Long ago, there was a girl who dreamed of being a defender. Hearing stories of her mother and father, her goal is to protect the weak like all Huntsmen and Huntresses. Her name being Ruby Rose, with pale skin and black hair with red accents. Although living comfortably with other young kids like her, she often feels isolated with her own personal passion for weaponry, inspired by her Uncle Qrow. She isn't often as sociable as her more confident older sister Yang. However one day, she was playing outside along with other kids during a recess hour, she'd spot a boy alone, sitting on a swing reading a book. She didn't know why, but she'd feel intrigued to approach him… The boy looked up, confused.

"Hi!" She exclaims cheerfully, and the boy would tilt his head,

"Hi…?" He says… Then everything fades to black…

Time passed, and a group of men would rob an old man for dust. In the same store, the same girl of the past would be unaware of it, until one of the criminals approaches her. "Are you robbing me?"

"Yes!"

"Oh..." With satisfaction in her heart, she would attack. After doing battle with the leader of the criminals Roman Torchwick, Ruby would be sought out by Glynda Goodwitch after she took the young girl to the Headmaster Ozpin.

Ruby meets with Yang as she just so happens to be transferring to the same school now. "Oh I can't believe my baby sister is coming in the same school as me! This is the best day ever!" Yang bear hugs Ruby tightly.

"Please stop..." She said choking from her older sisters hug.

"But I'm so proud of you!"

"It's nothing. Really..."

"What do you mean? It was incredible! You're gonna be the bees knees!"

Ruby is clearly nervous. "I don't want to be the bees knees! Okay? I don't want to be any kind of knees! I want to be a normal girl with normal knees!"

Yang raises her brow. "What's with you? Aren't you excited?"

"Of course I'm excited! It's just..." Ruby stutters. "I got moved ahead two years. I don't want anyone to think I'm special..."

The elder sister hugs her again. "But you are special..." Doesn't exactly make Ruby feel any better. They then take notice of the news that explains the same robbery that took place and the commotion it brought with the collateral damage when Goodwitch and Ruby took on Roman and his mysteriously powerful ally.

Ruby's eyes would wander the ship, until she set eyes on a familiar face she hasn't seen for a long time now. It was the same boy she approached some years ago on the playground. She blinked in confusion. She wondered if that's really him.

"Hey sis, what's up?"

"Uuuuh..." Ruby was nervous to say anything.

The raven haired boy casually flipped the page of a book, before he felt eyes on him, and looked up. He smiled once he caught sight of Ruby, closing his book, then came up to Ruby and Yang, "Ruby! It's been so long! It's so good to see you!" He said with a smile, as he sat next to Ruby.

She gasps. "It's you!"

Yang was confused. "Ruby? Who's that?"

"He's that boy I told you about!" Ruby explains.

"You must be Yang! Pleasure to meet you, Ruby has said a lot about you when we were in school together." He said, reaching his hand to shake.

"Oh! Your that boy Ruby talked about! What was your name again?"

"Name's Aiden!" He says as they shake hands.

Ruby would wonder where Aiden was all this time, as they had separated some time before she would be transferred, with Aiden going elsewhere for his education. It seems though, Aiden has followed her, and was coming to Beacon as well, "Say, I actually didn't expect you here! Thought we wouldn't meet until I was in my late years at Beacon, but here you are in my first year here."

She was excited and feels a lot less stressed knowing an old friend. "It's crazy! How have you been?!"

"I've been alright, studied hard. And as usual, passed with flying colors." He says with pride, "But enough on me, how have you been? I apologize that we had to separate for such a long time, studying and meeting expectations can really take a lot out of you... Well that, and my dad was taking me all over the place to 'Excel my mind better' or whatever he meant"

Yang nods with a smile. "We got ourselves a scholar."

Ruby notices Yang elbowing her arm. "Yang!" Embarrassed in her implications.

Aiden chuckles, "Well I'm glad we can catch up... Cause I got myself a new toy!" He says as he brandished a case that was pretty large, "This baby I've been training with for some time, and I'm quite excited to show you it at some point! It also uses dust as a source to help give it some oomph."

Ruby has stars on her eyes. "Whooooooooooooooa!"

Yang chuckles. "Here we go..."

"Yep! It'll knock your socks off once you see it... Do tell though, what are you using?" He asks curiously

Ruby was now confident as she shows off her own weapon, as her sniper gun she had on her back was now transformed into a scythe.

"Oh wow! That looks so cool!" He says as he looks at the scythe in awe, "Say, this scythe almost seems familiar."

She giggles. "Yeah. I might have some inspiration from my Uncle Qrow."

He nods, "That's sweet!" He props the case on his lap, and opens it, revealing a blade that looked very well and carefully designed. "Now here's mine. I call her the 'Crimson Forge'." He says, presenting his longsword with a distinctive, angular design. The hilt and guard are made of sturdy black metal with crimson accents. The hilt features a trigger mechanism, and the pommel houses a compartment for dust storage. The blade of the sword is a dark gray. There seems to be a mechanism in the back of the blade, where the user seems to need to pull it up, and put in a vial of dust. Multiple vials of dust can be seen placed in a desired spot within the case, neatly tucked. "This one is mine. Ain't she a beauty?" He asks, showing his weapon off.

She was brimming with excitement. Yang asks. "Whoa. Neat looking sword."

"Yep! Designed it myself... And a little help from another good friend of mine. This took about a couple months to make." He closes his case, "Anywho, are you excited to finally go to beacon, Ruby? You always said it was your dream."

She giggles again. "Y-Yeah… A little nervous if I'm honest..."

Yang then grabs Ruby by her shoulder. "Yeah my baby sister is just that good!"

"Yang!" She said with a blush.

A hologram of Glynda interrupts the news broadcast, which they had started watching when they began to hear it, and explains to the arriving freshmen that their world is currently in a state of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is their job to keep it in that state. As the airship flies over the City of Vale, the students have distant views of both Signal Academy and Beacon Academy, with Yang calling the latter their new home. Unfortunately, the moment is interrupted by Jaune Arc vomiting on Yang's boots, and Aiden recoils in disgust.

After that mess, they all reach to Beacon personally. "Beats the view from Vale, that's for sure." Yang mentions.

Ruby would notice a few students with their own unique weapons. She begins to geek out. "Hey! Yang look! Look at that staff And look at that sword! They all look so cool!"

Yang tries to calm her down. "Calm down sis, they're just weapons."

"Just weapons? They're extensions of ourselves! They are a part of us! They are so cool!"

"Aren't you happy with your own weapon?"

Ruby brings out her scythe. "Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose. I'm just excited to see new ones! It's like meeting new people."

Aiden nods, "I can see your logic, Ruby... To me, when in battle, I think of it as a dance of some sort, with your weapon, as Ruby has said, it is an extension of yourself. It's a vital component in hunting and..." He then sweatdrops and shrugs in embarrasment from rambling, "B-But what do I know, haha!"

Yang sighs, "You guys belong to each other I swear… Seriously though Ruby, you gotta try to talk to more people."

"Wait, I got you right?"

Yang then backs way and makes contact with some friends she knows. "Actually I got friends to catch up on. Gotta go! Bye!" She then leaves in a flash.

Ruby was then caught off guard.

"Wait, where are you going?! Aren't we supposed to go to our dorms? Do we have dorms?!" She then sighs in stress. "I don't know what I'm doing..."

Aiden puts a hand on her shoulder, "Hey, you'll find out eventually..." Aiden says, then backing up, but runs into Weiss, toppling her over, and Aiden landing on top of Weiss with an "oof".

"He-Hey! Get off of me!" She demands, pushing him aside roughly, "Watch where your going!" She points to him.

"S-sorry, ma'am! My bad!" He says as he helps her up and dusts her off, grabbing his case which he also dropped. Ruby steps up to aid,

"Oh! I'll help!" Ruby tries to help.

But Weiss won't have it. "Don't bother!" She brings out one of her dust bottles. "These are Dust! Manufactured from Schnee Corp!" Dust begins to leak out and get to Ruby's nose as she begins to moan a bit. "Are you depth? What's wrong with you?"

Ruby couldn't hold it in, and sneezes on Weiss with the fire dust all around, blowing up all over her face.

Aiden covers his face, and looks at Ruby, "Are you ok?!" He asks Ruby.

After shaking the dust off of her, she quickly goes on a rant. "Unbelievable! You did not just do that!"

Ruby felt bad. "I'm really really sorry!"

"You complete dolt! What are you even doing here?! Aren't you too young to attend? This isn't your regular combat school, we are fighting monsters! So watch it!"

Ruby begins to get annoyed. "Hey, I said I was sorry, Princess!"

"Heiress actually..." A black haired girl makes her presence known.

Aiden gets in front of Ruby and gives Weiss a hateful stare, and was about to strike back with an insult, but when he lays eyes on the Black haired girl, his mind goes blank, "Uh... Oh.." He says as he seemed caught off guard by her, and he was starting to blush a bit.

"Weiss Schnee. Heiress of the largest company of the Dust corporation." Blake explains.

Weiss smugly smiles. "Finally! Some recognition!"

Blake continues. "The same one company infamous for its controversial labor practices and questionable business partners."

Weiss was caught off guard. "What?! I…?! You…?!"

Ruby snickers to this.

"I mean, it seems logical." Aiden says with a shrug after his shock, agreeing with Blake

Weiss growls at Blake before storming out. Ruby still feeling bad let's out, "I'll make up for this I promise!" She still walks off. Ruby still felt bad. "I guess I'm not the only one with a rough start…"

Aiden, who waved goodbye to the Black haired girl, to which he seemed to leave a small impression on her, began to comfort Ruby, "Hey, look on the bright side, at least you are here, right? THE Beacon Academy! I'm sure you'll have plenty of chances when we start." He says gesturing towards the building.

Just then, Juan comes over, and Ruby identifies him as the 'vomit boy'.

"Oh! Vomit boy!"

Jaune winced a bit. "…It's Jaune actually…" He nervously said.

Aiden extends his hand, "Nice to meet you…" He then recoils his hand, "You uh… Washed, right?" He asked

Jaune would sigh. "Yeah… I'll go to the bathroom…" Shamefully walks out not wanting to gross anyone.

After he had washed up, Juan, Ruby, and Aiden walk together around the campus and talk. Ruby broke the awkwardness by showing Juan her Crescent Rose, and Juan showing his family heirloom, Crocea Mors, but he is blown away even more when Aiden pulls out his weapon, "I call her, Crimson Forge." He says as he slashed a but at the air to show it off. "It's more interesting if I was using dust, but I'd like to save it for later."

Ruby was all giddy. "Oooh I can't wait!"

Jaune was impressed. "Wow…"

"I still need to get a thing to hold this behind my back… But eh." He puts Crimson Forge back "Say, where even are we?" He asks

"Oh right! We're supposed to be on the auditorium for something!" Forgot about it after getting caught up on their talk.

"Were you just following us, thinking we'd know?" Aiden asked

"I...yeah?" He said, unsure what to say.

Aiden sighs, and pinched his nose, "Alright, it's ok, ok… Can you please take us to where we need to go then?" He asked

"S-Sure." He leads them there. They notice a lot of people gathered. Ruby see's Yang. "Hey, Ruby! Over here! Saved you a spot! Also your friend!"

"Oh! I have to go! See you after the ceremony!"

"Wait!" Jaune was bummed. "Great… Where am I gonna find another nice and quirky girl to talk to?"

Aiden just raises a brow at him, but shakes his head and follows Ruby, and stands beside her, as Yang asks how their day was,

"So, how was your day sis?"

Ruby was pretty mad. "Oh nothing! Just that you ditched me and I exploded!"

Yang was a little amused. "Yikes. Meltdown already?"

"No. Literally I exploded. There was fire. And I think there was ice?

"Saw the whole thing, was kinda funny. Didn't like a certain individual though." Aiden said nonchalantly.

Ruby then starts. "Yeah, she was yelling at me, and I wished she would stop and if I hear her yell at me again-"

"YOU!"

"EEP!" Ruby jumps on Yang's arms. "Oh gosh, its happening again!"

Weiss was still mad. "You're lucky we survived that explosion!"

"Oh wow, you really did explode..."

Aiden gives Weiss a harsh glare, "And you were lucky you walked away in one piece, yourself..." Aiden stated coldly, as he shifted more in front of Ruby in a protective stance. Weiss glares at him, unable to process someone having the gall to say that to her.

Ruby would be concerned that something bad would happen, but Weiss would just huff and throw a pamphlet at him, which he caught with his two fingers, reading it to be 'DUST for Dummies and other Inadequate Individuals', and Weiss would exclaim it'd be for Ruby, before Weiss left the three, and Ozpin stepped on the stage to speak, Aiden muttering insults under his breath, but turning his attention to the headmaster.

"Ahem. I'll make this brief. You have all traveled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you are finished you plan to dedicate your lives to the people. But when I look upon you all, and all I see is wasted energy. A need of purpose. Direction. You assume knowledge would free you from this. But you will soon learn that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." He was finished as Glynda dismisses everyone to their sleeping quarters.

Yang would note that Ozpin seemed to act off, with Aiden and Ruby agreeing, Ruby stating it's almost like he wasn't all there. Meanwhile, Juan approaches Weiss from the side, and quips that he is a natural blond, making Weiss groan in exasperation.

Everyone would be in sleeping bags in one room. Ruby writing a letter. Yang slipping in. "It's like a big slumber party!"

"I doubt Dad would approve of the boys though..."

"I know I would." Yang giggles at the sight. Jaune's one piece pajama though was a bit of a turn off. Yang would then notice Aiden whom seemed to be in a deep conversation with the black haired girl from earlier, whom she seemed very interested in what he was saying, which seemed to be about books. He wore a black tee with red flannel pants.

Yang turns to Ruby. "So… Who is he talking to?"

Ruby watches. "Uuuuuuh... I don't know..."

"Wanna find out?" Yang slyly replied.

"What?" She then gets dragged out. "Hey!"

"S'up Aiden?" Yang approaches him with Ruby in her arm.

Aiden looks at them, "Oh hey! I was just talking with my friend here about a book series we both enjoy…" He said, gesturing to the black haired girl, whom raised a brow at the people whom approached, "You two fairing well?" Aiden asks, returning his attention to Ruby and Yang.

Yang confidently replies. "Oh yeah we are."

Ruby then notice Blake looking at her. "Oh hey! It's you again!"

"You're that girl from earlier..."

"I'm Ruby! You can call me crater… Gi… Just Ruby."

After some awkward silence..."Okay."

Aiden just raises a brow at Ruby, and looks at both Ruby and the black haired girl as if asking if he should do something, before Yang whispered to Ruby, asking her what she's doing

"Idon'tknowhelpme!" She whispered.

Yang then changes the subject. "So! What's your name?"

Blake merely sighs. "Blake." Putting her attention to a book she was reading.

"Well Blake, I'm Yang!" She introduces herself. "Ruby's older sister!"

"Right..."

"I like your bow! It looks good with your... Pajamas!"

"... Thanks..."

Ruby was nervous at this exchange. Yang keeps going. "Nice night, don't you think?"

"Yes. It's lovely. Almost as lovely as this book." Blake said nonchalantly.

Awkward silence. "That I will continue to read." More silence. "As soon as you leave."

Yang turns to Ruby. "Yeah, this girl is a lost cause."

Ruby then asks what the book is about, as Aiden watches the situation unfold.

Blake would be caught off guard, but explains. "Well… I-It's about a man with two souls. Each fighting for control for its body."

Yang tries to look interested. "Oh yeah. That's… Real lovely."

Ruby steps forward in interest. "I love books. Yang used to read to me before bed. Stories of heroes and monsters. They're the reason I want to be a Huntress."

"Why is that?" Blake asks. "Hoping you'd live happily ever after?"

"I'm hoping we all will." Ruby continues. "As a girl, I wanted to be those heroes on the books. To do what's right, and fight for those who can't defend themselves!"

Blake was not expecting to meet someone like her. "That's... Awfully ambitious for a small girl. Unfortunately real life isn't like a fairy tale."

Ruby still keeps her positive outlook. "Well... That's why we're here."

"Suppose I can sorta side with that… We can only do so much though…" Aiden stated "I am at least happy you still have that spark though when we first met, Ruby." Aiden said with a smirk "Perhaps with that, maybe your vision could come true… Who knows?"

Ruby smiled with hope in her eyes. Yang would be overly excited again. "Oh, I'm so proud of you!"

"Hey! Knock it off!"

The sisters would begin wrestling with each other. This gets Weiss's attention as she complains over the noise they are making.

Aiden gives Weiss a harsh glare, "You again…" Aiden seethes.

"You?" She felt intimidated, so she focuses on Ruby again. Which Blake just watches these silly girls she met. Wondered if she will see more of them anytime soon.

Ruby, in their squabble, states that Weiss is right, that people really are trying to sleep, Weiss retorting with "Now you are on my side?!", Ruby saying she was always on her side, with Yang asking Weiss what her issue is with Ruby, as she's just trying to be nice, with Weiss replying that she's a hazard to her health, making Aiden grumble, before Blake took her candle and blew it out.
