So, for those who read my other stories, it wasn't on perpose. I didn't even catch the fact that not only did Sasuke run off in the last chapter of this story, but also in chapter 4 of Place to Call Home. It was a coincidence.

Chapter 40: Flames of the Heart

"I wonder what happened," Shima said as he took a bite of his food. Bon raised an eyebrow. "It seems that not only did the Okumuras fight, but so did the new kids." He motioned to the four individuals that were speaking to each other, except Naruto and Rin. They were eating their lunches, but they were being very quiet.

"If I had to guess," Izumo said. "I'd say that Okumura-sensei and Uchiha-kun got in a fight causing Okumura-kun to be mad at Okumura-sensei and Naruto-san to be mad at Uchiha-kun and vise versa." She took a bite of her food.

"Still, I don't think I've ever seen Rin so quiet," Shiemi said. "I wish I could help them."

"Let them be," Izumo said. She raised her voice. "If they want to be emo about it, let them."

Sasuke clenched his fists. He was still pissed off about yesterday and he didn't want to hear from a brat like Izumo. He crosses his arms and leaned back with a glare. So what if he was being reclusive? That's just how he was. He didn't like talking to others. Yukio just ignored them as he went through his class notes. He was preparing for their next lesson. Rin and Naruto pouted before continuing their discussion.

"We will be discussing Salamanders today," Yukio said. "So, what can anyone tell me about them?" As usual, Bon, Izumo, and Konekomaru raised their hands. "Rin?"

"Eh?" Rin asked.

"Well?" Yukio said. "Do you know anything about salamanders?"

"Ah, they... um... they're lizards?" Rin said.

Yukio sighed. "Salamanders are flame-based demons that possess lizards. They are classified as kin of Iblis." He turned towards the black board. He drew a picture of one on the board with a saying above it. "Magnus Ignis Pneuma is the chant uses to summon them as familiars. Can anyone tell me what that means? Suguro?"

"Magnus Ignis Pneuma is Greel for Great Fire Spirit," Bon said.

"Correct," Yukio said. "And now we will discuss their weaknesses." He turned back to the board and began teaching everyone more about salamanders. It was about twenty more minutes later when Yukio finally put down the chaulk. He held up a key. "Now lets see how you handle meeting some." He headed out the door, knowing that everyone would follow him. He lead them to a door and opened it using the special key. "Remember that these ones are not fully taimed. This is going to be an experience to see if any of you can taim a salamander. I will be here to make sure you guys are safe." He pushed the door open to a large volcano. It wasn't active, but there was still lava running across it. A few slamanders walked around the ground. "Make sure to stay together. It you get separated and in trouble, light the rocket-flare."

"I'm getting a sense of deja vu," Shima said.

"It won't be like the last time," Yukio said.

"Yeah," Izumo said. "Miss Shura isn't..."

"Sorry I'm late," a woman said.

"You've been gone for two days," Yukio said angrily.

"Ea-yeah, it doesn't matter," the woman said with a hiccup. "I'm here now!" She hugged Yukio then looked around, her eyes stopping on Naruto and Sasuke. "Oh? Who are the newbies?"

"Let go!" Yukio said as he struggled to get her off his arm. "There temporary students."

"Hm..." Shura walked over to them and bent down a little. She stared at them causing Naruto to blush and Sasuke to glared. She smirked and strieghtened up. "Well, it's nice to meet cha. Called me Shura-sensei!" She held out a hand. Naruto shook it, but Sasuke ignored it. "Think you're better than me do ya?" She grabbed Sasuke by the collar of his shirt. "You should know the proper way to treat your better."

"You mean elder?" Rin asked. Shura swiftly punshed Rin in the stoomach.

"Now that that's done," Shura clapped her hands together, smirk still in place. "I believe we have a lesson to resume."

"Right," Yukio said, pushing his glasses back. "As I was saying, we are strictly here only to learn more about them. Do not touch them or interfer in what they are doing." He walked ahead of them and begen to talk about how they lived. Shura stood at the back. Yukio finally stopped walking about thirty minutes later. "So know that you know the precausions and way to handle them, lets get each of you to capture one. We will be using the ones you catch as familiars." The group nodded before branching off. Yukio and Shura, mostly Yukio, made sure to keep an eye on everyone. Just as Shiemi and Izumo captured their salamanders, the ground shook. Several pairs of eyes looked towards the volacano.

"It's still active?" Konekomaru asked.

"It shouldn't be," Yukio said.

"Nope, it's not active!" a voice said. Everyone turned to see Amaimon standing nonchalantly. "I just thought I'd shake the place up a bit."

"Not you again!" Rin yelled. He grabbed he sword, ready to unsheath it.

"Relax," Amaimon said. "I'm not here for you." He vanished and suddenly appeared before Rin. "But if you want to, I don't mind playing a bit." He sent Rin flying with a kick. Taking out his lollipop, he turned towards Naruto and Sasuke. "Now, then. I heard there was something special about the new students, but they don't look it." He disappeared and appeared behind them, ready to kick them. But Naruto and Sasuke were already prepared. Amaimon let his foot drop to the ground. "Oh? I guess this will be fun afterall!" He suddenly charged at Naruto. Naruto blocked Amaimon's kick then swung around to kick Amaimon, who put up his arms and blocked it. Amaimon smiled. "Yes! This is so much fun!" The two kept fighting hand-to-hand. The others watched in amazement as it became clear that Naruto was equally as strong as Amaimon.

Rin stood up and glared at Amaimon. "Amaimon, you bastard!" He charged at him. Amaimon dodge, pushing Naruto into Rin. The force of the two colliding caused them to go flying backwards. Yukio caught Rin as Sasuke caught Naruto.

"Hn, Dobe," Sasuke said.

"Teme," Naruto said.

"Why are you holding back?" Sasuke asked. Several pairs of eyes widened. Naruto was holding back. Amaimon glared. He charged at them. Naruto raised a hand and slammed it into Amaimon's stomach. Red chakra formed around Naruto as him and Sasuke stood up. Two pairs of red eyes met gold. Naruto and Sasuke looked at each other before nodding. Naruto made his moved first.

Fearing whatever was surounding Naruto, Amaimon summoned his golem-state. It managed to defend well against Naruto's attack. However, it wouldn't stand up to Sasuke's. Sasuke used Chidori to destoy the golem. Amaimon cried out as he hit the ground. He glared at the two. "You two aren't human," he said getting back up. He looked at Rin. "Guess this is over. I'll admit, it was fun." He suddenly disappeared.

"Wow!" Rin yelled. "That was so cool." He ran up to Naruto and Sasuke. The others, though, stepped back. Fear flashed through everyone's eyes, including Shura. "Guys?" Rin turned towards his friends. "What's wrong?"

"You heard him!" Konekomaru said. "Those two aren't human. Even you have to use Satan's power to defeat Amaimon, but they did it so easily. And look! There's not a scratch on them!" This was true. Naruto may have been hit a few times, but Amaimon's hits were nothing compaired to Sasuke's when they sparred. Plus, when he called upon the Kyuubi's chakra, it healed him. Sasuke on the other hand was never hit and the only "damage" he recieved was when he caught Naruto. But that wasn't the first time he had caught Naruto, so he was unharmed.

Rin rolled his eyes. "So? It just goes to show how much stronger they are." He turned to Naruto. "We should spar sometime!"

"Why not right now?" Naruto asked.

"Sure!" Rin said.

"No," Yukio said. "We can't have you destroy the place."

"What about fire?" Shura asked. "You two have flames, so why don't we see which of your flames are stronger?" Rina and Naruto nodded. "Alright. Face each other and send out your flames at each other."

"Isn't that dangerous?" Izumo asked.

"They could get hurt," Shiemi added.

"Meh, their demon sides will protect them," Shura said. Yukio opened his mouth, but stopped. He knew it was pointless to argue about this.

"So, what do I get if I win?" Naruto asked.

"I'll make you a big dinner," Rin said. "But since you won't win, it looks like you'll be buying dinner tonight."

"Deal," Naruto grinned. Rin and Naruto stood a hundred feet away from each other. Suddenly, blue flames met red flames. Everyone watched as the two mixed, changing into purple flames. Rin and Naruto pouted.

"A tie," Yukio said in amazement. He expected Rin's flames to win, but to see that Naruto's were just as strong, was terrifying.

"Well, that's it!" Shura said. "Lets get back to the academy!" Everyone except Naruto and Sasuke followed her. Sasuke looked at the still burning purple flames.

"You held back again," Sasuke said.

"Yeah, well, I didn't want to scare them further," Naruto said. "Besides, Amaterasu is stronger."

Sasuke smirked. "True."

"I'm sorry," Naruto said. Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "I know how hard it is for you to trust someone. But I want you to trust me."

"Do you trust me?" Sasuke asked. The question surprised Naruto and Sasuke. The raven hadn't meant to ask that. But what was more surprising was Naruto's answer.

Naruto smiled. "Of course." He then turned and ran after the others.

Sasuke stood frozen before a smile appeared on his own face. "Dobe."

I can't tell you how many times I edited the fight. I've only seen Amaimon fight against Rin so it was hard to picture how he'd take one Naruto and Sasuke. I knew however that sadly, he didn't stand a chance against them. I decided a quick fight would probably be the best since I didn't want it to influence too much of the Blue Exorcist storyline. Oh, and for those who don't know, this takes place after the Kyoto Saga.

Note: Shura is 5'7" while Rin is 5'8". Naruto and Sasuke are now 5'6" and 5'5", Sasuke being taler than Naruto.
