwhile, smiles wickedly.
Just as soon as the Kryptonite is formed, it disperses.
"We think you're right to keep that in the lead container, Mr. Luthor," Hydra states. "The energy that Kryptonite produces is toxic, to say the least. Even with our fortitude, we can only wield it as armor for a little while."
Luthor clasps Hydra's shoulder. "Not to worry, young man. When the time is right, a little while is all you'll need," Luthor says ominously.
"This guy doesn't have an ounce of chakra in him, yet he's making me shiver," Kurama comments warily.
Luthor turns his attention to Brother Blood. "Now then, about your school. I'd like to learn more about this potential investment of mine."
Dollar signs appear in Brother Blood's eyes.
"But of course! Let me personally give you a tour!" Blood says excitedly as he leads Luthor out of the room, with Hydra and the chauffeur following close behind.
As Blood talks Luthor's ear off, Hydra turns to the woman with a friendly smile. "We never got your name."
The blonde looks the white-haired boy up and down. "Mercy. Mercy Graves."
"A pleasure to meet you, Mercy," Hydra greets. He then looks ahead at the bald billionaire. "…Is he good to work for?"
"He'll make you a millionaire in half a year," Mercy states, "and that's not including medical and dental. He's a little stingy on vacation time, but other than that…"
Hydra sweatdrops. "Not quite what we were wondering."
Mercy sighs. "I know. Look, kid, as long as you're not useless and you don't try stabbing him in the back, he'll take care of you. What more could you want?"
Hydra doesn't answer back, though the image of a violet-haired girl does come to mind.
Location: Headmaster's Office, Hive Academy
Timeskip: 4:00 p.m.
Hydra enters the office, having been summoned by the headmaster. After the demonstration, Brother Blood had sent Hydra off to lunch while the former continued negotiations with Lex Luthor. After the Shinobian washed up and ate his meal, he spent some time in his room finishing up a personal project of his before was told by Sheila to report to the headmaster.
And thus, Hydra is now here watching Blood hum away happily while typing on his computer.
"We take it negotiations went well?" Hydra asks.
"Better than I could have hoped!" Blood answers cheerfully. "Not only is Mr. Luthor going to pay a fortune for your employment, but he's also going to be fully financing the school for another five years!"
Hydra looks thoughtful. "So, how does that work with your plan?"
"Not to worry, my boy. You'll still be around to help take over Jump City. Afterwards, you'll be under Luthor's command unless I call upon you to defend my new kingdom," Blood explains. "As you're working with Luthor, however, you'll be reporting to me about everything you learn and witness. When the opportunity arises, we'll find a way to bring the great Lex Luthor under my control."
"So, it's all settled and done with?" Hydra asks, hiding his wariness.
"All except for one little matter to take care of," Blood answers. "It's a special request from Luthor. A final exam, if you will."
Hydra sighs internally. "We're ready for your instructions, Brother."
"Your mission is to infiltrate the S.T.A.R. Labs facility and download their top-secret data," Blood instructs as he holds up a flash drive. "Luthor's already provided the layout of the facility itself. The rest is up to you."
Hydra accepts the flash drive. "When do we start?"
"This evening," Blood answers. "Be back by dinner so you can get some proper rest afterwards."
"Because tomorrow is our takeover of the city, right?"
"Indeed," Brother Blood confirms before chuckling sinisterly and spinning away in his chair. "Think of it, my boy! An entire city under our control and we'll be partners with Lex Luthor himself! We're making the big leagues, Hydra! You should be proud of yourself, my dear student!"
Hydra smiles at the headmaster, though it doesn't reach his eyes. "Of course, Headmaster."
Location: Kitchen, Blood Residence, Outskirts of Gotham City
Timeskip: 10:00 p.m. EST
A teapot whines in a dimly lit kitchen, getting the attention of the "sole" resident of the humble home. The man has an aristocratic face and a white streak across his blood-red hair. He wears a brown suit over a black shirt and grey pants. This is Jason Blood, a warlock and demonologist who roamed the Earth for around twenty lifetimes.
A feat made possible thanks to his "roommate".
For now, the man is planning on spending another peaceful day indoors as he reaches into a cabinet for a teacup.
Only to hear some ruckus outside his home.
Jason sighs tiredly. 'Two teacups, then.'
Location: Den, Blood Residence, Outskirts of Gotham City
After pouring the tea and cutting up some lemon slices, Jason Blood enters his personal den, which is filled with bookshelves and decorated with grotesque statues. He sets the teacups down and takes a seat in one of his chairs.
Just in time to see Batman's body crash through the other entryway and tumble into the room.
Jason makes no move to help the battered Dark Knight as the latter gets back onto his feet and readies himself to face off the horned, red-skinned demon that walks into the den. The demon roars and charges at the hero, who responds by pulling out a canister and spraying the demon's incoming face with pressurized water.
It takes seconds for the demon's skin to start melting off of its skull, making the creature scream and clutch its head. This gives Batman plenty of time to slip some metal knuckles onto his fingers.
After a moment, the demon releases its face, revealing a partly exposed monstrous skull with one unmelted eye looking at its opponent with agony and hatred.
POW!
Only for that eye to be punched out of its socket with a metal-enhanced fist that cracks bone.
That's the final blow for the demon as its body erupts into fire and burns away before it can hit the floor, leaving behind a scorch mark on the rug below.
Batman takes a few moments to catch his breath before he glances over to Jason Blood, who still has an impassive expression as he sips some tea.
"Pressurized holy water. An interesting new gadget. And I see you still favor the Nth Metal Knuckles," Jason notes before gesturing to the other cup. "Earl Grey with lemon."
Batman walks over to his associate, removing his knuckles, and takes a seat in the other chair.
"It took me thirty minutes to maneuver past your defenses. Even then, I couldn't avoid them all," Batman states as he takes his cup and adds the lemon juice. "Nice work."
"Yes, and it only took me three hours to install all of the magical glyphs around my estate, plus another two to trap that demon," Jason says dryly.
"Sorry about the carpet," Batman apologizes before taking a sip of his tea.
Jason sighs. "I suppose it's better to have you test my traps than someone more nefarious."
"How are things lately?" Batman asks. "How's your roommate?"
"Sated. For now," Jason replies. "Capturing that demon helped curb some of his bloodlust."
"You trust him to behave himself for the immediate future?" Batman questions.
"Batman, I've lived with Etrigan long enough to learn his little nuances and manage his demonic tendencies," Jason says while sipping his tea, "just as I've known you long enough to know that you aren't one for social visits. So, what sort of supernatural situation do you need my assistance with?"
"There's trouble brewing with Robin's team, the Teen Titans," Batman explains. "One Titan in particular."
"Raven," Jason deduces. "Is she embracing her demonic heritage?"
"Not from how Robin described, but she seems to be coming undone emotionally," Batman describes. "Her relationship with the team is in tatters, she's stuck in a toxic relationship with her boyfriend, and a new villain named Hydra is trying to seduce her and steal her away."
Jason looks contemplative. "Hydra. I've looked into his exploits a bit after I felt that massive burst of magic last Fourth of July. To think that a magic caster that powerful is on the side of evil…do you need my assistance with dealing with him?"
"Your assistance would be appreciated, but Hydra's not the immediate concern," Batman answers. "It's Raven's boyfriend. He needs to go."
Jason chuckles. "Batman, I'm not exactly a go-to individual for relationship advice. Honestly, it's been a century since I even considered romance," he says before going for another sip of tea.
"I need background information on the boyfriend himself," Batman clarifies. "What do you know of the wizard Malchior of Nol who fought against the Dread Dragon Rorek?"
Jason suddenly stills mid-sip. Batman notes how the warlock's hand shakes a bit and his eyes have lost all mirth.
Jason gently sets the teacup down. "…Malchior of Nol…and the Dread Dragon Rorek…,"
Batman feels uneasy. "I take it you know of them."
Jason takes a deep breath before standing up and heading for a nearby bookshelf.
"What do you know about dragons and their history with humanity?" Jason asks as he searches his shelf.
"Not much, but I know they've popped up in nearly every culture that's existed," Batman answers. "They come in all shapes and sizes. Some work to help the people, while others strive to end mankind."
"The former belong to the Harmony Faction, who want peaceful coexistence with mankind and the gods. In contrast, the latter group wants to destroy both men and gods, thus taking domain over Earth. They are the Chaos Faction," Jason explains as he pulls out a tome and looks through it. "During the 11th Century, I assisted the great wizard Merlin in creating an elite squad of dragon slayers to combat the Chaos Dragons that were running rampant across Europe, West Asia, and Africa. The legendary knight, Saint George, was a member of this squad."
"So, Malchior was also a member?" Batman guesses.
Jason turns and approaches Batman with a grave expression, book in hand.
"No, he was not," Jason answers ominously as he presents the open book to the hero.
Batman accepts the tome and reads the exposed page. What he reads makes his eyes widen under his mask.
"If what you're insinuating about Raven's boyfriend is true, then you're right to call him the immediate concern," Jason says.
Batman stands and sets the book down. "I'm gonna need a bigger pair of Nth Metal Knuckles."
"You'll need more than that, my friend," Jason states as he backs away to stand on the already burnt carpet.
Batman takes a step back himself, already knowing what's – or rather, who's coming.
"Change, change o' form of man. Free the prince forever damned," Jason chants as his form is covered in fire. "Free the might from fleshy mire! Boil the blood in the heart of fire! Gone, gone the form of man! Arise, the demon Etrigan!"
Batman watches the grotesque shifting from man to beast under the flames. The flames eventually disperse, revealing a horned, yellow-skinned demon with glowing red eyes and webbed ears. The demon wears a red outfit with a black tattered cape and a demonic symbol on his belt. This is Etrigan, son of Belial, and an Overlord of Hell.
The demon chuckles sinisterly while giving Batman an eager look.
"Come, Dark Knight. Let's make haste," Etrigan says. "There's a dragon to slay and no time to waste."
Location: Raven's Room, Titans Tower
Time: 7:00 p.m. PST
Raven sighs as she stands in front of her door and stretches her body out. She's just come back from self-defense lessons with Robin and she's ready for a shower.
'Robin's a menace as a teacher, but I feel like I can learn a lot from him,' Raven thinks. 'In hindsight, I probably should have done it sooner.'
Shelving the thought for now, Raven walks through the doorway…only to immediately have to create a magic shield to block the incoming lightning attack. She looks past her smoking barrier to see Malchior glaring daggers at her, his fingers smoking.
"You want to explain what that was?" Raven questions with narrowed eyes.
"Like I said before, my sweet Raven, I mean to resume your magical training, and training starts now!" Malchior declares as he fires off another lightning blast.
Raven conjures a bigger barrier, blocking the numerous lightning bolts sent her way. She then creates a plasma bolt between her hands and launches it. The ball of energy shoots through a hole in her barrier and flies at Malchior, who twists his body to avoid the attack.
This angers Malchior further. "NO! You don't attack me! I am the attacker! Not you!"
"In a magical duel, both duelists fight each other. That's how it works," Raven points out as she creates green fire in her hands.
"You do not dictate how anything works! I do!" Malchior shouts as he conjures his own fire.
Both spellcasters shoot their flames at each other, making a deadlock between them.
"Maybe I'm tired of you dictating everything, Malchior," Raven grunts as she pushes her magic forward.
"Your rebelliousness will not stand, girl!" Malchior proclaims as he pushes back.
The spellcasters walk closer to each other as they continue throwing flames at each other.
"I took a class with Robin, and you say I'm rebellious?!" Raven asks incredulously.
"I take a little beating from Hydra, and you have the nerve to defy me at every turn?!" Malchior argues back. "I don't think so!"
Eventually, both torrents of flame disperse, and Raven takes a moment to catch her breath before a fist suddenly heads for her face. Immediately remembering Robin's lesson earlier, Raven quickly catches the fist, twists her body, and throws the surprised Malchior over her shoulder. The false wizard flies across the room and crashes into Raven's desk.
"You're the one who has the fucking nerve!" Raven yells at Malchior, who gets back on his feet. "Hitting me for the smallest and stupidest reasons! Yelling at me! Berating me! You're supposed to be my boyfriend, you piece of shit!"
"SILENCE!" Malchior shouts in rage as books and debris start floating all around him.
Thinking quickly, Raven forms a dome of black magic to protect herself from the incoming projectiles.
"I will not tolerate your insults and defiance anymore!" Malchior declares as he continues flinging things at the girl. "You will obey all of my commands! When I teach you, you will listen quietly! When I hit you, you will smile and bear it! That is how this works, because I am the master, and you are my…servant?"
The false wizard trails off as he sees Raven glare at him with red glowing eyes while her magic builds up.
"Azarath…," Raven growls, "Metrion…"
Malchior blanches. "Oh, bollocks."
"ZINTHOS!"
Location: Living Room, Titans Tower
KABOOM!
The rest of the Titans are hanging out in the living room when they and everything else in the room are shaken by the force of the nearby explosion.
"What the hell was that?!" Cyborg asks.
"Trouble!" Starfire answers.
"That came from Raven's room!" Beast Boy cries out.
"TITANS! GO!" Robin calls out as he and the other Titans rush to help their friend.
Location: Tech Sector, Jump City
The pulse of chakra is detected by Hydra, who pauses his rooftop leaping. He looks over to where he felt the pulse come from and sees Titans Tower directly in his sights.
'Raven. Something's happening to her,' Hydra thinks, his mind panicking.
The villain looks down at his right hand, where the flash drive that's crucial to his mission is resting.
In less than a second, the drive is crushed into scrap.
"And so, it begins," Kurama says mirthfully.
Hydra allows the metal shards to pierce his skin and draw blood. He then lets the blood drip onto his Summoning tattoo.
'I hope the big guy doesn't have an attitude right now,' Hydra prays as he slams his right hand onto the roof. "Summoning Jutsu!"
Location: Raven's Room, Titans Tower
The other Titans swiftly arrive at Raven's Room and are immediately startled by the state of it. It certainly looks like someone set off a bomb, what with the wrecked furniture and all of the books and curios scattered about. It's Malchior, however, who's taken the brunt of the blasted, as his singed form is embedded in the far wall.
At the epicenter of the explosion is Raven, who's haggardly huffing while clenching her fists in rage.
Beast Boy speaks up, "So, uh, what just happened?"
"A breakup," Raven answers shortly before glaring at her ex. "Pack your things and leave. We're through."
The other Titans smile ecstatically, happy that Raven has stood up for herself and Malchior will finally leave the tower.
"…Hehehehehe…"
The raspy chuckle draws everyone's attention to the one pulling himself out of the wall with a shaky smile of his own.
"It's too soon…much too soon," Malchior mutters as he sways on his feet. "…and yet, I feel…so relieved…"
Red reptilian eyes stare manically at the startled heroes.
"Relieved to finally put an end to this farce," Malchior finishes with an animalistic growl at the end.
A magical circle forms in front of Malchior, and the Teen Titans look on in horror as Malchior's body starts to grow in size, while black scales cover his skin, and fangs appear in his mouth.
"Raven, is this some sort of wizard spell?" Starfire asks warily as she and the others see horns and wings appear.
It doesn't take long for Raven to realize the deception, though she kicks herself for not seeing it before.
"You changed the story," Raven mutters in a dreadful tone. "Malchior wasn't the wizard. He was the–"
"Dragon," the beast confirms as he finishes his transformation.
The Dread Dragon Malchior roars as he presents his true form, that of a black European dragon with a purple underbelly, glowing red eyes, a long whip-like tail, and two straight horns growing out of its skull.
The beast then unleashes a breath of fire at the heroes, but Raven blocks the attack with a magic shield. This is a distraction, however, as the dragon bursts through the ceiling of Raven's Room to escape the tower.
As the dust settles, Raven disperses her shield. She then looks down with a betrayed expression.
"He lied to me," the sorceress mutters. "He lied to me all this time just so I could give him what he wanted."
"We have to stop him! Quick!" Robin yells as he and the other Titans rush to the open hole.
Beast Boy stops, however, and looks back at his remaining comrade. "Raven! Are you–"
"Please," Raven interrupts somberly, "just get out of my room."
Quickly getting the hint, Beast Boy morphs into a hawk and flies out through the hole, leaving Raven alone in the ruins of her last sanctuary.
Location: Roof, Titans Tower
In the light of the setting sun, Malchior bursts out of the top of the tower and lets out a fiery roar, relieved to finally be free of this retched hovel.
'I'm not free yet,' Malchior reminds himself. 'I need to escape and get far away from here. I still need to regain the strength I had back at my height. Once that's done, I can return and exact my vengeance on Hydra, the Titans, and my sweet Raven, of course!'
A blast from a sonic cannon interrupts the dragon's thoughts. He looks over and sees Starfire flying towards him while carrying Cyborg and Robin. Starfire tosses Cyborg, who fires his sonic blasts at the dragon while falling towards the beast. Malchior tanks the blasts with his arms before whipping Cyborg with his tail, batting the mechanical teen away.
Starfire then tosses Robin, who combines two of his Birdarangs to form a sword. The Boy Wonder slashes Malchior's face with the sword, but the tough black scales protect the beast. Robin throws some bombs, which explode harmlessly on the dragon's body, before said dragon backhands Robin into some air conditioners.
Starfire starts pelting Malchior with starbolts, which do little damage to the dragon's hide. The alien girl continues throwing bolt after bolt at the beast while avoiding the incoming fire breath.
This gives Beast Boy an opening to turn into a T-Rex and chomp onto Malchior's elongated neck. Malchior struggles in the dinosaur's hold before grabbing the green beast and tossing him onto the roof. Malchior then throws the T-Rex towards a recovering Cyborg, sending both heroes falling off the tower.
The last remaining Titan Starfire goes for another strafing run, but Malchior catches the girl in his jaws. Starfire pushes up against the dragon's jaws to free herself, only to be hit point-blank by a burst of fire that sends her crashing into the ocean below.
Malchior takes a moment to relish in his victory, only to be hit from behind by a massive black bolt of lightning. He shakes off the attack and looks down to see Raven emerging from a portal.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" Raven yells before blasting Malchior again with black lightning.
The powerful hit sends Malchior stumbling back, but he recovers and breathes fire at the girl. Raven flies and avoids the flames before hitting the dragon with another burst of lightning, which Malchior blocks with his wing. Raven then conjures a green fireball and hits Malchior in his face with it, making Malchior wince at the slight singe it leaves. Raven then gathers storm clouds above her head before unleashing a massive bolt of lightning on the dragon, who writhes in pain from the surprisingly powerful attack.
Tired of being on the defensive, Malchior breathes a strong breath of fire at Raven, who creates a magical shield to protect herself. Malchior continues his fiery attack, making Raven grunt as she works to keep her shield up. Eventually, both sides cease their magic, and Raven tries to catch her breath, only for Malchior to fly up and grab for her.
Thinking quickly, Raven falls back into a portal to avoid the grab.
Malchior looks around for his opponent.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"
Only to get hit from between his wings by two massive fists of black magic, sending the beast crashing down onto the island below.
Back at ground level, the remaining Titans regroup at the shores of the island and watch as Malchior crashes down right in front of them. Before they can run back into the fight, a red magical circle nearby catches their attention. Fire erupts from the circle before dissipating, revealing two figures very familiar to Robin.
"Batman? Etrigan?" Robin calls out, surprising his comrades.
"We meet again, Boy of Wonder," Etrigan greets with a smile as he and Batman join the group. "You may now revel at my splendor."
Robin turns to his mentor. "Batman, how–"
"We'll talk later," Batman interjects as he and the other heroes focus on the fight.
Nearby, Raven floats over to Malchior, who gets back on his feet and glares at the sorceress.
"You cursed brat! You think you can defeat me! I taught you everything you know, my sweet Raven!" Malchior taunts. "It was my power that brought you here! Without me, you would be nothing but a lonely sad pathetic little girl!"
"We beg to differ."
Malchior whips his head to face the familiar voice.
Slash! "GAAAH!"
Only to have his right eye sliced through by a wind-enhanced blade.
As Malchior clutches his face in agony, Hydra lands next to a surprised Raven with a cheerful smile and his sword in hand.
"Did you miss us?" Hydra asks.
Raven shakes off her surprise and smiles back. "More than you know," she replies, making Hydra's eyes widen.
Nearby, the other heroes are startled by the newcomer.
"Is that him?" Batman asks.
Robin nods. "Hydra."
Beast Boy groans. "Dude! We so do not need this right now!"
Etrigan gives Hydra an appraising look. "So that's the warlock of which Jason spoke. He certainly feels like a powerful bloke."
Cyborg looks annoyed at the demon. "Is the rhyming really necessary?"
Malchior shrugs off the pain from his bleeding eyehole and glares at the two magical teens.
"Hydra! Of course, you're here now!" Malchior complains.
Hydra scans the dragon up and down. "You're Malchior? That explains a lot."
"You little pest! You'll pay for this injury!" Malchior declares as he prepares another fire breath.
"One moment," Hydra interjects with a friendly smile. "You might want to look behind you, first."
"You really think I'd fall for that?!" Malchior questions incredulously.
Only for a large shadow to cover his form.
Malchior, the Teen Titans, Batman, and Etrigan all slowly look up at the source of the shadow.
It's a colossal purple serpent that easily dwarfs any of Hydra's other summons. The snake has four horns growing out the back of his head, black rings going down his body…and a very hungry look on his face.
Malchior pales. "…Oh, what the fu–"
WHOMP!
The snake's massive tail suddenly slams on top of Malchior, crushing the dragon into the ground. When the snake lifts his tail, Malchior is stuck in a dragon-shaped hole in the ground.
Cyborg smiles sarcastically. "Well, of course, Hydra has a bigger snake. He always has a bigger snake, doesn't he?!"
{You should have told me you had a sizable morsel for me, Summoner,} the snake speaks. {I'm much more eager to fight now.}
{Glad to hear it, Manda,} Hydra responds.
Malchior quickly bursts out of the hole. "Enough! I will incinerate you and your pet, Hydra!"
Hydra smirks and looks up at the snake. {Hey, Manda! That guy just called you a pet!}
{WHAT?! How dare you, you little gecko! I am Manda the Strongest Colossal Serpent, and I will crush you like a cubed steak!} Manda declares before charging at the dragon.
Malchior breathes fire at the incoming snake, who easily avoids the attack as he brings his fangs to bear. Malchior dodges the bite, though he's smacked away by Manda's tail, making the dragon crash into the tower.
Nearby, Hydra watches the battle with Raven by his side.
"We're glad Manda's having fun this time. Usually, he's a grumpy old snake," Hydra comments before turning towards Raven.
Only to suddenly find his lips caught by Raven's in a searing kiss.
Despite his surprise, Hydra wastes no time in returning the kiss while hugging the girl's body close to his. The possessive grab makes Raven gasp, allowing Hydra's tongue to enter her mouth. Getting even more passionate, Raven throws her arms around the boy's body as she duels Hydra's tongue with her own. This encourages Hydra to plunder Raven's mouth while grabbing her shapely rear, making the girl squeal in delight.
It's this scene that distracts the other heroes from the nearby monster fight.
"Oh damn," Cyborg mutters in surprise.
Starfire gives an impressive impression of The Scream.
Beast Boy feels his whole world being crushed. "Raven…"
Batman and Robin share a look.
Etrigan chuckles. "A spot of drama amidst the fight? The plot thickens within my sight."
After several moments, Raven and Hydra separate, the two of them panting as they stare into each other's eyes.
"…I'm yours, Hydra," Raven declares, shocking the villain, "and this time, I mean it."
Internally, Hydra is dancing victoriously with a huge grin while several duplicates throw confetti around him. Externally, Hydra's smile is much calmer as he cups Raven's cheek with his free hand.
"Our greatest treasure," Hydra says, getting a smile of happiness and relief from Raven.
A monstrous shout of pain draws everyone's attention to Malchior, who's pelting Manda's form with magical lightning.
"Let's take care of your ex first, shall we?" Hydra suggests as he separates from Raven and moves to fight Malchior.
Raven suddenly grabs Hydra's hand, making the latter stop and look back.
"Whatever happens, I decide Malchior's fate," Raven declares.
Hydra nods. "Agreed."
With that, the two chakra-wielders move to help Manda, who's very annoyed by the flying gecko pelting him with lightning.
{Stop flying around and get in my belly, you reptilian gnat!} Manda yells.
"I'll be the one making a buffet out of you!" Malchior retorts.
"Almighty Push!"
An invisible force suddenly crashes into Malchior from above, sending the dragon falling down to the ground, where Raven is waiting for him.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" Raven chants, creating a massive spike from the ground below that Malchior slams right into.
"GAAGH!" Malchior cries out from the painful impalement before being smacked away once again by Manda's tail.
As Malchior tumbles across the earth, Hydra is waiting for him with a giant ball of chakra.
"Wind Style: Big Ball Rasengan!"
Hydra slams the sphere into Malchior's face, grinding away the dragon's facial scales and tearing up the beast's flesh. Malchior is knocked backwards and onto the ground with a fresh wound on his head. The dragon gets back onto his feet and tries to fly up, only to find his limbs chained up by Raven's black magic.
This leaves Malchior exposed to Hydra's next attack. "Crystal Style: Burst Crystal Falling Dragon!"
An Asian dragon made of red diamond forms from underneath Malchior's body and bites into his neck. Malchior's struggles renew as the diamond construct wraps itself around Malchior's body and squeezes the life out of him.
Manda chuckles darkly. {It's dinnertime,} he says as he goes to devour the living dragon.
This is when Malchior truly starts to panic.
'This can't be happening! I can't die! I can't!' Malchior screams internally as he starts building magic up in his body.
Raven and Hydra both feel the buildup and regroup together, with the former putting up a sturdy shield.
"ROOOOARGH!" Malchior roars as his magic bursts out of his form, shattering the crystal and chains binding him, while also knocking Manda backwards. Exhausted, yet free, Malchior sets his sights on the chakra-wielders before him.
Nearby, the other heroes continue watching the fight.
Beast Boy groans in frustration. "Dude, I wanna cheer for our side, but…Hydra…"
Cyborg places a hand on the changeling's shoulder. "I know, man."
"Should we not assist Raven?" Starfire asks.
"None of our attacks made a scratch on Malchior," Robin says. "Unless Batman brought an anti-dragon device…"
"Not this time," Batman answers.
"…Then we're useless in this fight," Robin concludes sadly.
"I'm sorry, but who exactly is we?" Etrigan asks. "A Prince of Hell is not included with thee."
Etrigan holds out his closed fists and spits hellfire into them. Separating his hands, a demonic sword materializes in his grip. With a mad cackle, the demon leaps into the fray.
Meanwhile, Raven and Hydra brace themselves for the charging dragon.
"I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOULS!" Malchior roars as he leaps forward to trample his opponents.
"HRAARGH!" POW!
Only to be knocked away by a hellish blade.
Hydra, Raven, and a recovering Manda are surprised by the newest entry.
"Is that…a demon?" Hydra asks.
"It is," Raven confirms. "It's Lord Etrigan."
{Can I eat him too?} Manda wonders.
Malchior shakes off the hit and looks at his latest opponent, his remaining eye widening in recognition.
"You've got to be kidding me! You?!" Malchior cries out incredulously.
"As much as I enjoy a spectacular show, I came to fight a dragon blow for blow," Etrigan states.
"Lord Etrigan! Listen to me! You and I are on the same side!" Malchior argues. "We both want the same thing; the end of mankind and the gods!"
"Jason Blood and I; our fates intertwine. Because of this deal, his battles are mine," Etrigan explains.
Malchior growls. "Then you both will burn!" he declares before spitting fire right onto the demon, who doesn't move a muscle.
After a few moments, Malchior ceases his fiery attack…and is startled to find Etrigan untouched.
Etrigan chuckles. "Your memory is short. What a crying shame. Did you forget? I was born of flame!"
Malchior doesn't have time to smack himself for his stupidity as Manda smacks him again with a giant serpent tail.
"Is this what demons are like in this world?" Hydra asks curiously.
Raven shrugs. "More or less."
Etrigan turns to the two chakra wielders. "Powerful, skilled, and insane are you two. It would be my pleasure to fight with you."
Hydra gives a friendly smile. "You're more than welcome to, whoever you are."
With that, Hydra, Raven, Manda, and Etrigan all charge at the dragon.
Manda uppercuts Malchior with his tail.
Raven barrages Malchior from above with black lightning.
Hydra and Etrigan slash at Malchior's soft underbelly with their swords.
Malchior roars in frustration and pain. He slams his front claws into the ground, releasing a magical shockwave that tears up the earth and heads right for his opponents.
Hydra steps forward with purple eyes. "Almighty Push!"
The other Titans watch in terror as the wave of magic crashes onto Raven's position.
"RAVEN!" Beast Boy cries out as he tries to run out and help his friend, though Cyborg holds him back.
When the dust settles, Hydra's invisible shield appears to have successfully blocked the magical shockwave, to Malchior's frustration.
'Dammit!'Malchior screams internally as he glares at Raven, Hydra, and Etrigan. 'Damn them. Damn that treacherous witch! Damn her warlock boyfriend! Damn that meddling demon! Damn that troublesome sna–wait a minute! Where's the snake?!'
Manda answers the unspoken question by erupting from the ground underneath Malchior and attempting to swallow the dragon whole. Malchior saves himself by holding the snake's jaws open, keeping himself from being eaten. Manda fully emerges out of the earth and rises to his full height while continuing to try and bite down. Malchior prepares a fire breath to burn the inside of Manda's mouth.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"
"AARGH!"
Raven's Mental Torture spell halts that plan as Malchior focuses on fighting back the magical migraine and not being devoured.
This leaves him exposed to Hydra and Etrigan, who stab through both of his wing-body joints with their swords, making the dragon roar in pain.
"We cannot allow this wurm to fly free!" Etrigan calls out as he and Hydra each grab a wing. "On my count! One! Two! Three!"
The two warriors pull the wings with all of their strength, growling with exertion. The two of them hear the separation of skin, muscle, and sinew, before–
SQUELCH! X2
"HIYAAAAAAGH!" Malchior howls in agony as his wings are torn off of his back.
Down below, the other Titans all turn green (more than usual for Beast Boy). Even Batman feels his stomach turn a bit.
Up above, the combined physical and mental torture is too much for Malchior as his limbs lose their strength. Manda's jaws chomp down on the dragon, his uppermost fangs piercing the soft underbelly and immediately injecting venom into the body. Malchior scratches, claws, and bites at Manda's snout to try and free himself, his entire body wracked with pain.
Hydra, Raven, and Etrigan watch this from atop Manda's head.
{Hold him still, Manda!} Hydra commands as he prepares a Rasengan.
"Wait a minute," Raven interjects. "Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"
Lime green fire bursts forth from Raven's hands and travels into the chakra orb, changing the color from yellow to green.
Hydra smirks, loving Raven's idea. "Foxfire!"
Ethereal blue fire erupts off Hydra's body before entering the orb, making the blue color mix with the green.
"I think there might be room for some more," Etrigan says. "Try out the flames that Hell doth bore!"
Orange hellfire spits out of Etrigan's mouth and into the Rasengan, the orange swirling with the green and blue in a beautiful display of heat and power.
{Manda! Release!} Hydra orders.
The giant snake grumbles a bit before spitting Malchior out of his maw.
The dragon sees Hydra jump down towards him, spiraling magic in hand. He tries to put up a magic guard only to be crippled by pain and venom.
"Inferno Rasengan!"
The orb impacts Malchior's chest, easily tearing through flesh and scorching all injuries created.
'I'm supposed to be fireproof!' Malchior shouts internally. 'Why does it BURN?!'
The dragon gets no answer as he's propelled by the Rasengan down to the ground below.
"Damn you!" Malchior shouts at the warlock responsible for his suffering. "HYDRA!"
As soon as Malchior's back contacts the rock, the orb detonates.
KABOOM!
Creating a blazing and colorful explosion of green, blue, and orange.
The heat and light from the blast make the heroes at ground level flinch and shield their eyes. Eventually, both heat and light die down, allowing the heroes to see a large plume of dust coming from Malchior's crash site.
Manda slithers over to the site and lowers his head, allowing his passengers to dismount. Raven takes the lead as she, Hydra, and Etrigan walk over to the crater, intent on finishing the fight once and for all.
They stop, however, as a human-sized figure stumbles out of the crater.
The three prepare for a fight as the dust clears…revealing a battered and bloody version of Malchior's human disguise minus the scarf that hid his face.
"Raven! Wait! It's me! It's Rorek!" the human-looking figure pleads with a relieved smile. "You did it, Raven! You freed me!"
The exclamation makes the trio pause.
"Yes! You freed me from Malchior's possession!" the man claiming to be Rorek explains. "You see, we both were trapped in my tome during our battle. Our consciousnesses have been fighting each other for control for centuries. He was the one you were speaking with when you discovered the true nature of the tome. I've been trying to take back control, but I wasn't strong enough by myself. At least we were both powerless when we were released."
Hydra gives Etrigan an "Is he serious?" look, getting an amused smirk in response.
Raven's face, however, is stony.
"Rorek" continues, "I am so sorry, Raven. It was unbearable to see him hurt you and use you with my own body. That beast was a menace. You didn't deserve his wrath."
Raven keeps her impassive expression as "Rorek" trips on his own feet right in front of her.
"Rorek" raises himself to his knees. "M-My body is mortally wounded, Raven. Please, heal me. Give me the opportunity to redeem myself. I will devote the rest of my existence to helping you in any way I can. Please, Raven."
A distance away, the other Titans (plus Batman) look on, wondering what choice the sorceress would make.
Raven appears unmoved as another pulse of agony hits "Rorek".
"Rorek's" smile falls as his eyes look desperate. "Raven? W-What are you waiting for? I-I'm dying!"
No changes in expression from Raven.
"Raven! Save me!" "Rorek" demands as he becomes more and more enraged. "You have to save me! You owe me that much!"
Raven's hands clench at her sides.
"You're a hero, aren't you?! Heroes are supposed to save people!" "Rorek" shouts. "Do your damned job and SAVE ME!"
Raven finally makes her decision as she raises her hand, which emanates black magic. Hydra's surprised to see his Kusanagi sword fly out of his grip and into Raven's grasp.
"Hero. Villain. Those labels don't matter; not for people like us, right?" Raven reminds her ex with a sadistic smile.
"Rorek's" eyes widen in horror while Hydra and Etrigan grin wickedly.
"Raven! Stop! Don't!" Robin cries out as he and the other heroes run to stop Raven.
"You traitorous little whore!" Malchior exclaims as his draconic features begin returning. "I should have raped and butchered you when I–"
SLASH!
Despite Raven's lack of skill with a sword, the blade slices cleanly through Malchior's neck, slaying the dragon once and for all.
Malchior's head tumbles off to the side before returning to its dragon shape. The rest of his body also twitches before collapsing to the ground and regressing to its true form.
The other heroes, having failed to stop Raven, can only watch the aftermath of her actions.
"Did she just…" Cyborg asks in disbelief.
"Dude…" a stunned Beast Boy mutters.
"Raven," Starfire says in concern for her friend.
Robin, meanwhile, looks over to Batman and winces at the hard look the Dark Knight is giving Raven.
Back with the trio, Etrigan and Hydra watch as Raven continues standing in front of Malchior's corpse.
"Thus ends the tale of Malchior the Dread," Etrigan says in amusement, "with a swing of a blade, off goes his head."
Hydra says nothing, instead choosing to approach the girl he's come to love.
Raven looks up at Hydra, revealing how hard she's trying to hold back her tears with a neutral expression, and offers the Kusanagi blade back to him. Hydra appears to reach for the sword…but instead wraps his arms around Raven in a comforting embrace. Surprised for a moment, Raven rests her head on Hydra's shoulder and accepts the relieving hug while dropping the sword.
"It wasn't real," Raven says somberly. "It was never real…so why does it hurt so much?"
"Because, for a time, it was real for you," Hydra answers sympathetically.
Hydra's words hitting too closely, Raven struggles to suppress her sorrow, her cloak flickering to blue as her magic starts pouring out of her body.
The magic stops abruptly, however, when an orange chain gently wraps around her waist.
"It's okay, Raven," Hydra says reassuringly. "Just let go. We'll take care of you."
With that, Raven finally relinquishes control as she sobs in Hydra's arms, the villain's chain keeping her magic in check. Hydra quietly speaks words of comfort in Raven's ear while her tears stain his jacket, and her hands hold tightly onto him.
The other heroes regroup with Etrigan as their gazes are focused solely on Raven and Hydra together. Not even the sight of Manda devouring Malchior's body in the background is enough to distract them.
Starfire's expression is pained both from the sight of Raven in despair and of the sorceress allowing Hydra to comfort her.
Beast Boy has a similar mindset. 'It should have been me.'
Robin, meanwhile, is analyzing Hydra's look of concern and compassion. 'Dammit. He really is in love with her.'
Etrigan smirks. "A powerful sorceress and her loving stranger. Put together, they make quite the danger."
Cyborg's human eye twitches. "Don't you have somewhere else to be now?"
"I believe Jason Blood is needed more in this situation, Etrigan," Batman says while continuing to glare at the two chakra wielders.
Etrigan groans in annoyance before looking over to Hydra.
"Warlock," Etrigan calls out, making Hydra glance his way, "you and I will meet again! Make sure your skills are sharp until then!" The demon's form is then covered in fire. "Gone, gone O' Etrigan! Return once more the form of man!"
In a flash of fire, Jason Blood reemerges into the physical world.
"I must say, he hasn't been that satisfied in an age," Jason comments.
Hydra looks up as Manda finishes swallowing up the dragon's corpse.
{Manda, you can return home now,} Hydra says to his summon. {Thanks for the help.}
{But of course, Summoner. I always end up well fed when you call upon me,} Manda replies before narrowing his eyes. {Make sure you keep it that way.}
With the underlying threat, Manda disperses in a massive burst of smoke, a sight unfamiliar to Batman and Jason Blood.
"Curious. This is an unusual form of magic for a warlock," Jason comments.
"A problem?" Batman asks, their previous conversation coming to mind.
"Only for the unprepared," Jason answers.
"You know we can hear you guys, right?" Hydra points out with an annoyed look.
Robin huffs before he and the other Titans approach Raven and Hydra.
"As much as we appreciate your help with Malchior, Hydra, you've overstayed your welcome too," Robin declares.
"Yeah, so let go of Raven and get off our island!" Beast Boy commands.
Hydra smirks in amusement at the changeling's demand, making the green teen glare harder. Nevertheless, the Shinobian begins to separate himself from Raven…only for Raven to cling onto his jacket with a desperate look.
"No! Don't go!" Raven pleads. "Hydra, please!"
"Raven, he can't stay here," Cyborg states bluntly.
"He is a member of The Hive, our sworn enemies," Starfire points out. "He is not one of us."
"What if he was one of us?" Raven asks, surprising everyone else. "What if he was a Titan?"
"You can't be serious!" Beast Boy exclaims incredulously. "After everything he's done?!"
"Raven, that's too big of a risk," Robin says. "We can't trust him."
Raven glares at the other Titans and hugs Hydra close. "Right now, I trust him more than I trust you."
The sorceress's words feel like arrows of distrust going through the other Titans' bodies.
"Trouble in paradise?" Kurama asks in amusement.
Hydra sighs and clasps Raven's shoulders. "Raven. Look at us."
The magic girl instantly obeys the command.
"We need to leave anyways," Hydra calmly states, putting a finger to Raven's lips to keep her from interrupting. "There's a loose end at The Hive we need to take care of. Once that's settled, we'll return to you." He then strokes Raven's face with his hand. "Can you hold out for us until then, Raven?"
Raven sighs apprehensively, but nods. "Yes, Daddy."
The last part makes a questioning look on Starfire's face, weirded-out looks from the heroic teenage boys, and a raised eyebrow from Batman.
Jason Blood, meanwhile, shrugs. 'Stranger relationships have occurred.'
Hydra smiles. "Good girl," he says before kissing the jewel on Raven's forehead, making the girl blush.
Hesitantly, Hydra removes himself from Raven, his chain dispersing as he picks up his sword. He then turns to the other Titans.
"Please look after her," Hydra asks.
"Your request is unneeded, villain," Starfire says indignantly before dragging Raven away with a humph.
Batman then approaches the Hive villain. "Hydra. Look at me."
Hydra turns to face the Dark Knight, allowing the latter's mask to analyze the teen's face.
"What is it you're after?" Batman questions.
Hydra takes a moment and rubs his chin in thought.
"…Home," Hydra answers before making a handsign. "Do you think we can find it here?"
In a swirl of flames, Hydra disappears, leaving the heroes alone on a now battle-scarred island.
Location: Headmaster's Office, Hive Academy
Timeskip: 30 Minutes Later
Hydra has a calm and confident smile on his face as he walks down the hallway towards Brother Blood's office. He arrives and sees the Hive Trio standing just outside the door with terrified expressions.
"Dude, he is so pissed right now," Gizmo points out with a shudder.
"Is that so?" Hydra asks as he scratches the back of his head, making sure to touch something on his neck.
"Seriously, Hydra. Be careful," Jinx warns.
"C'mon, Jinx. This is us we're talking about," Hydra says before walking into the office.
He immediately spots the enraged headmaster glaring daggers at him.
"A problem, Headmaster?" Hydra asks with a smile as the door closes behind him.
"There absolutely is a problem, my student," Brother Blood states angrily. "You were given a job; infiltrate S.T.A.R. Labs and retrieve their secret project files. It was a simple in-and-out 10-minute mission that would have secured our deal with Lex Luthor and my plans for the city. It's been nearly an hour since you left the school, and I've been informed that you never even entered the building!" Blood's fingernails dig into his desk. "Explain this NOW!"
Hydra takes the rage in stride. "We got distracted. You see, a dragon was attacking Titans Tower, and we went over to assist."
Brother Blood looks surprised. "You helped a dragon against the Titans? That's rather unusual, but I suppose–"
"Actually, it was the other way around," Hydra corrects.
"…You helped the Titans?" Blood asks in disbelief. "Why?"
"Because we're in love with Raven," Hydra answers bluntly.
"WHAT?!" Brother Blood shouts.
"Actually, we've been in love with her for quite some time now," Hydra clarifies.
Brother Blood starts tearing his hair out. "Confound it, boy! Need I remind you that you are in my school to be a supervillain?! Villains do not date heroes! It's Rule Number 7 of Hive Villainy! We covered this during your first week, for crying out loud!"
"We completely understand the complication our love for Raven makes for our career in The Hive," Hydra says easily, "which is why we formally tender our resignation from the academy."
Brother Blood blinks owlishly at Hydra's declaration before chuckling sinisterly.
"Oh, Hydra, my dear boy, I will never accept your resignation–formally or otherwise. In fact, I thank you for the opportunity for me to show you just where you belong," Brother Blood says before his eyes glow red.
The headmaster's power hits Hydra's mind like a freight train. A pained expression appears on Hydra's face as he's forced onto his hands and knees with grit teeth.
Brother Blood unfurls his left sleeve, revealing a familiar piece of machinery on his arm.
"The ionic amplifier," Brother Blood explains. "Our class project that you helped create. With this, my mental powers can more than easily overcome your defenses."
The smug supervillain casually walks over to Hydra, who appears to struggle against the mind control.
"It's pointless to fight against it, my student. You'd best accept my rule for your own sake," Blood says before leaning down to his subordinate. "You've been operating without a leash for far too long, Hydra. From now on, no matter where you go, no matter how much you try to resist, you belong to me, and you will obey every command without question."
Brother Blood's smile drops, however, when he notices a strange design on the back of Hydra's neck.
"What is that?" Blood asks, not noticing that Hydra has stopped struggling and is now smirking while wind chakra coats his claws.
Suddenly, Hydra leaps up and grabs Brother Blood's left arm before using his free hand's claws to slice through the ionic amplifier…and Blood's arm.
"GAAAAGH!" Brother Blood cries out as his clutches his new stump that bleeds profusely. He uses his magic to stop himself from bleeding out.
This leaves him exposed to the other set of claws that stab right through his stomach.
Brother Blood coughs up…well, blood, as he stumbles backwards and collides with his desk. As he slides onto his rear, he looks up and sees his student looking down at him with glowing red eyes and a face-splitting fanged grin.
"How–uck! How did you…resist my power?" Brother Blood questions through wet coughs. "I–ack! I had…the amplifier…"
"And we have an amplifier of our own," Hydra responds as he points at his neck. "A Mental Reinforcement Seal–our latest design. A little extra layer of protection against unwanted intrusions into our head."
Brother Blood realizes, "You…you made it…for me…"
Hydra nods as he approaches the headmaster. "Since your first attempt to enter our mind when we met you all those weeks ago. Like we said before, we highly value our privacy and autonomy."
After closing the distance, Hydra grabs Brother Blood by the throat and hoists him up off the floor.
"I…ugh…I was trying to make you…a great villain," Brother Blood reasons.
"We do appreciate you giving us the lay of the land, but we never needed your help in teaching us to be a villain. Someone else beat you to it a lifetime ago," Hydra informs. "We certainly had fun, though, and we made some great friends. Sadly, this game has gone on long enough, and now…"
Hydra's eyes shift to the purple Rinnegan before he places his hand on Blood's torso.
"…your soul is ours!"
The loss of Blood's hand was an agonizing experience for the older villain. Sadly, that pain is nothing compared to the extraction of his soul, which is pulled out of his body as a green energy and into Hydra's arm. Blood's pain is reflected in his body as his screaming form appears to shrivel up. After a few moments, Brother Blood's soul has been fully taken, leaving behind a withered corpse.
Hydra drops the body of his former teacher as his mind processes some of the madman's recent memories. He then looks over at a nearby painting, which he now knows has a safe behind it, and smirks.
Location: Outside Headmaster's Office, Hive Academy
"Mammoth! Let me go! I heard screaming!" Jinx cries out as she tries to go into the office, only for her gigantic friend to hold her back.
"Easy, Jinx! We don't know what's going on in there!" Mammoth tries to reason.
"Yeah! We don't want to get caught in the crossfire here!" Gizmo adds.
The struggling stops when the door opens, revealing a smiling Hydra with blood on his costume carrying a treasure chest under his arm.
"Hydra? Are you okay?" Jinx asks in concern.
"Why do you have blood on you?" Mammoth questions.
"And what are you doing with that Atlantean treasure?!" Gizmo demands.
"In order; we're fine, the blood came from Blood, and the treasure is our spoils of war," Hydra answers easily.
Confused, the Hive Trio peak into the headmaster's office, only to blanch upon seeing the carnage left behind.
"DUDE! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" Gizmo exclaims.
"Pretty self-explanatory, we think," Hydra replies.
"Wait. Does this mean…you're leaving?" Jinx asks with a sinking feeling.
Hydra's smile saddens. "We're afraid so."
"What about the whole 'taking over the city' thing?" Mammoth asks.
Hydra shrugs. "You can go ahead with it if you want. As for us…"
Jinx gives Hydra a knowing look. "You're going after her, aren't you?"
Hydra nods.
"I don't know who the hell you're talking about, but you're not taking that Atlantean gold with you!" Gizmo declares.
Hydra grins as his eyes flash red. "Go ahead. Take it from us."
Gizmo immediately starts sweating profusely. "…Nevermind."
Hydra's eyes and grin shift back to normal. "Don't be so upset, friend. The way we see it, without Brother Blood, you now have full control over his robotic army and inventions."
Gizmo blinks as he processes this information.
The genius then grins wickedly. "Sweet!"
Hydra turns to the larger male. "As for you, Mammoth, we'll make sure to keep our communicator handy in case you need a hand on a future heist."
Mammoth smiles and pats Hydra's back. "I'll hold you to that."
Hydra then looks at his last and greatest friend. "Jinx…we…"
The hex girl gives a small smile. "Don't worry, Hydra. It's just me finding the perfect guy only for him to have already found the perfect girl. I'll get over it."
Hydra smirks. "We're hardly the perfect guy. You'll find him eventually."
Jinx cups Hydra's cheek. "It'll take a while. You set the bar high, Whiskers," she says before pecking the boy's lips.
Hydra smiles fondly at the Hive Trio. "Until we meet again."
With that, Hydra heads off down the hallway, leaving his friends – and his career in The Hive – behind him.
Location: Living Room, Titans Tower
Raven looks annoyed as she sips her tea while sitting on the couch.
"Why do I feel like this is an intervention?" Raven asks Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Starfire, who are all sitting around her.
"Well, you did make the suggestion for Hydra to join the team," Cyborg points out.
"Yeah. Totally bonkers right there," Beast Boy adds.
"I mean, he did mention that he was curious about being a superhero," Raven mentions.
"When did he say that?" Starfire asks in curiosity.
"…When we had tea together the day we fought Black Manta," Raven admits.
Beast Boy chuckles humorlessly. "I'm not even surprised anymore."
"Okay, seriously, what is it about the guy you like so much?" Cyborg question.
"Is it his magic prowess and well-defined muscles?" Starfire guesses.
Raven blushes. "That's certainly part of it. It's mostly the way that he treats me. On the one hand, he recognizes my own strength and encourages me to get stronger. On the other hand, he makes sure I'm safe and protected, and he heals me when I'm hurt. He genuinely cares about me, more than Malchior ever did. Even the few times he's held me, he was rough, but he wasn't trying to harm me. It was more like him claiming me, declaring that I was his. Honestly, it felt…reassuring, in a way, like I had his support no matter what."
"It kinda sounds like he wants to…I don't know…own you or something," Beast Boy notes.
Raven looks away with a smile. "That's not exactly a turn-off for me."
"…You are one freaky lady," Cyborg mutters.
Raven smirks at the mechanical teen. "You should see my library." She then looks somber. "I guess it's 'should have'."
"Don't worry about that, Rae. I'll have your room fixed up in no time," Cyborg says confidently.
"While you wait for your room to be repaired, you are more than welcome to stay in mine!" Starfire eagerly offers. "We can have an Earth sleepover with the decorating of nails, the styling of hair, and the gossiping about our male companions! It will be glorious!"
Raven cringes. "…Or I can just take the couch," she counters, making Starfire sulk a bit.
"Meanwhile, I volunteer for Hydra Guard Duty!" Beast Boy proclaims before shifting into a green German Sheperd.
Raven rolls her eyes. "Words cannot describe how safe I feel," she says sarcastically before taking another sip of her tea.
Nearby, Robin is having a discussion with Batman and Jason Blood.
"Well, the good news is that Malchior has finally been slain after almost a thousand years," Jason states. "That's one less Chaos Dragon to deal with."
"The bad news is that Raven and Hydra are way too close for my liking," Robin says with concern.
"I can tell that the next time Hydra and Raven meet, she'll likely leave with him if he asked," Batman says.
"She wouldn't. Even if she did, we won't let that happen," Robin declares. "We can keep her here in the tower until Hydra's stopped. She doesn't really go out anyways except for missions."
"From what I've witnessed of Hydra's strength and cunning, Raven's the only one on your team who has a chance of matching him, let alone defeating him," Jason points out.
"And he's already demonstrated that he can enter the tower whenever he wants," Batman states. "This place isn't secure enough…but I know somewhere that is."
Robin quickly realizes what his mentor's talking about. "The Watchtower? You're not planning on imprisoning her there, are you?"
"No, but she can take a week or two off somewhere beyond Hydra's reach," Batman offers. "Black Canary often works as a counselor helping other heroes with personal issues. She could help Raven work through her emotions and get over Hydra."
Robin crosses his arms with an unsure look. "I don't know, Batman. Having her up there alone for two weeks…"
"It's either that or we run the risk of her being snatched up in the middle of the night," Batman states bluntly.
Robin sighs. "Fine. I'll convince Raven. She'll need to rest here for tonight, though. She deserves that, at least."
Batman nods. "That'll work. I need to set things up at The Watchtower, anyway. You all get some sleep, then fly up to us in the morning."
"Thanks, Batman," Robin says before walking over to the couch to talk with Raven.
"I take it that you won't need a teleportation back to Gotham?" Jason guesses.
"No thank you, Jason. I do appreciate the help tonight, though," Batman thanks.
"After your assistance during that adventure with Sherlock Holmes, it's the least I could do," Jason replies as he prepares his spell, only to pause and give Batman a knowing look. "Are you really planning on giving Raven therapy sessions?"
"…If you happen across anything that can help take Hydra down…," Batman says, avoiding the question.
Jason sighs. "You will be the first to know," he says before waving his hands around. "Infernalis onerariis."
A red circle appears under Jason's feet, which creates fire that quickly covers Jason. The fires soon disperse with the circle leaving no trace of Jason Blood.
Batman touches one of his ears. "Batman to Watchtower."
[This is Mister Terrific. Go ahead, Batman.]
"One to beam up. I'm calling an emergency meeting."
[…Understood. Standby.]
With shimmering light, The Batman vanishes from Titans Tower.
Location: Living Room, Titans Tower
Timeskip: The Next Morning
The light of the morning sun shining in from the large windows hits Raven's closed eyes. Her face twitches in discomfort before she awakens with a groan. She rise up from the couch with a yawn before stretching her neck, wincing at the sickening crack produced.
"Definitely not sleeping here again," Raven mutters.
A loud snoring gets her attention. She looks over and sees a familiar dog lying on his back and sleeping away with his tongue hanging out, making her smile at the amusing display.
The doors to the room suddenly open.
"GOOD MORNING, PEOPLE!"
The shout from Cyborg makes Raven jump and the startled dog flail about.
The dog shifts back into Beast Boy. "I'm awake! I'm awake! What happened?!"
"You nearly missed breakfast, that's what happened," Cyborg says happily as he, Robin, and Starfire enter the room, "and before you ask, Raven, this one's mandatory."
"Sweet!" Beast Boy exclaims as he goes to help Cyborg with breakfast, while Robin and Starfire approach Raven.
"How'd you sleep, Raven?" Robin asks.
"Not bad, for being on the sofa," Raven answers.
"Oh, I am most excited!" Starfire declares happily. "I have never been to the legendary Watchtower before! I am eager to meet the heroes from Thanagar, the Martian Manhunter, the Green Lanterns, and the Superman from Krypton!"
Raven looks down unsurely. "Yeah. Great."
Robin puts a comforting hand on Raven's shoulder. "Don't worry, Raven. Whatever happens, we'll have your back."
Raven takes a breath to steel herself before smiling. "Thank you."
"Order up!" Cyborg calls out, making everyone else hurry to the kitchen table.
In no time, a big stack of waffles is served to each Titan (non-dairy for Beast Boy.)
Raven looks at her wobbling stack warily. "I think I'm gonna need a to-go box."
Location: T-Ship Platform, Titans Tower
Timeskip: One Hour Later
The five Teen Titans are now approaching their massive orange T-Ship, the team's primary mode of sea and sky transportation. At the moment, it's been retrofitted with two solid-fuel rocket pods to help it enter space.
"Alright, team. Let's get seated in a hurry," Robin commands. "We don't have time to waste."
"Why is that?"
Robin looks annoyed. "Because we're trying to get out of here before Hydra shows up, like we discussed already."
"Really? This is the first we're hearing of it."
Robin groans and whips his head at the person talking to him. "How could you forget–"
The Boy Wonder stops, however, when he and the other heroes realize who he's talking to.
"A bright good morning to you all," Hydra greets with a smile.
While Raven's face lights up with joy, the other Titans quickly set up a protective perimeter around their comrade. Robin deploys his bo staff, Cyborg activates his sonic cannon, Starfire powers up her starbolts, and Beast Boy turns into a T-Rex.
"Titans! Don't let him get to Raven!" Robin orders.
Hydra continues to smile as he takes a step forward – and disappears.
Cyborg and his comrades blink in surprise. "Where did he go?!"
"Ahn!"
The four battle-ready Titans quickly turn around and see Hydra hugging Raven from behind.
"We told you we'd come back to you, Raven," Hydra mutters into Raven's ear, making the girl shudder in pleasure.
Raven smiles and reaches up to touch Hydra's whiskers while turning to look into his yellow eyes.
"I never had a doubt, Daddy," Raven replies before kissing his lips.
Hydra kisses back while roaming his hands across Raven's body, making the sorceress moan in delight. Raven reaches up behind her and grabs the back of Hydra's jacket, finding purchase as her tongue dances with her beloved's.
The other Titans have no choice but to witness the impromptu makeout session.
Beast Boy shifts back into a human. "Dudes, we are so bad at our jobs."
Robin shares the sentiment. 'Batman's gonna kill us.'
Hydra breaks the lip lock before grabbing and squeezing Raven's throat while leaning down to kiss the girl's neck. The combined sensations make Raven moan as she grinds her ass against Hydra's pelvis…and makes a startling discovery.
'Azar! He's bigger and thicker than I'd hoped!' Raven thinks while biting her lower lip. 'Oh, Daddy! You were made to break me!'
It's when Raven reaches down and starts massaging her own breasts that Starfire draws the line.
"How many times must I tell you, Hydra; unhand our friend!" Starfire demands while giving the villain a glowing green glare.
Hydra stops leaving hickeys on Raven's neck and hums in amusement.
"Raven, do you want us to unhand you?" he asks as he puts his hands over Raven's, taking over the groping of her tits.
"Fuck no!" Raven answers immediately, enjoying the way he takes control of her body.
"How the hell did you get past my security?!" Cyborg questions. "I just installed new cameras and traps last night! I made this place impenetrable!"
Hydra nods his head to the side. "And we made a hole."
Cyborg looks over and sees a fresh hole in the ground.
"Sonuvabitch!" Cyborg exclaims.
Hydra then looks over to the launchpad and whistles in appreciation of the Titan's ship.
"You all going on a trip?" Hydra asks the group while continuing his fondling.
The other four Titans have no wish to indulge him.
"They're taking me to The Watchtower, the Justice League's headquarters, to keep me away from you," Raven reveals, letting out a sharp moan as Hydra pinches her nipples.
"Raven!" Robin cries out in betrayal.
Hydra scoffs. "They're taking you to the Justice League? After what happened last time?"
Beast Boy, Starfire, and Cyborg look confused, while Robin's eyes widen in surprise.
"You didn't tell them," Hydra guesses as Raven looks away.
"Tell us what?" Beast Boy asks.
"Enough!" Robin interjects. "I don't know what your game is, Hydra, but you're not taking Raven!"
"We couldn't agree more. In fact, we're coming with you," Hydra states, surprising all five Titans.
"You are?" Raven asks.
"Of course!" Hydra confirms as he reaches up and strokes Raven's face. "We don't plan on leaving your side ever again. Whatever happens, you have our support."
Raven is touched by Hydra's care and affection.
"Dude, this is the Justice League we're talking about here. Earth's strongest and most awesome superheroes," Beast Boy points out. "You really want to fight those guys?"
"We just want to have a little chat with them about our future and Raven's," Hydra says as he returns a hand to her throat while hugging her to his body with the other arm. "We're sure they'd be willing to listen."
"Look, man. Even if it was okay for you to come along, the T-Ship's only got five seats, and there's not enough room for two people to share a pod," Cyborg points out.
Hydra smirks and makes a one-handed seal. "Transform."
In a puff of smoke, the humanoid holding Raven is replaced by a large white python that wraps its body around Raven's.
"How about this?" Hydra asks through the snake's mouth.
Raven gives her comrades a knowing look. "Guys, we all know this is happening. It's pointless to argue further."
The other Titans sulk at Raven's words.
"You're just saying that so you can hang out with 'Daddy'," Beast Boy grumbles.
Raven smirks and kisses Hydra's snake head. "And?"
"…"
Location: Space
Miles above the Earth's surface, the twin rocket boosters separate from the T-Ship as the vessel continues its ascent. Eventually, the spaceship exits the planet's atmosphere and heads for a specific location in Earth's orbit.
In the port wing pod, Raven watches the snake still wrapped around her body as he gazes down at the planet in wonder.
Raven smiles in amusement. "First time in space?"
"We used a Transportation Jutsu to arrive on your planet," Hydra responds. "We never actually travelled through the stars. This is absolutely amazing!"
"Hmph. Speak for yourself," Kurama mutters in discomfort.
"When did you get here to Earth?" Robin asks, trying to gather information.
"About a week before our debut," Hydra answers easily. "We met The Hive as soon as we arrived."
"And you just decided right then and there to join them?" Beast Boy asks.
The snake shrugs. "They offered to house and feed us while teaching us about the world. We did learn quite a bit from them, and we made some friends along the way. It was fun while it lasted."
"Does this mean you are no longer with The Hive?" Starfire questions.
"What do you think our loose end was?" Hydra asks back.
"I doubt that Brother Blood is the kind of person to just let you go," Robin says.
Hydra chuckles. "No. No, he wasn't."
Silence fills the ship as the Titans process the implication.
Beast Boy gulps. "So, uh, what now? You gonna make some kinda snake sanctuary or something?"
"Or something. Our priority now, however, is establishing our relationship with our beloved Raven," Hydra says as he nuzzles the girl's cheek, making her smile.
"And how exactly is that gonna work with you being a villain?" Cyborg questions.
Before Hydra can answer, Robin goes, "Titans! We're here!"
Everyone in the ship looks ahead and sees a colossal tower floating in Earth's orbit. The tower has a massive partial ring protruding out of the top and several smaller stations surrounding it. This is The Watchtower, headquarters of the Justice League.
"OOOH!"X6
All six teenagers (including the snake) press their faces to the glass and marvel at the spectacle of engineering.
Kurama, meanwhile, rolls his eyes. "Why can't you people ever keep your feet on the ground?"
Location: Hangar, The Watchtower
After landing their ship, the Titans exit the vehicle and walk through the hangar, with Raven and her companion hidden behind the others.
Cyborg whispers to Robin, "So, how long can we hide them?"
"Teen Titans. Welcome to The Watchtower."
The teenagers all stop as seven figures stand in a line to greet them.
On the far left is Martian Manhunter in his signature blue cape with red straps, blue trunks, and blue boots.
On the far right is the winged Hawkgirl wearing her Thanagarian helmet and carrying her Nth Metal mace.
Next to the Martian is The Flash wearing his scarlet speed suit, complete with golden lightning bolt ear wings and a yellow lightning bolt symbol on his chest.
Next to the Thanagarian is the emerald-suited John Stewart, Green Lantern of Sector 2814 and protector of Earth.
On the left of the center is Batman in wearing his signature suit and scowl.
On the right of the center is a beautiful woman with long black hair wearing a starry red-blue-and-gold armor that covers her torso and pelvis, a golden tiara, golden bracelets, and a glowing lasso on her hip. This is Wonder Woman, princess of Themyscira.
In the center stands the one who made the introduction; a man with short black hair wearing a blue bodysuit with a red cape, red trunks, red boots, and a yellow belt. On his chest is a red S in a yellow diamond, a symbol as famous as the sacred cross. This is Superman, the Last Son of Krypton and protector of Metropolis.
Together, they make up the founding members of the Justice League.
Immediately, stars appear in the eyes of Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Starfire.
"Well, alright!" Cyborg says with a smile.
"This is so sweet!" Beast Boy proclaims.
"Glorious!" Starfire cries out.
Flash turns to Martian Manhunter with a smile. "This part never gets old."
Robin, meanwhile, gives a nod to Batman, who responds with his own.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all," Wonder Woman addresses. "We've heard stories about you bravery and fighting spirit."
"And all of the freaky villains you guys fight," Flash adds. "Your bad guys give my Rogues Gallery a run for their money."
"We've been monitoring your progress since you first formed after the Gordanian attack," Martian Manhunter informs.
"So far, you kids have been proving yourselves as crimefighters," Hawkgirl compliments.
"Which is why you rookies have earned yourselves a chance to meet the big leaguers," Green Lantern states.
"To make a long story short, we're proud to have the five of you here with us!" Superman says cheerfully.
The four Titans in front suddenly wince at that last part, making the adult heroes look concerned.
"Um, we're happy for the introduction," Robin says with a shaky smile, "but…"
"It's actually six of us," says a sulking Beast Boy.
The four Titans in front reluctantly separate from each other, revealing Raven holding her scaly companion.
"Uh, who's your friend?" Flash asks in confusion.
The snake slithers off of Raven and onto the floor before bursting into smoke…revealing a grinning villain that puts the Justice Leaguers on high alert.
"Salutations! Hydra the Snake Sage, Bane of the Great Shadows, at your service!" Hydra greets with a tip of his hat and a flourishing bow.
A tense silence consumes the hangar.
"…Hm. Tough crowd," Hydra mutters as he raises himself upright, still smiling.
Batman glares at the Titans. "The entire point of bringing Raven here was to keep her away from him."
"So we discovered," Hydra says while glancing at the heroes behind him.
"Why are you here, Hydra?" Superman asks warily.
"We'd like to have a discussion with you fine heroes," Hydra answers. "We believe it's called a 'parley'."
"Are you speaking for yourself or The Hive?" Wonder Woman questions.
"We're no longer associated with The Hive," Hydra replies.
Martian Manhunter attempts to read Hydra's mind, only to be painfully forced out, his only reward being the image of a snarling nine-tailed fox.
"Ah ah ah!" Hydra calls out while waggling his finger. "You should know better than to invade people's minds without permission."
Green Lantern powers up his ring and aims it at the villain. "Says the kid who snuck into our home."
Hydra sighs. "Shoot first and ask questions later? Is this truly the mindset of Earth's greatest heroes? And here we thought we could be diplomatic."
"We can be diplomatic, but we can't be naïve," Superman says before nodding to Wonder Woman.
The Amazon approaches Hydra while unrolling her lasso.
"Your arm, please," Wonder Woman requests.
Hydra holds out his arm, which quickly gets wrapped up in the glowing rope.
"What is your name?" Wonder Woman asks.
"Hydra, formerly Naruto Uzumaki," Hydra answers flatly before blinking in surprise. "Wow. That went through our Mental Reinforcement Seal."
"Even the strongest minds are no match for the Lasso of Truth," Wonder Woman declares. "What is your interest in Raven?"
"We love her with every fiber of our being," Hydra responds, not needing the lasso for that one.
Raven's heart swells upon hearing this, while everyone else looks surprised.
"Uh, I think your rope thingy's busted," Beast Boy says only to shrink back from the Amazon's glare.
"What is your intent with her?" Wonder Woman asks.
"We intend to have a happy relationship with her, and we will do anything necessary to make that happen," Hydra says with a sinister tone at the end.
Everyone else tenses up.
"…Which is why we want to join the Teen Titans," Hydra finishes.
(cue record scratch.)
…
"WHAT?!" X4 Raven's comrades shout in disbelief.
Raven, meanwhile, is overjoyed. 'This is perfect! I get to have my friends and Daddy!'
"I did not see that coming," Flash mutters.
"Some heavy stones on this one," Hawkgirl comments.
Superman walks up to Hydra. "You truly want to be a hero?" he asks in a hopeful tone.
Hydra sighs. "We don't know how to be 'good' by your standards, but we have entertained the idea of becoming a hero more than once," he explains as he glances back at Raven. "On the other hand, we have plenty of distrust of your organization considering what you nearly did to Raven the last time she was here."
The Justice Leaguers (minus Batman) have guilty expressions.
"Seriously. What happened last time?" Beast Boy asks Raven.
"Long story," Raven answers with a hint of sadness.
"With all that being said," Hydra continues, "if being a hero means we can be with the girl we love," Hydra then gives Superman a firm stare, "then we're willing to learn if you're willing to teach."
Superman smiles at the Shinobian's words.
"Ahem."
Superman quickly looks back at Batman, who's now right next to him. The Dark Knight is giving a peculiar glare, as if he's reminding the Kryptonian about something. Superman looks somber as he sighs and turns back to Hydra.
"The League will have to discuss your potential membership another time," Superman states.
"Hey! What about us?! We should be included in–" Cyborg cries out, only to get a placating hand up from Superman.
"In the meantime, there's still the matter with Raven we need to take care of," Superman continues.
"In that case, we'll just tag along with you all," Hydra declares.
Batman's glare narrows at the villain. "You think you get to decide that?"
Hydra chuckles. "Oh, calm yourself, Mr. Caped Crusader. If we really wanted to hurt anyone here," he says as his yellow eyes turn blood-red and his grin widens, "we would have done so already."
The air is thick and heavy as the two stare each other down, neither of them willing to yield.
"…Fine," Batman relents before pulling out some handcuffs, "but you'll be wearing these."
Hydra shrugs as Wonder Woman removes her lasso. He holds his wrists up, allowing Batman to cuff him. Immediately upon them being secured, Hydra feels a familiar emptiness take hold.
"Amazing! It's like the ritual you tried back at the museum," Hydra says, addressing Raven at the end.
"Nth Metal handcuffs, specifically designed to neutralize magical beings," Batman explains.
"Interesting," Hydra mutters while examining the cuffs.
"Well, now that that's settled, let's get to it," Superman says.
With that, the Justice League leads the group of teenagers further into The Watchtower, with Hydra walking smack dab in the middle of the group while having multiple pairs of eyes on him.
As the traverse the hallways, Raven is able to maneuver herself next to Hydra and grab hold of his arm, much to the annoyance of her teammates.
Raven leans into Hydra and whispers, "Whatever happens, you have my support."
Hydra smiles at his love reciprocating his earlier declaration.
Two heroes hear the whisper. One of them is Superman, who has a thoughtful expression.
'I've never known anyone to trick Diana's Lasso of Truth.' Superman muses. 'Between that and the fact he was willing to surrender himself for the girl he loves…maybe Batman was wrong about him being irredeemable.'
The other one is Batman, who glares back at a now ashamed-looking Robin.
Eventually, the large group reaches their destination, the Main Foyer, where an equally large group of other heroes await them.
The Teen Titans are once again starstruck. There are heavy hitters in the form of Aquaman, Captain Atom, and Supergirl. There are magical heroes in the form of Doctor Fate, Zatanna, and Captain Marvel. Then there are the street-level crime-fighters; Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Vixen. Even some relatively unknown heroes–S.T.R.I.P.E., Stargirl, Fire, and The Shining Knight–are here.
Hydra notes how some of the heroes have resolute expressions, while others seem reluctant to be here.
Beast Boy smirks and leans close to Hydra. "Bet you're quaking in your boots, huh?"
Hydra continues smiling. "Why do you say that?"
"Duh! All of these heroes here? They're making sure you don't try any funny business," Beast Boy says, with Cyborg and Starfire nodding along.
Robin and Raven, however, start to look unsure.
Hydra, meanwhile, looks right at Beast Boy. "One problem with that idea, little genius; they didn't know we were coming, did they?"
Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Starfire all have question marks that appear above them.
Raven is the first to fully grasp Hydra's words. She takes a closer look at the heroes assembled. She sees Doctor Fate with magical energy emanating from his hands. She sees Zatanna with her wand out and a scowl on her face. She sees Green Arrow with an arrow knocked and The Shining Knight with his sword unsheathed.
Most glaringly, she sees that every single hero assembled is looking right…at…
"…Me…," Raven mutters in horror, getting the other Titans' attention. "They're here for me!"
The sorceress's comrades gasp at this.
Robin sends a betrayed look to his mentor. "Batman! Tell me this isn't what I think this is!"
"I'm sorry, Robin," Batman responds with a straight face, "but this needs to happen."
Doctor Fate floats to the front of the other group.
"Raven, daughter of Trigon, you will surrender to our authority immediately," The Sorcerer Supreme declares to the anguished Raven.
Chapter End
AN: Bum Bum BAAAAAA! What a way to end yet another lengthy chapter!
So, Malchior has finally been pulverized and eradicated! Hooray! I hope I did a good job with that battle. I made sure that Hydra and Raven both got some sizable licks in.
By the way, Etrigan's involvement in the battle wasn't my first choice. Jason Blood initially had a much smaller role in the chapter, but the more I involved him with the lore and everything, the more I felt that his demonic side's presence was needed.
Also, Hydra's killed off his headmaster and left the Hive. A shame for his friends, but it honestly was a long-time coming. Hydra's not a fan of being a subordinate, after all. Time will tell how this affects his future interactions with Lex Luthor and Hydra's other "employers."
Finally, hope you all enjoyed the little lore drop right at the beginning. Maybe I'll do one big origin story chapter, or maybe I'll just keep teasing you all with crumbs lol.
Next time, the truth of why Raven was brought to The Watchtower is revealed! Can she and Hydra escape this trap?! What ramifications will come from the outcome?! Find out next time!
Thanks for reading!
