Chapter 4: Treason

News of Mufasa and Simba's deaths spread throughout the Pridlands like wildfire. It didn't take long before the whole kingdom knew of their passing.

At Pride Rock, the whole den was in a state of depression.

Zazu hung his head low, remembering the promise he made to Mufasa only yesterday. Tears came to his eyes as dark thoughts clouded his mind.

Nala sat next to him crying, thinking of her last words to Simba before he...

They were suddenly alerted to a presence behind them when someone cleared their throat. They turned around to see Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed smiling down at them menacingly. The two of them backed away fearfully as Zazu spread his wings in front of Nala protectively.

"Well, well, well, looky what we have here!" Shenzi sneered down at them. Banzai and Ed let out a laugh at the sight of their faces.

Zazu glared up at her in defiance, puffing his chest out. Nala kept her head low, never once taking her eyes off them.

Before anything more could be said, Sarabi and Sarafina appeared and stood over them protectively, glaring at the trio. "What do you want?" Sarabi said coldly, eyeing them with an icy glare.

Shenzi smiled cooly, trying not to let her fear show. Banzai and Ed backed away, nervously grinning as they tried to make themselves look as small as possible, and hid behind Shenzi as if hoping the queen would not notice them. "N-nothing." Shenzi squeaked out, cursing herself for how frightened her voice sounded.

"Now, now, Sarabi don't be like that. We're all friends here!?" Scar said walking up next to her with a sly, almost smug smile.

Sarabi glared at him but said nothing.

Scar frowned at this, but let it slide for now. He turned his attention back to the hyenas, his smile returning. He then turned his attention back to Sarabi and the others. His gaze landing on Zazu specifically.

Zazu gulped as he and Nala backed themselves further behind Sarafina's leg.

"Zazu!" Scar said with an air of authority.

Zazu gasped and slowly made his over to him. "Yes..." he almost choked on his words as forced himself to say it. "...Sire?"

Scar gave him a menacing smile, one that told him he was in deep trouble. "You're under arrest." He said, stoned-faced. It was taking every amount of his willpower not to let his smile grow.

Zazu's blood ran cold. 'What did he just say?' The Pride looked on in equal shock. 'What exactly was happening!'

Sarabi getting over her shock glared at Scar, confused by his behavior. "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" She roared, wanting to know why her friend was being arrested. "For what crime?" She asked, looking for answers.

Scar looked up at her, with an almost smug look in his eye "Why for treason of course." He said, a bit too casually, unable to contain his smile anymore. It was calculating, and cruel.

Zazu was suddenly both angry and confused. "What are you talking about?" Zazu asked angrily, wanting to know what was going on.

Scar stopped smiling, his face becoming cold and serious. Zazu couldn't help but feel intimidated. Something was off about this. Scar allowed a small smug smile to crawl back up his face. This was going swimmingly. "You heard me, you are under arrest!" He said leaning his face forward, not really answering his question. He turned to his henchmen. "Seize him!"

Before he even knew what was happening, Zazu found himself being pinned to the ground by a pair of strong paws.

The Pride could only watch in shock in horror at how quickly it all went down. Zazu struggled a little and looked up at Scar with a look that was a mix of shock, confusion, and fear. Scar once again made sure to keep his face under control. He was enjoying this way too much. He looked up at Shenzi who was the one pinning him to the ground. "Bring in the cage and take him outside! Tomorrow he will stand trial."

Shenzi smiled wickedly and picked the bird up by his neck careful not to bite down too hard on him. Scar would kill her if she did. The Pride simply sat there in stunned silence. 'This can't be happening!' They thought. They could only watch helplessly as their friend was carried away.

Nala only sat there wondering if this nightmare was ever gonna end.
