After ensuring my magic was going to hold, I glanced around looking for Layla. She had zipped off to instruct the wizards what to do, and I knew in my heart she'd be struggling considering what happened to Nabu. Seeing she wasn't around, I once again shut my eyes and expanded my senses. I had created an intricate speaker system around the different shorelines of the kingdom along with placing them underwater. I had lost count of how many I made, but was proud that my Winx had held up. I couldn't have done this first year, so I was proud of how far I had come.
I muttered a spell under my breath to solidify the speakers and give them their own internal magic circuit so I wasn't needed to maintain them. It was hard, and I felt my power decreasing like the ebbing of a concert. Lucky for me, I managed to maintain the flow and keep the circuit going, and once I pulled my magic away from them, I felt them all still bobbing in the sea or in the air.
I grinned, satisfied and took a moment to look around. Layla had split up the groups into species with one head of the species in charge of their quadrant. The Wizards were led by Taboc he Wise, the Mer were headed by Tressa, and An Alfea Graduate named Cordelia led the Fairies and the Humans. Layla fluttered between them, and I noticed she had flown underwater now leaving barely a splash. The heads of each unit were linked to my system and I had spelled it so only the people needing to hear it could, they just had to say their names at the start of their sentence.
I glanced up to the palace and saw the King and Queen. They were talking to other realms for aid, and leaving the organising to Layla as a sort of test I think. Teredor caught my eyes and looked at me curiously, somehow still looking regal. I nodded to him to tell him I was coming up, and beat my wings and shot into the sky. They stepped back from the edge of the balcony to give me space to land and I touched down easily.
"I have finished setting up the system, and they'll stay there till I disperse them," I said, smiling.
Niobi gave me a gracious smile, and stepped forward, placing a delicate hand on my arm. "You have improved so much since you were here in your third year, Musa. You should be proud of yourself."
My heart slammed against my ribcage at her words and I managed to mutter out a thank you without burning up in embarrassment. I had never learned to accept compliments as effortlessly as Stella, Layla and Flora, and it was showing now. Niobi smiled knowingly before gesturing inside the building. I followed after her, my wings fluttering and creating a faint melody as I walked. Teredor followed, and soon I found myself back in the little corner I was in last night. They gestured for me to sit, and I manoeuvred myself as gracefully as I could with huge wings. Sometimes I missed my first fairy form; the wings were so much easier back then.
"What is it you wish to tell us, Musa," Niobi said, looking at me keenly.
I sighed, knowing I had no choice if I wanted them to cover for me. "As you know, as Sirenix Fairies we are all eligible for a single wish. Flora used hers to help the people on earth, Bloom broke the curse, Stella used it to help her parents, Layla used it to help Nereus and Tecna used hers to connect her realm more to the magical dimension. I haven't used mine yet." I said, twiddling my thumbs.
The monarchs looked at each other and back to me. "Musa, if you are offering to help with the clean up by using your wish, you don't need to do that. We have it under control all together," Niobi said, and I shook my head.
"No, that's not what I'm thinking." I took a deep breath before looking at them both in the eye. "About a year and a half ago, we were on Earth fighting the Wizards of the Black Circle. I'm sure you all know what happened there and the consequences," I said, and they both nodded solemnly, with Teredor holding his wife's hand.
"I won't make you relive it, but I think I can help. Nabu isn't dead, he was able to put himself into a magical coma before the force killed him. Now, not even Bloom's power will be able to bring him out of it as it's permanent as is as good as death but…but I can."
I shut my eyes and summoned my wishing box, holding it up for the Monarchs to see. "I'm not entirely sure if it will work, so I don't want to tell Lay, but I have a good feeling my wish can awaken him."
Niobe gasped and her hand went to her mouth. Teredor cleared his throat and I noticed the glassiness in his eyes. "Are you sure you would like to use your wish? I know that you are close to her but—"
"Teredor, Layla is like a sister to me, and I know how it feels to lose someone you desperately love and if I can take the pain away from her and give a friend his life back? That is priceless to me and worth using my wish on."
"Musa I…thank you, thank you for trying to give my baby girl her happiness back. She hasn't been the same since that day," Niobi said, reaching out to clasp my hands.
I offered her a half smile and squeezed her hands. "You both welcomed me into your family last night, and what is family for if not to support and help each other?"
The woman broke down, and I felt my own eyes water as I saw her fall apart. Teredor pulled her to him and kissed her forehead, his arms protectively wrapped around her as if he could put her together.
He looked me in the eye and said, "what do you need from us?"
I blinked and suddenly found myself with numerous eyes on me. I looked around once the teleportation light had faded and found myself in the Terrestrial Fairies throne room. It was beautifully decorated, with gorgeous pink flowers wrapping around the interior. Flora would love it. On top of a dais sat Queen Morgana wearing a light green formal dress, with Roxy sitting on a smaller throne next to her and Nebula and the other Major Fairies standing in front of them.
"Musa! Hey girl, great to see you!" Roxy cheered, her pink hair up in a high ponytail and a small silver crown nestled in her hair.
"Hey Rox, how's Avalon College?" I asked, knowing that instead of attending Alfea she went to the newly built college on the island.
"It's great! I've made some great friends here, not to mention have improved my powers." She grinned.
"That's great, Rox. The girls and I need to visit sometime but right now I'm here on official business." I paused, observing the situation. "I'm guessing Morgana has taken her throne back?"
Queen Morgana smiled and nodded regally. "Yes Musa, I have. Nebula has taken over as Headmistress of Avalon College. Now, what can I help you with?"
I sat up straighter and looked her in the eye. "I think I have a way to bring Nabu back."
The group gasped and muttered amongst themselves, until Morgana gestured for silence.
"Musa, How can that be? Even the Dragon Flame couldn't awaken him." Morgana rightly pointed out.
I recounted everything, even summoning my Sirenix box to further my point. By the end of my explanation the Major Fairies and Morgana were smiling at me, while Roxy looked on in awe. Sibylla stepped forward, her golden wings fluttering behind her.
"Musa, this is very admirable, but why do you desire to potentially waste your wish when this is not your fight?"
I clenched my hands and fought the urge to glare at her. "If wanting to help bring my friend back to the world of the living isn't enough, if wanting to bring my best friend her happiness back and my boyfriend his best friend back isn't enough, then maybe the justice of it will be. How is it justice that a man who risked his life to save you all, myself included, is in a magical coma when he should be living? I'll tell you, it's not. If the human aspect isn't enough of a reason, then maybe the fact that it's justice to bring him back will be enough to sway you." I said, my tone was a little harsher than I wanted it to be.
Sibylla shut her eyes and smiled before opening them again. "I had to ensure that it was truly you Musa, and her answer and passion confirmed it. Please, bring the young man back to life, it is as you said, only just."
Nebula stepped forward, her outfit replaced with a long violet off the shoulder dress with a burgundy belt. "The Major Fairies and Queen Morgana will take you to him now."
Roxy stood up, her usual outfit replaced with an asymmetrical ruffled light yellow wrap dress. "Why can't I go? I know Nabu too."
Her mother looked at her sternly. "Roxanna, you have to get to class."
Roxy groaned and crossed her arms, a stubborn look on her face. "I think this is more important."
Deciding to intervene, I cleared my throat. Roxy looked at me hopefully before she huffed at my apologetic expression. "Roxy, considering the Winx, especially Layla, and the guys aren't here, I think it's best I go alone."
She stamped her foot and glared angrily at me, an aquamarine glow encasing her fists. I raised an eyebrow at her, and she quickly backed down. "Fine. But you better fill me in if it works or not. Oh and come visit me." she demanded.
I rolled my eyes affectionately. "Yes, I promise. Now get to class," I teased, and she rolled her eyes.
She shut her eyes and in a burst of aquamarine light, transformed. She looked really pretty, with her hair in a high ponytail with the two bangs either side of her face. She wore a cropped lime green tank top with thick straps and a pair of matching shorts and heeled ankle boots. Her wings were butterfly shaped with scalloped edges and coloured lavender with green trims. She looked at me and grinned.
"My Believix was unnatural and causing me pain, so I lost it and gained this."
"It suits you," I said, grinning.
I was curious as to how Earth Magic worked as there were different groups of fairies, but decided that was an issue for another day. Roxy fluttered her wings and left, calling goodbye to everyone as she disappeared out the window.
Morgana shook her head fondly and stood from her throne. She had such an energy about her that was almost oppressive. She wore a long light green gown that was a v neck and had long translucent glittery sleeved. She had a belt around her waist with a long light yellow sash around her waist that ended in a v at the bottom. Her normal wings were sprouted from her back and it once again made me curious. She caught my gaze and smiled, as she practically glided down the stairs.
"Earth Fairy magic is taught differently. All Fairies have the capacity to summon their wings at will, but only Earth Fairies teach it as a class. It's why the different groups all look the same." she explained and it all at once made sense.
Queen Morgana took the lead, and the other Fairies flanked her. I took the end, creating a diamond shape. I was no stranger to palaces at this point, and the idea that I was actually supposed to be the next Queen of Melody never failed to amuse me. I stayed silent as they lead me up flights of stairs, till we reached the highest point of the castle. The room was modest, with a vaulted ceiling. In the centre was a golden cushioned slab that shimmered in the light streaming from the domed windows. Nabu rested, surrounded in a magical haze, with his golden sceptre on his chest. My throat closed shut when I saw him, my mind conjuring memories of my mother like this which I quickly banished.
I didn't have a lot of time, so I walked to him and gently touched his hand. "Lets wake you up, okay bud?" I said, stepping back.
"I am the Major Fairy of the Mind, so I will be able to transfer your memories of the past year and a half into his mind before you wake him up," Queen Morgana offered gently.
My mind conjured some of the things Riven and I had done in private over that time and a faint flush coated my cheeks. Whatever, if it helped him I had to do it. I nodded and stepped back for the elder Fairy to work her magic.
My eyes fluttered shut as she placed her hands on my temples. Her magic surrounded me, and I felt my own reaction, pushing against hers, in a bid to protect me. I hummed under my breath, expelling some power, and envisioned a gate opening to let her in. The tugging sensation stopped and I relaxed as warmth took over me. I relaxed, trusting her to take what she needed. Eventually the pulling stopped and I felt her exit my mind, everything perfectly intact.
My eyes fluttered open and she stared at me with a flicker of judgement before she smoothed it over. I knew she'd seen my escapades with my boyfriend, but she had no room to judge.
"I've seen all I need to, now I'll thread the copied memories to Nabu."
I nodded and watched as she walked over and placed her hands on his temple. His magic didn't resist, and after a few minutes she stepped back and nodded to me.
I let out a shaky breath. For all my bravado, I was so anxious. What if it failed? What if Layla was mad at me for doing this without her? The options were endless.
It was too late to back out. I summoned my box and my magenta guardian appeared.
"Musa, you have please destiny and as such are owed one wish. Have you thought about what you'd like?"
I nodded and squeezed the box harder. "Yes. I wish for Nabu to be forever woken from his magical coma," I asked, putting all my emotion into my voice.
She looked at me curiously before a small smile crossed her face.
"Your wish is my command...and Musa?"
"Yes?"
"Your mother is proud of you," she said, winking at me before disappearing into sparks.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I whispered a sincere thank you. The sparks covered Nabu, forming a brilliant light that radiated out and blinded me. When the light faded, Nabu had sunk back onto the slab, the glow gone. I whispered a prayer to the Muses right as he groaned and gently pushed himself up. His eyes met mine, and he had the time to mutter a small "Thank you, Musa," before he fell back into unconsciousness.
I'm expecting about another three chapters, maybe four depending how it goes. I hope you liked the chapter and the small references I made to Musa's and Riven's ahem, personal life. I always found the Earth Fairies interesting, so I added a little lore. I prefer Morgana as queen so she is and Roxy studies at Avalon, a school on Tir Na Nog where she is the crown princess. I don't love the idea of her as a winx member especially since she is so much younger than them so she is doing her own thing now. Next chapter will be Nabu waking up and the grand reunion!
